View Full Version : World Championships 2006 Day 1 (18/09)
badMania 09-16-2006, 10:30 PM The schedule for the first day are out, with 65 matches being played tomorrow. Here's the pick of the first day of competition.
MS ROUND OF 64 (14 MATCHES)
Kendrick Lee Yen Hui vs Bjoern Joppien (MATCH OF THE DAY)-- a tough first match for Kendrick and I hope he progresses.
Joachim Persson vs Shon Seung Mo
Klaus Raffeiner vs Nguyen Tien Minh -- Minh has been showing progress this year and he should win tomorrow.
Sony Dwi Kuncoro vs Raul Must -- an easy workout for Sony.
Kuan Beng Hong vs Stuart Gomez -- ditto for Kuan...if he loses in the first round again, there's nothing I can't say!
Lee Hyun Il vs Chetan Anand -- tricky first tie, but the Korean should progress.
Eric Pang vs Chan Yan Kit
MD ROUND OF 64 (9 MATCHES)
Shuichi Sakamoto/Shintaro Ikeda vs Mike Beres/William Milroy
Michael Logosz/Robert Mateusiak vs Ian Palethorpe/Kristian Roebouck
WS ROUND OF 64 (14 matches)
Kaori Mori vs Anu Nieminen
Jeanine Cicognini vs Fransisca Ratnasari -- Nana's debut at the WC and she should win!
Wong Mew Choo vs Chien Yu-Chin (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- a tough one for both players...I think the Malaysian player can win.
Rachel Hindley vs Xing Aiying -- the young Singaporean player has been wobbling lately. She should win though.
Jiang Yanjiao vs Saina Nehwal -- again, the Indian is unlucky to draw the Chinese player in the first round. Jiang to progress!
WD ROUND OF 64 (18 MATCHES)
Jo Novita/Gresya Polii vs Rachel Van Cutsen/Paulien Van Dooremalen -- the Indonesian no 1 pair has the honour of playing in the first match of the WC this year. They should pass their first test!
Johanna Persson/Elin Berglom vs Diana Dimova/Petya Nedeltcheva -- the Bulgarian pair has a good run at the Hong Kong Open and should beat the Swedish pair.
Duang-Anong Arunkesorn/Kunchala Vorawichitchaikul vs Lim Pek Siah/Chor Hoi Yee -- the more experienced Malaysian pair could win.
Miyuki Maeda/Satoko Suetsuna vs Nina Vislova/Valeri Sorokina
Birgit Oversier/Carina Mette vs Wei Yili/Zhang Jiewen -- a breeze for the Chinese pair.
Jiang Yanmei/Li Yujia vs Emelie Lennartsson/Sophia Hansson -- the Singaporean pair shouldn't have a problem.
Ha Jung Eun/Hwang Yu Mi vs Lena Frier-Kristensen/Kamilla Rytter-Juhl -- I am picking the Danish pair to win because of their experience.
XD ROUND OF 64 (10 MATCHES)
Natalie Munt/Robert Blair vs Keita Masuda/Tomomi Matsuda -- a tricky tie for the England pair, but, they should manage.
Songol Anukritayawan/Kunchala Vorawichitchaikul vs Koo Kien Keat/Wong Pei Tty (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- the Malaysian pair won win, perhaps in 3 sets.
Lars Paaske/Helle Nielsen vs Zhang Wei/Yu Yang -- tough to pick out a winner...probably the Danes?
Jonas Rasmussen/Britta Andersen vs Kristian Roebuck/Jenny Wallwork -- the Danes have shown improvements as a pair this year. They should win.
Shintaro Ikeda/Satoko Suetsuna vs Robert Mateusiak/Nadiezda Kostiuczyk -- the Polish pair to win!
pauline 09-16-2006, 11:57 PM Kuan Beng Hong vs Stuart Gomez -- ditto for Kuan...if he loses in the first round again, there's nothing I can't say!

Err... Broadcasting Kuan Beng Hong first round match ? No, I really don't think so.:D
Cheung 09-17-2006, 03:40 AM Roslin's match was broadcast in WC01 when he was no.1 seed. Then he lost!!
Jessica 09-17-2006, 04:08 AM Oh...Then better don't broadcast...I don't wish he lost...
twdc08 09-17-2006, 04:44 AM G@mbateh Mew choo and others Malaysian players...
hcyong 09-17-2006, 07:20 AM Eric Pang vs Chan Yan Kit
Ha Jung Eun/Hwang Yu Mi vs Lena Frier-Kristensen/Kamilla Rytter-Juhl -- I am picking the Danish pair to win because of their experience.
Lars Paaske/Helle Nielsen vs Zhang Wei/Yu Yang -- tough to pick out a winner...probably the Danes?
Agree with your predictions except the ones above, although they would be close.
hara^kazuko 09-17-2006, 07:33 AM Ohww, please broadcast mixed double pair kien keat and pei tty, pretty please....
I think he MUST go through the first round no matter what...I hope he can do well in the first match...So,any broadcasting tomorrow???
Astro Channel 83 will start broadcast around 5pm and Beng Hong play at around 9pm so I think there's a chace we may see him in action, just not sure is he in camera court?
2cents 09-17-2006, 10:21 AM Why so many people worry about Taufik and Beng Hong's 1st round?
The difficulty of the match will grow exponentially round after round. The 1st round opponents' strength is the top 64, (supposed all the best go to WC, actually the strength is top 212 from reality check). Then the 2nd round opponents' strength is top 32, then top 16, ...
If someone choke at the first round, let it be. He's either not good enough, or runs out of luck already.
Cheung 09-17-2006, 11:02 AM First matches are always tricky. Need to get used to conditions. Those higher seeds might have byes but it means their opponents already have had a match to get used to conditions. Add to that the pressure of expectation in playing the WC means there are real chances of top seeds facing difficult matches early on.
I think he should be able to advance to 2nd round.
juniorjunior 09-17-2006, 07:50 PM Birgit Oversier/Carina Mette vs Wei Yili/Zhang Jiewen -- a breeze for the Chinese pair.
When did Wei Yili switch partner?:D
anfan2000 09-17-2006, 08:08 PM Klaus Raffeiner vs Nguyen Tien Minh macth
the munber one Vietnamese player,he should win in 3 sets.
please KuanBeng Hong, don't lose in the 1st round again...please...
jia you!
hehe...I'm being patriotic and going for the opposite, long shot...Go Stuart!
hcyong 09-17-2006, 09:14 PM Astro Channel 83 will start broadcast around 5pm and Beng Hong play at around 9pm so I think there's a chace we may see him in action, just not sure is he in camera court?
*#%@!! How come Singapore only showing the two final days??? Regret subscribing to SCV. World Cup also must pay extra ...
hcyong 09-17-2006, 09:15 PM Klaus Raffeiner vs Nguyen Tien Minh macth
the munber one Vietnamese player,he should win in 3 sets.
No, he should win in straight games.
pjswift 09-17-2006, 09:28 PM *#%@!! How come Singapore only showing the two final days??? Regret subscribing to SCV. World Cup also must pay extra ...
As a SCV subscriber, if you want more Badminton telecast, you have to call or email them, otherwise they think there's no demand. If you can email them 2007 IBF lineup, then they can budget time and money for it in advance.FYI, SCV will telecast from Friday, QF onwards. It sounds great until one realises that Astro's showing the whole tourny 'live' and HKG gets it from Thursday on.So all of you from Singapore who subscribes to SCv, pls take the trouble to register your displeasure, otherwise you're going to get more UK or US sports diet.Email SCV.
hcyong 09-17-2006, 09:50 PM Preview: Day 1 for Malaysians
MS
Kuan Beng Hong v Stuart Gomez (Aus)
Kuan's form is shitty, but not shitty enough to lose to Gomez, no disrespect meant to the Aussie.
WS
Wong Mew Choo v Chien Yu-Chin (Tpe)
The redraw was tough on Wong. I still expect her to win but it will a struggle all the way until she meets Zhang Ning in R16 (if she can get that far).
WD
Ooi Sock Ai/Mooi Hing Yau v Bankier/Mason (Sco)
Both pairs are unknown to me, but given their rankings, the Malaysians have no excuse for losing this.
Fong Chew Yen/See Phui Leng v Kurdelska/Matusewicz (Pol)
It's not the top Polish pair, so the Malaysians should have no excuse also.
Lim Pek Siah/Chor Hooi Yee v Duang-Anong/Kunchala (Tha)
Both pairs are reasonably good, and my feeling is that they are evenly matched. I will still go for the Malaysians due to their experience and probably the absence of expectations (they are not affiliated with BAM, so no pressure from there).
XD
Koo Kien Keat/Wong Pei Tty v Songpol/Kunchala (Tha)
A tough first round match for Koo/Wong. To be brutally frank, neither pair can make it far anyway. I feel it may be better for every single player in this match to concentrate on their respective MD or WD events. BAM does not seem to put much import in the Koo/Wong partnership recently also. So perhaps a loss here will be a blessing in disguise. BTW, the Thais are seeded, but I expect this match to be close.
badMania 09-17-2006, 10:26 PM Birgit Oversier/Carina Mette vs Wei Yili/Zhang Jiewen -- a breeze for the Chinese pair.
When did Wei Yili switch partner?:D
Errr....since either end of last year or this year onwards. Zhang Dan is now paired with Zhao Tingting, while Wei Yili is partnering Zhang Yawen.
indra 09-17-2006, 10:54 PM Errr....since either end of last year or this year onwards. Zhang Dan is now paired with Zhao Tingting, while Wei Yili is partnering Zhang Yawen.

CLELY 09-18-2006, 12:54 AM 1st round match's schedule for INA squad :

Correction. Pls let your friend know it's ch 21 , not 22.
badMania 09-18-2006, 02:23 AM Kendrick Lee lost the first set to Bjorn Joppien 17-21.
Meanwhile, It's level at 1-1 between Jo Novita/Gresya Polii and Rachel Van Cutsen/Paulien Van Dooremalen  The Indonesian pair took the first set easily 21-10, but the Netherland pair levelled it by taking the second set 21-19. Jo/Gresya better don't screw it up in the decider!
Correction. Pls let your friend know it's ch 21 , not 22.
I think you're right. That was what I saw from the papers before he emailed us today. :)
badMania 09-18-2006, 02:30 AM Kendrick currently leads 11-9 at the interval of the second set. I hope he takes the second set!
Meanwhile, Jo/Gresya are cruising 17-8.

domejkt 09-18-2006, 02:37 AM Jo Novita / greysia Polii def Van Cutsen / Van Dooremalen 21-10 19-21 21-9
badMania 09-18-2006, 02:37 AM Jo Novita/Gresya Polii are through to the next after winning in 3 sets: 21-10, 19-21, 21-9.
Kendrick Lee fights back to take the second set 21-18. Can he win the decider?
kobe77sg 09-18-2006, 02:38 AM kendrick took the 2nd set 21-18 rubber game now for kendrick vs b. joppien
kobe77sg 09-18-2006, 02:50 AM NANA going to play now
GO NANA GO NANA
badMania 09-18-2006, 02:51 AM Hmm...Kendrick is struggling against Bjorn Joppien in the deciding rubber. He trails 13-15 in yet another tight game.
Kendrik trailing 18-15... he might be the casualty here.
kobe77sg 09-18-2006, 02:54 AM yup now kendrik trails 15-18
Kendrik is out. Lost 22-20 in the 3rd set.
kobe77sg 09-18-2006, 02:59 AM Joachim persson beat shoon song mo 1st 22-20 another tight match
maa2003 09-18-2006, 03:00 AM Kendrik is out. Lost 22-20 in the 3rd set.
too bad ........ Kendrick is out 17-21 / 21-18 / 20-22
It seems that the court are having draft problems on the court again.
badMania 09-18-2006, 03:01 AM It was deuce between Kendrick Lee and Bjorn Joppien at 20-20. Exciting stuff...Kendrick managed to level the score when Joppien was at match point.
Ultimately, Kendrick lost 20-22 in the exciting rubber game. Bjorn Joppien will now meet Lee Chong Wei in the next round.
Joachim Persson also took the first set 22-20 in his match against the Olympic silver-medallist Shon Sheung Mo.
In the WS match, Fransisca Ratnasari currently leads 11-7 at the interval.
Kendrik is out. Lost 22-20 in the 3rd set.
Oh, how unlucky!
Hope that Ronald will have more luck.
kobe77sg 09-18-2006, 03:07 AM easy game for h wijaya/liu f 21-8
kobe77sg 09-18-2006, 03:09 AM nana win 1st set 21-18
nelsonkong 09-18-2006, 03:11 AM ahhh...all the best for kuan beng hong....march on.
pramilainc 09-18-2006, 03:15 AM Persson (DEN) bt Shon (KOR) : 22-20 , 21-13
The dane springs another surprise (read: after TC).. LCW better watch out...
hcyong 09-18-2006, 03:17 AM Joachim Persson bt Shon. Even though Persson is the seeded player, it is still a minor upset in my books because Shon had shown good results recently. Joppien beating Kendrick is also a minor upset in my books.
twdc08 09-18-2006, 03:17 AM why astro channel 83 didnt show the matches now????always replay the timetable...haiz.....
badMania 09-18-2006, 03:31 AM It was an unconvincing victory from Fransisca Ratnasari as she only managed to beat her relatively unknown opponent 21-18, 21-17. She needs to play better if she is to have any chance of beating either Wong Mew Choo or Chien Yu-Chin in the next round.
badMania 09-18-2006, 03:49 AM It's close as expected between Songpol Anukritayawan/Kunchala Vorawichitchaikul and Koo Kien Keat/Wong Pei Tty. The first set just ended with the Thai no 2 pair taking it at 23-21.
tsang1 09-18-2006, 03:56 AM can anyone tell me where i can find the results for the day so far? www.tournamentsoftware.com (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com) has good live score engine but they dont register the matches already completed. can anyone help?
Jessica 09-18-2006, 04:45 AM How about Kuan Beng Hong???Has he on action already???Really hope he can win...Please update the results...
daretolive 09-18-2006, 04:54 AM KBH hasnt started playing yet. KBH match will be at 4:40pm according to schedule. Currently they are playing 1pm matches.
KBH should not have problem winning because I have seen his opponent play in the recently concluded Aussie Open. Stuart lost to an unknown Indo club player. Unless KBH plays below expectation, i do not see him losing this match. Well, KBH did complain about not getting used to his new coach's training and playing style tho. Hopefully, he is able to play true to his ability.
twdc08 09-18-2006, 04:56 AM how about Mew Choo???when is her match???
Jessica 09-18-2006, 04:57 AM Ya...we must add 6 hours to Mas time..Thanks a lot deretolive...Lets hope him can really win..How about the XD...KKK and his partner???
jaclyn 09-18-2006, 05:00 AM Ya...we must add 6 hours to Mas time..Thanks a lot deretolive...Lets hope him can really win..How about the XD...KKK and his partner???
they go won in 3 set!
but i forget the score the 1st set's score is 23-21(thai pair won)
Jessica 09-18-2006, 05:01 AM Wow...that great...This is a good beginning...I am so happy although this is only the first round..BTW,where you all get the results..Is there any live scoring online...???
Tjun Tjun 09-18-2006, 05:02 AM According to the papers, Mew Choo's match was supposed to start at 6.40pm (Malaysian time). Astro is now showing MS between Andrew Smith and an unknown player from Spain.
Jessica 09-18-2006, 05:05 AM Are you going to watch KBH match...It is very late...1 pm of Mas time...Sigh..tomorrow got to go to school...
Tjun Tjun 09-18-2006, 05:09 AM Are you going to watch KBH match...It is very late...1 pm of Mas time...Sigh..tomorrow got to go to school...
According to the papers, the match is at 10.40pm (Malaysian time). However, it may not be shown live if the match is not played on "TV court".
pjswift 09-18-2006, 05:12 AM Joachim Persson bt Shon. Even though Persson is the seeded player, it is still a minor upset in my books because Shon had shown good results recently. Joppien beating Kendrick is also a minor upset in my books.
Agree. Sounds dangerous for LCW, these two being in his path. LCW better be reminded that in the NSS, it's not necessarily the more skillful player who wins, but the one who makes fewer errors. And beware the draft, precision playing LCW!
xymaerts 09-18-2006, 05:25 AM Astro is very very rich i believe. It is because it starts to broadcast LIVE from round 64 until the final day... The tourament is from Span... This is really the first time ever in badminton history!

hope she can win 3rd set easily...
hcyong 09-18-2006, 06:05 AM Wong MC incredible. Last time I checked, she is a set down and 20-16 down. Now that I just checked, she won the second set 22-20 and leading 4-1 in the third. What fighting spirit!

arice_MAS 09-18-2006, 06:11 AM wow wmc is so amazing
twdc08 09-18-2006, 06:13 AM wow...mew choo won 18-21/22-20/21-10....fantastic!
hcyong 09-18-2006, 06:17 AM I had a huge feeling she would win after that second set. Her excellent stamina usually sees her through tough, long-drawn matches. But the second set comeback was incredible. Down four match points and she won six points in a row to take the game.
**KZ** 09-18-2006, 06:18 AM she wasn't used to the stadium earlier maybe.....there was obviously alot of draft in the stadium....i thought she would lose and get a hell of a scolding from li mao....thankfully she won...
Jessica 09-18-2006, 06:18 AM Wow..yes...she is simply terrific...Now i feel more relax...See..she can do it...
mirrura 09-18-2006, 06:18 AM i thought all the while she has been a fighter with the never-give-up attitude, it's just that she lacks of some kinda "skills" to become top players like Mia, Camilla Martin and the chinese players. The match was crazy. I thought she was going to lose when chien was at her match point.
taufik-ist 09-18-2006, 06:19 AM wow...mew choo won 18-21/22-20/21-10....fantastic!
i'm glad there's no heart-attack victim being reported :D
arice_MAS 09-18-2006, 06:22 AM wow...wow and wow.i think it everyone will suprised if this is in final but unluckly it is in 1 round.
badMania 09-18-2006, 06:22 AM So, its Wong Mew Choo vs Fransisca Ratnasari in the next round. A severe test for the Indonesian player. I will be more than happy if she can win.
Jessica 09-18-2006, 06:23 AM Don't worry...This is definitely a very very good beginning...So..now is who turn to play???
Dreamzz 09-18-2006, 06:23 AM good stuff, nice comeback ... i still can't see her getting past ZN though, which is a shame.
Jessica 09-18-2006, 06:25 AM You can't say like this...ZN has a lot of experience...Is not easy to beat her...
taufik-ist 09-18-2006, 06:26 AM So, its Wong Mew Choo vs Fransisca Ratnasari in the next round. A severe test for the Indonesian player. I will be more than happy if she can win.
WMC is like 'lius pongoh' si bola karet  , fransisca must play 'ulet' if she wants to beat WMC, wmc is a tough player
Dreamzz 09-18-2006, 06:29 AM You can't say like this...ZN has a lot of experience...Is not easy to beat her...
yeah, i know, i should try and be more positive.
but nana vs WMC will also be another entertaining game i think ...
twdc08 09-18-2006, 06:31 AM congratulations mew choo....her performance tdy is good...but i think she has to be more aggressive coz tdy she`s too conservative..but anyway...good luck for mew choo
Ethan 09-18-2006, 06:31 AM Thank goodness mew choo won ! It would be unimaginable for her to prepare so long and go home after first round. At least chien still can play doubles :p
twdc08 09-18-2006, 06:36 AM another Malaysian women doubles,lim/chor are playing now....they lose 1st set 17/21...tdy i read newspaper n saw their target is go into quarter final!!!
yeah, i know, i should try and be more positive.
but nana vs WMC will also be another entertaining game i think ...
I ever see MWC play on Sea Games Philipinnes and its no special. she lost to Adriyanti Firdasari( Indonesian ranked-2) in Final. Hopefully Nana can win. its YOUR time Nana. Proove that PBSI (badminton Organization of INA) is not make a mistake delegating you to WC2006. KEEP :mad:SPIRIIIIT!!!!!
**KZ** 09-18-2006, 06:40 AM the WD pair playin now are not official national players....they quit the national team and are now playing for a club
Jessica 09-18-2006, 06:43 AM One player may change from time to time...We can't conclude them just based on one match....We should be more subjective...

badMania 09-18-2006, 07:18 AM Sony is not convincing....he's only leading 14-9 in the first set.
Ethan 09-18-2006, 07:19 AM ya, lim/chor lost, malaysia's first casualty. WMC's win lit up my day, especially the way she came back from nowhere ! She has to reduce her unforced errors by a lot though to have a crack at ZN

Is this the same Zhang Wei that used to play men's doubles with Liu Yong? and who also played with Cai Yun in the Sudirman Cup a few years back?

badMania 09-18-2006, 08:51 AM Xing Aiying in trouble against Rachel Hindley. Lost first game and trailing in the second.
Aiying has not been performing well lately. She lost to Shinta Mulia Sari in the QF of the Cheers-Singapore Satelitte last month
badMania 09-18-2006, 08:55 AM Petra Overzier has taken the first set in her match against Lee Yun Hwa 22-20. The score is level at 7-7 in the second set.
Meanwhile, Xing Aiying manages to turn things around and takes the second set 21-16. It will go to a rubber game!
badMania 09-18-2006, 08:58 AM Perhaps the tightest match so far:
Roman Spitko/Michael Fuchs bt Erwin Kehlhoffner/Thomas Quere 21-16, 19-21, 29-27
Tjun Tjun 09-18-2006, 08:58 AM Keep giving us the updates, thanks guys.
ye333 09-18-2006, 09:01 AM No. They are different. This Zhang Wei is young and that one has already retired for quite some time.
btw, if you know Chinese pinyin, this one is Zhang Wei3 and that one is Zhang Wei4. Different tone.
Noo come on Lars, come on Helle... you can make it!
Is this the same Zhang Wei that used to play men's doubles with Liu Yong? and who also played with Cai Yun in the Sudirman Cup a few years back?
badMania 09-18-2006, 09:04 AM Kuan Beng Hong vs Stuart Gomez is now playing at Court No 2.
Surely, he will not screw up this time  But, he trails 3-5!
The match between Petra Overzier and Lee Yun Hwa is still very very tight at 17-15 for the German girl.
badMania 09-18-2006, 09:05 AM Xing Aiying is now leading 11-6 at the interval.
Kuan has levelled it at 7-7.
The German girl still leads 18-17.
badMania 09-18-2006, 09:08 AM Dramatic...the Korean girl levels the score at 1-1 after she wins the second set 21-19! She was trailing 17-18!
Xing Aiying still leads 16-11...while Kuan starts to pull away, leading 13-9.
hcyong 09-18-2006, 09:09 AM Even the first round (R64) has some very good matches. Lee Yun Hwa and Petra locked in a tight struggle.
Tjun Tjun 09-18-2006, 09:11 AM Is Lee Yun Hwa having the same 1st round match jitters like Wong Mew Choo? I've the feeling that should the Korean win the 2nd set, she'll win the rubber set like WMC.
badMania 09-18-2006, 09:13 AM Xing Aiying has won in 3 sets: 20-22, 21-16, 21-12. She will meet Zhang Ning on Wednesday.
Kuan Beng Hong is also leading 18-14 in the first set.
Petra Overzier must be seething at losing the second set. She has an early 7-1 lead in the rubber game.
Tjun Tjun 09-18-2006, 09:14 AM Come on, KBH ....
Tjun Tjun 09-18-2006, 09:17 AM Good job, badMania!
hcyong 09-18-2006, 09:17 AM It looks over for Lee Yun Hwa now. Probably a spent force.
Sammy 09-18-2006, 09:29 AM why astro channel 83 didnt show the matches now????always replay the timetable...haiz.....
You have to get use to Astro. This is how they work, setup a dedicated channel for the sport but only show live coverage for 2-3 hours.
Tjun Tjun 09-18-2006, 09:29 AM How is KBH doing now?
afham07 09-18-2006, 09:30 AM is KBH playing now?
2cents 09-18-2006, 09:32 AM KBH won already, easily cruised.
2cents 09-18-2006, 09:36 AM Anand is good at smash while Lee HI good at net. Anand had too many unforced errors, 10 now, otherwise, he could win. KBH and his opponent, together had 0 errors.

hcpoirot 09-18-2006, 10:47 AM Ups, forget to add.
Another upset in XD, 9-16 seeded from Thailand lost to Malaysia pair KKK/Wong Pei Ty in 3 set also.
The seeded who walkover are: Jens E/Mette S, Lee Jae Jin/Lee Hyo Jung from XD. Mette S/Britta A and LeeHyo Jung/Lee Kyung Won from WD.
Without the Korean pair in WD, 99% the WD semifinal will be all China pairs.
hcpoirot 09-18-2006, 10:50 AM Denmark seeded XD pair lost to youngster Zhang Wei/Yu Yang from China.
About 6 years ago, China XD only had Liu Yong/Ge Fei with Zhang Jun/Gao Ling. Now they had 4 - 5 top XD pair with 3-4 quite young pairs.
hcpoirot 09-18-2006, 10:51 AM Another top match: Jiang Yian Jiao VS Sainal Nehwal.
In first set Jiang won easily 21-10. But now in second set, Sainal gave Jiang a hard fight. 9-9.
hcpoirot 09-18-2006, 11:01 AM Jiang won in straight set 21-10-21-16
ye333 09-18-2006, 11:09 AM But seems none of these can reach the same level as Liu/Ge and Zhang/Gao (around 00/01, then they went downhill)... Most of them are just young, fast and powerful, and NEW, so they can surprise those "seeded" pairs...

Indeed...it's depressing to see that INA only sends one pair in XD and WD despite having 2-3 pairs already qualified to take part. They just don't wanna waste money

Agree. Zheng/Zhao aren't exactly that young. The only threat will come from Xie Zhongbo/Zhang Yawen.
ye333 09-18-2006, 11:11 AM The scoreboard in tournamentsoftware hasn't been updated for quite a while now...
badMania 09-18-2006, 11:12 AM The scoreboard in tournamentsoftware hasn't been updated for quite a while now...
Yes, he won. I am not sure about the score in the rubber game though.
ye333 09-18-2006, 11:16 AM Right. Zheng Bo is famous for big smashes though, so Zheng/Zhao is quite different from Chen/Zhao, since Chen QQ is a placement player.
btw, I think Xie Zhongbo is not young actually. He is at least 25/26. And he has injuries preventing him from playing his best.
Agree. Zheng/Zhao aren't exactly that young. The only threat will come from Xie Zhongbo/Zhang Yawen.
ye333 09-18-2006, 11:17 AM 3 sets?? Gee. This year the first rounds are pretty tough... It's the drawing or we are having more good players now? Or the 21 pts system?
I still remember last year, people like LHI, Hafiz, LCW, LD just get past 1st round like a breeze. No sweat.
Yes, he won. I am not sure about the score in the rubber game though.
badMania 09-18-2006, 11:49 AM It's only the first day and a few established and seeded players (mostly in doubles) already have to pack up.
These are the list of casualties:
MS
Shon Sheung Mo (unseeded, but, he's expected to progress)
MD
Michael Logosz/Robert Mateusiak (9/16)
XD
Songpol Anukritayawan/Kunchala Vorawichitchaikul (9/16)
Lars Paaske/Helle Nielsen (9/16)
Wong8Egg 09-18-2006, 11:51 AM The seeded who walkover are: Jens E/Mette S, Lee Jae Jin/Lee Hyo Jung from XD. Mette S/Britta A and LeeHyo Jung/Lee Kyung Won from WD.

what happen to them???????
badMania 09-18-2006, 11:53 AM Similarly, the WD match between Ha Jung Eun/Hwang Yu Mi and Lena Frier-Kristensen/Kamilla Rytter-Juhl goes to 3 sets with very tight scores. The Danish pair won the first 22-20, but, the Korean levelled it at 21-18 in the second. The rubber set will be the last set to be played today and the Danes have a 6-1 lead.
In the last MS match for today, Yousuke Nakanishi beat Hsieh Yu-Hsing 21-19, 21-15. His next opponent will be Eric Pang.
ye333 09-18-2006, 11:53 AM LHJ is injured. So she will not play. And thus LJJ and LKW have to stay in Korea too.
what happen to them???????
badMania 09-18-2006, 11:58 AM Another interesting statistics:
20 out of the 62 matches played today ended in rubber-sets, about 1/3
At the moment, 5 of these 20 matches (excluding the 2 WD results which are not yet updated) ended in deuce for the rubber set. So, the excitement level has generally increased?
badMania 09-18-2006, 11:59 AM Back to the last match, Frier-Kristensen/Rytter-Juhl still lead 12-9 in the rubber-set.
badMania 09-18-2006, 12:12 PM The Danish pair, Lena Frier-Kristensen/Kamilla Rytter-Juhl won the match 22-20, 18-21, 21-17.

BTW, if i remember, the duration of time sounds about right, just like in last yr's WC.;)

How many courts did they play on in the Opening rounds of WC last year?
Thinking about it though the scoring system should extend the opening rounds as more rallies have to be played to win matches in WS and WD where many are over quicker in older scoring system. RPS will decrease time taken to complete later rounds, or simply reduce the number of courts used.
Any body know how many courts this year?

hmm, i believe, they used 5 courts in last yr's WC(same like any other tournaments)...and they used them til the R16 or QF round, if i'm not mistaken..
You can check these links for pics of the Opening Rds pics(sigh, can't believe it's been a yr already, seems like yesterday looking back @ those pics:rolleyes: :p ):

Re the longer/extended time for WS and WD, i can understand esp. going from 11 pts to 21 pts. But looking at the overall time, there isn't much difference with last yr's; as i thought IBF's goal in implementing a NSS is to "shortened" the time being played?!?!..;)
