Greetings,

This thread is branched out from our website = http://www.cccbadminton.com/ (http://www.cccbadminton.com/)

========================

Please respond if interested.

CCC Badminton: CCC@MSAC

Venue: Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre, Albert Park, Victoria, Australia

Time: Every Sunday 10:00am-12:00noon

Level: For Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Skills

CCC Badminton Club was formed in the hope that it will help more people to enjoy playing badminton.

CCC Badminton Club has 2 objectives:

1. To help those who are beginners to get to know the game quicker.

2. To provide experienced players with a venue to train.

Our CCC@MSAC = Concentrate on Learning Skills & Perfecting Strokes.

In this session, COACHING AND TRAINING are the main activities involved, with a few PRACTICE GAMES being played at the end of the session.

COACHING is performed by Mr Chris Hoh who has over 20 years of badminton coaching experience, yet is innovative in his coaching techniques. You will receive invaluable information/instruction/demonstration of different SKILLS from him.

Chris' coaching course is a structured program, with 20 chapters involved. And the Chapter of the Week is taught in a strict order of application. The session is conducted in a formal learning environment.

TRAINING is performed by doing DRILLS (repetitious exercises) to perfect your strokes and footwork. You will be doing drills suggested by Chris, the best drills related to the Chapter of the Week.

PLEASE NOTE: Chris does not provide Circuit (Physical) Training.

Chris is only qualified for Badminton Coaching. He believes that for Circuit Training, such as; steps, trunk curls, squat jumps, press-ups, pull-ups, squat thrusts, etc, it is better for you to employ a qualified gym instructor.

SUNDAY CCC Session is conducted as follows:

10:00am to 10:30am Warm-up Drills and Warm-up Footwork (BEXERCISE)

10:30am to 11:00am Learning the Chapter of the Week

11:00am to 11:30am Practising the Chapter of the Week (Doing Drills)

11:30am to 12:00noon Playing Games using the Chapter of the Week

Payment Structure

A different fee structure (different from our Friday Social) will apply. The calculation is based on Chris' professional coaching fees. It is either $15 or $20 for the 2hr session.

For regular trainees, it is $15 per session.

For casual trainees, it is $20 per session(but casual trainees are to ask if there are vacancies available, since we depend on MSAC for more courts available for hire if more trainees are attending).

BTW, Chris' coaching fees for Private Coaching (1-on-1) is set at $30 per hour. This does not include court hire.

Trainees who could get to Waverley

Weekly at Waverley, we have these 2 sessions;

(1) CCC Wednesday CATS

A similar COACHING AND TRAINING activity is involved in this session.

Link is = http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35687 (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35687)

(2) CCC Friday Social

The PLAYING OF GAMES is the only activity involved in this session.

Trainees repeating/revising our Coaching Program

A question was asked by one of our trainees who is repeating/revising the Program of 20 Chapters.

Question: If I am happy with my Overhead Clears (one of the chapters), and if the Chapter of the Week is on the Overhead Clears, can I do something else?

Answer: If you are happy with your skills for the Chapter of the Week, you are welcomed to practise other skills during the session.

You have your court for the full 2 hours and you can choose whatever practice you wish. However, you have to find another trainee who would be willing to be your practice/drill partner.

But I always say “Don't just think of the stroke production in isolation”.

You might be able to do a good Overhead Clear when the shuttle is being hit to where you are standing. But if you cannot do a good Overhead Clear when the shuttle is being hit to position away from you, then you have not mastered the Overhead Clear.

So, what I am saying is “You must think of stroke production together with the necessary footwork involved”.

However, if you can return a good Overhead Clear, whether a shot is hit to you as a Defensive Clear or an Attacking Clear and whether that shot is hit to a position away from you, then I don't see any reason why you have to go through that chapter again. If you have mastered the subject matter of the chapter, you are encouraged to practise your other strokes/skills.

But don't fall into a trap, for example, of practising the Dab when we are doing the Overhead Clear, and then later practising the Overhead Clear when we are doing the Dab.

========================

I have received several emails asking for our Coaching Program.

Here is the Program;

CCC Coaching Program (20 Chapters)

1 Footwork – Backward (with OH Clear)
2 Footwork – Forward (with Bounce)
3 Services – Singles & Doubles (with UA Clear)
4 OH Dropshot – (reply with Bounce)

Hi LilyC,

Malaysia's WONG Mew Choo just escaped Taiwan's Chien Yu Chin in the Women Singles @World Championships, Madrid 2006.

Congratulations to Chien Yu Chin, World Rank#61, for a well played match against Wong Mew Choo, World Rank#18.

Hi LilyC,

But Malaysia's Ooi Sock Ai & Mooi Hing Yau could not escape Taiwan's Chien Yu Chin & Cheng Wen Hsing in the Women Doubles @World Championships, Madrid 2006.

This time Chien Yu Chin won. May be she plays better as a doubles player. With her partner, Cheng Wen Hsing, they are World Rank#6. So they are much stronger than Ooi Sock Ai & Mooi Hing Yau, World Rank#86. They won by 21-15, 23-21.

Cheers... chris@ccc.

Hi Chris@CCC! :)

Oh really??? Thanks for these updates coz I haven't been able to keep up with the latest results. ;)

Chien Yu Chin & Cheng Wen Hsing are the top players in Taiwan, but internationally, they are not the "top top" players... *sob sob*
However, we are still very proud of them though~ JIA YOU!!! :) :)

Congrats to Wong Mew Choo for winning the match against Chien Yu Chin Chien!!! ;) ;)
As with the WD match, although TW won the match, I'd say Malaysia was not bad at all, 21-15, 23-21 --> the 2nd set was very close!!! Maybe in the near future, they will be able to beat TW~!

Anywayz~ badminton viva forever!!! :D

Hi LilyC,

Just received this report from Malaysia...

This time, Malaysia's Wong Pei Tty – Chin Eei Hui will play against your Taiwan's Chien Yu Chin - Cheng Wen Hsing in the Women's Doubles @Asian Games, Doha 2006.

I met Wong Pei Tty and Chin Eei Hui, and their coach Cheah Soon Kit, when they were here for the Commonwealth Games, Melbourne 2006. They are a very strong pair... in fact, they won the Gold Medal in Melbourne.

Your Chien Yu Chin - Cheng Wen Hsing combination is now World Rank#7. Based on that, they are just a little bit stronger than Wong Pei Tty – Chin Eei Hui, now World Rank#9.

So, their match could be go either way @Doha 2006.

====== start report ======

Badminton/Asian Games: Coach: Pei Tty-Eei Hui can deliver medal in Doha

02 Oct 2006
K. M . Boopathy (boopathy@nst.com.my)
New Straits Times
MALAYSIA have not won a medal in the Asian Games women’s doubles event since 1970 and coach Cheah Soon Kit wants his charges Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui to end the drought in Doha.

In fact, Malaysia have only two women’s doubles bronze medals to show from the Asian Games — the first through Tan Gaik Bee-Ng Mei Ling in 1962 and Rosalind Singha Ang-Teow Siew Bee in 1970 — but Soon Kit believes Pei Tty-Eei Hui can achieve a medal finish in Doha.

The reason? Asian Games rules only permit two pairs per country for individual events, thus allowing overwhelming favourites China to win a maximum of two medals.

This leaves two medals to be fought for and Soon Kit wants his players to take the initiative and make up for the World Championships disappointment in Madrid.

Pei Tty-Eei Hui had the opportunity to make the last four in Madrid but lost to China’s No 4 Zhang Yawen-Wei Yili in the quarter-final.

China clinched all four medals in the World Championships with Gao Ling-Huang Sui taking the title.

"They (Pei Tty-Eei Hui) have won the Commonwealth and Sea Games gold and now the target is to win a medal in the Asian Games. They have an outside chance of achieving it," said Soon Kit.

"The fact that there are only two pairs from China will increase our chances of winning a medal. As long as we can avoid the two pairs from China in the quarter-final stage, Pei Tty-Eei Hui can get into the medal round.

"Their focus now is to become tactically wise and have more patience especially when they play an attacking game. This is where they always make mistakes against top pairs as they try too hard to kill off the rallies and are disappointed if they fail to do so."

Among other pairs Pei Tty-Eei Hui will have to contend with are South Korea’s Lee Kyung Won-Lee Hyo Jung, Cheng Wen Hsing-Chien Yu Chin of Taiwan, Saralee Thungthongkam-Satinee Changkrachangwong of Thailand and Indonesia’s Gresya Polii-Jo Novita.

Pei Tty-Eei Hui made their first breakthrough when they won the women’s doubles gold in the 2005 Manila Sea Games and then clinched the Commonwealth Games gold medal in Melbourne in March.

In order to receive a good draw, Pei Tty-Eei Hui must also regain their position in the top eight after they dropped to ninth position last week.

Japan Open 2006: Sony Dwi Kuncoro challenge for Lee Chong Wei

05 Oct 2006
K. M . Boopathy (boopathy@nst.com.my)
New Straits Times

LEE Chong Wei, after his failure in the World Championships, must start his revival the hard way when he was drawn to play Indonesia’s Sony Dwi Kuncoro in the second round of the Japan Open which begins in Tokyo on Wednesday.

Sony challenge for Chong Wei

Chong Wei, the second seed, and two-time Sea Games champion Sony received byes in the first round. Sony has beaten Chong Wei twice but the wins came in the 2000 World Junior Championships and the 2001 Hong Kong Open but the Malaysian has shown rapid progress since then.

Sony himself has been struggling with his form since clinching a bronze in the 2004 Athens Olympics but, strangely, always performs above himself when facing a Malaysian shuttler.

In contrast, Chong Wei is often vulnerable in preliminary rounds and it will be a test of character for the 24-year-old World No 2. Should Chong Wei survive, he should not have problems reaching the last eight where he is expected to meet Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana or Chen Yu of China, who has beaten the Malaysian twice this year.

Assuming Chong Wei progresses, he gets a golden opportunity to settle a score with Bao Chunlai of China who came from behind to beat him in the quarter-finals of the World Championships in Madrid, in the semi-finals.

Hafiz Hashim, much to his bad luck, will have world champion Lin Dan of China awaiting him in the last eight.

Older brother Roslin plays Qiu Yanbo of China in the first round and, if he rolls on, is expected to meet Chen Yu, also from China, in the second. Kuan Beng Hong’s hope of ending his recent run of first-round defeats will be tough as the Malaysian meets Indonesian Simon Santoso in his opening match.

In the men’s doubles, scratch pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, who are being viewed as Malaysia’s pair for the future, have an outside chance of reaching the quarter-finals.

Boon Heong replaces Chan Chong Ming, who is still mourning the death of his father two weeks ago, and the new combination’s first test will be against Zhang Bo-Xie Zhongbo of China in the second round.

In the women’s doubles, Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui are expected to reach the last eight but they must first overcome South Korean scratch pair Lee Kyung Won-Jung Youn Kyung in the second round.

Hi hkhung,

As you know, my main job/objective is to teach players to enjoy the skills in Badminton and to have some physical exercise in the Game of Badminton, not necessarily to play it competitively.

Some players love only the the Social aspects of Badminton, while others are only interested in Competitive Matches.

To some, playing Competition is too stressful.:eek::eek:

However, for you, I will ask players@CCC at all our different venues if they would like to join your team.

Three Coaching Styles:

Command style
In the command style of badminton coaching, the coach makes all the decisions, the role of the players is just to respond to the coach’s commands. The assumption underlying this approach is that the coach has superior knowledge and experience. It is his role to tell the players what to do. The player’s role is to listen, to absorb and to comply, no questions asked.

Submissive Style
Coaches who adopt the submissive style make as little decision as possible. It is like ‘throw out the ball and have a good time approach’. The coach provides little instruction and minimal guidance in organizing activities and resolves discipline problems only when absolutely necessary.

Coaches who adopt this style normally lack the competence to provide instruction and guidance. They are unable to meet the demand of their coaching responsibilities, or are misinformed about what coaching is. The submissive style coaches merely act as babysitters and often a poor one when come into badminton coaching by chance.

Cooperative Style
Coaches who select the cooperative style share decisions making with the players. Although they recognized their responsibility to lead and guide the players towards achieving set objectives, cooperative style coaches also know the importance of getting players involved in making certain collective decisions.

Coaching Style Evaluated

Which style best describe you, command, submissive, or cooperative? We consider the submissive style to no ‘style’ at all and urge you not to adopt it. The command style has been prevalent in the past and is commonly seen among professional, college and high school coaches. Many novice or inexperience coach adopt the command style because it is the one they have been modeling on their own previous coaches or others.

Some coaches adopt this style because it helps them conceal their own doubts about their capabilities. If the player is not permitted to question them, they can avoid explaining why they coach as they do, then their inadequacies would not be uncovered or so they think!

On the surface the command style appears effective. Good athletics teams need organization. They cannot be run effectively if participants are given too much democracy. The team members just cannot vote on every decision that needs to be made.

Indeed, the command style can be effective if winning is the primary objective of the coach. But this represents one of the major limitations of the command style. Rather than playing because they are intrinsically motivated, athletes may play for the praise of the coach or to avoid his or her wrath.

Coaches who use the command style also prevent athletes from fully enjoying the sport. The sense of accomplishment is felt by the coach but not the athletes.

The command style is increasingly being rejected today by coaches of young and adult athletes alike, for it treats athlete like a robot or slave, not as a thinking human being. The command style is not compatible with the objective of “Athletes first, Winning second”.

If your objective is to help young people grow physically, psychologically, and socially through sport and if your objective is to help young people become independent, then the command style is not for you.

It is obvious by now that we favor the cooperative style of badminton coaching because it shares decision making with the athletes and foster the philosophy of “Athletes first, Winning second” objective. Some people think adopting the cooperative style means you abandon your responsibilities as a coach or that you let the players do anything they want. That’s not the case at all.

Cooperative style coaches provide the structure and rules that allow players to learn to set their own goals and to strive for them. Being a cooperative style coach does not mean you avoid rules and order.

Failing to structure team activities is neglecting major coaching responsibilities. The coach faces the complex task of deciding how the structure should be in order to create the optimum climate for a player’s development.

Imagine handling a wet bar of soap. If you hold it too tightly it squirts out of your hands (command style). It will slip away, if you don’t grasp it firmly enough (the submissive style). Firm but gentle pressure of the cooperative style coaches is needed but they also know when it is useful to let athletes make decisions and assume responsibilities.

We know there is more to being an athlete than just having great skills. The players must also be able to cope with pressure, adapt to changing situations, be discipline and maintain concentration in order to perform well. These ingredients are nurtured routinely by cooperative style coaches, but seldom by command style coaches.

The cooperative approach places more trust on the players. This has a positive effect on self-image. It promotes openness in the social emotional climate and improves both communication and motivation. Athletes are motivated not by fear of the coach, but by a desire for personal satisfaction. Thus the cooperative style is almost always more fun for the players.

There is a price to pay, however in choosing the cooperative style of badminton coaching. This style requires more skills on the part of the coach. It means that coaches must be in control of themselves. It means that choices are seldom absolutely right or wrong. Cooperative style coaches must individualize their badminton coaching much more than command style coaches.

Malaysian badminton team reach semis
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian junior badminton team put up a sizzling performance to beat Japan 3-1 to reach the mixed team semi-finals of the World Junior Championships for the first time at the Incheon Gymnasium in South Korea yesterday.

Their previous best achievement was recorded in Vancouver two years ago when they finished fifth overall.

Yesterday, the Malaysian team clinched victory from the two singles and boy's doubles matches.

Mohd Arif Abdul Latif, the younger brother of national doubles player Mohd Zakry Latif, started the ball rolling when he stunned Asian Juniors champion Kenichi Tago 22-20, 21-18.

Kenichi is the top seed for the boy's singles individual event starting on Monday.

Asian Juniors runner-up Lydia Cheah put Malaysia two up when she edged Megumi Taruno 21-13, 18-21, 21-15.

Lim Khim Wah-Mak Hee Chun earned the winning point for Malaysia when they beat Takuma Ueda-Hiromu Sasaki 21-14, 21-16.

Malaysian manager How Kim Tho said they had been banking on Mohd Arif to pull off an upset.

“Mohd Arif played an outstanding role. If he had lost, the team would have been under huge pressure then,” said Kim Tho in a telephone interview from Incheon yesterday.

Defending champions South Korea now await the Malaysian youngsters in the semi-finals today.

The other semi-final tie will see second seeds China taking on third seeds Indonesia.

MIXED TEAM RESULTS

Our Sunday CCC@MSAC Chapter = Chapter 19 : Singles – (Court Zones & Match Tactics)

None of our 6 trainees who attended, played Singles in their Clubs/Social Groups. But we still went through what goes through a Singles Player's mind and what Tactics are employed when a Singles Match is played.

It is hoped that our trainees can now appreciate better, the Singles Player's Skill/Performance, not necessarily in just his/her strokes and footwork.

So now...... for all activities of CCC, please click on this link= http://www.badmintoncentral.com/foru...play.php?f=192 (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=192)
and you will find unique threads for each of our different issues.

Please note: For members@CCC wanting to start your own General/Open threads, not relating to the activities of CCC, you should have them posted into one of the Main Forums@Badminton Central, and not into our CCC Sub-Forum.

Greetings,

Please be informed.

MSAC has notified CCC of how the Melbourne Grand Prix 2007 will affect our Badminton.

”Hi Chris,

Unfortunately MSAC will close at 8pm on the 12th March and will re-open on the 20th March due to the Grand Prix.

MSAC Program Coordinator.”

This means that our Group Coaching on Sunday 18-Mar-2007 will be cancelled.

And for our 1-on-1 Private Coaching trainees, that whole week will be unavailable.

Even if MSAC were to be available, I won't want to coach anyway... You won't be able to hear me when I speak. :):):)

Hi LilyC,

Hi LilyC,

They are playing each other again, on Friday, 9-Mar-2007, Chien Yu Chin/Cheng Wen Hsing vs Wong Pei Tty/Chin Eei Hui. :):):)

And this time, in the Womens Doubles Quarter Final, @All England Badminton 2007.

Their World Rankings as at 8-Mar-2007, are;
Chien Yu Chin/Cheng Wen Hsing : No.4
Wong Pei Tty/Chin Eei Hui : No.7
Both teams having improved since @Doha 2006.

This time, I will buy you lunch when my Malaysia's Pair beat your Taiwan's Pair. :):):)

Hi LilyC,

Hope that you too, will have a nice long weekend at Bright.

On Sunday 11-March, Kelvin-K joined CCC@MSAC as a regular trainee.

Welcome Kelvin-K !!! :):):)

Over the last weeks, trainees have been instructed the Doubles Strokes Chapters.

And chris@ccc explained/instructed/demonstrated to trainees how our Badminton Doubles matches are evolving to a new way of play, that is with the Dab, Drive and Net-Play.

Yesterday, at the All-England Open 2007, the Malaysian Mens Pair of Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong defeated the World No.1 Pair of Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng of China, 21-15, 21-18 in just 38 minutes.

It's the 'Speed and Net-Plays' beating the 'Power and Smashes' as explained by chris@ccc.

During the Commonwealth Games 2006 @Melbourne, the Malaysian Doubles Coach, Rexy Mainaky, and the Malaysian National Chief Coach, Yap Kim Hock, with chris@ccc discussed quietly how 'Speed and Net-Plays' can beat the 'Power and Smashes' in Doubles.

We now await China to improve on their 'Speed', to match up with the Danish, Indonesian, Korean and Malaysian Doubles. :):):)

This post is made because of 2 reasons;

(1) We wish to have OPEN COMMUNICATIONS within our CCC Badminton Club. We encourage players@ccc to post their communication in our CCC Badminton Forum. (Other members@ccc can chip in to answer queries, a good example was Fuji_ answering gozzer's post)

chris@ccc can get up to 100 emails/Private Messages from Badminton Central in ONE day.

(2) chris@ccc is under great stress... because he is involved with too many Badminton matters at the moment.

So guys, please post in our threads via CCC Badminton Forum instead of emailing or Private Messaging.

Greetings,

Please don't PM me anymore because my PM is full and congested.

Sorry, I just couldn't keep up with the answering of questions PM'ed to me at the moment. :o

A BIG CCC ANNOUNCEMENT was made on Wednesday 2-May-2007

As you know, we have been talking about combining/uniting our CCC/CATS Trainees and our CCC Social Players together. so that we all feel united as one club.

The changes to the club fees and conditions are as follows:

All new fees and conditions will apply from 1-Jun-2007.

These will be applied to all CCC Trainees/Social Players at all our different venues.

CCC Membership Fee:

For our new Membership Fee@CCC: $10 per month, payable per season.

For our Student Concession holders: $5 per month, payable per season.

We will now have a bigger number of players eligible to participate in our Inter-Club Friendly Matches (as the new changes will see an increase in our membership, and only members can represent our club). :):):)

CCC/CATS Trainees:

Trainees will be charged at different rates:

For Members, $15 per session, payable five-weekly.

For Visitors, $20 per session. payable per session.

CCC Social Players:

CCC Badminton will commence a new weekly session, the details and the new thread will be released soon.

From 1-Jun-2007, no visitors* will be accepted for our Social Games on Wednesday and Friday.

However, our Sunday Social Games will be accepting visitors.

We apologise that this decision was made... Our Wednesday & Friday attendances are just becoming TOO BIG.

Because of bigger participation, our Winter (June-August) Social Session Fee will be dropped to $6. :):):)

* However, each member is allowed to bring 2 visitors.

============ start post ============

A question has been asked about our CCC Sunday Night@Waverley.

Is CCC Sunday Night meant to be

for Social Games, or

for League Games, or

for CATS (Coaching And Training Sessions)?

Answer:

CCC Badminton was formed in the hope that it will help more people enjoy playing Badminton.

So, it is not important how we will structure or organise it (at the moment).

Let us all turn up.

Let us just enjoy our Badminton !!! :):):)

On Sunday 20-May-2007, our 'Launching Night', there will be a bit of everything;

* chris@ccc will be answering questions about our CATS (Coaching And Training Sessions)

* DoublesPlease will be answering questions about our CCC League Games

* helmut will be answering questions about our CCC Social Games

And we hope to meet many new players who have never been before to CCC Badminton.

Hi Paula_R,

Thank you for responding.

Hope that your physio gives you Good News. :):):)

However, please do not rush back to train with us if you are not 100%.

Past experience tells us that... When a trainee returns for coaching after an injury but not fully recovered, he/she could sustain another different type of injury.

This is because...... In order to protect/prevent pain in one part of our body, we tend to put stress/strain to another part of our body, therefore causing a different injury. :o:(:crying:

We wish you All the Best...... and we missed you so.

CCC Badminton will always be there when you are willing and able to attend again. :)

Hi Chris

Past experience tells us that... When a trainee returns for coaching after an injury but not fully recovered, he/she could sustain another different type of injury.

This is so true - I did my forearm muscle trying to play through tennis elbow last year! BTW the day I thought I had cramp at training the physio thinks I may have strained my calf and as I didn't give it time to heal before playing again ended up with the tear.

Thanks for the best wishes - I miss you all too. I'll garuntee my replacement Hans-I is not half as amusing/awkward/frustrating as me in the footwork drills!! And if by chance he is - can he stay when I get back so I don't feel like such a dill?! LOL :). Anyway I will be back and I'll learn to look 1/2 way graceful if it kills me (and judging by how I feel some Sunday nights it most probably will).

Thanks again - See you soon

A questions though:

Sunday 10:00am-12:00noon session-Does anyone stay around after for a longer social games? Not too long after as would need to leave after 12:30-1:00pm for another appointment..

.
After our training session(a permanent-fixed event) which is 10:00am-12:00noon, you are free to leave.

Our trainees stay on as long as possible if courts are available for us for Social Games(not a permanent-fixed event).

Sometimes, when there are no courts available we have to leave immediately. :(:(:(
Sometimes, when courts are available we could stay up to 4:00pm playing social games. :D:D:D
Last Sunday we stayed until about 1:30pm. :):):)

Our Sunday CCC@MSAC is organised for Coaching and Training, not for Social Games.

Our Coaching and Training involved;
1. Doing footwork exercises (dancing to music)
2. Doing drills exercises (repetitions until you've mastered footwork and strokes)
3. Learning new strokes (many strokes that you've never known or learned before)
4. Learning how to play Singles and Doubles (examining players' positions, match tactics, etc)
5. Improving 'reaction time' (This we did last Sunday)
etc, etc......

I am in distress... my mother back in Malaysia is terminally ill with luekemia at her death bed.

I could be called back to Malaysia at any time. When I am away in Malaysia, we will need our members to continue organising our CCC Badminton sessions.

Our CCC communication is based here at Badminton Central.

I wish that all you members could continue with our regular sessions and communicate here at Badminton Central.

Also when I am away, we will need someone to pick up Llewellyn for our Friday sessions@Waverley.

And for our Wednesday@MSAC, we will need someone to organise our sessions.

For our Saturday and Sunday training sessions, members can decide to turn it into Social Games sessions or cancel them all together. Please let me know so that I can cancel our permanent bookings@MSAC.

We need to communicate here@Badminton Central ASAP.

Dear members@ccc,

Received this email from MSAC for our players' car parking.

Attention Badminton Players@CCC:

MSAC is making the whole parking process a whole lot easier by removing the need for you to validate your ticket every time you come in to use the centre.

The new parking procedure consists of one ticket only for 2 hours free parking. Should you be here for longer than 2 hours then you will need to pay a flat rate of $2.00 after 5pm week days or a flat rate of $2 on the weekend (again with the first 2 hours free).

The MSAC Club Card is an alternative for you to consider rather than paying the flat rate of $2.00. The Club card will allow you to simply scan as you enter the car park for free parking. The Club card costs $20 per year.

This new procedure will be implemented as of Monday 7-Apr-2008, so please give it some thought as to what you'd like to do.

If you think the Club Card will be good value for you then please pay a visit to the Customer Service desk where they will look after you.

Greetings,

Just received this message:

Sunday 20-Apr-2008: Lakeside Drive and Aughtie Drive will be closed.

Albert Park is hosting the “Festival of Cycling” event on Sunday 20th April 2008. The event will be conducted on the Albert Park roadways. To facilitate maximum safety for all competitors (adults and children) Lakeside Drive and Aughtie Drive will be closed during most of the morning and part of the early afternoon. A traffic management plan is currently being prepared and a schedule will be communicated shortly.

Also please note that due to Friday 25th April being a public holiday, (the Centre will close at 8pm) there won't be any MSAC Social Badminton on this day.

My suggestion to our players is not to enter Augtie Drive, but to enter the next road entry that leads to the multilevel parking building.

Cheers... chris@ccc

Hello everyone,

Please allow me to introduce myself briefly.
My name is Chien-Hui but you can also call me Serena if it's easier. My family (a 16month old baby girl Sophie and my husband Trevor) just moved down to Melbourne from London last Friday. We are really excited about the new life in Melbourne and the great weather already made us forget all the hectic, stressful moving. We look forward to more excitements in our new life here.

With only 3 years of badminton experiences, mainly mixed double, I am not a superb player. But I really love badminton and always enjoy playing it. I look forward to this Wednesday to meet more CCC members.

Thanks to Chris and Tim, I had a great time today at MSAC (this might solve my jet lag problem completely!!) and see you this coming Wednesday!

Serena

Yesterday, Sunday 27-Apr-2008, we went through Chapter 11: Netplay – (Tap/Swipe). Below, are some important notes to remind our trainees...

We need to define "SHOT" and "STROKE".
SHOT = Flight of the shuttle.
STROKE = Swing of the racket/rackethead.
You can block the SHOT, but you cannot block/obstruct the STROKE.

If the shuttle is very close to the net, then there are 2 relevant laws here;
(1) Your opponent must hit the shuttle with the point of impact on his/her side of the court.
(2) Your opponent is allowed to have his/her racket head to follow through over the net into your side of the court.

So, if your racket head is so close to the net that it prevented your opponent from doing the follow-through with his/her racket head over the net into your side of the court, then it is illegal.

Usually the umpire makes the decision by judging whether the rackets will clash or not.

My advice is... still block the shot, but block it further away from the net, so that no clashing of rackets can occur. It is then a LEGAL BLOCK. But it's easier said than done.

BTW, please refer to this thread located at:

Today's the first time we had the netmeeting with my in-laws since we moved to Australia (we finally had internet connection several days ago). They miss their granddaughter so much and this Sunday morning was the only time everyone was available in the family. By the time we finished, it was too late for the training session already. >__<~

Could Chris please help me and Tim next Sunday to catch up quickly or give us some tips when we play on Friday? I would really appreciate that ! Many thanks !

Bless you, Tim! Hope you'll recover completely soon !
