View Full Version : World Championships 2006 Day 2 (19/09)
badMania 09-18-2006, 07:51 AM Again, 65 matches will be played tomorrow (but there's some walkovers due to last minutes withdrawals). Here's the pick of tomorrow's matches:
MS ROUND OF 64 (14 MATCHES)
Taufik Hidayat vs Ng Wei (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- poor Ng Wei, he is drawn against the unpredictable and temperamental Taufik. It could go to 3 sets!
Anup Sridhar vs Liao Sheng-Shiun
Aamir Ghaffar vs Dicky Palyama
Ronald Susilo vs Park Sung Hwan -- bad luck for Ronald...I think he will join Kendrick Lee and pack up for hime.
MD ROUND OF 64 (10 MATCHES)
Ali Shahhoseini/Golam Reza Bagheri vs Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan -- the young pair's debut match in the WC. They should breeze through the first match.
Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen vs Jurgen Wouters/Ruud Bosch
WS ROUND OF 64 (15 MATCHES)
Cheng Shao-Chieh vs Tine Rasmussen (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- the Danes had a good run in Hong Kong and she faces last year's bronze medallist. Cheng to win.
Julia Mann vs Hwang Hye Youn
Charmaine Reid vs Li Li -- while the guys are likely to pack up by tomorrow, the girls have a chance to progress to at least round of 16. Li Li should win her first match.
Salakjit Ponsana vs Eriko Hirose -- a tricky but managable tie for the Jap girl.
XD ROUND OF 64 (10 MATCHES)
Hendry Kurniawan Saputra/Li Yujia vs Zheng Bo/Zhao Tingting (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- the Chinese just won a title at the HK Open. But, Saputra/Li will put up a decent fight.
Shintaro Ikeda/Satoko Suetsuna vs Robert Mateusiak/Nadizda Kostiuczyk -- a tough match for both pairs and I pick the Polish pair to prevail!
The WD matches first round matches have not been completed. 16 matches to be played in the round of 32 tomorrow.
hcyong 09-18-2006, 08:50 AM Agree with all your predictions, badMania
badMania 09-18-2006, 01:09 PM WD ROUND OF 32 (15 MATCHES)
Jo Novita/Gresya Polii vs Piret Hamer/Helen Reino -- the INA pair was not convincing today...they lost a set  Tomorrow's match should be easier before the big clash with Gao Ling/Huang Sui on Wednesday.
Kumiko Ogura/Reiko Shiota vs Fong Chew Yen/See Phui Leng -- the Korean pair's withdrawal opens up a chance for the cute Jap pair to progress through to the quarter-final where an expected match against Du Jing/Yu Yang beckons.
Du Jing/Yu Yang vs Joanne Nicholas/Natalie Munt -- should be a breeze for the Chinese pair.
Johanna Persson/Elin Berglom vs Duang-Anong Arunkesorn/Kunchala Vorawichitchaikul -- both pairs are average and both were stretched to 3 sets today. The Thai pair to win!
Miyuki Maeda/Satoko Suetsuna vs Kamila Augustyn/Nadiezda Kostiuczyk -- the Jap pair to win!
Chou Chia-Chi/Koo Pei Ting vs Gail Emms/Donna Kellogg -- should be a breeze for the 3/4 seed.
Jiang Yanmei/Li Yujia vs Lena Frier-Kristensen/Kamilla Rytter-Juhl (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- this match could yet again go to rubber-sets. I hope the Singaporean pair win!
ctjcad 09-18-2006, 01:46 PM Salakjit Ponsana vs Eriko Hirose -- a tricky but managable tie for the Jap girl.
This one should be a neat treat...both are solid..
..hmm, i still remember Eriko's very emotional moment, quite vividly, after losing to Wang Chen(if i'm not mistaken) in last yr's WC. Poor gal. Almost as if i was there giving her another Kleenex box to wipe all her tears...:p:( ..
Let's see what Eriko has learned and prepared during this 1 yr span. Will she improve on her mental approach??..;) ..
Another day of upsets probably.
hcyong 09-18-2006, 11:41 PM I wouldn't call yesterday a day of upsets. Most of the matches turned out the way as expected, but without it being boring fortunately. A few minor upsets spiced it up further. But overall, an average badminton day.
Jessica 09-19-2006, 01:42 AM All the interesting matches will start Wednesday...All the top players are playing...
Ethan 09-19-2006, 03:43 AM Saputra/Li vs Zheng/Zhao going to start soon, anyone watching live now ? or the telecast hasn't started yet ?
badMania 09-19-2006, 04:06 AM Wow...Hendry Kurniawan Saputra/Li Yujia just win the first set 22-20 despite trailing 19-20. So, it will take 3 sets if Zheng Bo/Zhao Tingting are to win the game as what most people predict.
badMania 09-19-2006, 04:08 AM In the other XD match, Robert Mateusiak/Nadiezda Kostiuczyk have beaten the Jap pair Shintaro Ikeda/Satoko Suetsuna in straight sets 21-15, 21-16.
badMania 09-19-2006, 04:13 AM Zheng/Zhao lead 11-5 at the interval in the second set. This match will go to a rubber.
badMania 09-19-2006, 04:17 AM The Indian pair V, Diji/Jwala Gutta have taken the second set 21-17 in their match against Gan Teik Chai/Fong Chew Yen. The Malaysian won the first set 21-18. So, another rubber game...
Zheng/Zhao take the second set 21-13.
Chien Yu-Chin/Cheng Wen-Hsing have won their first match, beating the Spanish pair 21-15, 21-8.
Ethan 09-19-2006, 04:17 AM Ya, the first set between them was neck and neck until the end. Very interesting the match from now on !
Ethan 09-19-2006, 04:20 AM 20-11 for the CHN pair, rubber set as everyone predicted. The SIN pair has 10 less smash winners compared to the first set, maybe the CHN pair manage to counter their smash or maybe the SIN pair is conserving their energy ?
Ethan 09-19-2006, 04:25 AM The malaysian pair leads 11-7 going into interval while the CHN and SIN pair is fighting neck and neck again. In the meantime, Chen Hong is going to play against pedro yang soon. A warmup before a potential TH clash later.
badMania 09-19-2006, 04:26 AM Xie Zhongbo/Zhang Yawen are also playing and they just take the first set 21-8.
rhinovinda 09-19-2006, 04:27 AM oh no my live scoring stops.....blank display...how come?.
arice_MAS 09-19-2006, 04:28 AM All the interesting matches will start Wednesday...All the top players are playing...
so chong wei will play today or tomorrow?
Ethan 09-19-2006, 04:29 AM Xie Zhong Bo/Zhang Ya Wen looks very comfortable against the nepalese pair 21-8, 7-3. Still a tight battle between the SIN pair and Zheng/Zhao at 8-8. While Gan/Fong is pulling away 16-11 in the decider
badMania 09-19-2006, 04:29 AM Zheng/Zhao edge ahead 11-8 at the interval. Come on Hendry!
Ethan 09-19-2006, 04:31 AM so chong wei will play today or tomorrow?
Chong Wei playing tomorrow against bjorn joppien, the german guy that hope to be famous in malaysia tomorrow after failling in his own country:D
Ethan 09-19-2006, 04:34 AM exciting stuffs between Gan/Fong against the Indian pair 20-19 in the decider, the SIN pair apparently ran out of steam, 10-18 now while chen hong is having it easy with 11-4 in the first set
Ethan 09-19-2006, 04:36 AM Gan/Fong checks in 21-18, 17-21, 21-19
badMania 09-19-2006, 04:36 AM Gan Teik Chai/Fong Chew Yen survive a late comeback by the Indian pair as they win the match 21-18, 17-21, 21-19.
Xie Zhongbo/Zhang Yawen cruise through the first match 21-8, 21-8.
Zheng Bo/Zhao Tingting have also won in rubber-sets 20-22, 21-13, 21-15.
Dreamzz 09-19-2006, 04:39 AM good performance for the sing pair, too bad they met such tough opponents so early.
but good potential for the future ...
Ethan 09-19-2006, 04:40 AM Chen Hong leading comfortably 20-11 in first set, seems unlikely to have an upset. Not that it seemed probable at first. The next two hours will involve lightweights except pi hongyan(no disrespect to any of the competitors) with Ng Wei against TH scheduled at around 7:40pm malaysian time :p

hey!!! where do you guys get the scores? I'm only getting scores from tournamentsoftware.com and it appears that it doesn't update that fast enough. Could you please tell me where to go?
Ethan 09-19-2006, 04:51 AM Chen Hong 12-6 second set, strangely, the stats shows that chen hong made 21 smash winners in the first set and pedro 11 net winners that accounts to the 21-11 score. The second set was more of a normal thing with a mixture of winners by those two. Technical error or what ?

Same here, just that whenever i feel that the update is too slow, I reload the window or should i say relaunch the window. Sometimes you have to do it manually :D
Anyways, Chen Hong won his game 21-11, 21-9 with a staggering 31 smash winners out of 62 rallys played

So... that's the trick.
Still, it doesn't work with me. I tried reloading. I tried opening a new window and nothing happens. Poor me. I guess I have to visit the same page tomorrow. It's closing time here anyway and have to go. Got a badminton game to catch.
Thanks a lot for your reply.

qwertyu 09-19-2006, 12:04 PM Malaysian ladies Ooi/Mooi are leading the swiss ladies
10-6. They should take this opportunity to beat the swiss as the seeded players on their segment just gave a walkover to the swiss.
qwertyu 09-19-2006, 12:07 PM Msia ladies are 14-9 up agt the swiss, if they beat the swiss they will meet the taiwanese in 3rd round.
badMania 09-19-2006, 12:10 PM The Indonesian pair, Jo Novita/Gresya Polii have thrashed their opponent 21-5, 21-11. The real test awaits tomorrow...with yet another rendevous with Gao Ling/Huang Sui. yes........................
qwertyu 09-19-2006, 12:29 PM The swiss pulled 1 set back. 22-20. Poor Malaysian did not convert 2 game points. Now they are forced to play in the rubber.
DoublesPlayer 09-19-2006, 12:30 PM Tough opponent for Novita/Polli, they are improving though ... Indonesia haven't had a good Women's players after Mia Audina's generation, is must be the interest/talent issue as oppose to training issue. They could have just trained the Women's with the Men's, but I know it's not that simple ...

Yes, there are some improvements over the past 1 year. Jo/Gresya are definitely a top 10 pair.
qwertyu 09-19-2006, 12:42 PM Ooi/Mooi beat the swiss ladies, they are the only 3rd unseeded players in round 3 (besides Indian and Singaporean pairs). Intersting thing is the Indian pair who enetred the 3rd round without having to play a single set. The Korean 3rd seed gave them a walkover.
