seawell 09-18-2006, 08:09 PM Day 1 Pics - WC 2006
from sohu!
Scott Kam 09-18-2006, 09:11 PM Who is the on-the-knee gentleman:confused:
2cents 09-18-2006, 09:47 PM Who is the on-the-knee gentleman:confused:
That's Luka Petric from Slovenia celebrating his victory against PER's Rodrigo Pacheco. (21-14, 21-14)
2cents 09-18-2006, 10:17 PM Last time, at Hong Kong open, we saw a Hong Kong player (Sally?) was playing with long pants. Now again, at WC, long pants gain even more popularity. :) :) Two Iranians even put Hijab (headscarf for Muslim women, or khimar in Qu'ran, or tudung in Malaysia) on. I think it is a good idea wearing headscarf to play badminton in desert to protect players from wind and sand. Hey, there is no wind in the stadium. ;) There is no moving sand either.
Can anyone play badminton in burqa ?
By the way, the purpose of wearing hijab is to avoid exposures, but in fact, those two ladies caught everybody's eyeballs. This must enlighten people how to do commercial ads...

His name is Wave Bell
Bell is his last name, and Wave is his first name.
cindie 09-18-2006, 10:39 PM His name is Clock Wave
Clock Wave?? A chinese name? :D
2cents 09-18-2006, 10:45 PM I don't know. I got his name from Google's translation services which can translate Chinese web page into a readable English web page. :)

seawell, thanks for sharing the pics..
CLELY 09-18-2006, 11:31 PM Good contribution for those pictures, gracias! Any picture about interior of the Palacio de Deportes? Is the Palacio same deluxe and representative like last year's venue the Arrowhead Pond? I can't see the picture of this stadium globally! As I know, the Palacio is huge multi-function place with capacity approx.16.000 spectator.

hehe, yah, that's an eye-catcher, for sure-quite unusual..The dress makes them more like "recreational"/hobby player(s).. :p ..At the recent HK Open, we saw Sally do an exhibition, which is understable, not so much for competition..;)
BTW, you don't mean by them "literally" playing outdoor in the desert do you??with wind and sand blowing??..hehe;) :)
Wong8Egg 09-19-2006, 12:18 AM the last picture of the 2 Iranians girl almost reminded me the ladies who play badminton at the backyard. Although this pair probably play 5X better than I am.
Thanks for all the pics
Chire 09-19-2006, 12:51 AM Cool to see Bao switching to AT700! I didn't know he used it before NS8000, but anyway, I think AT700 is the most excellent choice and should give a boost to his shots. Noticing also Sony switching back to MP99, wonder what was wrong with the AT800 Offensive.
Excellent photos anyway.
Simp84 09-19-2006, 01:04 AM Thanks for sharing the pics!! Btw, from the pic above, what's the name of the china coach that's talking to Bao CL ? I've always seen him but do not know his name? Anyone please help? Thanksss.. ;) His name is "Zhong Bo"... hopefully thats the correct way of writing it in English.. But clock wave is fine too! lol:D

not4u 09-23-2006, 07:46 PM That looks totally dumb to be wearing scarffs and long pants like that.
