View Full Version : Taufik must wait to learn his fate
TheStar Sept 19th
DEFENDING world champion Taufik Hidayat must wait until Saturday at the earliest to learn his fate for storming out of last month's Hong Kong Open, the International Badminton Federation (IBF) said yesterday.
In an unprecedented incident in top-class badminton, the Indonesian walked out of his quarter-final against arch-rival and Olympic champion Lin Dan at the Hong Kong Open just three minutes into the game in protest at a changed line-call.
The IBF said if Hidayat reached the semi-finals they would postpone a decision until after he exited the tournament.
The fiery Indonesian begins his bid to retain his world title against 13th-seeded Ng Wei of Hong Kong today.

Wah.. that's quite a pressure for Taufik. Need to play and at the same time waiting for his fate.. Wonder if this might affect his performance?

It shouldnt affect his performance. He has learned from the old experience (gossip of having son) that he heard before semifinal IO2006 vs Chen Yu. Go Taufik, grab the title again!!!.

I think this is stupid.
Seem that someone want to make it an even big issue.
The umpire is the one who suggested for a walkover if Taufik is not happy with the decision, then there should not be a dispute over his conduct.
As an umpire should never suggest a walk over over such dispute.
The outcome could have been easily solved with a "let".
Should there be no action taken against the umpire too?
As what Taufik did said, if you do not know how to be an umpire, don't be an umpire.
If they are going to ban Taufik, what might happened.
Boycott from Indonesia team?
Most probably a fined but who start the error of fault by indicating a walkover?
If the umpire suggest walkover if the player is not happy with the outcome then it should be the umpire to held responsible as it was not in the badminton law to do that.
I hope IBF should look at it carefully.

..hmm, we don't know exactly what was said, to & from whom, in detail..All we've got so far are reports from INA media, which only came from Taufik & PBSI's camp. There is/are none from the referee nor umpire. Personally, i *doubt* the referee/umpire DID say those..
Yah, I agree with IBF should look at this issue carefully, fair and square..;)
BTW, i'm sure you know, there's already another thread, a pretty long one, containing a long list of posts discussing this matter..:p ;)
