View Full Version : World Championships 2006 Day 3 (20/09)
badMania 09-19-2006, 01:02 PM Finally, the big guns are unleashed on the third day of competition. It will be another busy day with 69 matches being played (and 3 walkovers). So, here's my pick of the matches:
MS ROUND OF 32 (16 MATCHES)
Lee Chong Wei vs Bjoen Joppien -- a tricky first tie for the top seed, but, he should face no problem.
Andrew Smith vs Sony Dwi Kuncoro -- Smith has improved a lot...but Sony should beat him.
Przemyslaw Wacha vs Kuan Beng Hong -- a potential upset here...but Kuan should win.
Kestusis Navickas vs Taufik Hidayat -- should be a breeze for Taufik compared to today's match against Ng Wei.
Shoji Sato vs Boonsak Ponsana (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- the Thai to win!
Roman Spitko vs Dicky Palyama
MD ROUND OF 32 (16 MATCHES)
Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto vs Glenn Warfe/Ross Smith -- the Indonesian pair should breeze through the first match.
Chan Chong Ming/Koo Kien Keat vs Hwang Ji Man/Han Sang Hoon -- one of the few intriguing matches in MD tomorrow. The Malaysian pair to win!
Sudket Prapakamol/Patapol Ngernsrisuk vs Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- the Indonesian pair was not at their best today. They better perform tomorrow! Should be an exciting match!
WS ROUND OF 32 (15 MATCHES)
Zhang Ning vs Xing Aiying
Wong Mew Choo vs Fransisca Ratnasari (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- it will be a huge achievement if Nana can win tomorrow. Wong has a slight edge!
Tracey Hallam vs Ella Karachkova
Kamila Augustyn vs Tine Rasmussen
Li Li vs Petya Nedeltcheva -- the Bulgarian is seeded 5/8, so, a tough match for Li LI. I hope she wins!
WD ROUND OF 16 (8 MATCHES)
Gao Ling/Huang Sui vs Jo Novita/Gresya Polii -- a huge match for the Indonesian no 1 pair. It will be marked as their biggest achievement if they were to beat Gao/Huang.
Wei Yili/Zhang Yawen vs Gail Emms/Donna Kellogg (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- the Chinese pair to win!
Aki Akao/Tomomi Matsuda vs Saralee Thoungthongkam/Sathinee Chankrachangwong -- the Thai pair to win!
Jiang Yanmei/Li Yujia vs Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen -- no question...the Chinese pair to win!
XD ROUND OF 32 (14 MATCHES)
Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir vs Neven Rihtar/Maja Savor -- no problem for the top seed.
Koo Kien Keat/Wong Pei Tty vs Hendra Wijaya/Frances Liu Fan -- the Malaysian pair should win!
Robert Blair/Natalie Munt vs Tsai Chia-Hsin/Cheng Wen-Hsing (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- the English pair has an edge.
khwong 09-19-2006, 01:06 PM Really a tricky tie for LCW but should not be a real problem.
khwong 09-19-2006, 01:09 PM If WMC can play with 80% of her real potential and not only 20% during the first set against Chien Yu Chin. She could win against nana.
alohio12 09-19-2006, 02:16 PM i disagree with this prediction
Robert Blair/Natalie Munt vs Tsai Chia-Hsin/Cheng Wen-Hsing (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- the English pair has an edge.
2cents 09-19-2006, 02:22 PM Another boring day needs to be killed. Really nothing to watch until day 4 :D
red00ecstrat 09-19-2006, 06:23 PM Another boring day needs to be killed. Really nothing to watch until day 4 :D
This should be a good one Sudket Prapakamol/Patapol Ngernsrisuk vs Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan!
I hope Sudket Prapakamol and Patapol Ngernsrisuk are gonna take the match!
cooler 09-19-2006, 07:30 PM i more worry of if i can get TH rackets:D
aquaboi 09-19-2006, 10:14 PM Shoji Sato vs Boonsak Ponsana (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- the Thai to win!
hmmm...not so fast...i feel shoji could take this one...3 sets...
hcyong 09-19-2006, 10:24 PM Agree with all your predictions, badMania although some matches look a bit dicey.
Sammy 09-20-2006, 12:06 AM Shoji Sato vs Boonsak Ponsana (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- the Thai to win!
hmmm...not so fast...i feel shoji could take this one...3 sets...
I hope Thai players can concentrate on their games despite of their home political un-rest. Hopefully everything back in their home will be fine soon.

**KZ** 09-20-2006, 01:45 AM From the Draw it look possible if Boa beat Chong Wei and Chen Hong beat Peter Gade.
erm....to me it looks impossible...chen hong has a bad record against peter and worse still BCL's record against LCW is 0:6:)

pjswift 09-20-2006, 01:59 AM will all china SF?:crying: :crying: :crying:
Why not try looking at it this way? No CHN MS in semifinals.Hafiz is dangerous when fighting fit.Fitness is his key problem and I believe he has taken steps to weight train weeks ago. He stretched LD to rubber in their last meeting, decider score being 18-21.(correct me if I'm wrong.)
CLELY 09-20-2006, 02:18 AM 7 match for INA's shuttlers in Today's schedule :
- Nova/Lilyana vs Unknown Croatian Pair (03.15pm--JKT time)
- Luluk/Alven vs Australian pair (04.20pm)
- Sony vs A.Smith (04.30pm)
- TH vs Lithuanian Navickas (06.05pm)
- Nana vs Wong MC (06.40pm)
- Markis/Hendra vs Sudket/Patapol (08.45pm)
- Jo/Gres vs Gao/Huang (08.55pm)
It seems only WD can't progress into QF. Almost impossible Jo/Gres making surprise to defeat CHN's top seed. Meanwhile Nana and Wong have same chance 50:50 to win this time, another 5 match should be pass their obstacles to face tougher contenders tomorrow.

Maybe Misbun should put him through more stamina sapping long distance runs and the occasional sprints! :D

badMania 09-20-2006, 03:30 AM Mohd Hafiz Hashim won in straight sets...an easy match for him today.
Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir begin their defense of the title without wasting much time, winning 21-11, 21-10 in about 20 mins. Tomorrow's opponent will be tougher for sure...as they are expected to face Koo Kien Keat/Wong Pei Tty.

P.S: That match ended all of a sudden n livescore disappeared. I guess Eng won 2nd set 22-20

i think this could be a close game ...
Dreamzz 09-20-2006, 04:34 AM andrew is whipping sony!
9-3!!
I don't know why they made it so difficult even to get into the live scores! I've been trying for so long without success. "User Friendly" should be the keyword for badminton fans outside Europe.
And this is supposed to be the World Championships! We can get better service for even minor events in Singapore!
Shame! Shame! Shame! to the organizers in Madrid! A disgrace indeed! I'm fedup! :(
Dreamzz 09-20-2006, 04:40 AM issit?
my livescore seems to be fine now.
andrew leading 15-13 ...
whizz319 09-20-2006, 04:40 AM anybody know why ccm/kkk is giving a walkover to the korean pair?
Dreamzz 09-20-2006, 04:42 AM holy smokes, you're right!
hmmm, what a disaster, where is ants??
**KZ** 09-20-2006, 04:43 AM argh....sony won 1st game...go andrew!!
xijiayu 09-20-2006, 04:46 AM KKK/CCM withdraw, Msia MD in deep trouble. The first WC seems too far for Msia now.
**KZ** 09-20-2006, 04:48 AM why did they withdraw? **** lar....walao...wtf!! this is malaysia's best chance...injury? maybe cos of MX
anybody know why ccm/kkk is giving a walkover to the korean pair?
This is a disaster indeed, if it's true! KKK would never give up that easily without a good fight unless his partner got injured!
Maybe LWW/TCF will come to the rescue?
hcyong 09-20-2006, 04:51 AM Must have been something wrong with CCM. Because KKK is still slated to play in the mixed. Unfortunate but these things happen. Look at Lee Hyo Jung.
hcyong 09-20-2006, 04:51 AM I don't know why they made it so difficult even to get into the live scores! I've been trying for so long without success. "User Friendly" should be the keyword for badminton fans outside Europe.

I don't know why you have a problem. I've had no problems since day 1.
pramilainc 09-20-2006, 04:52 AM I think they plead 'No contest' since Eriksen said Malaysia cannot win.
On a more serious note, since KKK mixed doubles is still standing, probly something wrong with CCM. Maybe some bad new about his father ( I remem somewhere telling he is hospitalized)
KKK/CCM withdraw, Msia MD in deep trouble. The first WC seems too far for Msia now.
xijiayu 09-20-2006, 04:53 AM why did they withdraw? **** lar....walao...wtf!! this is malaysia's best chance...injury? maybe cos of MX
I am still waiting for the latest news. I am totally devastated now.:crying:
**KZ** 09-20-2006, 04:53 AM chances seemed so bright this yr for m'sia and sudd some1's injured? this is the worse WC ever!!
Ethan 09-20-2006, 04:54 AM Jens Eriksen might have something to do with it. Hehehe... But i saw in the build up that CCM's father is ill, so i hope nothing bad happens to his father and CCM just suffer a minor injury.
twdc08 09-20-2006, 04:54 AM what?!?!?!?!?!chan injuried or what?they walkover already???
Dreamzz 09-20-2006, 04:56 AM i just hope it has nothing to do with his dad.
**KZ** 09-20-2006, 04:57 AM o...this is a nightmare....this is a nightmare...now it all depends on CTF/LWW...hope they can play up to expectations
Jessica 09-20-2006, 04:58 AM What...They withdraw???Please...Don't kidding...What happened???Really nervous...Anyone know what happened???
**KZ** 09-20-2006, 05:00 AM noone knows what happened....it just happened...argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
khwong 09-20-2006, 05:00 AM What a TRAGEDY!:crying:
I don't know why you have a problem. I've had no problems since day 1.
OK here's my problem:
I click "Open the Visual Live Score Scoreboard" as instructed, but I only got a blank scoresheet.
Then I thought maybe there is no Maacromedia Flash software installed in my PC, therefore I tried to install from the site.
But I got a message "Internet Explorer -security warning" and I couldn't install. As this is my office PC, maybe only the company administrator can install. But I had no problems for previous "Live score" results. I still could read from my current PC. :crying:
seriously. i don't think KKK/CCM is such a big loss, LWW/CTF is the more lethal pair.
Dreamzz 09-20-2006, 05:03 AM ah, but kwun, you're talking to passionate supporters here.
especially since i think a lot of the ladies especially are supporting KKK ...
plus, i worry about CTF's focus.
twdc08 09-20-2006, 05:04 AM i want to know why they walkover de???what`s the reason???
**KZ** 09-20-2006, 05:05 AM KKK/CCM had a big chance to make the finals....but this happened...this is just unexplainable....I'm speechless
Tjun Tjun 09-20-2006, 05:05 AM I hope this will not turn out to be a bad omen for Malaysia! Why, why, why ...........
ah, but kwun, you're talking to passionate supporters here.
especially since i think a lot of the ladies especially are supporting KKK ...
well, this is not a beauty contest. you can't win by the look.
plus, i worry about CTF's focus.
but if he does, he is lethal. otherwise, ...
Jessica 09-20-2006, 05:09 AM Oh my god...I don't want to believe this...Really dissapointed...They just walkover like this..Oh..i am very sad now...They really have a high chance to win...I think must be something happen to CCM
Dreamzz 09-20-2006, 05:09 AM well, this is not a beauty contest. you can't win by the look.
but if he does, he is lethal. otherwise, ...
hahahaha .... :D :D .... agreed, but then that's never stopped supporters before.
i do hope that CTF can concentrate though, i think he'll be better since rexy is there.
**KZ** 09-20-2006, 05:10 AM KKK/CCM had a big chance....a really big chance...they have very good record against Cai/Fu....and they've beaten Eriksen/Lungaard in the Thomas Cup....now....i guess we'll have to depend on CTF/LWW or else it'll be next year
other 09-20-2006, 05:11 AM OK here's my problem:

If u click that, you can choose "install xxxx"
of course, only if you are allowed to at work ;)
hcyong 09-20-2006, 05:11 AM OK here's my problem:

jaclyn 09-20-2006, 05:12 AM wow,kkk-ccm walkover quite a shock!!
wonder what worng with ccm
:crying: :crying: :crying:
lww-ctf having preesure now!
twdc08 09-20-2006, 05:12 AM Oh my god...I don't want to believe this...Really dissapointed...They just walkover like this..Oh..i am very sad now...They really have a high chance to win...I think must be something happen to CCM

Totally devastated ..... KKK is our baby!!!!! Kwun, you don't understand us!!!!:crying: :crying: :crying:
blckknght 09-20-2006, 05:13 AM Lots of walkovers this championships, aren't there? What happened to Mette Schjoldager? I'm assuming she has an injury problem because Jens Eriksen and Martin Lundgaard are still in the mens doubles. aye caramba...
still, now Jonas and Britta get to show us what they're made of against Robert Blair and Natalie Munt!
G
At the last WC, Singapore mourned when Ronald Susilo got injured with only 2 or so points from winning! Later it was confirmed that he tore his Achilles tendon. Now, a year later, he lost badly in Round 1 to Park Sung Hwan 21-10, 21-11. Unlike Peter Gade, Ronald is unable to recover in time for the major tournaments.
So whoever is injured seriously will suffer the unfortunate consequences. Lee Hyo Jun, the Korean women's doubles specialist, has no alternative but to pull out from this WC because of her recent back injury. Don't know how bad it is but she needs to rest and rehabilitate before making a return to the limelight.:(
Just hope that our Malaysian player's injury is not so bad if it is true.
yeah. i don't think Gunalan's claim of the new scoring system results in less injuries holds any water. at least no evidence of it so far.
vince 1 09-20-2006, 05:17 AM Anyone know the real reason behind the withdrawal of ours pair?
vince 1 09-20-2006, 05:19 AM BTW, Korean elite pair is crashed out, according to livescore!
wynn000 09-20-2006, 05:19 AM why why why ....very shock a !!!
Morten 09-20-2006, 05:20 AM Achilles tendon is a very bad and serious injury, few only fully recovers after that, sadly since ronald was a fresh breath in top 10 and a giant killer
Jessica 09-20-2006, 05:22 AM Do anyone know why they walkover???

Sandy 09-20-2006, 07:24 AM Wow! WMC did display some new skills. Killer instinct at side line smashes!
it wasn't strange :o
Fransisca didn't have attacking play, she run to every court side to catch the ball (some local coach talked that the Pelatnas method is "out of date").
Firdasari is much better than her. When PBSI eliminated Maria Kristin's name from Indonesia squad, actually they allowed to change with Firda. "Like and dislike" factor from coach & officiall were punished them with bad scoreline result.
So no upset, LCW beat Joppien 21-18,21-14
taufik-ist 09-20-2006, 07:25 AM LYB may smile to watch KBH's play ...."chen jin will beat him easily" :)

Hehe, Jokke will make our day! :)
Yes, good win for Beng Hong, at least he didn't fold during critical stage. KBH may not be able to beat Chen Jin but is a good opportunity to gain some valuable experience playing against future superstar. Malaysia Boleh!
taufik-ist 09-20-2006, 07:34 AM how bout indonesian players... please give me the result so far........ thx thx

Chu Liuxiang 09-20-2006, 07:34 AM LYB may smile to watch KBH's play ...."chen jin will beat him easily" :)
If KBH is struggling to beat Wacha today and nearly lost, I don't see any hope he could give a fight to Chen Jin. Just hope that he could score more than 10 points in both sets so it is not too embarassing.:D
nwy5633 09-20-2006, 07:36 AM i think KBH had nth to lose when face CJ...
he is definitely not the same level as CJ...
but he can make an upset if CJ are not aware...
so it will be an interesting match for sure

There's a lot of thing Beng Hong can do to help Team Malaysia, not necessaly by winning against Chen Jin(have to be a major upset if that happen) rather by dragging the match into longer period and tire up Chen Jin as much as possible so teammate Lee Chong Wei can be benefited, ... We will see tomorrow and may be Ben Hong should do like Joppien, pre-announce "upset" first to boast his confidence?
Chu Liuxiang 09-20-2006, 07:42 AM Revenge for Malaysia:D
LCW will beat Joachim in straight sets.:D
It will be an interesting to watch Chen Jin vs KBH. Both are not familiar with each other's game. KBH tends to perform better when he play with good players.
Misty100 09-20-2006, 07:47 AM Nothing is expected of KBH after having early exits in the previous few tournaments prior to WC. So, even if he loses to CJ, which is expected, there is no shame. But if he wins, hahaha... then he will create history, and CJ will be is biggest casualty in the tournament. KBH has nothing to lose, likewise... :) Go KBH! Give your best!

Yes, hopefully KBH is able to drag CJ into 3 long hours sets so that LHI is able to benefit from KBH. :D
Possible upset tomorrow :
Wong Miew Choo beat Zhang Ning
Kwun Beng Hong Beat Chen Jin
:D :D :D
ye333 09-20-2006, 07:50 AM KBH is not a "fighting" type player. So I think either he is lucky, does everything perfectly and beat CJ 2:0 (about 5% chance), or he remains himself and lost to CJ 0:2, scores should be around 13,14.

jbchiong 09-20-2006, 07:50 AM Vitaly Durkin was one of the finalist in the US Open 2006 XD Finals together with his partner Valerya Sorokina. They really gave the Chinese a tough fight. Unfortunate for them, they lost.
Russia is becoming a formidable country in badminton. I hope that they will improve more and be on a level with Denmark and England.
Misty100 09-20-2006, 07:51 AM That's so wicked, Han! Anyway, cross you fingers & toes, anything can happened, let's wait and see... LOL :P

Jessica 09-20-2006, 08:09 AM Well...the biggest biggest upset today is the Mas MD withdraw because of CCM is injured...Sigh...i really feel dissapointed and sad but fact is fact,we have to accept it no matter what...What i want to say is Mas fans, don't be sad, there are always another chance to win although i knew that this WC is a very good chance because they have good potential..They are really unlucky but no matter what,i will continue to support them..Now,they can only hoping for the next year WC in Mas...Don't give up...
Chu Liuxiang 09-20-2006, 08:09 AM I think this will be the quarterfinal result: :D :D
LCW beat BCL
KBH beat CJ
HH beat LD:p
BCL may have problem in round 16 against 3 times Asian Champion Sony Dwi Kuncoro. If Bao lost in round 16, Chen Hong most likely will lost to Taufik in round 16 too, then, China may only have LD and CJ in last eight. A disaster for China tomorrow in MS.
