Launch of badminton.tv – improving your badminton
BADMINTON England have partnered with technology specialists Inchima Limited to build a coaching website that is packed full of video instruction and articles helping you to improve your game.
badminton.tv is a site dedicated to helping grass roots, club and county players improve their game with professional and insightful instruction. With new and unique content added every month it will offer a unique service to badminton players in both England and all over the world.
The site will also give you unparalleled access to top players and coaches with tips and advice from the professionals, player interviews as well as diaries and blogs from all levels of the game.
The service is a unique opportunity to improve your game at your own pace and in the comfort of your own home – each lesson will be focused on one practical learning point that you can immediately take onto the court to improve your game.
Each member will get tips, lessons and drills in the form of video, audio and articles as well as pro-player analysis. It will look at all aspects of the game to help you improve at every level. As well as coaching advice from top coaches and players there will be help with the mental game, strategy, psychology and tactics, racket and equipment advice, fitness videos and tutorials.
Everyone gets a ‘try before you buy’ one month no risk trial. A fully comprehensive membership package with access to all content costs as little as £2.99 per month for BADMINTON England members.
Take a visit - www.badminton.tv (http://www.badminton.tv) to start improving your game.

The site will utilise a number of BADMINTON England coaches (like Lee Jae Bok) but the resident coach of the site is Steve Butler (http://www.badmintonengland.co.uk/show_news.asp?section=000100010009&monthinview=2005/10/01&id=433).

Why does the site ask for a credit card? A card validation is required to stop abuse i.e. repeated trials by the same person. Even though credit card details are asked for no charge to your card is made during the trial period.
Also, no card details are kept or stored at any time.
If the service is cancelled before the trial is complete then no payments are ever take.

Ah ha! I thought that I recognised some of the teaching style. I'm glad to see Badminton England promote Steve's coaching methods, because I think they are easy to understand and work well :)
This has been a significant gap in the BE coaching materials. The current level one and two manuals are excellent at telling people WHAT to coach, but curiously quiet about HOW to coach it.
For example, how do you coach a forehand overhead clear? Don't look to the coaching manuals; they tell you how to play a clear, but not how to teach it.
This is perhaps not surprising, given that the coaching materials are still under review -- when they bring out new guidelines, they want to make sure they are the right guidelines, rather than confuse coaches all over again in a few months time.
It looks like Steve's coaching methods may be gaining influence. I think that's a good thing, because they are simple and they work :)

Forza Badminton UK Ltd is now owned and managed by Steve Butler (http://www.forzabadminton.co.uk/teamforza.asp?show=Butler) so his work with BADMINTON England is restricted.
It is good to see a National Governing body using resources like Steve and providing a platform such as www.badminton.tv to help people improve their badminton.

And your point is?
You get a month completely free if you go for a monthly subscription...
You get a month completely free if you go for an annual subscription...
If you don't like the service cancel and it costs you nothing...you get everything free.

Yes but your saying you 'can't just sign up for a free month .. it assumes you want a subscription unless you physically cancel it
that is the problem.
what is the average length of these videos? and how often is new content added? you could get a year membership but that might not be a good idea if its updated only once every 3 months.
Sign up today and try badminton.tv with no risk and no commitment!
The no risk trial gives you access to all content for one month. If you do not cancel by the end of the month then you will be charged monthly and continue to enjoy all content.
gotta read the fine print :)
either way, I 'might' try this for 1 month period.

A free month…is a free month – pure and simple. You can just sign up for a free month and not pay a penny…that is the idea of a trial. No problem.
Each video clip is on average between 1 minute and 5 minutes for some of the interviews. New content will be added weekly but there is a guarantee of a minimum of 5-10 coaching clips per month as well as other content (as it states on the site).
Badminton is a strange sport. :p
It’s a shame that people who put their heart and soul into a venture don’t get the support they deserve. We all know that no one will make their fortune out of badminton…it really is a poor mans sport. But it doesn’t stop us trying our best…
The community at BadmintonCentral is very privileged that someone such as Kwun (and his helpers) provide this platform for everyone to use. It takes a lot of effort and some days…it isn’t a pleasure. How many can say they have supported Kwun financially...or even providing some unique content? Raphael Sachetat is another badminton ‘trooper’ that works tirelessly to provide the badminton community with services such as news and photographs. Yet, there are hundreds of websites that have his photographs on with badmintonphoto.com pasted across them…so, why not pay for them so he can provide a better service to the badminton community?
For some reason there is suspicion when someone provides a new service…especially online. This doesn’t happen in other sports and what compounds this is when a small payment is required to access the service. There always seems to be an expectation that it should be given away. Unfortunately, the economics don’t allow for this and it needs to support itself.
But hey…we soldier on.

I concur with Badders in that their is certainly no financial gain for the Promoters and founders of this site The amount of effort put in fars outweighs any income they will receive, but they do it for the love of badminton and the desire to promote the game.
The site is open and frank about it uses, fees, and cancellation procedures. There is certainly no scam or trick AFAIK. but If you feel insecure about the site, then don't use it.
With reference to the funding Kwun comments a long time ago Kwun did request paypal donations to fund ther costs of running BC in an attempt to not have Adverts. I beleive he only raised $200 though, thus we now have Google adverts.

many poeple feel 'insecure' about using thier VISA or MC online for anything....
I dont have either at the moment so its not even an option for me
Why don't you provide another method of payment, I would be willing to use PayPal and its one of the most common forms of payment on the internet.
I dont see why It would be very difficult for your website to allow this.
I would rather pay upront for an agreed amount, I'd get to see what the exchange is on Canadian dollars before i wire the money and its how i'd prefer to pay.

Thanks for the feedback - it's been very useful.
We are investigating PayPal as an additional way of paying. Will let you know how we get on.

badminton.tv now accepts PayPal! Trial period of one month also applies to PayPal so give it a go...
