Hmm, speaking of JR/LP, i don't know much abt MD history, but if JR/LP were to win the title this yr, will that make them the OLDEST ever MD pair to grab the title??..anyone knows??..

JR is only 28 I think and Paaske is like 30 or something so I don't think they're older than Tony and Howard combined :) . they eliminated my korean pair so my badmintonmanager team has suffered many casualties today  .

Kido & Setiawan won  , as expected  Was impressed in the thomas cup and likewise was more impressed then by CMC&KKK than TFC & WWL. Rooting for Kido.Setiawan now.

Hi guys, it is me here from Madrid now. There are a lot of interesting matches today and I can hardly concentrate on a single match as there is always other good matches on other courts. The atmosphere has been fantastic with a lot of Danish and french supporters. There are some Indonesian and Malaysia supporters but it is very little compare to the Danes. Virtually no Chinese and Thai supporters here in Madrid.

Sorry as I didnīt take a lot of pics today but I have got some. I will post it when I back to home next week, donīt expect too much though for the quality. And I remember someone told me in other thread that no one can bring DV in to the stadium but there are a lot today. It is very strange that lots of people recording the matches at this stage. What I see is most of it is from the national squad but some is from the audience.

I donīt know where I should start to talk about the matches today. I will just pick a few here. KBH play exceptionally well today although he lost to CJ in 3 vert tight sets. Obviously his confidence is now up and he should progress in the future. As for Hafiz, a slow start for him and manage to save a match point in the 2 set and evetually win the 2nd and 3rd. Good for him but tomorrow will be tough. ZhengBo and ZhaoTingting have a lot of problem today and they are not happy to both of them. They even didnīt talk to each other for a short period. Nathan and Gails is so strong today and they are really in good form. KKK and WPT make the biggest upset today by beating the number one INA seed. I can see KKK is concentrating in XD after walkover for the MD. He play very well and very patient. But WPT and CEH lost their match in 3 sets to ZYW and WYL. Also, to mentioned that ZhangJiewen is in trouble with his injury. After the WD match, she just sat down on the floor covering her ankle with ice. A bit worrying.

Ok, I think I have talk too much, might tell u guys more tomorrow. Oh ya, I met MING from France today.

Hey, elwin81, thanks for your report, but how come not mention any about Chen Hong vs Taufik? You missed that one :(

I heard that Zhao Tingting complained Zheng Bo brainless, while Zheng Bo said Zhao Tingting stupid, keeping feeds Nathan's back hand which he's strongest in attack. Some reported both Yang Wei and Zhang Jiwen got injured. I thought they should have walkedover...

Day 4 is really like the real start point of the Championship

Firstly, thanks Elwin for your report. You must be having such a great tie there. As for this dysfunctional Chinese couple, LYB should give them both a slap across their faces and tell them to grow up. Calling each other names is pretty immature. Dumb & dumber perhaps??:p

You know what's LYB's reaction? After the match, their coach blamed both, especially Zheng Bo, then came LYB. He said, "not bad results, not bad at all"

That is one strange reaction. Perhaps he's trying to diffuse the situation. Confusing indeed:confused:

Badminton: Titleholder Hidayat crashes out of world championships
22 September 2006 0401 hrs

MADRID : Defending champion Taufik Hidayat crashed out of the world badminton championships on Thursday after an extraordinary defeat to Chen Hong, the sixth seed from China.

The unseeded champion from Indonesia led 5-3 in the second game and 17-16 and 18-17 in the third but may have paid the price for lack of match practice in a 14-21, 21-18, 21-19 loss to Chen.

Hidayat, who has spent much of the year on the sidelines, nevertheless looked to be playing well enough to win the match in the first game, in which he took a long early lead and often tied the rallies up cleverly at the net.

This was both a way of avoiding problems with the wind drift and nullified Chen's dangerous jump smash, but Hidayat's concentration appeared to wander in the second game.

This proved a crucial lapse, because although he came back from 11-16 to 16-18 with some more tactical net play, he could not rescue that game, and after that he was always in difficulties against an increasingly motivated opponent.

"In the first game I was too cautious because of the drift," said Chen, a former All-England champion.

"Maybe I was a bit too cautious and I played a bit more cleverly after that.

"I think my confidence was higher than Taufik's.

"In our previous meetings I lost more to him (than I won) but I was not affected by that.

"I had little pressure on me, and Taufik was under more pressure because to win the title he would have had to sweep up four Chinese players, all at their best."

This sounded like Chen being loyal to his colleagues, because the only stage at which another Chinese player seems likely to stand in Chen's path is in the semi-finals on Saturday.

Hidayat slid away into the night and escaped interview on a particularly disappointing day for Indonesia.

Earlier, Nova Widianto and Lilyana Natsir lost their world mixed doubles title when they were beaten 21-15, 18-21, 22-20 by Koo Kien Kit and Wong Pei Tty of Malaysia.

Chen's success earned him a quarter-final with Peter Gade, the former world number one from Denmark, who looked in good form as he won 21-14, 21-13 against Shoji Sato, a surprise survivor from Japan.

The winner may well play Lin Dan the brilliant second-seeded former world number one from China who produced an excellent win and a minor controversy afterwards.

Lin triumphed 21-16, 21-12 against Park Sung Hwan, the 13th seed from Korea, and announced that he was feeling good, better than the day before.

But when it came to answering questions about Friday's match against Muhammad Hafiz Hashim from a Malaysian journalist, he asked which country the questioner came from and, on being told, immediately walked out.

Although the sudden exodus annoyed some of the press, the reasons are probably no more sinister than a wish not to give away secrets to his rivals.

The other leading Malaysian, Lee Chong Wei, often played like a top seed during a well-taken 21-16, 21-12 win over Joachim Persson, the young and developing Dane.

"I think I'm only playing to 70 percent of my capacity," claimed Lee.

"And I have never lost to my next opponent."

That is the third of four Chinese men in the last eight. The fourth is Chen Jin.

Earlier Petra Overzier feared she might be too ill to compete in the world badminton championships but instead produced the biggest surprise of the tournament so far when she reached quarter-finals.

The 24-year-old from Mulheim had been suffering from a virus which made her white in the face and left her on the floor for half an hour after her first match, but she followed it by defeating the fourth-seeded Wang Chen.

Overzier's 22-20, 4-21, 22-20 success was also unusually dramatic. She looked out of it after her second game collapse, and was behind almost the whole way in the final game until she sneaked up on the Hong Kong player right at the end.

"I am a little bit ill," said Overzier.

"I also had problems with the wind and decided in the second game to stop attacking.

"I made less mistakes after that and I never thought I would lose. It was difficult but it was OK." - AFP/de

The surprise so far, at least for me, is the progress of Luluk/Alvent. And they've done it quietly, almost un-noticeable... ;) :)

They have not done well in the past tournaments...yes...but..they have the best draw in the WC (at least until QF). To lose to an Australian and German pair will be unthinkable...

Ok please tell me who are doing the commentating for this game on CCTV5? The one with the softer voice is clearly lacking in communication skills: monotonous tone throughout! And he rarely speaks 3 sentences in a row! The other more experienced commentator is always trying to prompt him to speak more.
that person's name is Zhang Wei,
Cai Meng(蔡猛,CCTV commentator) said he is Chinese MD player.

I'm also kinda dissapointed with that match. I was expecteda close match.. but not in 2 sets. I wonder what happened in the 2nd set. The first set was close.

Well, i dont think they are overconfident. It was the coaches who were confident. Rexy has described their game with two words after that: nervous and tense. He doesn't understand why they put so much pressure on themselves. Furthermore, their service was faulted 6 times.

Anyway, very very disappointed with them. They should be experienced enough to play in a big tournament. They should know how to handle and suppress their nervosity. Never change at all!!!
