View Full Version : Picnic/ backyard sport (GRRR)
giant_q_tip 09-20-2006, 04:22 PM so my sisters think thats theres no fitness required in badminton, they think its the typical backyard sport, where you would pass the birdie to each other, with very little running required, well you dont have to run according to them because they think the objective is to hit the ball high so your opponent can walk towards the birdie and pass it back to you. they said that Tennis is the most fastest raquet sport (idiots)
well im trying to convince them that theyre wrong, but i just dont know how to explain badminton briefly to them, help anyone?
they're really pissing me off, i know theyre wrong but it really bothers me and will continue unless i convince them to believe that its a really athletic and difficult sport
they said even ping pong requires more arm muscle power. sheesh
Russki Bear 09-20-2006, 05:52 PM Make them watch a WC match!
Or tell them the fastest smash speeds.
But really, that is what sisters do :) Sounds like they're just poking at you. You could probably give them all the evidence in the world and they would still poke the same fun at you.
Eurasian =--(O) 09-20-2006, 06:19 PM Tell them at the international level players can
jump 3ft+
hit at 300 km/h
burn up 10 1000 calories/hour
dive
run more in an hour than you would playing tennis for 3 hours
only get 5 breaks in three games that can last up to 90 min (as compared to Tennis where they get breaks every 5 min)
I read that when children are chosen for sports in asia at a young age they are taken through fitness measures, the fittest children (5-7 year olds) are taken to box, the second fittest group play badminton.
__Lam 09-20-2006, 07:07 PM kick their asses in a game rofl, or hit it just so that they can barely reach it, and tire the crap out of them. and head smash headshots, lol.

they think that sports that gives you big muscles on your upper body are the best sports, yet they cant even lift a 10 pounder =/
i play soccer though, and they think its a sissy sport, and boring because its not popular in america.
and for those photos, hmmm i think it has an effect on me..... j/k

They aren't very indonesian if they don't have any knowledge of badminton. Have they ever been to Indonesia?

wah gimana tuh mas? masa orang indo gak pernah liat pertandingan bulutangkis? mak gw aja yg jarang nonton TV waktu di Indo aja ngerti bulu tangkis...kalo gw pergi main bulutangkis selalu dibandingin dgn tjun tjun/rudy hartono/liem swie king...
wow....are you sure? ask your parents whether they have seen them in TV... swimming is big in Indonesia because if you are good enough PRSI will send you to either USA, singapore, or australia to train and go to school. I went down that road since I was 10, but never good enough to represent to country...I barely made the provincial team when I'm still swimming :), hence didn't get sent abroad anywhere...
Monster 09-22-2006, 12:14 AM Is it photo effects or is it just me but LCW seems to be able to jump very high !

If they are 'idiots' as you say then why waste your time trying to convince them of anything? .. i would just ignor them, thier loss.

Although they don't do sports, you can ask them to play a game of badminton with you and show them how demanding this game is.
I was once also challenge by one of my colleagues at work who is a tennis player and claimed that he beat his school high badminton champ in badminton.
Instead of arguing with him I just invited him for a game of badminton. We played only one set of 15 points. At the end of the set he acknowledged that he did not realised how demanding and fast the game is, he also told me that he did not know that the badminton court is sooo big.
He could not continue with the 2nd set as he ran out of breath. Case Closed no more arguments which sport is more demanding!

oh OK. since the forum doesn't allow any other reply other than english. I'll be replying in english...
I practically stopped swimming competitively since my family moved to canada. actually badminton is fun even as a backyard sport (which we know it isn't!)

Ding! The voice of reason.
GiantQTip.. if you allow to let your sister have a Badminton date with Sir Dink. They will definately change their perception of badminton after playing with him.
DinkAlot 09-24-2006, 08:26 PM ............double post.

Ants: how so? How would I change anyone's perception?
LazyBuddy 09-24-2006, 08:34 PM If ppl refuse to listen, it's their own problem. You don't need the entire world to agree with you, when you like a particular sport. There's no need to argue about "what's the best", as you can't compare an apple with a orange or a banana.
If they prefer some "real sports", let them enjoy their stuff. You do whatever you like to do, and there's no need to "prove" whether a hobby is "worthy or not" or whether it's "better or worse than xxx or yyy".
GunBlade008 09-24-2006, 10:28 PM Don't let their ignorance irritate you, you do your thing, they do their thing, and life goes on, huzzah.
