yea i agree with you... LCW just has been playing too much tournaments this year.. A rest will do him some good i guess.. but if LCW do play i believe he will redeem himself after a disappointing WC "06

I think the gaps are there because the numbers represent the players' world rankings, rather than their seed or number in the tournament

I don't think PBSI will send Simon in 5-6 * tournaments except Indonesia Open.

Easy. PBSI only send players who they know will at least reach QF or better in big tournaments so PBSI will not had to pay a lot for those players air flight tickets, other expenses etc.

Lee CW has played more than 10 tournaments, only 10 best results will be counted for the points. While Lin Dan had only 9 tournaments, so the sum was still divided by 10

LEE Chong Wei will not compete in the US$250,000 (RM922,000) China Open badminton championships in Guangzhou on Oct 17-22. But it’s not because he is running scared of Chinese head coach Li Yongbo or the fiery reception expected from the Chinese fans.

The decision, according to BA of Malaysia secretary P. Ganga Rao, was taken a week before the World Championships began on Sept 18.



Chong Wei accused Yongbo of telling Bao Chunlai to "break his (Chong Wei’s) legs" during their quarter-final match in the World Championships in Madrid. Chunlai went on to beat Chong Wei in three games.

Chong Wei will only compete in the Japan Open on Oct 10-15 although his world ranking has now dropped to second position. Lin Dan of China regained the World No 1 position on Thursday after winning the world title in Madrid on Sunday.

"The decision was made well before the incident involving Yongbo. The issue has been put to rest and Chong Wei will not be sent there for strategic reasons," said Ganga.

"Chong Wei’s main rivals are the Chinese and they will be going all out to further dent his confidence after the World Championships.

"This is why the coaches felt that it would be better for Chong Wei to skip the China Open and focus on the Asian Games."

However, Asian Games-bound Hafiz Hashim and Kuan Beng Hong will compete in both tournaments while Roslin Hashim will join them in the China Open.

Chan Chong Ming, whose father died last week, will miss the Japan Open but will resume his partnership with Koo Kien Keat in China.

National doubles coach Rexy Mainaky has also entered Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, touted as a pair with great potential, for the Japan Open.

They were first tried out during the Thomas Cup Finals in Tokyo in May.

I have mix feeling about not sending LCW to China Open. In a way, LCW needs to have a break as he has been participating way too many tournaments. However, sending him to China facing tons of good Chinese players and hostile fans can bring lots of good to CW in mental preparation which I think he's still lack of. I recall Wong Choon Hann became a much better player after he won the China Open, it's a good test to win under that kind of enviroment, in my opinion. The same can be said after Yong Hock Kin won the Indonesia Open.
It's nothing wrong keeping CW at home either, over-exposed may not be a good thing and right or wrong deicsion at this time is quite unclear until the outcome of Asian Games :D

TBH is strictly a doubles player. Last saw him in action in ABC championship. Watch out for him as you'll hear him often in future tournaments starting with Japen Open ......:) :) :)

I think this selection may not be bad afterall. Although the official statement was BAM has decided not to send LCW to CO before the WC started, everyone know about the relationship between LYB and LM. There bound to be controversial regardless - and these will be unneeded before the Asia Games.

By sending the "lesser" players to compete with the Chinese top guns, who will have high expectation to do a clean sweep after their success at WC, who knows - may be these Malaysia players may spring a few surprises here and there. Afterall, there would not be that much pressure or expectation on them, and the likes of Hafiz and KBH are not push-overs if they mentailty are right.

Actually, if Chan Chong Ming is not able to play in Japan Open, BAM should send Wong Choong Hann to pair up with KKK to play in MD since Wong has been away from international tournaments for long time. Leave Tan Boon Heong pairing with Hoon TH.

There is a seperate article in this forum that talked about how LYB and LM sort of became "enemy" dated back to the days both of them were coaches in the China team. The article was from a Chinese paper in Malaysia, however, the article is in Chinese and mainly reciting both LYB and LM's own version of the story. I read it with a pinch of salt as it it not uncommon of media to stir up such issue.

Basically what it said was at that time LYB was headcoach, and LM was coach of the Man Single team. There was a struggle for power and LM left. According to LYB, LM tried to out him by leading a group of experienced players but failed. And according to LM, he resigned because he could not agree to the method LYB used. But LM was quoted as saying that as long as LYB is part of the China national team, he will not return there.

From a neutral and on hindsight, China team did manage exceptional success under LYB. But LM also proved he is a top man single coach but bring up players like Korea LHI and Malaysia LCW, and continue to challenge China's man single players with his pupils.

How about LWW and CTF? Aren't they being sent to compete in either the Japan or China Open?

It's make or break for these two in the Asian Games so they probably need a tune up match before Doha.

We don't know how is KJ recent performance since he has withdrawn from WC2006 due to injury. Base on current form, BCL should advance to semifinal. If against LCW in semifinal, past records favor LCW.

Chong Wei's chance to bring smiles to badminton camp ahead of Asiad

PETALING JAYA: National number one men singles shuttler Lee Chong Wei will only have one chance to bring back the smiles in the Malaysian badminton camp ahead of the Asian Games, which will be held in Doha from Dec 1-15.

Chong Wei, seeded second, will begin his quest for glory in the US180,000 Japan Open which starts on Wednesday at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium.

It is the only tournament for Chong Wei to strut his stuff prior to the Asiad because coach Li Mao has decided not to field him for the Opens in China, Holland and Denmark.

National chief coach Yap Kim Hock said that Chong Wei would be kept under wraps after the Japan Open so that the Penangite could give undivided attention on his preparation for the Asiad.

There were high hopes on Chong Wei at the World Championships in Madrid recently. But the top seed crashed out in the quarter-finals after losing to China's Bao Chunlai for the first time in nine meetings.

Kim Hock said that it would be a big boost to his morale if he could get a chance to avenge his defeat to Bao at the Japan Open. However, Bao will have to overcome Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia - a player whom he had never beaten before - in the second round first. Both have received first round byes.

Malaysia will also be represented by the Hashim brothers - Hafiz and Roslin - in the Japan meet.

If Roslin does not run into any major problems, he is set to meet Chong Wei in the quarter-finals.

In the Korean Open this year, Roslin had beaten Chong Wei enroute to the runner-up spot.

His younger brother Hafis has a gigantic hurdle to clear.

He is expected to meet top seed and world champion Lin Dan of China in the quarter-finals.

At the quarter-finals in the world meet, Hafiz was outclassed by the Chinese.

Meanwhile, Kuan Beng Hong had withdrawn from the Japan Open after suffering from tonsillitis.

He will however, get back in action at the China Open next week.
