it is hard to play single when getting old. So Xia Zuanze, former world champion from China, will play double in the coming China open. They will play Cai Yan/Fu Haifeng in the 2nd round.

ZN is also an exception at 30 in the ladies team. |to7o| 10-07-2006, 04:45 PM any informations about his partner? 2cents 10-07-2006, 07:34 PM Xu Chen will play with Xia. I believe that Xu just entered Hong Kong open semi. chickenpoodle 10-07-2006, 09:14 PM i hope someone gets a video of this match :) because if they're playing fu/cai in second round, i highly doubt we'll see xu/xia any further in the tournament :( phaarix 10-08-2006, 12:57 AM Yeah that would be cool to watch :D. Maybe if someone takes a video camera they could take a video like red's of Candra/Tony vs Fu/Cai in the HKO? Good to see that Xia is still playing every now and then :). Baderz_Jas 10-08-2006, 01:08 AM he played doubles last year at the China Master (I think :p ) as well... :D I don't think he is that old either, but he didn't have chance in singles as he will lose to his teamates (LD, CH, BCL, CJ or CY) :) Just my thoughts! ;) hara^kazuko 10-08-2006, 06:17 AM It's sad to see all china players struggling to stay in the national team, I wonder what will happen to wong choon hann if he plays for china LazyBuddy 10-08-2006, 10:00 AM gettiing old ?? huum i think he's 27 no ? or maybe 28 ? it's not that old for  With all the injuries, it's hard for XXZ to stay competitive with his younger teammates in MS event. If he's not in the CHN nation team, his MS career might be extended for another 2-3 years or so, and can still remain in higher ranking if he stays healthy. However, the "internal" competition is harsh, which many CHN players claim to be even more competitve than the WC. Simp84 10-08-2006, 11:22 AM It's sad to see all china players struggling to stay in the national team, I wonder what will happen to wong choon hann if he plays for china Of all the player I pity Xia the most.. I felt he is exploited by the chinese team... the fact he wasn't chosen in Olympic2004 was the anti-climax of his career... I think he really felt the blow, take a look at how he resent Chen Hong after he lost to him during the post olympic friendly exhibition match posted here http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30947 everything seems to have gone downhill from there onwards.. and then after continuously defeat by LD in 2004 since then we haven't heard much about him... Of all chinese players I admire him the most.. he is the best! Hopefully he will make a breakthrough and come back as a great doubles player! GO XIA~~~~:D ants 10-08-2006, 11:28 AM Well career wise may not be too good for him. But he is a happily married man. But he is still happy that he can contribute as Doubles players. I'm sure he expected this to happen also. yamhill 10-08-2006, 02:00 PM i also like xia the most,,,he can be also very funny, once when he won he did something like an evil signe \w/ **KZ** 10-09-2006, 01:36 AM maybe his malaysian friend WCH may join him too...play doubles...since their not going any further in singles LazyBuddy 10-09-2006, 06:40 AM maybe his malaysian friend WCH may join him too...play doubles...since their not going any further in singles Think about the idea to pair up WCH and XXZ together in a double pair... Those 2 are my favorite players, and if they are together playing, I might yell my lungs out to cheer for them. :p jamesd20 10-09-2006, 07:26 AM Think about the idea to pair up WCH and XXZ together in a double pair... Those 2 are my favorite players, and if they are together playing, I might yell my lungs out to cheer for them. :p LOL....at least WCH can play with Xia and not lose this way! It was an incredible conversion for the former men’s singles world champion. Xia Xuanze’s smile and sense of humour has been missing on the pro tour for some months. The 2003 world champion had been left out for the 2004 Olympic Games, and ever since, he was slowly set aside from the National team while his younger team mates were making news with wins all over the planet. Yet, the player known for his leadership in the team, the “big brother”, hasn’t given up hope on his Olympic dream, at home, in 2008. And if he can’t do it in singles, he might in doubles… And he was all smiles after his incredible win with one of the top young players in the Chinese men’s double team, Xu Chen. All smiles after beating one of Malaysia’s best pairs of Chan Chong Ming and Koo Kien Keat, whogot a match point at 20/19 in the decider but didn’t take the chance. Xia and Xu got it back and won 22/20 in the decider, clinching a ticket for the quarter finals. “I really had no idea we could beat them and I was already planning on getting back to Beijing early,” said Xia in a post match press conference which made all the Chinese reporters laugh. The former world champ told the local press that he was now clearly targeting a spot in the Beijing Olympics as a doubles player, since his life was now all about “duos” ever since he got married last May to Jin Bei Lei, another badminton player who plays at provincial level. Xia even joked about the fact that he wasn’t making a lot of money and that he was looking for some sponsors, including a famous underwear brand he wouldn’t mind promoting. This joked was just made after he hinted he had kept on practising badminton to keep some of his “muscles” fit, hinting he had to fulfil his wife’s needs as a new husband… Smichz 05-30-2007, 03:19 AM yeah..i saw him in the video of 2006World Cup invitation,GZ while TH is playing with CH.I saw him playing in the court besides TH n CH's court.I was kinda suprised though..but,i'm happy for him.
