Besides, women world no.1 squash player, Nichol David also a penangite. I was wondering why such a place keep producing world class player? Is it because of the environment there or else?

nova/butet and flandy/vita win but rizal/polli lost to zhang jun Gao ling

Mohd Rizal/Gresya Polii lost in 3 sets...quite a respectable result...considering they are up against the 2 times Olympic gold medallist.

Now, its Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir against Zheng Bo/Yu Yang (tough match as always against any Chinese pair, esp featuring Zheng Bo) and Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa against Zhang Jun/Gao Ling. Once again, they stand a chance, after a straight-set victory over the WC silver-medallist.

Flandy/Vita should be a good backup pair for both the Asian Games in Doha and the Sudirman Cup in Glasgow next year.

As expected, Jo Novita/Gresya Polii lost yet again to a Chinese pair, this time to Wei Yili/Zhang Yawen in straight sets.

In the MS, Simon Santoso lost to Chen Hong in 2 sets 21-23, 17-21...a very respectable result. I hope he reaches at least Round of 16 yet again next week in GZ. Meanwhile, Taufik Hidayat continues to roll...this time beating Koichi Saeki in 3 sets 20-22, 21-7, 21-16. Typical of Taufik...always taking his time against lesser opponents. His next opponent will be Ronald Susilo...who also do well this week, beating Sho Sasaki in 3 sets.

In the MD, Tony Gunawan/Candra Wijaya crushed the ex World Champion Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen easily 21-15, 21-6 in just 25 mins. Up next is Tadaski Ohtsuka/Keita Masuda.

Badminton/Japan Open: Chong Wei, Hafiz through
13 Oct 2006
K. M . Boopathy

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LEE Chong Wei and Hafiz Hashim reached the quarter-finals of the Japan Open badminton championships but Roslin Hashim’s run was halted by Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo yesterday.

Chong Wei, the second seed, stopped England’s Andrew Smith 21-13, 21-19 in 32 minutes in the third round.

Joint fifth seed Hafiz had a more comprehensive 21-12, 21-16 win over China’s Zhu Weilun to earn a quarter-final clash with world champion and top seed Lin Dan of China today.

Lin Dan eliminated Joachim Persson of Denmark 21-12, 21-10.

However, Roslin could not reproduce the form which helped him beat Chen Yu of China on Wednesday as he fell 21-18, 21-18 to Boonsak.

Chong Wei meets Boonsak in the quarter-finals today buoyed by the fact he has beaten his rival three times this year.

Also through to the quarter-finals was Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia who had to dig deep into his reserves for a 20-22, 21-7, 21-16 win over Keichi Saeki of Japan.

Taufik plays Ronald Susilo of Singapore today and a win could pit him against Chong Wei in the semi-finals.

In the men’s doubles, Gan Teik Chai-Zakry Latif and the scratch pair of Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong advanced to the quarter-finals in contrasting styles.

Teik Chai-Zakry had to battle for 71 minutes against Hendri Kurniawan Saputra-Hendra Wijaya of Singapore before winning 21-16, 19-21, 21-15 to set up a quarter-final meeting with world champions Fu Haifeng-Cai Yun of China.

Kien Keat-Boon Heong showed they are a future top class pair when they defeated the more experienced Lee Jae Jin-Hwang Ji Man of South Korea 21-12, 14-21, 21-17 in the second round.

Boon Heong replaced Kien Keat’s regular partner Chan Chong Ming, who is mourning the death of his father, but the pair could be considered for the 2008 Beijing Olympics if the current senior combinations do not produce results.

Kien Keat-Boon Heong have yet to be tested but they face tough opposition in World No 2 Jens Eriksen-Martin Lundgaard Hansen of Denmark today.

In the women’s doubles, Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui came up short against Korean scratch pair Lee Kyung Won-Jung Youn Kyung, losing 21-18, 21-16 in the second round.

Kien Keat-Pei Tty, mixed doubles semi-finalists in the World Championships in Madrid last month, were also sent packing, beaten 21-19, 15-21, 21-12 by Denmark’s Jens Eriksen-Lena Kristiansen Frier.

Wong Mew Chew also crashed out in the women’s singles second round when she lost 21-16, 21-19 to Yu Hiarayama of Japan.

Tony/Candra vs Fu/Cai......
That will be good game....experienced players vs World Champ with speed and power...
I think Tony/Candra can defeat Fu/Cai as long as Tony as a play maker. He is such a brilliant player.

Lee Chong Wei will smash Kaori Mori until 21-0, 21-0 in this case. :D Same like last year Sudirman Cup where Shoji Sato was smashed by LCW 3-15, 0-15.

Malaysia TV 3 just showed Wong MC beat Yu from Japan. Looks like a lot of confusion. But I guess MC had lost.

What time is that?? TV3 broadcasted it?
