MEN'S SINGLES
Lin Dan vs Taufik Hidayat (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- no doubt about it, the match of the finals. Taufik is currently on form and if he is really determined to win, he should prove it on the court!
MEN'S DOUBLES
Tony Gunawan/Candra Wijaya vs Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong -- the ex Olympic champion is also on form and they should beat the scratch Malaysian pairing.
WOMEN'S SINGLES
Zhang Ning vs Xie Xing Fang
WOMEN'S DOUBLES
Gao Ling/Huang Sui vs Wei Yili/Zhang Yawen
MIXED DOUBLES
Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir vs Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa -- an all-Indonesian Final for once...and the world no 1 should take home their 5th title of the year.

MS
have been waiting for this showdown for quite a while since we only saw a partial game in the HKO. this will probably be the talk of the finals. well, for me, my heart goes to LD, but the money goes to TH to win the finals.
WS
are we getting bored by typing only 5 letters i.e. XXF and ZN? :D
XXF should win the JO from ZN. of the times they played, XXF has won quite convincingly and expect her to continue that tomorrow.
MD
young vs old? sorry Malaysian fans, the TG/CW partnership will be too strong for the Malaysian pair. just look what they did to CY/FHF - they were decimated! :crying: :crying: :crying:
WD
this should be a close contest but money, and heart, goes to GL/HS
MXD
my new love for cutie Natsir (:) ) forces me to vote for NW/LN to take the title :D :o

I think LD will win this time. He is the most consistent player so far and deserved the title, although I am neither his fan nor TH fan. I would be jubilating if msian young pair win tomorrow. They have nothing to lose actually.

MD: Tony/Candra will win in 2 sets
XD: Flandy/Vita will win in 3 sets, I admire Flandy as an excellent doubles player, especially in XD.
WS: XXF will win again
WD: Gao/Huang will win

i m not surpised CY/FH lose to tony/candra but surprised they lose quite easily.they are no 1 pair in the world n lose that match easily.are all the apirs now weaker than the past generation?imagine if park joo bong-kim moon soo,rexy-ricky,yongbo n his partner, soon kit-kim hock still young n play.but honestly for indonesians,i m glad if they can produce great pair like rexy-ricky n candra-tony/sigit again.for KKK-TBH,if keep playing together, they can improve more since they still young

Yes, I have watched most of the recent double players, the malay pairs, chinese pairs, danish one they need a level to improve. every pairs have their own problems, that is why sometimes KKK won , sometimes CAI/FO won, weak attack or poor defense. I don't see anyone more skillful than the old champs, even as good as the late 90's top players.

Me too, great to see Tony and Chandra's commitment despite no longer under PBSI training. All the more reasons to say that true champions are born, not made.
Taufik is in the same mould too, if he were less of a rebel he could have matched Rudy Hartono's achievements. Will definitely root for him against the "mass production machine" Lin Dan.
Interesting to see that China's "mass production plant" cannot build comparable MD, Li Yongbo's achilles heel. Perhaps it's meant to be that the best Chinese MD pair of all time remains Yongbo and Tian Bingyi.:D
That said, all the best to Koo and Tan too. Hope they play well, I was kinda disappointed with Koo's performance in WC XD semis, not that I was expecting them to win (since XD is like a part time, no training provided job for Koo and Wong).

One reason I can think of is that Cai/Fu can only play one tempo, and that is fast, pressing attack. That's why they have limited success against MAS and Indonesian pairs, and even Jonas/Lars. They do better against Koreans (who also play similar style) though.
But it is generally true that since Joo-Bong/Moon-Soo, Sidek brothers and Yongbo/Bingyi era, standards dropped slightly as pairs begun to concentrate on speed and attack, more than technique. Ricky/Rexy, Soon Kit/Kim Hock, Sigit/Chandra and Dong Moon/Tae Kwon were the first to do this. The difference was that all these pairs did not neglect defense, so standards did not improve, but did not suffer much.
Now Cai/Fu and Jung/Lee of Korea had brought the speed portion to a different dimension. Defense is no longer top priority, even more so when 21 pts per rally system is in force.

even though tony/candra may be older than the rest of the players, they are playing at their peak form now just like eriksen.
..And it's especially true, with Tony competing and sparring frequently(i believe 3-4 days/week) nowadays in Denmark, it's not only keeping himself much more in shape physically but also mentally, unlike when he was just coaching in the U.S...It should be interesting how they fare next week though, if they are competing in the China Open.. ;)

that can't be true. sigit/candra and candra/gunawan are all very attacking teams although they do love to defend. that's why the indonesian's are so successful in MD because they can counter attack so effecitively yet can still win a point from the back of the court.
cai/fu also play a style very similar to the indonesian's but they attack much more although they to can defend when need be(it's just not as good as the indo's).
the reason why i think the chinese pair lost so badly today was that they had a mental breakdown. i havent watched the game yet, but i dont think the indo's outskilled the chinese pair but i could totally be wrong.

NO, it's the first time Flandy Limpele is being paired up with Vita Marissa. He was paired with Lita Nurlita in the Korea and HK Open, but the results were not promising.
Vita needs a partner because of the injury to her current partner, Anggun Nugroho. Anyway, their record isn't that good also. With the Asian Games (and next year's Sudirman Cup in mind) looming, Indonesia needs a second XD pair badly. Although Mohd Rizal/Gresya Polii are beginning to show their potential, they are still a pair for the future and not ready to take on the responsibility yet! Therefore, Richard Mainaky decides to pair Vita with Flandy. Again, his bet is successful here....
With Xie Zhongbo/Zhang Yawen still not in top form, Zhang Jun/Gao Ling continue to be in decline, and Lee Hyo Jung still injured, I would say that Nova/Butet are definitely the top contender for the Asian Games gold.

i see, i see..Thanks for clarifying that up.;).
Yah, i remember Flandy paired with another gal recently in a tournament, but forgot which one...On that note, it's quite a surprise that this newly formed tandem went this far..IMO, it will be better because Vita used to play XD before with Nova, i believe, thus she has some experience..And of course, Flandy has been a MD specialist..But if this tandem is a "go", then the one that is left out is Lita.. Although she is probably more of a WD specialists...But who knows, maybe she can be paired up with Anggun later on, once he comes back from his recuperation period.. :)

Cai/Fu DOES NOT play like the Indons. The Indons esp like Candra/Tony/Halim/Sigit are excellent in defense and flat drives which is the weak spot for Cai/Fu. Cai/Fu r typical smashing machine which occasionally hv good shuttle placing, but its still not enough. While the Msian style r more similar to Indons esp since Rexy started coaching our MDs.

what are the replies regarding the live webcast and will there be any live streaming or not??

IIRC, actually no ..... Candra was paired with Sigit while Tony Gunawan with Halim Heryanto, as a back-up for Ricky/Rexy and Antonius/Denny (Olympics Gold and Bronze Medalists in 1996) .......
Candra/Sigit became World Champion in 1997, but during that time, Tony Gunawan/Halim Heryanto was not in their top performance ..... (Tony Gunawan/Halim Heryanto became World Champion later in 2001).
Later Sigit Budiarto got banned from IBF for 2 years due to doping case (I forget which tournament) from 1998 till 2000 (please correct me if I'm wrong), so Candra/Sigit has to be separated ....... Candra then paired with Tony Gunawan ..... and not bad coz they became AE 1998 runner-up, AE 1999 champion and Olympics 2000 Gold.
After Sigit returned, Candra and Sigit paired again and reach AE 2001 final, but then were beaten by Tony Gunawan/Halim Heryanto.
Candra/Sigit later become AE 2003 champ, 2 times runner-up in WC 2003 (in SF they beaten Fu/Cai but lost to Jonas Rasmussen/Lars Paarske in Final) and WC 2005 (lost to Tony Gunawan/Howard Bach) ...... Thomas Cup 2006 Japan was they last event, after that Candra retired from PBSI (his reason to make a way for other pairs), ....... Sigit paired with Limpele became Aviva 2006 champ.
But, Candra paired again with Tony Gunawan later in 2006 ........ actually I hope they could participate in last WC 2006 Madrid.
No, Tony/Candra have already paired up before Sigit ;) , ..n they are best friends...their strong relationship will beat all the players..Love u All...jia you!!!:D :D :D

Is it the WS next???Waiting for the md match...
both pairs are really relax. i think this is a good win for Limpele/Marissa as they haven't been at the top of the game. the weakness of the pair is still Marissa who is not very pro-active in the court. on the other hand, Nova is the worse player between him and Lilyana. i wonder what would happen if Lilyana is partnered with Limpele.
actually, i wonder if Lilyana is partnered with Tony Gunawan, now that would be another Kim/Ra...

This has been the achilles heel of that partnership since they started pairing up end of 2004. Nova is getting old also, so, it's a headache for Richard Mainaky to find a good partner for Lilyana Natsir. Anggun Nugroho and Devin Lahardi are out of the question because they are even worse than Nova! Mohd Rizal has been paired up with Gresya Polii and they are a pair for the future.
One young player who will probably rise up to become Butet's partner is Lingga Lie.

yah, i concur...looking at the tv camera pan of the stadium, it's not packed at all...maybe from the other side, it's much more packed?!?!..i know the current stadium hall is 3x the size of the usual stadium where they hold the previous Japan Open(reason:under construction)..

...I know Flandy has a pretty good sense of doubles play(as i remember from last yr's WC, i saw him sparring with and against all the players during their practice days). I believe i mentioned abt him being given a chance to pair up with a gal for XD a while back, just before he and Eng Hian split up...For some reason he plays "smart" with good placement along with having balanced strokes(forehand and backhand) and can cover pretty good. And now, playing XD, with Vita, i can see a pretty nice growth opportunity for both of them..The only thing that maybe of "concern" is Vita's previous injury & surgery(i believe it was her back??)..  :p

Marissa certainly looks rather touched, i cannot tell if that is tear or sweat on her face though.
Indeed...it has been a long time since Vita Marissa won a title! Incidentally, she won the Japan Open 2004 with Nova Widianto
She was badly injured and required an operation after the Olympics in 2004. That was also the reason why her partnership with Nova was broken up. Nova was then paired up with the very young Lilyana Natsir (18 yo at that time). Who would ever expect that this partnership (despite its weakness) has really blossomed into the world no 1 pair with a gold medal in WC (since Christian Hadinata's time) and several other important titles over the past 3 years.
After her operation, Vita was paired with Devin Lahardi and they won a silver at the Chinese Taipei Open 2005 (losing to Tony Gunawan/Cheng Wen-Hsing). Then, in the middle of this year, she got another new partner in Anggun Nugroho. Their best result was a semi-final in the Malaysia Open 2006, losing to Jonas Rasmussen/Britta Andersen.

Great to see Flandy's performance, another Indonesian golden age doubles player. At 32, he is still very committed to cover the full court. That's the main difference between the 2 pairs. Both girls play just as well as each other, but I suppose the older girl is more composed in the last few points.
Nova's game is still riddled with errors, I wonder why, he should be matured already at 29. No wonder they lost to KKK/WPT in the World Championships. Does no justice to Lilyana Natsir at all. Maybe should consider swapping partners?

yah, i'm waiting for that one as well....well, actually was expecting yesterday's match against Fu/Cai...but oh well, as it turned out, it was a doozer(as Tony/Candra won easily), so didn't really miss it...I hope the MD Final will be much more competitive and entertaining:p;)

i see, i see..Thanks for clarifying that up.;).
Flandy actually was a XD player before he was paired with Eng Hian as a MD palyer. Unfortunately at that time his performance as a XD player was overshadowed by Tri Kusharyanto/Minarti Timur pair. He had 2 -3 different partner sas a XD palyer before they moved him to MD with Eng Hian. So he is now back in his specialty which is XD.

ZN shows some sign of fatigue. If it comes to rubber set, it's difficult for her to win
maybe a tactic from XXF (and probably learned from LD). she was much more relaxed during the 1st game while ZN was doing a lot of work. we will see how ZN do in the 3rd set.

..yah, i can see that now(eventhough i didn't follow his career too closely)...I think all doubles player "should be able" to play either XD or it's specialty(WD or MD)...But it's quite rare for a doubles player to be "very consistent" in both, exceptions are KimDM and RaKM

yes, zn is making more error and less accurate shots after mid points of the 2nd set. As kwun said and what i saw a relaxed xxf on the 1st game, xxf tactci maybe is to wear zn out and finish zn off on the rubber. If ZN can compose and has enough energy left, zn still can win this

Zhang ning could have won the second set or atleast would have been close.. she had two bad line calls
