Seems Lin Dan lost concentration when leading 17:10 in the 2nd set. Like he wanted to give Bao some easy points to make the score look better. But things went out of control.
agreed. but i think he DOES want to give the victory to BCL. After 17:9, he suddenly turns into another person and shows no ambition even in the rubber set.
i am not try to find excuse for LD' lost like some TH fan does. Just curious.

Meanwhile, Kido/Hendra are leading in 19-13 in the first set...they should take it.

This match is weird. I really think may be LD just wanted to let Xiao Bao win.
It does seems weird, it feels as though LD is not fighting as hard as he usually does. But I certainly hopes that he didn't let Bao win on purpose, I mean, this guy needs all the credit he should get for beating LD.

What a Good friendship!
You helped me (Lin) for the World Championship, now I help you (Bao) in China Open.
Next time we meet again, my (Lin) turn to win.
good catch. it really looks like that by numerous unforced errors after 17:9, and LD stay calm whithout struggle. That's not him.
Anyway, we know that they are friends. The victory will do good to BCL and the lost is no harm to LD.

is badminton not popular anymore in china? At least they are ending coverage for a real sport. As much as I would rather see badminton, I stop short of begrudging gymnastics fans their opportunity. It is the world championships, is it not? And does China not have some contenders in that sport, at least? Guangdong Sports dropping a sport that China is currently dominating (right now in Guangdong, no less!) in favour of a sport at which China is hopeless (ie. showing soccer on semi-finals day) is a far more heinous broadcasting crime.
Too bad they didn't show on TV the only matches I would have enjoyed: the men's doubles. Instead they showed China vs. China men's singles...again! And Yang/Zhang winning...again! Yawn.

Tomorrow's MD final would be interesting ah. In fact I was surprised that Alven/Luluk fought so well. They have been beaten by Cai/Fu so many times since the formation of the Cai/Fu pair. Also from their WC performance I had thought they had got some Cai/Fu phobia or something.

Overall, they played better today...even though Luluk is once again the weak-link. Christian Hadinata had also pointed out to the INA pairs that they need to play strategically in beating Fu/Cai. Relying on speed will be useless...so...the more emphasis on placements. The INA pair was quite successful in the first set..but...Luluk once again underperformed in the second set.
Kido/Hendra will not be thrashed so easily, esp since Kido was playing well today (according to a friend who watched the match live in GZ).
With Kido playing at the back and Hendra guarding the net, it should be an interesting match against Fu and Cai in the other side of the court.

Alven/Luluk has been underdogs when facing Cai/Fu ever since Cai/Fu were formed back in 2002/03 I think. They cannot match Cai/Fu's speed. Kido and Setiawan, I think they beated Cai/Fu back in 2004? Have the two pair ever met after that?
Anyway, K/S can match Cai/Fu's speed, have less power but better placements.

Will China have a diffcult time choosing which 2 XD team to play in the Asia Games? Xie Zhangbo/Zha Yawen will probably get selected, but Zhang Jun/ Gao Ling seem to be going down. Will China still want them to play in it because they have the experience? Or will they want to go with one of the yonger doubles pair (eg. ZhaoTingTing/Xu Chen, Zheng Bo/Yu Yang, etc) who are perfectly capable of beating Zhang/Gao?

Oh. I think I see something.
In the official spreadsheet Results
http://www.gzba.org/china_open2006/gfxx/mxd10-21-result.xls,
it lists that Zhang/Gao has advanced.
However, if you look at the score, it says they won by 17-21, 19-21. The 21's are pointing towards Zhao/Xu, it's probably a mistake on the spreadsheet. We'll just wait and confirm

This shows on WS side, CHN surely has a lot of talents, but none of the young guns can surely beating up the verterans yet. Lacking of expereince, and the result of internal battle (e.g. Wang Yihan eliminated XXF) makes the CHN open WS event NOT an all CHN internal practice session. ;)
Agree,
The Chinese WS youngster just started compete full time this year. (Minimal 10 tournaments in a year)
They are Lu Lan, Zhu Lin and Jiang Yan Jiao. (Wang Lin, Chen Li, Wang Yi Han only enter 5-8 tournaments this year)
From those 3 younster, the most advanced had to be Zhu Lin. She already won 2 titles and one runner up this year. Too bad he had to retired at QF stage yesterday.
From those 3, the weakest must be Jiang Yian Jiao. Her best achievement is only SF. Lu Lan already won 1 title this year and 2 runner up.
But it a bit complicated that LYB prefer JYJ than Lu Lan and Zhu Lin. JYJ was Chinese thrid singles in Uber Cup and also China WS third player in WC2006, although her anking and achievement is lower than Zhu Lin and Lu Lan.
I wonder;)
hcpoirot
10-21-2006, 12:52 PM
But only 1 year, they are already that good. After 3-4 years, China will at least had one or two players as skillful as ZN or XXF. Scary thought indeed. :D

For LD loss, beside of BCL amazing comeback in second set, LD is probably too tired.
In near one month he play 3 events, about 15-14 matches, win 2 titles and reach CO SF. He simply didn't had extra energy that he usually had. Even XXF cannot or ZN can win 3 titles in one month.
And of course the competition in MS is so tight specially if LD playing his own teammates.
Maybe if LD wanted to win all time, he should try to arrange his tournaments. No need to enter lots of events but try to win all the events he participated. Just like Roger Federer did in tennis. But even Roger Federer had lost this year.
