I'll be going out to dinner with family on Thursday and heading to badminton after dinner. Is it ok to leave my racquet bag in the car trunk for 2 hours in the cold? Would that cause problems with the racquets? Or do I have to bring the racquets into the restaurant? I really don't want bring the racquets into the restaurant. :) Thanks in advance. :)

Almost forgot, temperatures will be below freezing as I am in Toronto. :)

Definitely bring it into the restaurant. You run the risk of having them stolen from the car (mine was stolen from my car's trunk). Besides, the change is temperature is extreme enough.

would the change in temp make that much of a difference...hmmmz...must be pretty cold, i would tend to leave them in trunk of car but it isnt as cold here as it is in toronto.
yo... creative... just leave them... they are just racquets...
dont worry~ ... also you'll look pretty stupid bringing in your racquets!

damn right :-)
First and Foremost, woudl u play after a heavy Dinner? as to leaving it in th car, I have not seen ICE in my life apart from the Freezer ice or dry ice!
I dunno abt effects of coldness on rackets! Prob they willmake it brittle! I think U shoudl take it! If someone can Bring Their laptops then why can u take Ur Bag in!
If ur Thermal Bag is a Good one then just leave it in the car! I am sure nothing will happen!
Either way have a Nice dinner!
Uhm, if you have ever lived in Canada, then you'd know how cold it gets. Today I woke up after a series of warm days to finally hear, "Wind chill at -30 C". I was freaking out and was scambling to find my parka to replace my fleece that I have come accustomed to until today.
Take your racquets inside. You will wreck your strings, if not, make them brittle. I've broken racquets after they were left out in the car during a cold night last year. You can really break your racquets. Also these racquets were made in Asia, where -30 C is unheard of.

bring them in
if you leave them in the car you'll have to wait like an hour to room temperature at the gym before you can play so the racquets to crack or break. same for strings. on e morning i was waiting for city bus and was outside for 10 minutes and my strings cracked on the outside of the frame where they are bent..
i live in quebec and god it's cold!

Well...... this year's winter is nothing to complain about. We had almost no snow. 3 millimeters maybe .. of snow on xmas day:P and its not that that cold. Well today there was some snow. Dunno, maybe you should bring them in to be on the safe side.. or keep one of those microwavable hot sack things that stay warm for hours and put them in your bag :P hehe

Thanks for the replys everybody. :) Yes, I am a badminton fanatic. :) Might look stupid bringing the racquets into the restaurant. :) I do have to consider the racquets as they are quite expensive. Eating a big dinner won't stop me from playing badminton. :) I am a badminton fanatic. ;) I'll give myself thirty minutes before I play. Thanks for the replys everyone. :) Keep smashing. :)
We will!!! I believe that I speak for everyone, do I not??
For goodness sake, they are rackets, not babies! Just leave them in the car. Make sure u leave them in the trunk, that way if they get nicked you can say thank you and claim a nice set of new ones from the insurance policy. The temperature change wount make a blind bit of difference to the rackets, and then you wont look stupid when you carry them into the restaurant. I cant believe some people contemplate these questions!

I'll have my Yonex racquet bag to carry the four of them with me. :) Not just the racquets themselves. They maybe just racquets but I don't want to be surprised with cracked racquets when I start playing with them.

It was definately a very serious question worth considering for a badminton fanatic!!
Take no chances.
:o)
Mark,
For goodness sake, either you don't know anything about sub-zero conditions, or you don't know anything about badminton racquets. I suggest you take your racquet out in sub-zero temperature for 30 mins, then go inside and execute a jump smash and see what happens... Be sure to wear protective glasses.

Well, I did it and I'm sure I will. Never had problems. What else thermal bags are for? :)

But I didn't mean I PLAYED OUTDOOR when twas -30. :)))
P.S. Ogh! I almost forgot, once (and only once!) I played outdoor when it was -5. I've got a number of openair courts near the place where I live. I know a number of people who still play every weekend even now - in winter and played when it was about - 20. But their equipment let them do it. :)
Using a badmiinton racquet in -20 C should be OK, as long as you let it cool down before using it...

cool down? from -20 to even colder? ;-)
The thermal bag should keep it sufficiently safe provided there is no moisture in the racquet. Like any freezing action, it is not the material but the moisture that may be trapped in the racquet that will cause the damage. Minute moisture can be trapped easily whenever you move from a cold to warm environment.
Let the racquet warm up in the car with you as you are driving from the restaurant to the gym, this should reduce the temperature shock when you first use the racquet.
If you do bring it into the restaurant with you, it should be at least dressed as well as the owner. So if it is a suit and tie dinner, well, you will have to make sure your racquets are appropriately attired. :-)
Okay, what's next??? Shall we ask if it is a good idea to bring racquets into a stinky washroom; thus, the carbon graphite is exposed to the raw ammonia compounds in the air!!!??? :-D Silly me . . .

is it okay if i bike to badminton? in the winter or in the cold between like -20 to like +10 degrees celcius? will it hurt the rackets or strings? will be approximately outside for 20 minutes. also will those yonex thermo carrying cases help? or anything can help them keep warm

Question. Why would you even bike in that kind of weather? If you wanna keep them, throw in a few bottles of hot water. Or get one of those gel things where you heat up and they stay warm for a while and stick it in the bag. Overall, I would suggest taking the bus or drive if you can.

alas that's the life in canada.... below 20 C in winter most the time.
if kept that that temp it should be okay. and if you were out there and go into building, give time for the raquet to warm up in the room temperature. if not the molecules in raquet and string will have less energy thus being more brittle. should be fine once it warms upto room temp

-20C and 20 minutes outdoor is too cold for rackets. They will become brittle and fragile.

humm good question i was just thinking of that, since i live in northern ontario winter is coming fast, i have a 9624 bag, does that have termo whatever stuff to keep the bag warm?

winter means snowy and icy road surface, if ur bike slip and u fall and land on your backpack, high risk of breaking them. If u put it in a hardcase, then it would be ok

1) For your racquet sake
2) For your health sake
3) For your bike sake
4) For God sake
Ask someone to drie you to practice. Or take a bus if that is not an option.

Negative Ghost Rider. No racket bag has real "thermo" protection. Some have moderate protection at best. In the Canadian winter, you can forget it. :p

Forget the rackets, how about the person? You can be seriously injured!

I find it that even if I drive...the walk from the car to the building already makes my racquets quite cold. That's only like 15-20 seconds outside :/

i bus in the cold alberta winter to and from school. temperatures can reach a stiffling and searing minus 40*C on a regular basis. so that means standing out at bus stops for long periods of time...
just wrap your racquets and especially your strings with cotton shirts!
put them inside full racquet covers before putting them into your bag.
theres lots of ways to help.
try not to bike to practice if its cold and slippery out.
its totally do-able, i knwo someoen that bikes year round, but its just safer to avoid it if possible.
bus it!

lol thanks for the help hahah wt if i just bike in fall weather like 7 degrees celcius should be okay rite. and i live inside a subdivision with no buses....and the closest bus stop is at the mall which is just as far as the gym. lol so walking to the mall = 20 minutes in the cold, or bike to the gym 20 minutes in the cold. actually i dont think bikign would take 20 minutes i think itd be more like max ten minutes. its like 2 or 3 blocks away.

I vote for evolution-fung to be declared badminton nut no.1. he is more worried about his racquets and getting to badminton practice than his own health !!! ehehehhehe :P .... and he has not watched top gun because i believe he has been busy playing badminton ekekekekke

Well, winters coming, and in Canada, i'm sure you all know that it is FREEZING. And moving around with your racquets in -40 degrees is not healthy for them. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to safely transport racquets for excess of 20-30 mins outside in freezing weather. Its really hard to keep your racquets safe when moving around, mainly for us students :p.
