Some interesting matches for today:

MEN'S SINGLES ROUND OF 32
Sairul Amar Ayob vs Tommy Sugiarto -- the Malaysian top seed has the experience and edge. I will be surprised if Tommy can beat him

Kaspar Oedum vs Wu Yunyong

Richard Vaughn vs Saman Ismail

Ronald Susilo vs Chen Long

Lee Tsuen Tseng vs Ville Lang

Sagar Chopda vs Kendrick Lee Yen Hui

MEN'S DOUBLES ROUND OF 16
Rian Sukmawan/Eng Hian vs Brice Leverdez/Mathieu Lo Ying Ping -- another easy match for Rian/Eng Hian!

Matthias Boe/Joachim Ficher Nielsen vs Matthew Hughes/Martyn Lewis

Hendri Kurniawan Saputra/Hendra Wijaya vs Hendra A. Gunawan/Joko Riyadi (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- a huge match for Hendra/Joko! If they can win this one, they have a chance to go all the way!

Mike Beres/William Milroy vs Roman Spitko/Michael Fuchs

WOMEN'S SINGLES ROUND OF 16
Xu Huaiwen vs Adrianti Firdasari -- it's a miracle if Firda can beat the top seed.

Lin Sen vs Maria Kristin Yulianti -- a tricky match against an unknown Chinese player. I hope Maria can win and progress to the quarter-final!

WOMEN'S DOUBLES ROUND OF 16
Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nur Sugianti vs Li Xian/Wang Linling --ditto for Rani/Endang...a tricky match as always against Chinese opponents. Again, I hope they can win!

Jiang Yanmei/Li Yujia vs Shruti S. Kurian/Jwala P. Gutta -- with the absence of top pairs, Jiang/Li is the clear favorite to take the title!

MIXED DOUBLES ROUND OF 16
Robert Mateusiak/Nadiezda Kostiuczyk vs Hendra Wijaya/Jiang Yanmei -- the Singaporean pair could surprise us!

Devin Lahardi/Yunita Tetty vs Jorrit De Ruiter/Ilse Vaessen -- an easier task for Devin/Yunita, compared to yesterday's. They should progress at least to the semi-final!

Shi Yang/Chen Zhuo vs Hendri Kurniawan Saputra/Li Yujia -- shouldn't be a problem for the seeded Singaporean pair.

Mike Beres/Valerie Loker vs Daniel Shirley/Joanna Quay Swee Ling -- the Kiwi/Malaysian pair has been doing pretty well lately. They are a dark-horse for this tournament.

Sairul takes the second set 21-17. Tommy was 19-12 down and staged a late fightback, but, it was too late. Let's see if his stamina can last 3 sets. It will be a tremendous achievement if he can win this one

I am watching the live-streaming. Tommy looks pretty good with some nice attacking play. Definitely better when I watched him play at the Singapore Satelitte. This bodes well.

He has a good chance. Nevertheless, it has been a good tournament for him so far! He will play again later tonight in the Round of 16 with a very good chance of entering his first quarter-final or even semi-final in a grand prix event.

So far, he has lost to Lee Hyun Il, Chen Yu, and Peter Gade in his 3 GP tournaments (Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia Opens).

Devin Lahardi/Yunita Tetty are safely through to the quarter-final after an easy 21-9, 21-9 win over Jorrit De Ruiter/Ilse Vaessen. Their possible opponent tomorrow is also unlikely to pose any problems  The next real test will possibly be against the top seed Robert Mateusiak/Nadiezda Kostiuczyk.

interesting to watch, will be tough match
Holvy De Pauw is former Pelatnas player and INA National Junior winner. He is younger brother of Engeline De Pauw.
Mental problem has made him left from Pelatnas. In one junior tournament, he was cramp in 3rd set against Simon. Another accident is retired against club players and helped by his farther to left the court.

I have heard of him. But, I think Tommy is on form. He seems to have improved from the last time I saw him playing in the Singapore Satelitte. At that time, he was a set up and had a chance to win, but, he let that chance slip and ended up losing his stamina and the match in rubber-sets.

It was reported in either Bola or Jawapos that he was the most hardworking player in the physical training regime, so, that could have helped him if he's to play 3 sets like this afternoon. He was fast and furious against Sairul, making lots of initiatives to come to the net and attact the more experienced Malaysian.

He should win tonight and entertain possibly Kaspar Oedum in the quarter-final. Let's keep our fingers crossed

Meanwhile, Adrianti Firdasari has lost to the top seed Xu Huaiwen (expectedly) in 2 straight sets: 15-21, 13-21. I really hope the younger players like Pia, Aprillia, and now Sylvinna can improve faster and rise up the ranks. I don't think Firda, Nana or Maria can make it

Good progress from Maria Kristin Yulianti. She had a good draw and didn't waste this opportunity to advance to the quarter-final after beating an unknown Chinese player Lin Sen 21-19, 21-12.

The match of the round in the MD between Hendri Kurniawan Saputra/Hendra Wijaya and Hendra A. Gunawan/Joko Riyadi turns out to be a real thriller. Hendri/Hendra took the initiative in the first set and won it easily 21-13. The second set was a close affair from the start with serves changing hands and the lead never crossed beyond 2 points. Hendri/Hendra was leading 17-15 in the closing stage, but Hendra/Joko levelled it and managed to win it 21-18 in the second set! It's now rubber-set!

YES...Hendra A. Gunawan/Joko Riyadi have beaten the Singaporean brothers in 3 sets 13-21, 21-18, 21-14. It was their turn to take the initiative in the rubber set and they were ahead 6-1 very quickly. It was 11-6 at the interval. They extended the lead to 18-11 and eventually sealed the match 21-14.

Hendra/Joko will now face Mike Beres/William Milroy who have upsetted the second seed Roman Spitko/Michael Fuchs.

In the other MD match, Rian Sukmawan/Eng Hian continued their progress towards their second title after beating their French opponent in straight sets 21-16, 21-15. They will now face Kristof Hopp/Ingo Kindervater.

So far so good for Team Pelatnas in the Bitburger Open. In the WD, Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nur Sugianti have beaten Li Xian/Wang Linling 21-7, 21-19. They will now face the top seed Kamila Augustyn/Nadiezda Kostiuczyk in the quarter-final. A tough match indeed

It was a very tough and long match between Tommy Sugiarto and Holvy De Pauw, lasting close to an hour. Tommy was in control of the first set until the score was 17-15. Suddenly, Holvy won 6 points in a row and took the set 21-17  In the second set, Tommy continued to be in control from the start and managed to force a rubber by winning the second set 21-16. The score was quite tight in the beginning of the rubber set until it was 6-6. Yet again, Holvy nudged ahead 15-6! It was too late for Tommy to come back, and the final score was 21-13 to Holvy De Pauw.

It's a good experience for Tommy to have beaten the no 1 seed and played 2 rubber games in the space of a few hrs. If he can work more on his concentration and stamina, he should be in a good shape!

Too bad Tommy did not win. But what the hey, he won over Sairul Ayob from Malaysia. This Holvy dud is former Indonesian player, right? So nothing to be ashamed of. He is still 18 years old and there is a lot of room to improve. If he really is hardworking, I think he has a big chance to become one of Indonesian top MS.

As for Hendra A.G./Joko, congrats. Looks like they are well on their way to replace Luluk/Alven. Keep the medals coming!

Also thank's to BadMania who has taken all the trouble to provide us with the results.

...hehe, i don't know if it's a typo or not, but i think 'dud'(instead of dude??) is not an incorrect word either..hehe:rolleyes: :p ;) :D ;)

BTW, yah, badMania has, literally, single-handedly provided us with all these infos...perhaps he's one of a few people who actually followed this event intently(well, basically most if not all of the ones posting in this tourney are Indonesians)??.. :p ;):D

As I said in the other thread, I am more interested in this event rather than the so-called World Cup because there are indeed many Indonesian players (albeit the backup pairs) competing in the European events. One title in these 2* events is possibly more important than a title in the exhibition tournament like World Cup  Remember that you have to start from small....

I am especially interested in following Hendra A. Gunawan/Joko Riyadi's progress in these 3 events because they are the ones who is going to step up a level and will compete in the so-called Super Series next year, along Kido/Hendra and Luluk/Alvent. I was basically biting my finger-nails when they played against Hendri/Hendra yesterday night :D
