View Full Version : Denmark Open 2006: Day 3 (02/11)
badMania 11-01-2006, 08:36 PM 72 matches will be played today, with 2 rounds in WS and XD. Here's the pick of today's matches
MEN'S SINGLES ROUND OF 16
Peter Gade vs Wong Choong Hann (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- a huge match for the recently recovered Malaysian. He had done well to beat Kaldau yesterday. However, I think Peter is still too strong for him.
Joachim Persson vs Kendrick Lee Yen Hui -- Kendrick has been displaying some good form lately, beating Bjorn Joppien twice. I think he has a good chance to enter the quarter-final.
Przemyslaw Wacha vs Kenneth Jonassen -- the Danes to win.
Mohd Roslin Hashim vs Lee Tsuen-Tseng -- so far so good for the older Hashim brother. He should win in the battle of the Malaysians.
Chetan Anand vs Chen Hong -- a tricky match for the Chinese, but, nothing less than a title here will be satisfactory for him.
MEN'S DOUBLES ROUND OF 16
Hendri Kurniawan Saputra/Hendra Wijaya vs Mathias Boe/Joachim Fischer Nielsen -- I put my money on the Singaporean brothers.
Rian Sukmawan/Eng Hian vs Shen Ye/He Hanbin (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- a tough match for Rian/Eng Hian and I hope they will prevail.
Chris Langridge/David Lindley vs Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari/Lin Woon Fui -- technically, shouldn't be a problem for the now Malaysian no 1 pair. However, the English pair has troubled Luluk/Alvent before.
WOMEN'S SINGLES ROUND OF 32
Maria Kristin Yulianti vs Huang Chia-Chi -- Maria is on a roll and I hope she continues her good form.
Yao Jie vs Adrianti Firdasari (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- a bad draw for Firda yet again. It will be a miracle if she can beat Yao.
Ella Karachova vs Wang Lin -- I am rooting for Wang Lin in this tournament :D
WOMEN'S DOUBLES ROUND OF 16
Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nur Sugianti vs Ekaterina Ananina/Anastasia Russkikh -- Rani/Endang should win!
Natalie Munt/Joanne Nicholas vs Pan Pan/Tian Qing
Jwalla Gutta/Shruti Kurien vs Jo Novita/Gresya Polii (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- a tough match in store for Jo/Gresya. But, they do have an edge.
MIXED DOUBLES ROUND OF 32
Devin Lahardi/Yunita Tetty vs Robin Middleton/Liza Parker -- should be a breeze for the INA pair.
Jurgen Wouters/Paulien Van Dooremalen vs Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa -- ditto for Flandy/Vita.
Daniel Shirley/Joanna Quay Swee Ling vs Kristof Hopp/Birgit Overzier
Lars Paaske/Helle Nielsen vs Robert Blair/Jenny Wallwork
Hendri Kurniawan Saputra/Li Yujia vs Nathan Robertson/Gail Emms (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- the world champion's first match since Madrid and the Singaporean pair is unlucky to draw them.

cao ci dan 11-01-2006, 10:36 PM who will Chen Yu meet today??
thankz!agree with all your predictions!!
"Joachim Persson vs Kendrick Lee Yen Hui -- Kendrick has been displaying some good form lately, beating Bjorn Joppien twice. I think he has a good chance to enter the quarter-final."
Yes I'm quite surprised but I was rather disappointed that Ronald Susilo lost to Saman in R1! Hope Kendrick will keep the Singapore flag flying.
jiayou 11-01-2006, 10:57 PM how many hours to go when its live?
playing time should be in afternoon *GMT + 1
it depends on where you are now
jiayou 11-01-2006, 10:59 PM "Joachim Persson vs Kendrick Lee Yen Hui -- Kendrick has been displaying some good form lately, beating Bjorn Joppien twice. I think he has a good chance to enter the quarter-final."

Loh.... but I think Person would win 60&-40%, but of course I hope Kendrick can kick ass arrr :D
Loh.... but I think Person would win 60&-40%, but of course I hope Kendrick can kick ass arrr :D
Yes I think Persson is no mean player (Is he the Dane who beat KBH at 3rd singles during the Thomas Cup?). But Kendrick has nothing to lose and so long as he believes in himself that he could defeat Persson as he has also beaten KBH before, and concentrates on the process taking each point at a time, he should do well. ;)
phaarix 11-01-2006, 11:14 PM who will Chen Yu meet today??
thankz!agree with all your predictions!!
I think he plays Richard Vaughan next.
kokcheng 11-01-2006, 11:59 PM There's nothing exceptional in Persson's game.KBH lost to him because of nerves.Kendrick, should be able to defeat him.
virusvoodoo 11-02-2006, 12:34 AM There's nothing exceptional in Persson's game.KBH lost to him because of nerves.Kendrick, should be able to defeat him.
Well what's exceptional about KBH's game? I don't think he's any better than Perrson or Kendrick as these three guys are at about the same level with Kendrick having a bit more experience than the other two.
wynn000 11-02-2006, 12:38 AM KBH got play Denmark Open ??
Budakkiwi 11-02-2006, 12:48 AM No KBH is not playing =)
Well what's exceptional about KBH's game? I don't think he's any better than Perrson or Kendrick as these three guys are at about the same level with Kendrick having a bit more experience than the other two.
I hope Kendrick has learned not to give up too easily as he was predisposed to in many previous outings when he faced a strong player. Again I'm harping on his mental aspects. I was hoping that he could give Ronald Susilo a better fight than the scores revealed during the finals of the recent Luxemborg Open, but then Kendrick seemed to just give in if the score of the second game was any indication.
Granted that Ronald knows a great deal about his game, his strengths and weaknesses, Kendrick himself should play to his strengths and change the setting and the score to his advantage. The ability to do this on the spot is a mark of a better player and differentiates him from other less creative and mentally immobile opponent.
badMania 11-02-2006, 03:01 AM Devin Lahardi/Yunita Tetty have won their first match, beating Robin Middleton/Liza Parker 21-17, 21-13. Next, they will meet the young Chinese pair Zhang Wei/Zhao Yunlei for a place in the QF later tonight.
cao ci dan 11-02-2006, 03:33 AM I think he plays Richard Vaughan next.
thankz!:D should be easy for him!!:)
badMania 11-02-2006, 03:35 AM The Japan Open champion Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa also won easily 21-12, 21-12 over Jurgen Wouters/Paulien Van Dooremalen. They are expected to play He Hanbin/Tian Qing later tonight.
They have also been handed a good draw for next week's Dutch Open, where it's expected that they will get their second title.
cyipee 11-02-2006, 03:59 AM hope WCH will have a good performance against PG although he had just recovered, he must find back the confidence since 5 months haven't participate any tournaments.
WCH always play his heart out. He give 150% in everygame.
nwy5633 11-02-2006, 04:05 AM i think if you would hope WCH to win the match...
it's almost impossible as he juz return from a long break...
it's much better if we hope WCH will get 1 set or having the score up to 16+
cyipee 11-02-2006, 04:13 AM agree with you, but really happy to saw him back, let him enjoys the games.
junky 11-02-2006, 04:14 AM is there any live coverage for Astro??
cyipee 11-02-2006, 04:17 AM i think maybe reach semi-final just have live telecast for Astro or maybe don't have coverage at all.

xbro88 11-02-2006, 06:23 AM "Joachim Persson vs Kendrick Lee Yen Hui -- Kendrick has been displaying some good form lately, beating Bjorn Joppien twice. I think he has a good chance to enter the quarter-final."
Yes I'm quite surprised but I was rather disappointed that Ronald Susilo lost to Saman in R1! Hope Kendrick will keep the Singapore flag flying.
Susilo lost because he pulled his hamstrings luckily for him it was only a minor injury and he should recover in a few days:)
Dreamzz 11-02-2006, 06:36 AM What next?.... Dang, this tourney is not really biting
it won't start to get really interesting until the tomorrow at least.
the best game on offer tonight has to be WCH vs PG.
it's really because of the absence of the major CHN/KOR/INA/MAS players ...

Thankfully, in WD, the no 2 seed Jo Novita/Gresya Polii have beaten Jwalla Gutta/Shruti Kurien 21-18, 21-14 and will meet Pan Pan/Tian Qing in the QF tomorrow. It's gonna be a tough match as always against the Chinese pairs.

Hey, this is Denmark Open not Bitburger Open.
badMania 11-02-2006, 10:11 AM Maria Kristin lost the first set to Jiang Yanjiao 20-22. I am actually quite impressed by her performance so far. So much better than Nana!!
It has been a tiring day for her so far, playing again after just 3 hrs of rest. I don't think Maria can beat Jiang...but...who knows?
I also don't know why she is not being sent to the Asian Games. Instead, Pia Zebadiah will be the 3rd singles. Her results in Bitburger and Denmark Open far oushine the other 2 supposedly better players.
elwin81 11-02-2006, 10:13 AM Roslin and LTS is very tight in the rubber set 16-16
Yao Jie just manage to take the 1st set 21-19
Maria looking good at the 1st half of 2nd set.
elwin81 11-02-2006, 10:16 AM LTS won against Roslin.
Wonder how he can beat CH tomorrow after a tiring match.
Slankblue 11-02-2006, 10:17 AM Hey, this is Denmark Open not Bitburger Open.
Oops sorry i didn't read the title of this thread correctly, guess i need a glasses huh..:p
badMania 11-02-2006, 10:24 AM Amazing...Maria Kristin takes the second set 21-15
Can she last the distance?
m_poppema 11-02-2006, 10:26 AM Przemyslaw Wacha....oooh
I wanted him to win, he's got such a nice personality
and seeing him play is a pleasure to the eye of any badmintonfan.

Maria has got unfair decision for a long time (I ever ask you in SIN Satellite how was Maria condition, looked has mental's problem or not). She was accused as UC Qualifying failed reason so weren' sent in any tournament then. Winning in 2 satellite and coach changing made her sent in European tournament.
Some rumour around Pelatnas is much family's player (parent, boy friend) has influenced to Hendrawan's view on his players. Maria's familes are live in Tuban (East Java), too far from Cipayung different with Firda & Fransisca. The Opposite story on Silvi Antarini, her parent given bad report to Pelatnas.
Both Hendrawan or Joko are same level as coach. They were good as player but not capable as coach.
elwin81 11-02-2006, 10:38 AM Przemyslaw Wacha....oooh
I wanted him to win, he's got such a nice personality

tell us more about Wacha from your point of view. I never see him play before but I am sure he is good looking at the scores against KJ.
badMania 11-02-2006, 10:38 AM Maria Kristin has lost as expected to Jiang Yanjiao in rubber sets 20-22, 21-15, 10-21. I think she has run out of stamina after 5 long sets. Anyway, a very positive performance by her.
badMania 11-02-2006, 10:40 AM Maria has got unfair decision for a long time (I ever ask you in SIN Satellite how was Maria condition, looked has mental's problem or not). She was accused as UC Qualifying failed reason so weren' sent in any tournament then. Winning in 2 satellite and coach changing made her sent in European tournament.
When I was watching her at the SIN Satellite, she looked okay. Definitely not stressed by the possibility of demotion from Pelatnas.
Sandy 11-02-2006, 10:42 AM Maria lost to Jiang Yan Jiao 20-22 21-15 11-21
win 19-21 21-17 21-16 over Huang Chia Chi

badMania 11-02-2006, 10:54 AM Devin Lahardi/Yunita Tetty have lost tamely to Zhang Wei/Zhao Yunlei 19-21, 11-21.

nugroho 11-02-2006, 11:52 AM so BAdmania... indonesia has only 2 pairs to play tomorrow in quarter final?
xt6666 11-02-2006, 12:16 PM Peter Gade took the first game 21-17
elwin81 11-02-2006, 12:23 PM anyone know who is coaching WCH in this tournament?
hcpoirot 11-02-2006, 12:25 PM So far Indonesia have:
1 WD pair in QF
1 XD pair in QF.
And about Maria Kristin who been left out although she played much better than Firdasari and Fransisca.
Its not secret anymore that PBSI loved (LOVED) to use golden child program.
As long as you deliver good results.
Example: Taufik H who can do pretty much all he liked in Pelatnas cause we only had 1 MS now that can compete with other top MS players around the world.
So not to worry, if Maria show more prospect than Fransisca and Firda, she will be sent more and more important tournament next time.
But if PBSI left out her again, Maria probably shoul consider to play for other country.
Example: Look at Ronald Susilo who shine after he play for Singapore or Agus Hariyanto after play for HK. In Indonesia at that time, they only B or C team in PBSI.
hcpoirot 11-02-2006, 12:27 PM Maria lost to Jiang Yan Jiao 20-22 21-15 11-21
win 19-21 21-17 21-16 over Huang Chia Chi
lost 20-22 21-15 11-21 to Jiang Yan Jiao
playing 2 matches in a day made badminton looke a bit unfair aspecially when one player played tougher in earliaer round
Its fair cause all the WS had also to play twice in one day.
But if the player had tough opponents to beat blame it on her ranking and her unlucky draw.
And of course this is 5 star events, a player not only had to had good skill but excellent stamina as well.
hcpoirot 11-02-2006, 12:28 PM Chen Yu already moved to QF and probably will meet Peter in SF.
Menawhile Peter already leading 13-9 in second set against WCH.
Baderz_Jas 11-02-2006, 12:29 PM Maria lost to Jiang Yan Jiao 20-22 21-15 11-21

Baderz_Jas 11-02-2006, 12:33 PM Chen Yu already moved to QF and probably will meet Peter in SF.
Menawhile Peter already leading 13-9 in second set against WCH.

hcpoirot 11-02-2006, 12:38 PM @Baders,

Plus maybe Rani/Endang if they win their match later on
hcpoirot 11-02-2006, 01:43 PM Blair/Clark lost first set 16-21 to Wales pair. What???
After sensational achievement in WC2006, this English pair results in other events so far were mediocre.
But its the toughest part for every players or pairs: to mantain their consistency play.
Only a few players and pairs can do that this year mantaining their level of play.

haifeng4ever 11-02-2006, 09:29 PM support Lin Woon Fui/Fairuz
badMania 11-02-2006, 09:55 PM Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nur Sugianti have also progressed to the QF after beating Ekatarina Ananina/Anastasia Russkikh 23-21, 21-15. They will meet Lena Frier-Kristensen/Kamilla Rytter-Juhl in the QF.
badMania 11-02-2006, 10:44 PM An excuse given by Hendrawan:
"Skuad Asian Games sudah ditetapkan dan tidak akan ada perubahan," tandas Hendrawan. Penampilan Fransisca dan Adriyanti, menurutnya, sebenarnya tidak kalah dari Maria. Mereka kalah karena lawan yang dihadapi lebih berat.
It's clear that he favors Firda and Nana compared to Maria. Looking at the draw for next week Dutch Open, it's likely that Maria will be also the one who will progress further. She will yet again meet Rachel Van Cutsen (whom she had beaten this week) in the first round and then the winner between Anna Rice and Perrine Lebuhanic in the second round. I put my money on Maria to enter the quarter-final and another rendevous with Xu Huaiwen.
Nana will play a qualifier again in the first round, then either Huang Chia-Chi or Ella Karachkova in the second round. Firda will play Luiz Tania in the first round, then either Anu Nieminen or Pi Hongyan in the second round.
