View Full Version : Denmark Open 2006: QUARTER-FINALS (03/11)

It must be a very quiet day.

Gade - Palyama (4:0 Palyama has never beat Gade)
Chen 1 - Persson (Persson never won, with losing records)
Chen 2 - Lee ( 5:0 recently, Lee has never won either)

So it will be all one-side match. The only resistance could be from Ayob, who has a 1:2 record against Jonassen. and plus now it's in Denmark, and Jonassen is so eager and energized...

I'd better skip today and wait for the semi-finals

Semi:

Gade - Chen 1
Both players are fast and powerful, but Chen 1 lacks tactics

Chen 2 - Jonassen

by just looking at their player's IBF id number, we will know Jonassen (IBF id 4762) is probably the oldest veteran. Gade is the number 6926, while Chen Hong is the number 9689, Taufik 10337, Lin Dan 50906, Chen Yu 50931... Jonassen beat Chen when he just turned pro. When Chen Hong was dominant during 2002-2003, he beat Jonassen many times. But recently, Jonassen did better against Chen when he becomes older, he has beat Chen twice this year even though Chen still holds the winning records. Chen Hong seemed lost ground early this year, but now, seems regroup and regain his form.

MEN'S SINGLES
Peter Gade vs Dicky Palyama -- should be no problem for Peter.

Chen Yu vs Joachim Persson -- ditto for Chen.

Sairul Amar Ayob vs Kenneth Jonassen -- Kenneth was pushed to 3 sets and won in deuce. Sairul could trouble him today.

Lee Tsuen Tseng vs Chen Hong (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- the Chinese player to win.

MEN'S DOUBLES
Jens Eriksen/Martin Lundgaard Hansen vs Ashley Brehaut/Aji Basuki Sindoro -- the absence of top pairs make it quite easy for Eriksen/Hansen. They should progress to the final.

Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen vs Xu Chen/Zhang Wei -- the young Chinese pair impressed when they took a set from Fu/Cai last week. But, they are up against the experience Paaske/Rasmussen.

Mathias Boe/Joachim Fischer-Nielsen vs Anthony Clark/Robert Blair -- the WC silver-medallist has an edge.

Shen Ye/He Hanbin vs Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari/Lin Woon Fui (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- the Malaysian pair struggled in beating the English pair. They will face a tough opponent today, but, they should beat the Chinese.

WOMEN'S SINGLES
Xu Huaiwen vs Jiang Yanjiao (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- a cracking match...and I am rooting for the German player.

Yao Jie vs Cai Jiani -- ditto, the Holland player is more experienced.

Petra Overzier vs Lu Lan -- the Chinese player to win.

Tine Rasmussen vs Anu Nieminen -- both players have upsetted Wang Lin and Pi Hongyan in the previous round. Rasmussen has a home advantage.

WOMEN'S DOUBLES
Gail Emms/Donna Kellogg vs Jiang Yanmei/Li Yujia (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- Jiang/Li is now the only Singaporeans left. The English pair has an edge.

Lena Frier-Kristensen/Kamilla Rytter-Juhl vs Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nur Sugianti -- a tough match for Rani/Endang...but...they have a chance.

Sara Runesten-Petersen/Julie Houmann vs Kamilla Augustyn/Nadiezda Kostiuczyk

Pan Pan/Tian Qing vs Jo Novita/Gresya Polii -- the first real test for Jo/Gresya. They have beaten the young Chinese pair before...but..it will be very tough for them.

MIXED DOUBLES
Zhang Wei/Zhao Yunlei vs Rasmus Angor Kristensen/Anastasia Russkikh -- both pairs are unknown at the moment, but, the European pair has beaten Rasmussen/Andersen in the previous round.

Anthony Clark/Donna Kellogg vs Jocob Chemnitz/Julie Houmann

Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa vs Thomas Laybourn/Kamilla Rytter-Juhl (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- a tough match is in store and the INA pair stands a good chance of reaching another semi-final.

Robert Mateusiak/Nadiezda Kostiuczyk vs Nathan Robertson/Gail Emms -- the World Champion should take it.

Chen Yu might have the upper hand but I will not say "no problem".
Persson seems to be on a rise lately, so this could turn into a close 3 set.
Still Chen Yu is the favorite to win of course ...

The match between Jo/Gresya and Pan/Tian is quite intriguing. The Chinese pair was leading 11-9 at the interval before the INA pair surged ahead with 8 straight points to lead 17-11. I thought they would have wrapped up the match...but...the young Chinese pair didn't give up and managed to level it at 17-17. Jo/Gresya lead again 19-17, only to be levelled at 19-19. Eventually, the INA pair took the set 21-19. Phew...
