View Full Version : Denmark Open 2006: FINALS (05/11)
2cents 11-04-2006, 09:27 AM MS:
Chen Yu - Chen Hong
sorry Chen Yu, I didn't predict you won for the semi, I owe you this one
PS:
With their best 3 players at home, CHN are still perfect in Denmark open to turn the final into themselves inside event. There is no wonder CHN took the top 3 in WC, if Chen Yu went there, he might be in the semi-final also. Great job! Chens!
WS:
Jiang YJ - Lu Lan
Another final inside CHN members. Wow, China sweeps! Actually both Jiang YJ and Lu Lan came from the same province: Jiang Su. Jiang YJ should win based on their experience, but I think Lu Lan more powerful. Hard to predict.
It's always difficult to predict after semi.
cao ci dan 11-04-2006, 09:35 AM :D :D i agree with that...he'll win his 2nd title this year by tomorrow!!:)
hcpoirot 11-04-2006, 09:54 AM MS:
Chen Yu- Chen Hong
This will be a fierce battle cause whoever lost in this match probably will be LYB FIFTH choice for a while in a team event or major event which will allow only 3 or 4 players from the same country.
I predict CH will win based on his good record against all of his teammates.
WS:
Jiang YJ - Lu Lan
Its hard to predict cause they had never play each other in international events although they must be facing each other daily in training.
From their year performance so far, Lu Lan shall win but its not a guarantee cause JYJ is in fire by beating 2 Top players in a row, Xu Huai Wen and Yao Jie.
One thing I can predict though: Next year at this same time the WS World Ranking in Top 5 will be like this:
1. Zhang Ning or XXF
2. ZN or XXF
3. Zhu Lin
4. Lu Lan or Jiang Yian Jiao
5. LL or JYJ
Maybe Wang Lin or Wang Yi Han will also be in top 10. With other 4 spots go to Wang Chen, Xu Huai Wen, Yao Jie and Pi Hong Yan.
If this happen it will be the first time Top 10 WS badminton be ruled by all Chinese or ex Chinese players. :D
2cents 11-04-2006, 10:39 AM If this happen it will be the first time Top 10 WS badminton be ruled by all Chinese or ex Chinese players. :D
now it is already all Chinese or ex Chinese in the top 10. Mia is retired, and also an ethnic Chinese. :D
bananaboy 11-04-2006, 11:21 AM MS:
Chen Yu- Chen Hong
I predict CH will win based on his good record against all of his teammates.
Chen Hong has the better chance to win tomorrow!!! As long as he is physically capable(since he played 5 tournaments non-stop!!!), he should take this Denmark Open title.
If Chen Yu doesn't have what it takes to keep Chen Hong in uncomfotable stroke postitions tomorrow, Chen Hong will probably win with his fierce offense power!!!:D
Baderz_Jas 11-04-2006, 12:03 PM I think CH will win the MS :p
and JYJ will take the WS title :p just my predictions :D jia you :D
Baderz_Jas 11-04-2006, 12:13 PM Thomas/Kamila will take the XD for sure ;) :) they are on fire, literally :D lol :D
jiayou 11-04-2006, 02:39 PM MS : Chen Hong (CHN) – Chen Yu (CHN)
WS : LU Lan (CHN) - JIANG Yanjiao (CHN)
MD : Lars Paaske & Jonas Rasmussen (DEN ) - Mathias Boe & Joachim Fischer (DEN)
WD : Gail Emms & Donna Kellogg (ENG) - Kamilla Augustyn & Nadiezda Kostiuczyk (POL)
XD : Anthony Clark & Donna Kellogg (ENG) - Thomas Laybourn & Kamilla Rytter Juhl (DEN)
badMania 11-04-2006, 08:08 PM MEN'S SINGLES
Chen Yu vs Chen Hong -- battle of the two Chens and Chen Hong could win his second title of the year.
MEN'S DOUBLES
Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen vs Mathias Boe/Joachim Fischer-Nielsen -- the senior Danish pair to win their first title in 2 years.
WOMEN'S SINGLES
Jiang Yanjiao vs Lu Lan -- battle of the youngsters. I hope Jiang can win.
WOMEN'S DOUBLES
Gail Emms/Donna Kellogg vs Kamilla Augustyn/Nadiezda Kostiuczyk -- the English pair should win!
MIXED DOUBLES
Anthony Clark/Donna Kellogg vs Thomas Laybourn/Kamilla Rytter-Juhl -- the home crowd advantage favours the Danish pair. They also have a better head-to-head record against the English pair.
baihaki_as 11-04-2006, 08:24 PM i agree with your prediction badmania except for ws i think lu lan will take it
taneepak 11-04-2006, 09:35 PM Don't underestimate Chen Yu. If you look carefully he actually has better strokes than LD or Cheng Hong. Just watch his wrist which is very snappy and powerful and his cross net shots that can turn the tide of a rally around. His weakness probably is is lack of consistency and mental toughness.
Wong8Egg 11-05-2006, 01:02 AM Both CY and CH are one fire lately, but I think CH has the edge.
and i would pick LP/JR for their experience.
jiayou 11-05-2006, 01:08 AM my MS FAV definitely CHEN :-)
Of course Chen Hong laaaa ...

minglee 11-05-2006, 05:43 AM what the polish pair lack of now is the partnering skill between 2 players...
DinkAlot 11-05-2006, 05:46 AM Wow, both Gade and Jonassen lost to the Chinese? Impressive outing for Team China.

2cents 11-05-2006, 08:20 AM Both women taller than men in mixed doubles. Hehe, that's the reason they are in finals. You gotta have a taller lady as your partner!
2cents 11-05-2006, 08:23 AM Clark looks like Zhang Jun.
2cents 11-05-2006, 08:28 AM The Danes got frustrated. I bet them lose
badMania 11-05-2006, 08:39 AM Tense closing moments in the XD Final, eventually won by Anthony Clark/Donna Kellogg 22-20 in the rubber set!
**KZ** 11-05-2006, 09:04 AM wow....it was an impressive last game....anthony was making a few bad mistakes....but he made up with it and sealed the game....laybourn left donna's serve in the end and caused the defeat....the danes were really frustrated and angry with themselves
-wei- 11-05-2006, 09:09 AM Did they just stop streaming the badminton?

hcpoirot 11-05-2006, 09:28 AM To sum it all:
China won 2 titles.
MS: Chen Hong
WS: Jiang YJ
Denmark won 1 from MD:
Lars/Jonas Good job :D
WD won by Poland Suprise3
XD won by England Clark/Kellog.
At least Kellog won 1 title after her lost in WD finals. That cannot be said for Gail Emms who both fail in WD and XD.
Qidong 11-05-2006, 10:32 AM I watched the Polish pair in WC losing to the pair from Taiwan in WC QF. They were not that impressive. Now in just 1 month, now they won the DO - great improvment. :)
Syaoran_Style 11-05-2006, 11:13 AM The Polish pair lost to a malaysian pair =p
and it was during third round =)
cooler 11-05-2006, 01:06 PM Both women taller than men in mixed doubles. Hehe, that's the reason they are in finals. You gotta have a taller lady as your partner! it depends how the partners work together. Natsir and zhang yawen aren't tall and they' do pretty well.

Did that Taiwan pair go to Denmark open? They are the best just after CHN. So the Polish didn't do better. Just because there were no better one in the Denmark Open:cool:
2cents 11-05-2006, 01:17 PM it depends how the partners work together. Natsir and zhang yawen aren't tall and they' do pretty well.
Thanks, although I knew. I was joking, because men taller than women usually ;)
cooler 11-05-2006, 01:20 PM Thanks, although I knew. What you said is right.:D
Actually, let me rephrase what I said:
There are two kinds of pairing in Mixed double. I think mixed double is totally different from mens double or ladies double. Because in mens double or ladies' double, two persons take almost equal role in offense and defense. While in the mixed double, it is the MAN who do most job for offense and defense. Especially defense, man should be responsible for 3/4 of the court. So mixed double is like men's singles, the lady just plays a support role.
That's the traditional pairing of the mixed double, such as Xie ZB/Zhang YW. Because it behaves like men's singles, so some people found the pitfalls of these kind of pairing. They pair a tall lady, even taller than the man, then they can almost equally defense their territory. This new kind of pair is kind of success by just looking at who entered this time Denmark open.
That's the meaning in my original post. The new equalized pairing is a fashion now! so you got to look for a taller lady ;) ;)

nope, i need to correct u some more:D:p
winning formula is not a fashion, it's timeless. It's how strength and weakness of the pair are combined to yield the maximum overall effectiveness.
analogy in chess: u r saying now 2 rooks are in fashion and better than 1 queen + a pawn. I say no. I say it depends on how good the chess player use his 2 pieces together. Both are technicality equal in value but intangibles skills are incalculable.
analogy in badminton: tony is more effective at front and howard at back. Saw it 05 WC and saw it again when they were in calgary for exhibition. Kido and setiawan, kido is more effective at the back or sometime equally.Kido doesn't preferentially stay up the front. These 2 are just quick examples off the top of my head.
yes, in xd, the woman is weaker power wise, so they play less at the back, whether they are tall or short.
Baderz_Jas 11-05-2006, 03:20 PM well done CH! :D just as I predicted :D
and JYJ :D
and espcially Jonas/Lars :D
the polish pair, I'm suprised they beat Gail/her partner :D :o
and Clark/Kellogg ;) I thought the Danes would have a homecrowd advantage :D
Baderz_Jas 11-05-2006, 03:21 PM  I can't believe the Final's only 3 pages  not much interest  :D
maybe because Lin Dan's not there :D ;) :p

The main reasons are:
1. No chance for random Malaysia fans to post a random "boleh":p
2. No chance for die-hard Taufik's fans to make prediction of how Taufik will beat "insert name" in straight sets. That alone eliminates all disagreement and "FUN" posts !!!
3. Irrational fans usually are not interested in All-China MS+WS finals, or All-Denmark MD finals, or any match involving China and European country only matches.:p:p
Just check out the Philipinne Open(very weak lineup), and the MS top seeds were Hafiz(1) and Ng Wei(2), and the finals had more pages than this one???
Anyways, congrats to Chen Hong for being at the top again!!!
And more importantly, I can't believe Anthony Clark won something.:D

Chen Hong and Lars/Jonas would have been heavy favorites to win the final. I guess you will lose money if you really bet on the 5 finals. :D

yup true......it's getting real boring always seeing the same players or players from the same country playing each other in the finals......
ya know? anthony is not a bad player........he's quite good also.....
CLELY 11-06-2006, 02:14 AM From final day of DkO/06 :
- China again, gosh! Just Chen duo but local fave Peter and Kenneth couldn't stop Chinese domination (bad luck for the Danes or what??). 2 youngster Jiang and Lu in finale prove CHN regeneration is working good and already to continue and replace the senior ZN plus XXF a.s.a.p. LYB must be proud of this 'little success' story in fairy-tale land. Next year, 12 SS will test CHN force but before that take a look at Doha -- Can the mighty China close year of 2006 with perfect score : Golds in Teams and Individuals (esp.Male discipline)??
- In doubles, 3 title for 3 Euro country : Den-Eng-debutant Poland. What a huge surprise with the Polish victory! Overall, dissapointment feeling for DEN of course they can talk too much (same with last year) in their homeground.
- Empty for MAS and INA. What happen with Malaysia Boleh? Last time they grabbed title from LCW and CCM/KKK in MyO (medio June) and after this they always fail for several times. INA? As usual, no target.
- Congratz to all winners.
badMania 11-06-2006, 05:25 AM The board will be "quiet" if there's no Malaysian players involved in the tournaments :D
2 out of 3 of the European tourneys have been completed. Can INA steal a title or two in the Dutch Open this week? Team Pelatnas is banking on Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa (and Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nur Sugianti). Hendra A. Gunawan/Joko Riyadi have a good chance too, considering the fact that Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari/Lin Woon Fui have withdrawn. They only have to beat some English and French pairs  They can take comfort that they lost to the eventual champion in the Denmark Open in a 3-sets thriller.
DaddyCoach 11-06-2006, 08:31 AM Very surprised to read the comment about Anthony Clark "winning something". The guy has had a remarkable year in 2006.
He has
Been the first English player and only the 3rd guy ever to reach 2 finals at the same world championship
Now won the Danish Open
He is ranked 6 in the world at men's doubles and 7th in the world at mixed (and likely to go higher following the Danish).
He's also won 2 silver medals at previous European Championships and been 5 times English men's doubles champion
Sounds to me that he is a world class player and fully deserving of his Danish Open title. Credit to the guy!!!
bananaboy 11-06-2006, 10:07 AM Very surprised to read the comment about Anthony Clark I was being sacaristic in case you guys could not realized it from my previous post... Anthony Clark is obviously the stronger person in the duo of Clark/Blair and he is very smart in court from what I've seen in his matches during WC 06. He was able to set up lots of opportunities for his team, and he did very well at minimizing any unforced error.
2cents 11-06-2006, 10:49 AM yeah, I think it's kind of relieve that when bananaboy wrote "Anthony Clark winning something". He's happy to see the good results finally. Me too. Anthony deserved a title (something) but he had not got it until this year Denmark open.

This pair is a very tricky pair to play. Kido/Hendra have lost twice to them this year...both in important tournaments as well (All England first round and WC quarter-final)
I still can't get over why Kido/Hendra eventually lost when they have won the first set so easily (despite the delays in the first set which affected their concentration) and was leading at the interval of the rubber-set

Exactly!:D
Anthony Clark is good and you can see that he is a capable player, but yet he has not achieved alot throughout his career(he is 28 yrs old if the media is right) until this recent win... it would have been a sad thing to see a good player retire(not that he will soon) without much to brag about(so to speak):p
On a side note, I think Clark needs a better partner than Blair, just like Fu HaiFeng needs a better partner than Cai nowadays...hahaha:p:D (if possible):p
