Two years ago, when I was taught by a coach, he would let us warmup before games by putting some fast-paced music on while were were warming up our strokes.

I felt a certain rush when listening to the fast-paced music while hitting the shuttle.

I wonder, do any of you listen to music while you play???

Funny. My wife mentioned that she will spend more in shopping malls that have the so-called fast paced music being played. I wonder if there is a high correlation btw the urge to spend and type of music. In badminton for me, however, I would just close my eyes and relax for 1-2 minutes before a game to psyche myself up. Fast & loud music would make my head spin instead. :)

I have friends who do this. They'll turn on their ipods and start smacking away, but truthfully it doesn't make much sense to me because your ears are an important asset in badminton, so i prefer to sound of birds over music.

I usually preffer no music, but alot of cheering is great. More motivated for me :D

When I hear fast beat music during badminton, I feel got an headache :(
When too slow "fall asleep" ;)

sound of badminton birds is the greatest sound ever.

I think listening to your mp3 while playing badminton is the most arrogant and disrespectful action towards your opponent. It implies that you wont be moving a lot and you prefer music over badminton.

I always tell peopl eto take off their music while playing,

Well I haven't actually taken an mp3 to a badminton game.

My coach used to have like a mini stereo he brought, and we warmed up on that music doing drills.

Im mostly interested in listening to music while drilling etc.

And I agree that listening to the sound of the birdie is important during a real game :p

i agree. Listening to music while playing an opponent would be completely disrespectful- akin to saying 'your not worth my time but ill play you anyways' in my opinion.

Hmm, cheering... that reminds me of a high school that went slightly overboard with it imho. I personally prefer no cheering. If I'm going to win a game because of motivation, I want to be internal motivation that I can carry with me where ever I kill birds at.

Music while your doing aerobic exercise isnt a problem but I wouldnt want any loud music on whilst playing a game, I listen for my partners footfalls and the tell tale dink of a brushed shot when its out of bounds.

I prefer not to listen to mp3 whilst playing as not only does it show disrespect to your opponent that he is not good enough for you to treat the game seriously, but also because it interferes with movement i.e. headphone wires and the heavy unit.

Well, it's obvious that you shouldn't listen to music during a game for lots of reasons (Can't hear partner, distracts you, it's rude, extra weight...), but I think it's good for practice:

1) Get yourself into the mood.
2) If you can't hear the bird or your partner, you'll have to improve your communication, which is really important during a game.

Personally, I don't really have an extreme preferrence as to whether the music is on or not(I like it either way), but if there's music on for my practice, it had better be good.:p

We listen to music both during warm-up and physical training. Often we also have music on during game play.
Please Note the difference "listen to music" versus "have music on". Music during game play should help you concentrate better, when playing tournaments or team matches. You hear the music/noise from spectators but it doesn't distract you from your game.
Well that's the theory - we just like to listen to music.
At wedneysdays there is often "sportsnight" with reports from for instance Champions League football.

That reminds me: Why don't they make music with the SOUNDS OF BADMINTON?! OF course, it'd be only for the hardcore and all...but I think I'll make some files if I get the equipment and time. Anyone want to hear it?:p

Music with the sounds of badminton?? Sounds pretty weird.. you'll get confused! When you hear a smash and your opponent drops..

About.. last Thursday I think, someone played some music on a radio in the hall where I was training.. not too bad an idea, actually. But I only recall hearing the music while I was doing some warm up.. by the time I went on court I don't think I heard the music anymore.. I think I tuned it out.:p

But I can't imagine playing with some headphones stuck in my ears.. aren't the wires gonna be a hassle? Not to mention the mp3/ipod etc being an extra weight? I only cycle with my mp4.. and even that requires some adjusting of wires.. can't imagine having wires on me and trying to move with it.

It's easy, bring your recorder to a local tourny, then you have ur own "smash hit" edition. :p

Perhaps, but that's why we'll need to pay attention more! Yes, I love the music for our team warm-ups.
