If you're talking about HKO it was the first set :). Shortest match I've never seen. Unless you're talking about some other occasion.

Chen Hong vs Lin Dan

I think it was the second game....Chen Hong had problems with his knee, and told the umpire he gives up, and the umpire just said:
"LIN TAN : RETEIRED"...this was very funny ,,everybody knows difference between lin dan and chen hong

it was Lin Dan vs Taufik when the umpire was announcing the players, he said 'On my right, Lin Dan... China' then shaked his head :D when he was ment to say 'China, represented by Lin Dan' :D

Umpires can be funny too :D but this isn't that funny ;) :) :D

Taufik, one of my favourite players, picked at his nose several times during a few close-up frames. At the same match, a China coach can be seen sticking a pen into his ear while walking around on the next court. Although the match with Eric Pang of the Netherlands was in itself very exciting, the repeated "cavity exploration" just ruined it for me!

2. Zhang Jun falling over at the back of the court :D haha :D that's the funniset :D hehe :D

Would have been better, if Gao actually whispered or screamed "yours" to Zhang Jun when she didn't notice Zhang was already on the floor.

It happened before at where I play, and one person in the front screamed "yours" to his partner whom lost balance in the back of the court and felt on the floor... we laughed so hard watching the shuttle hit the floor, and the expressions on their face(completely confused) was pricelss.:D

anyone see gail emms miss the easiest shot in the world from a foot infront of her face during commonwealth games?... it was falling right on top of her head and she fanned on it and goes "Oh Sh*t!" then started laughing in embarrasment, even the umpire and commentators were laughing.

did anyone see nova widanto in the world clup xd final - change his racket in the middle of the longest rally in the match? ... i guess he broke his strings on the 3rd or 4th smash then after a net shot runs off the court and grabs another racket ... then wins the point after another 30 shots.. Makes me laugh everytime i watch it. :D

Chandra Wijaya did the same thing playing against the Danes in 2005 Malaysia or Singapore Open. Broke his string, ran off the court, get another racquet, came back in and defended serveral smashes.

A buddy of mine let the shuttle get behind him. He turned around so that his back was facing the net. He tried to hit the shuttle above his head. He then followed though the shuttle and hit himself in the face.

I was trying so hard to not bust out laughing

Then my friend came up to the bird and hit the bird off of the net for a winner.

It was the final of the 2004 Denmark Open, and it was indeed against Chen Qi Qiu & Zhao Tingting.

Nathan and Gail are sponsored by Hi-Tec and Carlton, Hi-Tec provide all the clothing and shoes and Carlton provide all the racquets

I agree it was very funny, not only did he break all his spare racquets, but all of Gail's as well. :D

I felt very sorry for him, he was very sheepish and trying to hide the Yonex logo against his chest!

And illegal, of course. It should have been a let.

Should it? How come? I've never read any rules about that being a let before. I always thought that if you didn't make it over, and it was stuck on the net, no matter who's side it was on, the person who hit it last, lost the point. Is it not so? Can anyone confirm or break my belief?

then Nathan Robertson ran out of rackets and then the officials gave him a yonex racket

You need to read the laws of the sport you play.

The relevant law is:

"14.2 It shall be a ‘let", if: ...

14.2.3 after the service is returned, the shuttle is:

14.2.3.1 caught on the net and remains suspended on its top"

Is that any help?

But isn't that only for serves? So does it apply usually?

But yes, it is a great help, because my friends and I were debating about it the other day.

Ok. I see, I wasn't reading that correctly, because for some reason, I was computing that as "only the shot that returns the serve", which was utterly absurd on my part. Sorry 'bout all the hassle. I have learned a new piece of badminton knowledge, as I seem to do every now and then. Thanks!:)

I agree, it was very funny. :D
I think he only turned up with 3 racquets as he'd broken loads of strings during the week and hadn't bothered to get them restrung. When he started playing you can hear him swearing and complaining that the tension on the racquets he had was too tight and he broke strings on all 3. Then he broke the strings on at least one of Gail's racquets, possible even 2.

I think at some point one of the England coaches rushed off to try and get some racquets re-strung for him but he didn't get back in time! Hence the Yonex racquet

It was also quite funny because Simon Archer who was commentating on the match said that if he had his racquet bag with him that day he could have loaned him a spare racquet as they most used the same Carlton model.

Poor Nathan! :)

Some time ago at a US Open,

John Holst-Christian and Thomas Lund were playing doubles, in the middle of rally, Thomas Lund broke a string, they stayed in the rally

The opposing team cleared the shuttle to John Holst-Christianson, Thomas Lund ran off the court and grabbed a new racket, John Holst-christianson saw his partner run off the court so he hit a high defensive clear to give TL time to get back on the court.

TL and JH-C won that rally (i think)

Ahhhhhh, just thought of one against my Coach Alex. We were playing half court singles and he said if I can get 2 points off him, he'd by me dinner. Well, I have no chance against him playing normally so every time he lifted, I aimed my smash and drop at the top of the net hoping it would flip over.

I actually got one smash to flip over so I was down 12-1 and then I hit another smash that appeared to hit the top of the net and flip over, but in a weird way. I cheered as I fell down in exhaustion thinking I had won a dinner however Coach said my smash broke the net just below the tape and went through the net so I did not score.

I inspected the net and it was indeed broken just below the top of the tape so I believe the shuttle did go through, instead of flip over. Still, I told my Coach, if anyone could manage to smash the bird, break the net and have the shuttle go through the net, do they not they deserve the point? He stood there, befuddled, but nodded in agreement...

...I still have not received my dinner. :p

P.S. Later on, something similar to this happened! :D

Well, I believe the net was already broken, I just happened to hit it there. :)

I haven't played half court singles with Coach in a long time but he now says I need to get 5 points, which is impossible because his defense is the Great Wall of China; and there's no way I'm going to hit the top of the net 5 times. :p

I remember a match between KIM/HA and TONY/CANDRA. it was an all england semi-final,cant remember which year. Ha dived to a shot and ran through the net into TONY/CANDRA'S end. A Few funnyss from me:

1st up was a freaky net shot i played. I moved to the backhand side of the net and did a gade style cross court net shot but the shuttle rolled across the tape, hit the post the net goes over and sat on top of the post for like 1 second b4 falling back my side!! GUTTED!!!

Second one was during a league match when I was out of position chasing the shuttle toward the back of the court with my back turned, hit it between my legs and hit myself in the balls! ouch.

funniest one though has to be during a match my mixed partner did a powerfull drive flat over the net in to the guys face who actually caught the shuttle between his teeth!!

the english team cleared to sudket. sudket jumped in the air, shouting "Harr!!!" and possibly going to smash hard, but then he changed his scream into an "Out!!!", and leaving the bird which he thought it would go out. the darn birdie land right on the line. every1 was smiling for a good 5 or 10 seconds.

Sitting down waiting for games....friend pulls out a racquetball and tells me to take a look at this "squash" ball.

I tell him it's not squash cause squash is smaller and doesn't bounce much

He doesn't back down...says no no, it's a squash ball...watch, it doesn't bounce....

He stands up, whips it straight down while looking down....sure enough, being a racquetball, it bouces hard and fast and hits him in the face

Needless to say he now knows the difference.

well, I have another one: last thursday, my shot hit the tape as it often happens... the shuttle stood on the top of the net for a second before falling to my opponent's side. then on it's way to the floor, the feathers got stuck in the middle of the net and the bird never hit the floor.. Haven't you read them after all this time? You are letting yourself down. You only have to read on from what I quoted by one line to find:

"14.2.3.2 after passing over the net is caught in the net; "

to see that it is a let.

Let's see, there was this one time in doubles yesterday when I was receiving serve, the opponent served long to my backhand, and I looked down to see if it was out. They apparently thought it was out, too, or that even if it wasn't, I wasn't going to hit it. I realized, before it was too late, that it was probably in, and so I whacked it down low with a backhand, and it dropped over to their side of the court. Of course, they weren't paying attention, and one of them suddenly noticed and yelled out, "Oh! Look!" but it was too late! :D What a surprise for them, haha!:p

Then, of course, there's the thing where you hold at the net and fake like you're going to cross-court, and when both start running to your righthand side, you hit it straight, and they both look at the birdie land on the floor.

This happened to me when I was playing recreation badminton in my highschool badminton club. Its funny but good thing no one got hurt in the process.

I was setting up to receive a serve...so I was pretty close to the service line. All of a sudden, I hear this clashing sound and then a racquet head (just the racquet head, without the shaft) flew right in front of me and hit the wall. As it turns out...someone's wilson racquet broke...so I decided that I would never purchase a wilson badminton racquet. :o

It was the first day back to badminton for me. It has been about a month and a half and my friend wanted me to go to the badminton gym with him so we can prepare ourself for the upcomming badminton tournament in CAL. He's been playing every week and he's in perfect shape. Me, on the other hand, went through the winter break staying home, watching movies, eating junk food, many family reunion and dinner (it was christmas season) and of course games. I was not in fit for anything but I had to start somewhere.

When we got on the courts to warm up, we wre automatically challenged to game. The game went well and we won. They weren't that great (not trying to be a jerk but it's true). But the most embarassing thing happened during this game. They were drop serving to my partner and he cleared it to the back left corner. The opp cleared it back to the middle and my partner and I were side by side because we were rotating. I was going for it. I was getting ready for a smash but my partner was able to get to it before I did. He hits the birdie and about 2 seconds later my racquet went "swoosh" (of course not hitting anything because the birdie was already returned). It was embarassing (if i didn't explain it well enough) because I was about 2 seconds slower than my partner tryng to end the rally. And he realized it and fell on the ground laughing his butt off.

few years ago at an underage badminton club playing XD, drove it down hard at my friend,(we're the men BTW). he drove it back crosscourt even harder. But when i realised the shuttle had not made it to the net , i looked up and he had hit his partner in the nose and blood was gushing everywhere. He since gave up XD completely. So difficult to keep a straight face while trying to help the girl:rolleyes:
