View Full Version : Dutch Open 2006: FINALS (12/11)
badMania 11-11-2006, 11:33 AM MEN'S SINGLES
Sairul Amar Ayob vs Wu Yunyong -- the Chinese should take it!
MEN'S DOUBLES
Rian Sukmawan/Eng Hian vs Hendra A. Gunawan/Joko Riyadi -- Djarum vs Pelatnas...another close candidate for match of the day. I am rooting for the Pelatnas pair to break their duck!
WOMEN'S SINGLES
Li Wenyan vs Adriyanti Firdasari -- I hope I am proven wrong here...and Firda does have a chance tomorrow!
WOMEN'S DOUBLES
Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nur Sugianti vs Katrin Piotrowski/Michaela Peiffer -- on paper, the opponents today were much stronger. So, the Pelatnas pair is also expected to break their duck!
MIXED DOUBLES
Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa vs Robert Blair/Jenny Wallwork (MATCH OF THE DAY) -- a tricky tie for Flandy/Vita. Again, they are expected to win...but...English pairs seem to have found the right strategy to beat INA pairs lately

badMania 11-12-2006, 05:46 AM At last, Team Pelatnas wins its first title in the 3-weeks European tour. Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nur Sugianti have also won their first title as a pair after they beat Katrin Piotrowski/Michaela Peiffer in straight sets 21-16, 21-16. Congratulations!
Up next is the crunch match between Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa and Robert Blair/Jenny Wallwork.

It wont be Sairuls FIRST title right??? Huh.. Didnt he win NZL Open before or something...
badMania 11-12-2006, 06:11 AM It was a tough battle as expected in the first set. The scores were quite tight, with the English pair leading 11-10 at the interval. Then, they stormed ahead 17-14, only to be equalized at 17-17. It was at this point that the English pair (like yesterday), got 3 consecutive points to lead 20-17. The INA pair only managed 1 more point before the English pair sealed the first set 21-18
Come on Flandy/Vita!!

Yeah... I support Flandy and Marissa too!!! Go Go GOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
chemile 11-12-2006, 06:25 AM Seem that Flandy/Vita inconsistent, probably they will lost.
chemile 11-12-2006, 06:27 AM Falndy/Vita lost 18-21 18-21. They could not manage both set. I thought they more suitable if meet asian's pair than european's pair.
badMania 11-12-2006, 06:28 AM Grrrr....a match against a more experienced English pair really has become a nightmare to INA pairs lately. My fear was confirmed as Robert Blair/Jenny Wallwork yet again beat the INA pair 21-18, 21-18  Scores were very tight till 18-18, before the English pair got the 3 points that won the match! Every time Flandy/Vita got ahead 2-3 points, the English pair always equalized! It's really a disappointing match!
chemile 11-12-2006, 06:44 AM Anybody knows about track record and profile of Wu Yun Yong and Li Wenyan? Those are incredible, mainly Li Wenyan that reached final through qualification round?
chemile 11-12-2006, 07:05 AM Aob won 1st set 22-20... Go Ayob

badMania 11-12-2006, 08:23 AM Adriyanti Firdasari just took the first set 21-16. It was quite an impressive display from Firda as she raced ahead from 6-6 to 11-6 at the interval. From then on, the first set was pretty much sealed. Let's hope she continues this momentum in the second set!
badMania 11-12-2006, 08:32 AM Li Wenyan: Team Ba-Yi, Born in 1983, Height 1.74m, Weight: 60kg

taufik-ist 11-12-2006, 08:37 AM firda..... u can do it :)
badMania 11-12-2006, 08:44 AM Phew...it was much closer in the second set. Firda was leading 11-8 at the interval and then 18-14 in the closing stages. The Chinese player staged a late comeback to level the scores at 18-18 and 19-19. Luckily, Adriyanti Firdasari took the last 2 points of the match and won Team Pelatnas's second title of the day. It also marks a rare occassion in which both the WS and WD win titles in a grand prix
The last match of the Finals is also quite anticipated: between the Djarum pair Rian Sukmawan/Eng Hian and the Pelatnas no 3 pair Hendra Aprida Gunawan/Joko Riyadi.
Sandy 11-12-2006, 08:46 AM so closed in 2nd set, finally Firda won
Firda has to prepare her mental stregth, too much u.e in 2nd.
Looking her potentially tall & sharp, she should be much better from this achievement. Neded more consistency, best playing I saw when she beat WMC in SEA Games.
taufik-ist 11-12-2006, 08:48 AM fort the first time, indonesian ws won over chines ws player with stright sets after susy susanti's era :)

I agree. Compared to both Maria and Nana, Firda is more aggressive and more suited to play against the more established players. She did well today..considering that I expected the Chinese player to win!
At least she has won 2 GP titles (the NZ Open last year and now the Holland Open this year) and 1 SEA Games Gold, compared to Nana
badMania 11-12-2006, 08:51 AM Come on AG/Joko!!! Break your duck!!!
badMania 11-12-2006, 08:52 AM Since this is an all-Indonesian Final, let's see which pair do u guys support :D

just send her to many tournaments (4,5,6 stars), i'm sure she will improve
Sandy 11-12-2006, 08:55 AM Come on AG/Joko!!! Break your duck!!!
Sorry I'm on Eng Hian/Rian's side, he.he.
Go Eng Hian & Rian !!
taufik-ist 11-12-2006, 08:56 AM Since this is an all-Indonesian Final, let's see which pair do u guys support :D
i'll support the winner :)
badMania 11-12-2006, 08:56 AM This could go to 3 sets....but Rian/Eng Hian are leading right now
badMania 11-12-2006, 08:58 AM The Djarum pair is leading 11-7 at the interval of the first set
The match goes pretty fast...
badMania 11-12-2006, 09:00 AM Just 1 smash winner so far from the Pelatnas pair as they trailed 11-16:cool:
extremenanopowe 11-12-2006, 09:05 AM Whoa... this guy so good ah?? Well done man! Taniah mat!
rgds:D
Sairul Amar Ayob won 22-20, 14-21, 21-9.
Sandy 11-12-2006, 09:06 AM looking the statistics, less winner than "other" and other is 29 of 36
is it mean "other" just for unforced error or also forced error?
I guess it's mean both error
badMania 11-12-2006, 09:07 AM Rian Sukmawan/Eng Hian take the first set 21-15
They completely dominated from the beginning, never allowing the Pelatnas pair to even come close!
badMania 11-12-2006, 09:09 AM Once again, the Djarum pair establishes an early lead at 5-1.
The Pelatnas pair seems to have lost their form??
badMania 11-12-2006, 09:15 AM The Djarum pair is primed to win their second title this year as they lead comfortably 11-6 at the interval of the second set. The Pelatnas pair is not allowed to attack at all!!!
badMania 11-12-2006, 09:22 AM Again..again..and again...3 times finalists...and all three lost!!
The second set was a disaster as the Djarum pair strolled to a 21-10 win! So, Rian Sukmawan/Eng Hian end their European tourney with another title in their collection and a possible top 15 ranking by next week. Meanwhile, Hendra A. Gunawan/Joko Riyadi are still waiting for their first GP title
**KZ** 11-12-2006, 09:23 AM they beat bin shen/soon hock very easily yesterday....adn i think they'll do the same today
badMania 11-12-2006, 09:28 AM I think the INA young pairs always have a problem of facing a pair with experienced player (like Eng Hian).
This year, Hendra A.G./Joko Riyadi lost a total of 9 times:
2 times to Albertus Susanto Njoto/Yohan Wiratama Hadikusumo
1 times each to Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah, Sudket Prapakamol/Patapol Ngernsrisuk, Zheng Bo/Gong Weijie, Chew Choon Eng/Hong Chieng Hun, Michael Logosz/Robert Mateusiak, Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen, and to Rian Sukmawan/Eng Hian.
Let's hope they will mature next year....
Sandy 11-12-2006, 09:31 AM much improvement of Eng Hian/Rian
in early pairing, they lost to some Pelatnas players easily. I thaught they were good combination (Rian tall with hard smash and Eng Hian with tricky ball in the net), but not suitable.
Some results in this tournament prove me wrong, they showed better and better.

YAYA!:D Rian won.
Felix. 11-12-2006, 09:36 AM It's a good showing from the Indonesians players maybe with excception of Flandy/Vita. Pressure must have got into them. These are the non-main squad players except for the women's single and they managed to grab 3 titles.
Rani/Endang should have a good future with the height they had. How old are they btw?

Endang is 23 or 24 y.o and Rani is older than Endang. I just remember Endang was member in INA Junior squad in Guangzhou 2000 (same with Li Wenyan)
blackrose 11-12-2006, 09:51 AM This is not first international. Sairul was won NZ International. May be better said this is first title in 1 - 6 stars.

Rani Mundiasti is 22 yo (born in 4 OCT 1984)
Endang Nur Sugianti is 23 yo (born in 29 NOV 1983).
Both are young and very promising indeed.

Hendra AG/Joko will definitely be in the main squad soon. As for Rani/Endang, they have the potential to be the no 2 pair. Flandy/Vita should be a main team squad, while Devin/Yunita will probably still remain in the second team.

They won the 2* NZ Open a few mths ago.
CLELY 11-13-2006, 01:09 AM Nice success from INA squad in this November, great job for Firda-Rian/EH and also Rani/Endang. Hidoep Merah Poetih! But out of prediction, F/V must flopped to the unfamiliar England pair.
Really unusual formation of young-old pair Rian (20 s'thing) & EH (30),are they just temporary partnership? (because age difference between them is far enough) Maybe badMania know this.
Looks like Rian starting collect new fans here esp.good-look lover.
Finally, Sairul has brighten 'Truly Asia' country hope after five months faced series of failures. Congratz!
Bad day for the host with no title, poor Oranje...

Rian Sukmawan has left Pelatnas and rejoined Djarum. So, the club pairs him up with Eng Hian who also left Pelatnas earlier this year.
As for whether they are in for long-term....it's still not sure yet.
Well, we do have a number of young-old pairings, like: Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir.

Thanx f/ sharing info, I guess PBSI will wait further progress from this pair. Hopefully, they can join the elite soon. Exactly, INA has Nova (born 1977) and Lilyana (born 1985) as WR#1 now but I doubtly they can exist 3-4 years later considering Nova's age not young anymore comparing Lilyana who will be 24/25 that means 'golden-age' for athlete. Probably PBSI has special tactics to overcome this age-gap matter.

For Rian/Eng Hian, it's not PBSI's decision. It's up to Djarum and the individual players involved. Djarum has been very supportive and it is rewarded by the rapid rise of this pair. After this week, they will be ranked 11 or 12, just outside the top 10
Bombat 11-15-2006, 12:38 AM Indonesia has produced another great MD..:D:D
