View Full Version : WHo do you support in AG2006?
indra 11-13-2006, 12:52 AM I want to know in this BC, who and which team do you actually support for better or worse in the upcoming AG?
I guess knowing who is in which side is very interesting so that we know who is "against" who [fans].:D :D

phaarix 11-13-2006, 02:52 AM LCW and TH :)! I don't really mind which country wins. But I do like Malaysia and Indonesia so I guess I'll cheer them both on. I would support China since I'm a whole 1/16th Chinese :p. But I think they've won enough this year, so best I support someone else :D.

There is NO WAY LCW can win, as long as LYB is the head coach for Team China... and you can bet on that!!!!!!!!!!!:p LYB has gotta be the coach of the year 2006!!! He can cause you to lose without even make his presence on the court...LOL.
How many times does LD has to beat LCW CONSECUTIVELY to convince LCW fans that LD is simply better???:p:D:D:D Plus there is still TH in the way between LCW and AG gold metal... and we all remember the beating LCW took from TH at this year Japan Open.
haifeng4ever 11-14-2006, 12:38 AM MALAYSIAN TEAM OF COURSE! NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!MALAYSIA BOLEH!
bananaboy 11-14-2006, 12:41 AM MALAYSIAN TEAM OF COURSE! NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!MALAYSIA BOLEH!
Yes, you should support Malaysian badminton... because if they fail again this time, BAM will need all the donation they can get from you, since they won't get much more funding from the government... LOL.:p:D:D:D

BBoy, firstly, you are right if we base on the past results!
But like everything else you can be wrong in the future, don't you agree ? Our prediction is for the future !:)
Every now and then, the 'El Nino' effect comes into play and our guys (LCW, Hafiz, Roslin) perform unexpectedly.:p Believe me, the tide will change because the 'Yin and Yang' is never constant - Confucious.:D
LCW has made enough money for this year so his motivation is probably not there after the Commonwealth Games. But lest excuses are seen to be made here, let us wait for the Asiad to come round and see what happens then.;)

First, it's bananaboy and not bboy... :p "b" can mean alot of other things, if you know what I mean.:p
I understand what you mean, and it really doesn't matter at all whom we predict will win... I just like to have funny arguments just for the heck of it.:p
Seriously though, I know LCW may be able to surprise some top players, but you mentioned Hafiz... now I really have to disagree! If he doesn't perform better this time, then he really needs to stay home from now on, and let someone else takes the spot. From his previous tournament results, he was only able to defeat some low ranking players from "non-badminton" countries... eg. players you hardly ever heard of their names. Then once he played against a better player this year, he simply got owned to the extreme... eg. Thailand open against Chen Jin, and WC06 against Lin Dan.. those were just embarassing for himself as a former All-England champ, and a disgrace to his country.
Let WCH take his place, since at the very least WCH would put up a fight instead of giving up like Hafiz.
Oh... as far as LCW makes enough money this year... ummm... I don't think so... because you can never have too much. Even if you do have too much, there is still constructive ways to utilize it to benefit others, so no... that is not a good enough reason for not so great performance.

What's with this bananaBoy stuff ? :) I love bananas.
Seriously though, I know LCW may be able to surprise some top players, but you mentioned Hafiz...
Hafiz is ok --- it is just that his motivation is down a notch. When he needs the money, he will work hard and won't give up that easy.
Let WCH take his place, since at the very least WCH would put up a fight instead of giving up like Hafiz.
WCH is not up to scratch yet --- so he might disappoint you if you expect too much. Great guy tho.

Well LCW earned a lot this year for the first time --- to him, this has made him a bit less 'hungry'. But as soon as he uses up a bit of it, he might start to 'grow' hungry again. I am looking at him doing that in the near future when his bank needs a 'top-up' (LOL).

Yes! LYB is the SMELLY coach of the year 2006! Actually he has no competition there. Imagine a coach having to stoop so low to intimidate a player. We all know CHN has won, on not a few occasions ,by foul (or rather non-badminton) means.
bic33 11-14-2006, 07:54 AM TH and LCW are good friends... so does it mean that LCW was just too light on TH the last time around? lol

If a twenty-four years old athlete in his prime is afraid of a 40+ years old screaming some non-sense outside of the badminton court, then he deserves to lose... You focus on your opponent, not your opponent's coach.:p Even if Li Mao and LYB starts a fight during the match, LCW still should've focus on his own match... and yes, it is easier said than done, but it should've been the case.
Be honest, if LYB were to leave China national team, guess which country would pay him a large sum to get him on board... that's right... Malaysia.:p

Cant understand why all u LYB fans always keep sayin he is the reason LCW lost, just give some credit to BCL la. Who says LCW is scared of LYB? Well i should say its another way round, its LYB is the ONE who so afraid of LCW destroying his "great ambition"! Esp when LM is behind him, that might be the only explanation why he always acted like a MORON when LCW plays :p

If you take the time to watch the WC 06 match between LCW and BCL(a few times), you will realize that BCL should be really glad that LCW made a lot of unforced errors in the 1st and 3rd set... and even though BCL won the game, but most of the time, he was not in complete control or it was the other way around. I like watching BCL's style of play as well, but the fact is that his style of play does not give him any advantage when he is up against the likes of LCW. Interesting thing is during the 1st set at LCW 18: Bao 12... if you don't count the two serving errors of Bao's, he actually took 10 points in a row to beat LCW at 22:20... but I know we can't count like that.:p
Just noticed that during the game, every time Bao built some momentum(2 points + ahead), LCW would call for a break... either for sweat on the court or even medical attention(which he threw away the bandage the next moment) to break Bao's momentum. The next thing you know is that LCW would take the next 4-6 points right after the break.. and LCW fans used to say that he doesn't play any tricks in matches... yeah right...:p
Bao deserves credit for winning that match on that day, but if he wants to win consistently against LCW, he is going to need a lot of work and training to do so.:D Just maybe instead of training with LD alot, try training with Chen Hong instead.:D
**KZ** 11-15-2006, 07:59 AM I'll support malaysia though our chances of getting gold this time is very slim....only got a chance in MS....and it all depends on LCW....maybe we can win in mens team event...

I would never call these "predictions".. it's more like "Pick your favorite player, pair, and country".
No facts from the past, and nothing from the present to back up those claims but based on total favoritism.
Facts from the recent tournament results:
Thomas cup: CHN 3:0 IND
LD 2:0 TH... (TC 06, JO 06) and nobody beside LCW and PG had won a match against LD this year(outside of the China national team):p
As far as MD and XD are concerned, the facts do support your ideals but not quite as convincing as the facts that support LD will win Men singles as LD's record for this year is most dominating in recent history.
Then someone will say "but you can't tell the future from the past".. if that's the case, I hope nobody argues with me if I say " the winner of MS in this year Asian game will be NG Wei from Hong kong, because of the reason that I am from Hong Kong, even though he has not won a tournament this year"
purpledoi 11-15-2006, 08:15 AM Go Msia LoL!

Hey every player does that during the game, when yr opponent racing some points ahead, its normal to call for a break in order to break opponents momentum. "Strategy" will be a better word.
But complaining yr opponents to the referee, refusing opponent's request on changing of shuttles, etc. is really considered some "bad tricks" and displays bad sportsmanship. Well, these is the ones some chinese players oftenly does.....

So a "trick" done by every player is called a "strategy"... where as a trick done by a few players is called "bad tricks"...:rolleyes: Honestly, anything that is not related to a racket hitting a shuttle which causes frustration, loss of concentration(and or momentum) to your opponent is "a bad trick" no matter how you try to cover it with nice "words".:p
In the game of BCL vs LCW in wc 06, at the point leading to LCW 19:18 Bao in the first game, LCW mis-judge Bao's lift to the back court and asked for a shuttle change(the shuttle had hardly been used)... I highly doubt a lift can really damage a shuttle, so Bao refused and the Umpire refused the shuttle change... Now who is playing tricks here???

Sounds like the fans already beg for mercy...:p
Don't blame China for dominating the international badminton scene... It's just that other country aren't strong enough as a "unit" to compete with China.
4 years ago... Lin Dan's nick-name was "first round Dan" then 2 years later he became " super Dan".
3 years ago... Cai/Fu was ranked at world #10 and was considered only an average pair... this year they won world championship.
What about the other players from other asian countries? Besides LCW and kido/Setiwan, Candra/Tony... who else has been significantly performing in the scene? By that, I mean winning titles and not just being running-ups and semi-finalist... like nobody else.
Indonesia and Malaysia should be able to produce more top class players as they do have some of the best Mens singles and doubles players today... Just how can you not reach top class when you can possibly train with partners like LCW, TH, Kido/Setiwan... well back then there were Sigit/Candra... Gosh... Even I can get better if I have a chance to train with them day in and day out.:D If you look at China's Mens doubles, Cai/Fu basically has no top team to train with... unless LYB comes in and play them...LOL:p Chen Jin gets better so quickly as he has good players to train with everyday... then you look at guys like Hafiz and Simon.S, they just remain at the same level... sad.:(
On the women's side... there is just nobody that can come close to the level of ZN, XXF, and China's womens doubles pairs... until one day some highly talented players are developed properly in other coutries, China will always dominate the women's side.

U cant get my point do u? Whatever u wanna call it, "tricks" or "strategy" like askin for a towel break is normal to be used in a player's game. But refusing changing of shuttles and camplaining yr opponents to umpire is shows much DISRESPECT. When yr opponents nvr refuse yr change of shuttle, why should u refuse them? And did u forget to mention when Bao complain Lee to the umpire, is that really neccessary? These things i nvr see other teams did the same thing, Indons? No. Koreans? No. Malaysians? No. Well, the so called "Great Wall of China" is the one who is SO calculative, how irony hah?

Refusing shuttle change is a sign of insecurity. I believe CHN holds the patent for that. Was LD the one who roll out this immature behaviour? I don't remember CY or CH ever refusing shuttle change. It's a bit sad for Bao to show disrespect for his opponent. You see, Bao was in supreme form and would have beaten LCW (who was not in top form) anyway. But because of his behaviour, Bao's win comes across as less credible or with little honour. That's also why LD 's titles are less than credible. I don't think LYB understands the importance of winning with honour and credibility.

Yup except the older players like CH and CY. If they win, win it fair and square. There is no need to be so extremely calculative over yr opponents, give some respect! Thats is why CH is the only chinese player that i truly respect now, he win with class.
hara^kazuko 11-17-2006, 08:21 AM Chen Jin is another one, he stays cool after losing a match, it is enough to make someone give you some respect... That's why Lin Dan was never in the Eddy Choong Player of the Year Award all these years

Refusing to change shuttle is the new trend now especially for Team China, I have seen it spread to almost every event and even other countries are starting to follow which makes viewing less enjoyable when both sides started to apply to the same trategy. IBF just have to step in and come out with solution.
Everyone plays like gentleman/gentlewoman when they are leading, trailing is totally different story.

Correct indeed... where are the on-court manners nowdays?
hcpoirot 11-17-2006, 11:01 AM Based on this year resukts, for Men Team event should go to China. Malaysia will be runner up and probably made a suprising results if China did not careful. But China had 65% to win the team event.
For Women team event, no doubt at all 1000% China again. Even if ZN and XXF, Gao/Huang did not play, China still will win the gold medal.
hcpoirot 11-17-2006, 11:14 AM Refusing shuttle change is a sign of insecurity.
Very funny.
Refusing changing shuttlecock did not breaking IBF law. Its just another tactic to made your opponent losing concentration. Its not cheating or win without dignity.
The fact is if you didnot had great skill and mental, it will be utterly hopeless even if you refused tochange the shuttlecock all the matches cause you will be probably lost.
Saying LD titles is less than credible is laughingstock matter. Cause in the end, at least for this year LD won all the major title convincingly.
If refusing shuttlecock become a problem, surely IBF will forbid this move. Or maybe next time the players can't asked any time break after a long rally or asked the court to be clean if there are sweat on the floor? Cause these are also tactic to delay times, and probably not too honour for you?
Maybe it will be another song you write if your fav player win lots of titles this year and LD lost all time this year?
Or probably next time, you can suggest that in winning with honour and dignity, players cannot attack other opponent weakness. Example: player A had bad backhand, so player B in order to win with HONOUR AND DIGNITY cannot attack player A backhand and had to play against his forehand all time?
hcpoirot 11-17-2006, 11:21 AM Forget to add, if the umpire feel that a player behaviour wrongly during the matches, they can always give those players 2 yellow card and one point will be given to his opponent and one point deduct from his points.
So far this year? Rarely players got yellow cards or red cards.
So this far, players behave quite normally in court. Cause they know if they tried something funny or forbidden by IBF, they will get the cards from umpire or later by IBF.

I think you are quite right  ;) :D hehe :D :) jia you China Team :)
bananaboy 11-17-2006, 05:20 PM U cant get my point do u?
First of all, If you don't do something stupid in the first place, your opponent will not have a chance to complain to the Umpire about you... plus if the Umpire does not feel necessary, what makes you think he/she will call the player over???
So, even when the shuttle is perfectly fine, and the umpire agrees to it, you still need to change it because the opponent feel the need to waste some time??? How about wiping the floor as often as every two rallies played??? Is that really necessary??? If LCW can sweat so much in that game, it can only be cold sweat from fear. The PG vs LD final in TC04, PG could drain sweat from his shirt and he never asked for the floor to be swiped every 2 rallies.
Like I said before, a trick done by everyone is still a trick... two "wrongs" don't make one "right".

1st of all, LCW did not do anything stupid or against the rules, is that neccesary to complain yr opponent when they shout in joy or despair? Moreover he is NOT even shouting at the opponent. What BCL did is purely disrespectful and low in class! Is that neccasary to annoy yr opponent like that just to win? I didnt see players older generation chinese players like Sunjun, XXZ does that b4, when they win, they win in class.
And wipping the floor means wipping cold sweat from fear??? Well thats the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard!!! LD does that all the time, does that mean he is so extremely scared of his opponents??? :D

Funny thing is you only read between the lines and your selective reading ability is just too funny.
Bao complained to the umpire that LCW kept crying about line-calls.. and the umpire agreed so he called LCW over... simple as that... if LCW didn't give Bao an "excuse"(so to speak), Bao wouldn't be able to complain about him.
LCW is a better player than Bao in my opinion, but he is not smart enough to prevent people from getting to him psychologically... in that WC 06 match, he should have easily defeated Bao, but he didn't.... Bao didn't cheat and he won fair square... dishonor??? disrepectful??? Are you kidding??? After watching the TC06 match between Koo/Chan vs Eriksen/Lungaard... nobody can tell me that all Malaysian plays the game without tricks... CCM wasted so much time, took like a towel break in like every 2 points and even at 1 point took another towel break after just 1 rally... and not to mention the bad jesture towards the Danes... not that the Danes didn't do it back though.:p
taufik-ist 11-17-2006, 09:03 PM th for ms, sudket/saralee for xd
