nwy5633 11-17-2006, 04:04 AM Twist of event gets veteran shuttler Choong Hann Asiad berth
KUALA LUMPUR: In a twist of event, veteran men singles shuttler Wong Choong Hann has been given the nod to compete in his third Asian Games after Mohd Roslin Hashim was ruled out due to an elbow injury.
On Friday, national chief coach Yap Kim Hock announced that Roslin had withdrawn from the Asiad, which will be held in Doha from Dec 1-15.
Signs of trouble surfaced when Roslin pulled out from last week's Dutch Open after picking up his old injury.
And two days ago, Roslin confirmed his worst fears by informing that he could not play at the Asiad.
Without Roslin, world number two Lee Chong Wei, Mohd Hafiz Hashim, Kuan Beng Hong, Choong Hann, Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari-Lin Woon Fui and Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong will represent Malaysia in the men’s team.
Choong Hann or Beng Hong will be counted on as the third singles.
By including Choong Hann, who is on the road to recovery following an injury (ruptured Achilles tendon) during the Thomas Cup Finals in May, it will be tougher for Malaysia to meet the National Sports Council (NSC)'s target of a silver medal in the men's team event.
Kim Hock however, was confident that the late switch in the men's singles would not dampen the spirit of the team in their effort to win at least a gold medal at the Asiad. Malaysia have not won a gold medal since the badminton team powered by Punch Gunalan, Ng Boon Bee and Sylvia Ng bagged a total of three gold medals at the 1970 Asiad in Bangkok. :D

look like there is no problem for mas to win the final point for men event if choong hann was the 3rd singles...
Ethan 11-17-2006, 04:11 AM unless against china. But i watched the match between him and Dicky in the Dutch Open, his receiving stance is a bit weird compared to before he sustained the injury. His right hand, seems to open up more compared to normally people put their other hand close to their body.
fukusami16 11-17-2006, 05:02 AM ya ethan what i said is true ...He chnage his style of play....Compared to last time, now he has a different style of play ...he is more on offensive player now...age catching up...
jamesd20 11-17-2006, 05:21 AM ...he is more on offensive player now...age catching up...
You mean Deffensive? He used to be an attacking player, very physical. It was about 2004/5 he changed to a more rally-type player, without too many good results. But his physical game meant he couldn't keep on playing and play in the same way.
Syaoran_Style 11-17-2006, 06:22 AM Even if it's really to see choong hann participation in this asian games, i feel really sorry for roslin, He made an incredible come back this year, reaching the korea open final and this sentence makes me feel more and more sad for him : "And two days ago, Roslin confirmed his worst fears by informing that he could not play at the Asiad." .. =/
Seems like he worked a lot this year and game good results to malaysia
Well, it's also a good thing, choong hann is making also a come back ! wish he'll be in a great shape in Doha =)
Baderz_Jas 11-17-2006, 06:52 AM  cool ;) :D go WCH! :D this is good hews :) hehe :D
jiayou 11-17-2006, 07:23 AM i hope he can kick some ass :-p , well at least until QF or even better SF hihihihihih .....
siaoching 11-17-2006, 07:24 AM It was unlucky to Roslin
But for WCH, it's a good news,:D
But will he show a good result?
And is it a good news for the Malaysia team?
Hehe...i really dunno, but i believe that Malaysia's player won't make their fans disspointed.........
kenny7_2006 11-17-2006, 07:59 AM Hmm, a comeback for Wong? hehe... He was my favourite player last time when he reached the WC final, and so glad to see him back now... hopefully he can restart his stop-start career... Go WCH!
hara^kazuko 11-17-2006, 08:14 AM I prefer Roslin than Wong Choon Hann, so it isnt really a good news for me anyway... Wong Choon Hann definitely needs more than a month to suit himself with the badminton world
pauline 11-17-2006, 09:04 AM This is so sudden.....feel sorry for Roslin..
As for WCH,wish him all the best in AG!
This might be his Last Asian Games. He is definately indeed suprised to be with the Team for Doha.
kenny7_2006 11-17-2006, 09:15 AM very surprised, coz he didnt think that he'll be included in the AG squad....
Dreamzz 11-17-2006, 09:39 AM that is good news indeed.
KBH in 3rd singles is just not good enough, especially against CHN/DEN or event KOR.
yannie 11-17-2006, 09:44 AM GO CHOONG HANN!!!!!!!
Sorry for Roslin though. Sniff.
jaclyn 11-17-2006, 09:50 AM good luck to wong choong hann, all the best...
get well soon, roslin!!!
Good to hear that Choon Hann is selected but it also shows how thin Malaysia squad is in depth chart. Malaysia may still do well in Team event as long as we don't meet China before Final.
cao ci dan 11-17-2006, 10:36 AM :D :D Hoooray!!:) Glad he's playing for AG!!all the BEST!!:)
:( :( Unlucky Roslin!!!....sigh!
Really too bad for Roslin. For sure C Han will play his best in this tournament. Be prepared for some exciting matches of him playing.
hcpoirot 11-17-2006, 10:54 AM Based on the ranking, I am sure in team event China will be seeded 1 and Malaysia seeded 2. So, the those two teams will not meet each other before final.
Korea probably seeded 3 while Indonesia seeded 4.
hcpoirot 11-17-2006, 10:56 AM With WCH play third match, Mlaysia had a big chances to cruise into fonal in team event considering WCH in team event play much better than KBH who choked if the score 2-2.
Shiro 11-25-2006, 06:01 AM Whatever happens, I am going to be supporting him. It is not that I am expecting for him to play as he had been playing before the injury...it takes time to shape up but I am just hoping that he will be showing some actions in AG. Hope that he will 'come back'.
Shyen 11-25-2006, 10:51 AM Good Luck Choong Hann!!:)
for me...he's better than KBH!!:o
tjl_vanguard 11-25-2006, 11:37 PM Good Luck Choong Hann!!:)
