Booked my tickets last month. Apparently there's already a shortage of seats. Let's hope it'll be as good as last year's... Looking forward to Taufik Hidayat who was missing last year, more of butt kicking from Lin Dan and of course for Gail Emms and Nathan Robertson to regain their title!!!

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on the accommodations there are to stay in for the AE2007. I heard that there are certain hotels that the players stay in, if so which ones?
Thanks

 already short of tickets!, i usually go on thursdays and it's always empty and never full, even the qf, but this year? hmm maybe signs the sport is getting better. well i'll be going and for sure. hopefully to see if any new shoes are going to be availble to be brought:rolleyes:.
hopefully i'll get fu and cai to sign on something decent instead of my programme this time and see them win on front row seats instead of losing in front of me like last time. hmmm i think this years all england will be special because of the super series, better quality and the first time for 21-point rally. also bbc have announced they're coveraging the sudirman cup as well as a friendly between england vs germany.:) hmm sky sports seemed to have not bothered to get coverage of copenhagen masters anymore since 2005.
already ecstatic for badminton in 2007.

Every year without fail there is a rumour that there are not many ticket left.
There always are at least some tickets left for the QF-Finals on the weeks of the tournament (albeit the ones high up)

I just bought my tickets today (edge of block 4 so I am going to pretend it's block 3!). That's about as far away as I could get from the mighty lungs of Jas!
The ticketoffice still had tickets but all the best tockets (ie block 10 and 3) had gone except for the rows at the very top. Still the NIA isn't that big so it shouldn't make much difference.
Kenny, the best website I've come across for booking hotels in the UK is www.lastminute.com (http://www.lastminute.com). So long as you get a hotel in the centre of Birmingham the NIA will only be a short walk away. The NIA is in postcode area B40 if you want to get a hotel thats really close.
See you all there! I feel all tingly....

I've got ticketss for Saturday - unfortunately as I bought them late, could only get block 10 upper tier, although got a few more friends going who are in block 10 lower. He's offered to swap seats after the interval so that we can get a different experience :) !

Travelodge is cheap and near the NIA.
I can't remember the name of the hotel we stayed in last year. Four of us booked double rooms and it cost £25 each per night. The accommodation obviously was very basic and the hotel was around 2 miles from the NIA.
Just google hotel chains Birmingham; you can retrieve a list of hotels in Birmingham from venere: http://en.venere.com/hotels_birmingham/ (http://en.venere.com/hotels_birmingham/#o=default&r=0&m=0&f=C000300100000NaN&checkin=2007-03-08&checkout=2007-03-09&pval=2&rval=1&sb=0) (uncheck "Show only accommodation with online booking (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/)" ).
I should be going to the AE this year time permitting.

Well, the lower rows means you get close ups of the players:)! Although your vision would have to be concentrated on one court most of the time, you might not get to see other matches in progress clearly compared to the upper rows. However, I find a lot of people leave after watching their favourite players play, some might even go there just to catch one game and then leave. So you might be able to switch seats later on in the day.

For those of you who would require accommodation check out:
http://www.smoothhound.co.uk/birmingh.html
Gives you a list of hotels in the birmingham area, although you'd need to check which ones are near the NIA, use google maps or www.multimap.co.uk (http://www.multimap.co.uk) to find out the distances.
The Brittania hotel in the Birmingham City Centre seems quite reasonable and still within walking distance to the NIA (about 20 to 30 mins). I used to work in birmingham and have walked it before.
Hope this helps!

I've got tickets for the Fri, Sat and Sunday and am in the Novotel on Friday and saturday night.
I booked the Novotel because its s close and the Friday games last year didn't finish until midnight. I guess that's unlikely to happen this year with the NSS but I still wanted the option of stumbling out of the NIA and into bed in cae it did go on until late.

Yea, last year on Friday the last match finished at 12:30 with MD, INA vs MAL :p I'm sure it won't happen this year though :( :D
Yeah I remember that, we linejudges had a hard time waiting for it to end. It was tiring especially that we've linejudge the whole day. Taiwan coach Fung Permadi had a quick shut eye on the bench while waiting for the shuttle with us~

Yannie, it's the Novotel Birmingham Centre (http://www.novotel.com/novotel/frm_fiche_hotel.svlt?liste=1&code_hotel=1077&&productCodeBarReal=DBC&productCodeBarDateIn=DBC) :)
;) It's 89GBP per night for three of us including breakfast :)
hey Baderz_Jas .... I just checked Novotel Birmingham Centre and they have a room for 59GBP/night ..... is that a good deal? would you know if they have a shuttle between Birmingham Intl Airport and the hotel? their website also said that it is walking distance from the NIA .... I wouldn't have to rent a car then if that's true .... although driving on the left side of the road was always an adventure.

My t-shirts will look like the ones in this thread:

There was a more recent design competition (the old t-shirts sold out) here:

But not sure if we decided on a winner hopefully we can......I need some more now:D :D
Anyway I am in any seat on Wednesday and thursday (no allocations) and Block 11 lower tier on Friday, then Block 4 upper tier on saturday and sunday. Feel free to speak to me. There won't be that many White people wearing glasses with brown hair wearing a BC t-shirt in that area!!

Sorry for late reply, was out for last minute shopping before I leave Dubai. No worries yannie, just be here and I'll show you around. You have my number and I have yours, if you don't see me, just give me a buzz. I'll come over and pick you up. Bring you around and give you a tour. I might be playing baddy in the bowel of the NIA or in the NIA, but I'll contact you beforehand. Do you want lunch before going around? Anyways, we'll decide on the day. For all BC members going to AE, I reckon we should group up at a corner somewhere sometime. Then whoever is there will be known as a BC member. For a start I say shall we gather say near the Wilson booth? There's a massive racquet there last year. We should even get phone numbers so that we can miss call each other, a sign to group up near the booth. Say perhaps 12pm everyday? We can amend the timing as we go along. Then we can have a group pic~

Good idea:D! Although I was thinking you were gonna say the Yonex booth rather than the Wilson one, since Yonex's the no. 1 in badminton equipment & AE main sponsors:p. Hopefully will be able to make it that time, as I'll be travelling down to Birmingham from manchester on saturday morning.

Hahaha, the reason I chose the WIlson booth is not because I have anything against Yonex or because I playa for Sotx. Its because There are quite a few Yonex booths, 3 if I'm not mistaken. 2 are Centralsports shop and the other is a booth selling shoes and racquets. This is be rather confusing. As there is only 1 Wilson booth and there's a big blue racquet, I don't think anyone will miss it, hence that booth~ (no, Wilson is not playing me for this~!:p )
If anyone is late or whatsoever, perhaps we can have a headcount? Or I can suggest other timing say 1pm? But definitely not on semi and finals, they start early. I want a good seat for those days. And maybe we linger around for at least 30 - 45 minutes? This gives ample opportunity for everyone to arrive and meet up, plus its everyday~ so no rush and drive carefully~!

Aarrgghh~! So many grammar and spelling mistakes in my previous post~! Was rushing to go off and meet my dad and buy some souveniers before leaving Dubai later today. Sorry....
Well, if we're making the Wilson booth as a meeting point from the first day, why not keep it that way? Perhaps we'll amend the time during the semi finals and finals so that we can have enough time to linger around. Gotta start packing now, adios for now~!
And may I add, racquets here are bloody cheap~! Tax free that's why and less shipping charges~ If a NS9000 cost 120 quid, imagine the price here minus tax and less shipping charges. Amazing~! Too bad they don't have Sotx here....

Hi All,
Sorry been off forum for a while.
Anyway, as title says, I'm buying now once sluggish network wakes up.
Decided to go for the first time this year.
Ahhh.. yes the network lives... !!!!
OK> Have bought for the friday.
My reason for buying friday was to see lots of games instead of just 1/2 in the finals (sold out anyway!!)
Tried saturday, but only so-so seats left.
I'm in Block 10: K something with view of courts 1+2
Does anybody now who I'll be seeing over there ? Is there a list of entrants available ?
C U There

If you guys do go to Chinatown for meals, check out Cafe Soya (Should still be there, I hope:p !). They do great soyabean drinks and shakes, "tau fu far" and vietnamese noodle soups! Its my usual lunch place when I was working in Birmingham.
I'm drooling already... :p
Can't wait to go to Chinatown.. Too bad none of the cities in Denmark has Chinatown..

Hi all
I am wondering if you think it's possible to find a week end season, maybe from someone who finally won't be able to go to the AE (i'm a member)
There aren't any week end season left because no sunday tickets left :crying:

I think this sounds like a great idea.
Let me know what you want to do on finals day, i.e. name the time and the place and I will be there. Am really looking forward to meeting some of you guys. :)
Right, so for now, the meeting point everyday will be at the Wilson booth for the entire duration of the championships. From Tuesday till Friday, it'll be 1pm and we might make it earlier on semi and the finals depending on the schedule. From Tuesday till Friday I will be in a red sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes.
Its confirmed now, that if you a cute lil girl tagging along with me it'll be yannie as mei can't make it. I think it is better if we can put down when will be there, so that I won't be waiting alone on that day.

I'm so dissapointed right now :( I really wanted to go to the semi-finals on Saturday but couldn't because it clashed with a local league tourney I was playing but now my tourney's been postponed I can't get tickets for Saturday 'cos they're all sold out :crying:
I might go on either Wednesday or Friday though depending on work, but if anybody does happen to have three spare tickets for Saturday, click that little PM button and let me know ;)

Hi YC (elwin81), do you know anyone from Nottingham will be going apart from yourself? What's time will you be there? I probably reach NIA at around 4:30PM, plan to do some shopping before the match starts, I heard that those badminton equipment manufacturers will only start to introduce their latest products from tomorrow till Sunday as well as clearing some of the old stocks. I did manage to get something at great price in the past. Also, if you want to string your rackets, would recommend to do so because those stringers will use the most advanced stringing machines.
Do you still got my mobile number? I probably don't have yours. Please PM me if you don't mind. Otherwise, do free feel to call me while you are there.
Take care ane see you tomorrow!

So far only have one picture with Malaysian Junior players at the hotel lobby. Will post it later. Tan Chun Seang is damn funny.. Faint. All other Malaysian players nice as well.
Don't really have time to take pictures ah.. Maybe Alvin, Jason will have.
Erm, yesterday planned to have dinner with Cai/Fu at a Chinese restaurant nearby the NIA. Bumped into Rian, Sigit and Frans.. But the Chinese restaurant was overbooked, so we went to eat at a French restaurant instead.
YONEX bags and long jackets everywhere in Birmingham! And since the weather was so good, a lot of players/coaches/officers/fans/volunteers/whatevers go shopping around the NIA. Lots of cafes, shopping centres etc nearby. See all country's players everywhere!!! FAINT.

It is great pleasure to meet up with you guys, Alvin and Elwin81. Saw Yannie but didn't have chance to say hi in person, already know Jason for sometimes so no introduction is needed ;). What I would suggest is for those who lives in UK or Europe we should start to have some gathering by organising something during this coming summer. As I assume most of you guys do play badminton regularly, we can have some friendly badminton matches.
I can sort something out if we have enough people to show their interest.
For those who keen to join, please drops your email to my mailbox and I will start to look into this.
Looking forwards hearing from you!
Cheers!

I was only there on finals day and wasn't sure what time we were supposed to meet at the Wilson stand. I remembered someone saying something about 11:30 but on Sunday they didn't open the doors until 11:30, and then we had to queue to get in.
I thought someone else said something about meeting on the hour, so I was there at 12 but it was deserted. I went back a couple of other times and kept an eye out for Yannie and Jason (who I've seen pictures of) but sadly I missed everyone. I was gutted. :(
I still enjoyed the day though. :)
