Ya, taufik really did a lot of hairpin net shots today ! But LD was making more Unforced errors than usual. I guess this is the third time seeing him losing games while having game points. 1st in MO final against LCW, then the team event against LHI.

5 golds to 4 countries in individual events, so there is healthy competition compared to team events. China still dominates in WD, and XD as well.
There is already a lot said about China's upset in MS and WS. IMO both NSS and draw makes result less predictable and more nail-biting. As a fan that don't favor any one or country, I think this is good for badminton. A shot at gold makes everyone pumped up.
Too bad there is no video uploaded yet for LD vs. TH (team or MSF) yet. WDF and XDF also seems to be a close match from scoring.
I think AG2006 will be a game to remember for fans.

I do agree, more errors will be made when opponents are playing good badminton. Although KKK's pair played no better than yesterday, that was enough for them to bring back the gold.

he made a better pair with koo kien keat...i think
although tan boon heong not bad though
It seems to me that CCM/KKK pair have been "saturated". I doubt the pair could go any further should they resume their partnership. On the other hand, both KKK and TBH are young and there is a lot of space for them to pursue more honors. We still remember how the later Soon Kit/Kim Hock pair eventually outshone earlier, already respectable Soon Kit/Beng Kiang pair. Be patient. It won't take long for KKK/TBH to do the same to the former (?) CCM/KKK pair.
Quick question: Chandra/Sigit vs. Chandra/Tony ... which pair is better? Still remember the chronological order of their pairings?

This case is different cause Tony is a genius. He won the world championship with different partners. KKK/TBH still a long way to go, but of course I hope your prediction comes true !! No harm done for us right ?

IIRC ........
up to 1998 : Candra/Sigit (they won WC in 1997)
after 1998 - 2001 : Candra/Tony (they won AE1999 n Olympics 2000)
2001 - retired (2006, Thomas Cup) : Candra/Sigit (they won AE 2003)
after Thomas Cup 2006 - now : Candra/Tony (they won Japan Open 2006)
Candra/Sigit was split due to Sigit got banned from IBF in 1998 for 2 years.
Quick question: Chandra/Sigit vs. Chandra/Tony ... which pair is better? Still remember the chronological order of their pairings?

Well, I was predicting that KKK/TBH will become another Soon Kit/Kim Hock, not Tony/Chandra. It would be even bolder to predict KKK becoming another Tony eventually, but we shouldn't rule out such a slim possibility because he is still young.
The interesting question that I asked before ... Tony/Chandra vs. Sigit/Chandra - which is a better pair if they have the chance to play each other in a fantasy world?

There were a lot more pairs at the same level at their prime (e.g., I still remember the four top pairs in the world during my school days who ruled the MD scene for more than 5 years - Joo Bong/Moon Soo [they were the Tony/Chandra pair of their time], Sidek bros, Bingyi/Yongbo & Gunawan/Hartono) ... but for the time being, we are talking about the present top pairs.

Hi All,
Taufik the better player on the world.
Taufik Skill batter than all other players. The Asian Games Individual Single Final 2006, The mentality is better than Lin Dan..
So Notes:
- If Taufik got motivation, nobody player can beat him.
- If Taufik no personal and family problems, nobody player can beat him.
- If taufik can leave the smoking and improve stamina, nobody player can beat him.
In Asean Games Single: Taufik beat Bao C, LCW and Lin Dan... So Fantastic..... He beat the Top Players...
important for him to beat lin dan (the arogant player)...hhhaaaa
so After won, Taufik going to LYB (Lin Dan Head Coach) and hand shake..It is very good attitude....nobody do it before.......It is not arogant.......

Hi All,
Now, Taufik targets to take All England and Olimpic.... The All Important award got already.. (Asian Games-2times, Olimpic, and World)...
only 2 players got 2times Asian Games Title: Zoa Jian Hua and Taufik Hidayat.
Taufik Hidayat take Asian Games Titles: 2002 and 2006.
I think Taufik Ranking will be good.. Maybe from 11 to 5/6.

Although I am a big fan of Tony, I still think that Chandra/Sigit matches are more exciting to watch. Sigit liked to do a lot of fancy stuff compared to Tony, who is a more steady player.
There's another good Indo double player called Halim. Anyone recall the AE2001 final where Tony/Halim beated Chandra/Sigit in 3 sets?

My apology. The XD pair should be Kim Dong Moon + Ra Kyung Min. The XD pair seemed to outshine the MD pair of Tae Kwon/Dong Moon (although they used to be World No.1 MD pair anyway).

I'm not "pushing" you to show some proof(s), but to share with you, i had actually asked Taufik's coaches(coach Joko, Richard & Mulyo himself) and his teammates(some of them) specifically on this small issue in last yr's World Championships(yes, i was one of the Liaison Officer for team Indonesia)...;)
Their answers are "NO, he doesn't smoke". I also didn't notice him smoking in any way nor at any time nor smelled any tobacco on him. To add, me and a couple other BC/BF members also had a get-together(took them to dinner prior to the start of the competition) with the INA team last yr during the WC; if you want more infos, you can check/do a search in the 2005 World Championships sub-forum/threads and the Pictures with Players (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24072) thread. However, you are right though, his coach, Mulyo does smoke as i saw him puffed his cigs a couple of times.
So, either all of them were not telling the truth to me or he simply doesn't smoke. ;)

But, I think Malaysian do not let the euphoria too long. Of course, KKK/TBH need to work hard. However, it's premature to argue that they are inconsistent. The new pair has only participated in three international competitions and only lost twice in 13 matches that they played. Even the formidable Tony/Chandra is not 100% unbeatable - they were stopped at the quarterfinal stage by Fu/Cai at HK Open this year. During the early stage of their partnership in late 1990s, plenty of pairs used to beat Tony/Chandra (e.g., Soon Kit/Tan Fook [twice], Tan Fook/Wan Wah, Jens/Jesper, Ha/Kim [thrice], Jim/Michael [twice], Dong Soo/Yung Sung, Ricky/Rexy). If KKK/TBH are inconsistent now with the two lost matches in mind, so were Tony/Chandra then.

..hmm, i just re-watch the TH vs LD's match, and from my own feeling, it seemed like LD didn't really want to win...Esp. in the 1st set, he was just not aggressive enough, seemed "lazy" to put forth full effort...It's very uncharacteristic of him(with all the unforced errors he made), thruout the game, seemed like LD was just reacting and playing in some "practice session". And esp. the last winning shot to Taufik, it seemed like LD just gave that point easily for him...  ;)
But what do you all think are the chances all the CHN singles players didn't win in the individual events(ie. XXF, ZN, LD)...It seemed like they just didn't care or don't want to win the individual events. Since it's only an AG and there is/are no money prizes. I know i'm gonna get some criticism(s) for saying this, but I even heard of some silly mumblings that maybe, maybe, just maybe Taufik "paid" LinDan to give him the title....Again, that's just some silly mumblings i've heard...  :p

yes, your observation concurs with mine.
i didnt watch the zhang ning match but XXF sure look sluggish, lacks motivation and drive. In additon to my previous comment on why LD lost, LD continue its mistake of inviting net play with TH on the 2nd set.
I think TH made commitment to a AG gold because i have no doubt that TH would had been promised of a 'significant' financial reward for this outcome or else he wouldn't put so much effort into it. Given that all the big guns (xxf, zn, LD, fu/cai) fail to play at their usual standards, i think the chinese players knew they have exceeded previous AG 3 gold with 4 now, and likely with no or insignicant financial reward, and have no bearing on WBF ranking, why go all out on individual event? Hmm, the chinese players, it seem, are not that dumb after all;)
I do not believe the man TH would play this hard for no tangible gain, be it WBF ranking status and/or $$.

I think this could very well be the case considering Taufik's status as the son in law of head of ISC(INA sports council) and the 'unexplained' handshake and friendly approach from Taufik to LYB.
The little argument from LYB and LD at the end of the match could be that LD almost screwed the LYB's agreement eventhough LD dying for the GOLD and didn't have the heart to throw important match like that. :crying: :crying:
However, if this is really happening, the idea could very well came from Agum himself and TH was just the mediator, he is in the final and there's only 1 more step for a GOLD. As Agum is retiring, AG gold medals must be significant to him personally and for the sake of his reputation. A few grands for a gold is nothing much to him, I believe
Just an opinion, what do u guys think?

hmm, i think u r onto something, the prize might be even bigger than just money;) TH did publicly say that he would like to win a gold for his father in law. Second, it is highly unusual for TH to walk over to the china bench to shake their hands given what feeling he has of LD and LYB, unless he want to show the INA politicans of his mediating skills:D

...hmm, and if i recall, there was a report(as mentioned in this sub-forum, but forgot exactly where, maybe from ants' report) that following the match, LinDan refused to do a Media Press conference. Leaving Taufik to do all the press conference all by himself and at the same time, when asked by reporters, prompted Taufik to say, "Yeah, ask him why he doesn't want to come"...hmm:rolleyes: ;)
But funny thing is, when the camera was panning in the area of XXF and LDS a few times, i saw 2 different body demeanors. One, XXF of interest and seemed to be engrossed in the actions and two, whilst LDS more in a "hmm, something doesn't seem right in this match" demeanor; with a 'thoughtful' look w/ his hand on his cheek..

Not by memory lah! I've been recording selected top MS & MD players' head-to-head results since 1996 while the Internet were still new to most of us and certainly no IBF website as our reference. Here are what I have in my database (perhaps incomplete),
lost to Soon Kit/Tan Fook twice
- Korea Open '99 (11-15, 13-15)
- Chinese Taipei Open '99 (one week after Korea Open!) (16-17, 6-15)
lost to Tan Fook/Wan Wah
- Konica Cup '99 (7-15, 15-14, 12-15)
lost to Jens/Jesper
- Thomas Cup '00 final stage (at semi-final) (15-8, 15-17, 16-17)
lost to Tae Kwon/Dong Moon thrice
- Japan Open '99 (15-17, 15-3, 11-15)
- World Championships '99 (15-12, 7-15, 10-15)
- All England '00 (12-15, 5-15)
lost to Dong Soo/Yung Sung twice
- All England '98 (10-15, 10-15)
- Korea Open (7-15, 15-8, 14-17)
lost to Ricky/Rexy
- Indonesia Open '99 (12-15, 8-15)

Congratz for all GOLD Medalist -- CHN(2) ; MAS(1) ; HKG(1) and last but not least our bad-boy, you're very smart to win in the right time!
