Rumour: 3 out of the 6 Malaysian Junior MS (Tan Chun Seang, Lim Kenn, Chong Wei Feng, Liew Daren, Beryno Wong, Chong Li Qun) will probabably compete in German Open.

It will be confirmed after Chinese New Year.. But who knows if BAM will change their mind in the last minute, like last time with Dutch Open 2006 - supposed to send their junior players, but canceled.

There will be some bloody massacres at German Open...

MS: Lin Dan 1st seed, Chen Yu 2nd, 3rd is Lee Tsueng Seng, LD & CY will eat alive their respective halves..

WS: XXF 1st seed, but got Xu & Pi for company, won't be as bad as MS

MD: Jung & Lee 1st seed, Some HK pair second seed, I can smell blood on the court already, LJJ/HJM is there to make final interesting

WD: China 3rd & 4th pairs + Lee/Lee, so more of a contest

MX: NE/NR 1st seed, Some French pair 2nd, and GL/ZB lurking in the dark, carnage all the way to final, except maybe against LYD + (Kor) pair...

Greetings,

Wong Choong Hann wants to do well @German Open 2007.

I just received this article today.

WCH's comments, found in this article, will explain that his main aim is to qualify for the World Championships @KL, Malaysia 2007.

============ start article ============

New Straits Times
17 Feb 2007
K.M. Boopathy

Badminton German Open: Choong Hann's journey begins

WONG Choong Hann has targeted, at the very least, the semi-finals of the German Open on Feb 27-March 4 in order to boost his chances of qualifying for the World Championships in August.

http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/nst/Saturday/Sport/20070217085732/badmin.JPG Choong Hann, currently ranked World No 70, has set the target despite realising that World No 1 Lin Dan of China and his compatriot Chen Yu, ranked World No 7, are the top two seeds in the grand prix tournament.

Lin Dan is using the German Open as a warm-up before launching a bid to win his third All-England title, when the super series event is staged on March 6-11.

However, it is an entirely different scenario for the 30-year-old Choong Hann as a semi-final berth would give him a chance to play in probably his last World Championships in Kuala Lumpur, which will be held in Putra Stadium on Aug 13-19.

Choong Hann is confident of overcoming all the players but Lin Dan as he is a cut above the rest.

"I have to do well in the German Open as Lin Dan and Chen Yu are the only top 10 players around. If I can make the last four or better, my chances of playing in the World Championships will become better," said Choong Hann.

"I’m quite confident of beating the other players, including Chen Yu, but playing Lin Dan will be a different challenge. He is very dominant and it takes a special effort to stop him.

"But I’m not thinking too much about a match against him as my intention in Germany is to do well.

"I need to gain sufficient points in Germany as my place in the World Championships is at stake. If I miss it, I may not get another chance to play in the major event anymore."

Other recognised players who are seeded in the top eight are third seed Lee Tsuen Seng of Malaysia, fifth seed Ng Wei of Hong Kong, sixth seed Joachim Persson of Denmark, another Malaysian Sairul Amar Ayub, seeded seventh, and eighth seed Bjoern Joppein of Germany.

The task has already been made easier for the unseeded Choong Hann who has gained a straight entry into the main draw.

Should Choong Hann and Lin Dan end up in different halves of the draw, the former has a good chance of making it all the way to the final.

However, Choong Hann will have to play in the qualifying rounds of the All-England and the Swiss Open on March 13-18 as only 28 players gain automatic inclusion into the main draw.

If Choong Hann makes it past the preliminary rounds of both tournaments, he could well be on his way to the World Championships.

Choong Hann is the only Malaysian singles player to have reached the final of the World Championships, which he achieved in 2003, but at 30, respectability is what he will be trying to achieve if he qualifies for the tournament this time.

Cheers... chris@ccc

How bizarre, LD & XXF will compete in small-tourney meanwhile INA only represents by youngsters such as Tommy/Simon/Pia. What's LYB agenda to send his 'first-class' to Germany? As warm-up preparation to AE or another trick?

Back after a long absence :)

Good to see some young Malaysian prospects in the draw, like: Mohd Arif Latif/Vountus Indra Mawan, Lim Khim Wah/Mak Hee Chun and Khoo Chung Kiat/Mohd Razif Abdul Latif.

From INA's side, it's also pleasing to see Tommy Sugiarto, Nitya Krishinda/Nadya Melati, Lita Nurlita/Nathalia Poluakan and Meiliana Jauhari/Shendy Puspa (hmm...is this a Djarum pair?) in the main draw. Some other youngsters like Pia Zebadiah, Lingga/Devin Lahardi, Bona Septano/Mohd Akshan in the qualifying draw.

Let's see how far they can progress...

It's so unfortunate that Lingga/Devin Lahardi will meet their compatriot Bona Septano/Mohd Akhsan in the final qualifying match later. The winner of that match will meet another fellow qualifier (likely to be the World Junior semi-finalist Lim Khim Wah/Mak Hee Chun) tomorrow.

Looking at the MD draw, the new Djarum pair Sigit Budiarto/Frans Kurniawan appears to have no problem entering quarter-final, where a match against either Ashley Brehaut/Aji Basuki Sindoro or Chan Chong Ming/Hoon Thien How beckons.

I agree that Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae will probably take the title here to make it 2 titles in a row for them.
