A first round loser in the Malaysian Open can still afford to smile.
The US$200,000 Malaysian Open is the first leg of the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) Super Series. In the series, even a first round singles loser will go back home with US$300.
Previously, only players who reached the quarter-finals received incentives.
This time, the men’s singles winner will receive the highest prize money of US$16,000 while the mixed doubles champions will get the lowest – US$11,600.
PRIZE MONEY DISTRIBUTION (US$200,000)
Men's singles: Champion (US$16,000), runner-up (US$6,400), semi-finalist (US$2,560), quarter-finalist (US$1,000), last 16 (US$600), last 32 (US$300).
Men's doubles: Champions (US$14,400), runners-up (US$5,760), semi-finalists (US$2,300), quarter-finalists (US$1,000), last 16 (US$800), last 32 (US$600).
Women's singles: Champion (US$13,800), runner-up (US$5,520), semi-finalist (US$2,200), quarter-finalist (US$880), last 16 (US$500), last 32 (US$300).
Women's doubles: Champions (US$12,200), runners-up (US$4,880), semi-finalists (US$1,950), quarter-finalists (US$1,000), last 16 (US$800), last 32 (US$600).
Mixed doubles: Champions (US$11,600), runners-up (US$4,400), semi-finalists (US$1,750), quarter-finalists (US$1,000), last 16 (US$700), last 32 (US$500).
