The National Olympic Committee of Denmark taps two hopeful candidates for winning in Beijing. One of them is Joachim Persson.
Focus and ambition were the common denominators for the country's two premier young sports talents, Caroline Wozniacki and Joachim Persson, as they received awards last Monday recognising their respective talents in tennis and badminton.
In addition to purse money worth DKK 20,000 (EUR 2700), the Emerging Talent Award, sponsored by the National Olympics Committee and Samsung, provided a strong indication the two athletes might represent Denmark at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Joachim: "I really appreciate the support I get from outside. But I am also proud to be one of the Olympic hopes of Denmark. And I wanna do my absolutly best to achieve my goals".
"I only have a short time to prove that I can compete. But progress is going in the right direction," told the 23-year-old currently ranked 15 in the world. "A year ago I was ranked number 50. And I think that one day I will be number one".
