hcyong 01-26-2007, 05:50 AM ZN pulled out of the tournament.
XD
I predict a repeat of the Malaysian Open final.
hcyong 01-26-2007, 06:00 AM For the semifinals, they only use one court. In Malaysia, there were two courts. One court is better, although inevitably there will be a few boring matches. But it would be a disaster if two good matches were to play at the same time. Other SS events should follow Korea Open's planning.
Wildstone 01-26-2007, 06:12 AM :) My predictions:
MD
Tony/Candra v Jung JS/Lee YD
Not gonna happen.
pjswift 01-26-2007, 07:03 AM How much has KKK left in the tank? Would TBH hit more winners than KKK hit unforced errors? KOR MD has beaten them before and can beat them again on account of being fresher and having a MAS coach.
Although Hafiz is H2H 0-3 to CJ, he probably has a better chance playing CJ than LCW.This is CJ's second SS but effectively Hafiz first since he crashed out in R1 of MO07, so Hafiz should still have stamina. He'll play smart like vs CH, ie, win 1st game, lose 2nd game quickly and hopefully have enough left to close in the 3rd. Effectively,it means he plays two games.Let's see what happens tomorrow. In the meantime ,enjoy laughing!
hcyong 01-26-2007, 07:05 AM I think it is very possible that Jung/Lee can beat Tony/Candra. I rate Jung/Lee quite highly. Of course, I rate Tony/Candra a little bit higher, but this is in Korea. Just last week, remember how the home support pushed the home pair to win.

That's a bit dangerous, isn't it? That means he must win 2 out of 2, because he has effectively thrown one game away. On paper, since he beat Chen Hong who beat Chen Jin last week, Hafiz should beat Chen Jin. But we all know it's not like that. Still I rate Hafiz as a potential equal to Chen Jin. It's just that he rarely fulfills his potential. I am already quite happy for him for becoming more himself this time around. Best of luck to him.
Ethan 01-26-2007, 07:55 AM There are 11 semifinalist which are chinese. Somebody has got to do something here.
hcyong 01-26-2007, 08:17 AM There are 11 semifinalist which are chinese. Somebody has got to do something here.
Well, they got there fair and square. The rest of the world will just have to keep trying.
bananaboy 01-26-2007, 09:06 AM On paper, since he beat Chen Hong who beat Chen Jin last week, Hafiz should beat Chen Jin. .
Your example is so bias:p... but that's fine...:p Here is a different view...
On paper, Chen Hong> Chen Jin whom beat Hafiz 3-0 in convincing fashion... Then Shouldn't Chen Hong destroy Hafiz completely even if he's injured???:p
Chen Jin beat LCW> Hafiz... then Chen Jin should destroy Hafiz this time???:D:D:D
Chen Jin will win anyways... Hafiz doesn't play well against people whom rank higher than him unless they are injured...:p
bananaboy 01-26-2007, 09:08 AM There are 11 semifinalist which are chinese. Somebody has got to do something here.
You can't expect them all to give a walkover to everyone else now, can you?:p

Best of luck to him.I like your rating of Hafiz but you are still sceptical of his performance.Rest assured, this time he is gonna prevail. He has almost everything:speed, power, defence, reach and a cool and calm temperament. If he is to get rid of the fancy stuff and stay focus,I would not be at all surprise, that he follows his brother's path to the final of the KO.Then,I wouldn't be surprised his former critics will sing a different tune.Likewise,I wish him all the best.

Typical of you to quote things out of context.
I also think Chen Jin will beat Hafiz but for me, it's not a guarantee like you seem to imply. If Hafiz happens to win, I wonder if you will go the way of some Taufik fans and say Chen Jin is injured. But you've already said Chen Hong is injured so I guess you are not immune to that.
madbad 01-26-2007, 12:33 PM ZN pulled out of the tournament.
Where did you hear this?
hcyong 01-26-2007, 12:38 PM Where did you hear this?
She was in the draw as the top seed. After her withdrawal (and also Jiang Yanjiao's), her place was claimed by Maria Kristin who was PFQ (promoted from qualification).
bad_fanatic 01-26-2007, 12:45 PM It would be nice if we have rematch of the MO men's doubles final.
madbad 01-26-2007, 12:46 PM MD
Kien Keat KOO/Boon Heong TAN - Jae Jin LEE/Ji Man HWANG
The MAS pair have hit a purple patch with further incentive of making it into the top 30
Tony GUNAWAN/Chandra WIJAYA - Jae Sung JUNG/Yong Dae LEE
It'll be close but I can see the Koreans pulling it off. I hope I'm proven wrong
WD
Ling GAO/Sui HUANG - Kyung Won LEE/Hyo Jung LEE
The legends continue to roll
Yawen ZHANG/Yili WEI - Wei YANG/Jiewen ZHANG
Seedings must be followed. This is the LYB rule
XD
Kamilla RYTTER JUHL/Thomas LAYBOURN - Gail EMMS/Nathan ROBERTSON
Nothing will stop the English today
Ling GAO/Bo ZHENG - Yawen ZHANG/Zhongbo XIE
An interesting one. Will there be team orders? I'll call for the senior pair to win
MS
Muhd Hafiz B HASHIM - Jin CHEN
Sticking my neck out. Hafiz is good enough to win. Whether he can, we'll see
Dan LIN - Chunlai BAO
I predict BCL will get some sort of "injury" part way through
WS
Petya NEDELTCHEVA - Lin ZHU
The on-form Zhu to beat the very game Petya
Lan LU - Xingfang XIE
I am going to call for a Lu Lan upset
madbad 01-26-2007, 12:48 PM She was in the draw as the top seed. After her withdrawal (and also Jiang Yanjiao's), her place was claimed by Maria Kristin who was PFQ (promoted from qualification).
I see. I was wondering if anyone knew what type of injury(?) it was
DinkAlot 01-26-2007, 12:48 PM LOL! Are these predictions or who you hope will win? Seems like the latter to me. :p

Chen Jin v Hafiz
Heart wants Hafiz to win. Head knows it will be very difficult.
Good post. Your heart wants Hafiz but like you said, in reality it's going to be tough. I'm confident it'll be a good game though CJ will win. ;) :p
hcyong 01-26-2007, 12:55 PM I see. I was wondering if anyone knew what type of injury(?) it was
Officially, it was the flu that inflicted the team. In MO, quite a number of Chinese players withdrew. In KO, some of them came back, but not all. I guess some of them recovered faster than the rest.
bananaboy 01-26-2007, 02:27 PM Typical of you to quote things out of context.

I quote things out of context because that's the only part I like to comment on.
I am just kidding about Chen Jin winning for sure, as we all know there is no guarantee in badminton or in life. Hafiz's matches are the most entertaining to watch, as you don't know what he will pull out... whether a good performance, or the funniest performance ever(like losing 11+ match points to LHI:p:D:D:D:D)
My entire post was not even serious at all... just wanted to prove that my point of view can be proven true as well using the method you used before.
Geez... you guys need to relax a bit... this is just a forum for fun and expressing ideas.:p:D:D Plus I am not a hardcore fan, and blame the loss of a player on injury... if Chen Jin lose(slim chance though) tomorrow, then it just means Hafiz must have played better.
LOL! :p Banana, you a funny guy...errr...boy! :D
I am glad you know most of my posts aren't serious at all... they are meant to add some fun or tension in the forum.
Peace and quiet in a forum = boring...:p
bananaboy 01-26-2007, 02:56 PM But you've already said Chen Hong is injured so I guess you are not immune to that.
He gave up his semi-final match in Malaysia open... good enough to "suggest" he is injured.:p If you want to argue that point, there are other members in "Injury thread" ready to do that with you, but not me.
hcyong 01-26-2007, 03:01 PM Ah, knew I shouldn't have risen to the bait. Discipline, discipline ...
GunBlade008 01-26-2007, 03:59 PM I'm itching to see Chen Jin vs Lin Dan in the final
bananaboy 01-26-2007, 04:40 PM I'm itching to see Chen Jin vs Lin Dan in the final
Lin Dan has played Chen Jin several occasions before... if they meet again this time, at least we can see Chen Jin going full strength against Lin Dan.
Actually, have we ever seen a Bao vs Chen Jin match before???
More interesting would be Bao vs Hafiz in final... you don't know if Hafiz will do his yo-yo thing, or will Mr. Runner-up live up to his nick-name again...:p
virusvoodoo 01-26-2007, 05:40 PM Actually, have we ever seen a Bao vs Chen Jin match before???
Yes I think so for they have met in the 2005 China Open where in the quarter or semi-final, Bao disposed of Chen Jin, whom had taken out Xia Xuanze in the previous round, but went on to lose to Chen Hong in the final.

Thanks for you information.:D
I am now really anticipating a Mr. Runner-up vs Yo-Yo match in the final... it will be more for entertainment than a technical analysis on my part.:p:D:D:D
spchu 01-26-2007, 07:26 PM Here's a thought:
If Hafiz wins, will China team management ask Bao Chun Lai to concede walkover to Lin Dan?
Tjun Tjun 01-26-2007, 08:04 PM Since there is only 1 court in Korean Open, does that mean Astro will be showing all 10 matches (XD,MS,WS,MD,WD). Or Astro will skip the XD like in Malaysian Open?
Can someone also tell us what is the order of play this afternoon?
spchu 01-26-2007, 08:13 PM Koo Kin Keat and Tan Boon Heong starts at 2 pm (I think Korean time) and Astro listed in their website 1pm the time they start showing the Korean Open matches. So I believe they are going to show all 10 matches.

The MAS pair have hit a purple patch with further incentive of making it into the top 30
With their semi-final appearance in KO, they will at least move up to somewhere between 30th-35th placing on coming Thursday (not much difference if they become the runner-up). However, should they win the KO title, they will break into top-30 - which is going to be an unprecedented achievement (correct me if I'm wrong) as a player or a pair breaking into top-30 within the first three ranking point-offering events that they participate in. Well, even if they lost the semi-final match today, they just need to advance to the quarter-final in their next SS event to break into top-30.

Thanks for the precise info. I kinda knew they were close but you have clarified it. Unprecedented or not, it's pretty damn impressive!

X Ball 01-26-2007, 10:19 PM If you ask me I think Hafiz might win this one. Why ? If you have noticed, the last few matches, he starts off like a rocket. He is learning the 'art of displacing his opponents' by not allowing them to think. Unfortunately, in the past, it saps your energy --- to be able toimplement this kind of fast play, you need to be very fit (anybody who plays badminton knows how much energy is required).
Hafiz must be working hard to get that bit covered -- trying to get very fit. He might just get there with this game, I cannot believe his fitness has not gained lately. So beware, if you predict a loss for him. He is ready to surprise with this 'work-fast' strategy.
You got my backing Hafiz.
LI De Quan 01-26-2007, 10:25 PM My Prediction:

you're absolutely right my fren. he's working on the win 2 lose 1 strategy. In my opinion, he's more talented than our fren LCW, he's got a better harware than LCW, height wise, juz tat he's too lazy and yoyo'ing around sometime. If this time around he got his stamina and fitness sorted out....haha.....he might juz make it again this AE?
CLELY 01-26-2007, 10:32 PM Looks like CHN will create 3 All-CHN-Final for tomorrow match.
MD : the MAS's phenomenal duo vs the combination pair
XD : wanna see the new pair ZB/GL continuing their path into 2nd success after MO last week.
Overall, poor INA especially Sony who almost entered last 4 but FAILED. Bad day for him...

sickgal 01-26-2007, 11:28 PM sigh. we are international badminton lovers, CCTV5 don't cater to us... :(
haha...what to do.. its just too bad...somehow if they say gonna broadcast SF...they should hv start at 2... if they ony intended to show the chinese players games only...make it clear...haha
sickgal 01-26-2007, 11:28 PM so the koreans cruise to final with the 2nd game by 21-19
z3048018 01-26-2007, 11:28 PM can the koreans WD pull an upset? look how the MD played!!!
z3048018 01-26-2007, 11:29 PM sickgal, is it 18 or 19 for the malaysians?
what happened to the Malaysian supporters on BC? i thought i would get some counter-cheering? why so quiet today?
sickgal 01-26-2007, 11:29 PM many many congrats to the korean teams!!! perhaps there'll be 2 koreans team in the final....wakakka..i certainly do not hope so...haha
ye333 01-26-2007, 11:29 PM Really surprising... HJM must be performing 120% this time... I guess KKK/TBH got too excited after winning MO and could not really concentrate. Anyway, waiting for the video!
yessir for korea! 21-10, 21-18
go lee jae jin!
Titan 01-26-2007, 11:29 PM it time to bash KKK/TBH now yiihaa..

cheeyf 01-26-2007, 11:30 PM sigh
i think koreans can read mas game better this time esp w tan kin her as their coachn rexy is not thr
shld get kim her bc
nway nice try in game 2
game 1 is wasted
any1 watching it live in astro?
are d koreans preventing mas fr smashing?
mas shld do more variety of their game instead of always smashing n lifting
can the koreans WD pull an upset? look how the MD played!!!
it is quiet possible. the Chinese WDs hasn't been as solid as they used to be. but their arch-rival the Lee's aren't as strong as when Ra Kyung Min was their partners.

its not MAYBE...they're real late to get warm up in the 1st game...far way behind from the usual performance sincee AG...
**KZ** 01-26-2007, 11:32 PM actually there are not many ppl in the stadium....very little compared to the M'sain open.....KKK/TBH made many mistakes and they were just like not interested in the game at all.....there were a few bad line calls as well.....too bad.....don't think there'll be any M'sians in the final tommorow...unless Hafiz springs a surprise.......

ye333 01-26-2007, 11:35 PM Hehe. Maybe the Korean line judges hate Mas players because LTS surprisingly eliminated their number one LHI... :-)

it is possible. but all badminton halls are like that. you will find that while the audience are also lit, the random patterns formed by the clothing makes a nice background that highlights the white shuttle well. visibility is never a problem.
ye333 01-26-2007, 11:36 PM Since last week I think. :D

No matter how fantastic KKK/TBH are, LCW is still the MAS badminton star. The moment LCW goes out, so does 80% of MAS fans.
And I want to thank Abedeng for the fabulous commentating yesterday from sheer imagination. Will have to wait for LCW to play to get that treat again.
z3048018 01-26-2007, 11:47 PM i noticed that....maybe because they are increasing in age each year (don't like the word starting with the letter "o")

It's KKK's 18th match in maybe 10 or 11 days! There's only so much the body can hold up. Don't think TBH/KKK can win another title unless KKK drops XD or lose the first XD match, in which case , why bother about XD?

azabaz_ipoh 01-27-2007, 12:05 AM i think koo/tan can be one of the top pairs. and i never expect them to win everytime they play so i am ok with their defeat today. only thing is i dont know how they played since i see no visual. so if they did their best i still say well done. and i support all malaysian players that play well. not just LCW. actually, not until recently did i pay attention to local badminton again and the last two years LCW won the malaysian open. so not, i dont think the fans will not support the malaysian team now that LCW is not playing up to mark. GO MALAYSIA!
do you know any software can provide us SBS SPORT?

KBS1/2 is showing korean soap and korean singing.
