World Championship 07 Who is GOING [Archive] - Badminton Central Discussion Forums

It will be a long 2 weeks of fun and excitement. However i need to know who will be going to attend and what dates. Those from overseas are welcome to have their name listed here.

For those who is CONFIRM going can put their name on the CONFIRM list as early as now. However if you are not sure you can change to TENTATIVE anytime.

Please put your name on the TENTATIVE list if you are not sure or still planning to attend the World Championship. If you are CONFIRM you can remove your name from the TENTATIVE LIST and add your name in the CONFIRM LIST.

If the number is good, i will arrange A special gathering/activity, thus i need to know roughly how many people will be going to attend the WC in Kuala Lumpur. However i will post the details of the gathering when the WC event is near.

Ants, do you know the starting date for the WC07. Currently, some of us are planning a trip back but need to know the start and final date to book flight to Malaysia and also plan accomodation.

On that note, ants, count me in as TENTATIVE, in coming to the WC; as of right now, it's still 50-50..;)

Definitely sounds exciting!!:D:cool:...If and if in case kwun can't go and when i'm confirmed to go, perhaps he and i can get in touch so the BC banner that was used nearly 3 yrs. ago can be brought back and we can put it up during the WC and the get-together event...;):D:cool:

Depending on what Ants has in store for us, I may stay longer, but tentatively I will not want to miss Aug 17-19 (QF, SF & F?)

I'm not familiar with the MRTs in KL. However it is not complicated to take MRT to Bukit Jalil. The Bukit Jalil Station is just walking distance to the Stadium.

actually it is quite easy 2 go 2 d stadium fr bukit bintang.

u can check this site:

u can take KL monorail (blue line) fr bukit bintang to hang tuah.then walk to Hang Tuah STAR LRT station. or u can just walk straight from bukit bintang to the Hang Tuah STAR LRT station.
it is quite near-around 5-10 minute walk.

then from hang tuah, take the STAR LRT (green line) straight to bukit jalil
i will use LRT 2 go there also :)

Unfortunately, due to my profound commitment to Badminton coaching, I would not be able to attend.

But, some of our CCC Badminton players have been talking about attending, and they are Kim, BadFever, Chan Kong, yschin, etc......

I will inform them about this thread and they can add in their own names to the list.

It's good to find that Maz has already put her name down in the Tentative List. :):):)
BTW, we have not heard from adelina76 @BC for 6 months now...... hope that she is OK.

According to BAM, there won't be any tickets for WC until June 2007. That's when BAM will start discussing about organising the event. Pricing of tickets has not even been determined yet, so not to mention sales of tickets :p

BAM may try to have online sales ticket or selling thru State BAs. However, all not sure yet. Not discussed yet. :D

yaya it's Samsung support group.. i got see their catalogue last time during MO.. there's member ship fees.. but they will go and support malaysia teams in not only the events held in malaysia but also other international events..

be aware that this thread is about BC members getting together in the WC. if you look at the list, we have an international group of badminton fan attending. do you expect them to go dress up like a malaysian supporter? i don't think so. so please keep the whole group in mind when you make suggestions like that, otherwise you will risk alienating some of the members.

No man, we are still under WC Topic :) My Goodness, all the way from USA, it will be much cheaper to get in Malaysia isnt? Moreover, how if some of them r not going>>?? Few issues we need to take note :-

(1) Payment
(2) How to pass the Materials
(3) Transportation
(4) Confirm Attendance
...and only if kwun likes and approves the idea, then:
#1 will be handled/figured out/sorted out by him. #2 will be arranged by whoever will come from U.S. #3 & #4 will be handled by our 'honorary host' or you guys local M'sian BCers(if you're talking about how to transport the t-shirts to the get-together etc.)...:cool:
Btw, i would expect all if not most of the people in the 'Confirm'" list to show up and convene together; you know, we don't want to disappoint our ants..;) :cool:

well, u shouldnt said angela like that.. i dun think what she said intended to alienate or try to get all the people to supprt MAS players.. thats not her meaning..she's just giving some suggestions and voice up her confusion..
what she means is, maybe other BCer who might at the same time are the member of MAS fans club might wana gather together with the BCer as a group.. is that allowed?? thats why she said, she scare too much banners (supporter's owned banners + BC's banner) if together might caused distraction or might block the view of the audience.. i hope u are clear about that..i think ur words are abit too sarcastic and i hope u can take back your words.. sorry..but no offense.. jz my 2 cents;)

There will be two opposing contingents of supporters in the WC, i.e. Malaysia and Indonesia. The atmostphere will be loud, noisy, and highly partisan. Any other support or cheer groups will be overwhelmed, perhaps ignored. There is a high probability that the Malaysians and the Indonesians sitting under the BC banner may split into two opposing camps, which will be interesting.

I was lost in the land below the wind (KK in Sabah) for a few days but managed to see the finals of the Asian Championship in Johor Bahru. I then went off to S'pore, KL, Pahang, and Penang, all in all for 2 weeks. Strange as it may seem I introduced a variant of the Indian Chapatti unleavened bread to a few Indian (Mamak) restaurants in KL and Penang, called Tandoorie chapatti. It would hurt their Naan business, another less healthy Tandoorie bread (leavened). The Hawkers food in KL and Penang were rubbish, by my standards. The worse food you can get is in Jalan Alor in KL. What utter rubbish they serve there. However, the Port View seafood restaurant in KK has excellent food, on par with the very top restaurants in Hong Kong and better than the average Hong Kong restaurant.
I will be at the World Championships in KL but would not want to join any camp. I prefer to watch and study the actions of the crowds, as well as the players.

However, the Port View seafood restaurant in KK has excellent food, on par with the very top restaurants in Hong Kong and better than the average Hong Kong restaurant.
I will be at the World Championships in KL but would not want to join any camp. I prefer to watch and study the actions of the crowds, as well as the players.
...and watch the WC, taneepak..but hope, if you don't want to join us BCers in watching the matches, you can join us for the get-together...;)

Yes, that is the infamous place Jalan Alor. Loh, believe me, the food there is horrendous! It is a tourists' fools paradise. The Penang fried keow Tiow, Laksa, Prawn mee, Thai Tom Yam prawn soup, etc are utter rubbish.
Even in Penang the good old hawkers food is now history. The newer hawkers food in Malaysia is a far cry from the old.
I was taken out by Singaporeans when in Singapore and friends and relatives in KL, Johor Bahru, Penang-and they are all locals-to no less than 30 meals in all. The British Club in Singapore serves food that is even worse!
From my two weeks of eating in Malaysia here is my verdict :
1. Excellent : Port View (sea food) in Kota Kinabalu. Pricey by Malaysian standards (about MR150 for two). For tea and coffee, a 24 hours Indian restaurant near the Hotel Holiday in Kota Kinabalu, which also has above average Indian food.
The famous Ipoh white noodles (sar ho fun) is stiil the crown jewel, then (fifty years ago) and now.
2. Good : An Indian restaurant in the Bangsa area in KL (Malaysia's Lan Kwai Fong).
3. Average : A popular outdoor restaurant in Johor Bahru (saw Lee Wan Wah there having dinner after his win in the Asian MD), only for their fried mee hoon, but their crabs were rubbish.
4. Disappointing : Almost all other hawkers food, especially at Jalan Alor.

You can actually find out for yourself how bad the Laksa in Malaysia has now become. All you need to do is to go to a good Vietnamese restaurant or a Singaporean or Malaysian run restauant serving good Laksa, in Sydney and try out their Laksa and then go to Malaysia to try the very best there. You will be in for a shock at the staggering difference, the land of the original Laksa being put in the shade by its so called copycats. The difference is in the ingredients-herbs and fresh prawns and shrimps.

When I come for the WC I may get hold of Kenny Goh, the new general manager of BAM, to buy me the best hawkers food he knows. I don't think he knows what he is in for as I am a very disappointed Malaysian (of hawkers food) who will be very skeptical. BTW, I have not met Kenny Goh yet. He is the son of my small circle of best friends, Goh Mui Choon, whom I had lunch with in Bentong on April 23. I will talk to his old man first and then call Kenny to issue him a challenge.

Even the Indian or Mamak restaurants in Malaysia are sub standard now compared with the old days. The reason is mainly due to the difficulty in importing quality Indian cooks from India. Those Indian cooks born and trained in Malaysia do not know how to cook real Indian food. For example, the average roti chenai there is very poor.
For those in Kota Kinabaru-Jug8man can try this out and report back-go and try a roti chenai with dalh from the 24 hrs Indian restaurant near the Hotel Holiday at Segama Comlex, and then compare it with all the other Indian restaurants in town. If the food in Ko Pi Tiam is not free how do you rate their food? Btw since you are from HK, what restaurant or place that you can recomend that serve the best based on your years of experience eating there?

For wontan noodles there are two restaurants on Hong Kong island and one in Jordan, kowloon. I cannot remember their names but they all sound like Mak Ngan Kei or Mak Yee Kei. There is another one in Jordan that is less good, but at half the price, it is very good value for money.
For cheap and good food, try those stores that sell barbecued pork, char siew, chicken, etc with rice at the front of the shop with a table or two at the rear of the shop, in Mongkok. There is a hotel in Mongkok that is a favourite of Malaysians, Singaporeans and Philippinos, and from this hotel you can go on trying the various barbecued pork, chicken, ducks shops.
For dim sum, for the very best go to the Penisular hotel. Nothing beats it. It is expensive but the dim sums are out of this world. If you have not eaten dim sum at the Penisular you will never know how impossibly good dim sums can be.
There are also a few Lei Yuen restaurants, one in Mongkok and another one in Yau Ma Tei, that serve excellent food. They have a branch in Singapore but the high prices there put it beyond the reach of many. Another high class restaurant is the Fook Lam Moon.
Or you can try the inexpensive Yeung Kei Siew Chow Wong in Shum Shui Po, 89, G/F, Kwai Lum street, a place where hong Kong politicians frequent.
I have a friend who runs a family restaurant for private guests in Hong Kong, but the prices are high and the quality is very good. He used to work for me as a computer manager.
But the best seafood is at the Port View restaurant in Kota Kinabalu. The key to the excellent quality is the high purity and unpolluted taste of the fish there. In Hong Kong and Malaysia most fish taste polluted, some so bad that you can taste kerosene. In Hong Kong the best fish can only be found in expensive restaurants.

I agree completely with TaneePak regarding Peninsular's Dim Sum!! They are really out of this world.. and more money out of my pocket too.. but really they are delicious and taste great. The only dim sum that had a similar taste is in a restaurant in London which i've tried 2 years ago. Forgot the name but they are equally good.

Err... about this, Peter-Gade did gave away his shirt and his racquet to the fans when he win the Malaysian Open 2007 this year. If hoping for the chinese player to gave away their shirts or racquet, i think is a slim chance.

emm...:rolleyes: Actually i would like to take some picture with some chinese player, but the chances look like very slim. One of my friend did say that when you want to take picture with either Bao Chunlai or Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng, Bao will say, Sorry, i'm in a hurry. Cai/Fu will say, Sorry, we're chasing for the bus. In the Malaysian Open earlier this year, i was trying to take picture with Lin Dan but he's warming up himself before he lose to Park Sung-hwan in the 1st round. I'm so sorry if i have say something wrong that might hurt someone else... Sorry...
