I'm glad to have the chance to watch world class players play up close. Tony Gunawan and Howard Bach paired up in the 2nd game of exhibition match. Bob and Chandra jumped smashed much more often, but Tony and Howard gave excellent demo. of defense and won. Howard is also a big jump smasher. Tony was very relaxed and kept his smile throughout the match, even when they were behind in the beginning of 2nd set. About 200 people were watching the game, including many young people. A few things I noticed:
* Tony held his racket in the middle of of grip for defense.
* Strong backhand drive is very useful in MD fpr 3rd shot when your side is serving.
* It's hard to read their shot most of the time. They seem to hold their racket for a split second in prep. for front court shot before hitting, maybe giving them option to change the shot.
* They all have very strong calf and leg muscles.
* Their jump smashes were really loud. My smash is only as loud as WS finalists. Hmm...
* Their shots hit the tape (and over) at least 3 times in each game, probably more.
I saw GGBC staff taping the match and all finals, so maybe we can see them later.

Is it really true that they are studying Computer Science? Can someone from Google give these guys a job ;), when they are done with their professional badminton career, of course. We can use a legendary coach up here in N. Cal. :D

..mettayogi, thanks for the recap...Well, all of those can be contributed to a couple of things: practice and strong wrist. Tons of practice/training for the last 3 points and strong wrist esp. for points #2 & #3..If you have strong wrist you can control the shot you'll make(may it be short or long, hard or soft or straight or cross court). And your opponent won't know what kind of shot(s) you'll be making.
As for what Halim is currently studying, hmm, that i'll have to find out in the near future. Or if other OCBC locales might know??..;)

Any pictures or videos of the exhibition match?
GGBC will be providing videos of most of the games for our members to rent for free, but for Non Members we will be charging a $5.00 charge to make the videos, which can be kept, but with full copyright reserved. Thank you. We will post on here when those videos can be availablel! :D If you want photos, Kwun at 16feathers.com will have some available for a very reasonable sum I believe is that right Kwun? :D

yes, we already have photos posted in www.16feathers.com (http://www.16feathers.com) for the exhibition match. it was tough taking pictures of the match, firstly it was really really fast, secondly, i really prefer to watch the match through my eyes instead of through the viewfinder!
Joseph, you should've come watch, it was quite an entertaining match.
