I was really impressed by this 17 yeras old yungster when he won the Swedish International (Where he beat some really strong Dansih players).

He have a tough draw, after qualifying, in German Open, against #2 seed Chen Yu... But Kenichi can very well be a top star in a few year!!

i love Shintaro Ikeda... he is very nice and polite! i met him in the malaysia open 2007.. i saw him then i call his name(Ikeda) and he look at me with a very pleasant smile then bow to me.. i guess he wanted to thanks us for supporting him...the person sitting behind me even misunderstand that he's a friend of mine! this shows how friendly he was that time!until ppl thought i know him~haha...most of the japanese are polite..

Between them, Shintaro Ikeda and Shoji Sato have more on-court energy than a pair of Pratt & Whitney engines.
It's amazing to see their permanent enthusiasm.
They always remember to smile, even when losing.

In general, the Japanese and Korean players are quite a cheerful lot.
(Sho Sasaki and Park Sung-Hwan are exceptions - they frown most of the time.)
It helps to be enormously pretty as well - like Miyuki Maeda ;)

A great many players take off their smiles the moment they enter the court.
Ikeda, Sato, Maeda, Keita Masuda, Kumiko Ogura, Reiko Shiota, Peter Gade, Lee Jae-Jin, Lee Yong-Dae, Jung Jae-Sung, Gao Ling, Zhou Mi, etc are a welcome difference from the dour faces of Chen Jin, Cai Yun, Tine Rasmussen, Martin Lundgaard, Lin Dan, Hafiz Hashim, Guo Zhengdong, etc.

Of course, a few players are also prone to quite a bit of nervous laughter.
Donna Kellogg is a prime example.

Mm, I guess it's just a way to identify players in a particular company. Like how there's an ongoing "inter-company" badminton tournament in Japan, there can be quite a handful of players representing one company. With numbers indicated on their jerseys, I reckon it's easier to recognise them.

Good players might make good coaches. This is what Japan is banking on, after announcing that Kanako Yonekura and Keita Masuda will join the coaching force after their long career as players.

But the biggest surprise was a name missing in the men’s single squad, as Shoji Sato, long time top player in his home country, doesn’t appear in the list given out to the press.



After the National Championships, where he was beaten in the final by young and promising player Kenichi Tago, Shoji Sato didn’t take the offer of staying in the team. “I would like to try to be a double players and maybe qualify for London Olympics as http://www.badzine.info/images/stories/News_bzi/Japan09-Sato.jpgsuch, but I don’t decide on the details” said the Japanese. His coaches, however, have since expressed that this solution might not be an option. As a result of which, his name doesn't appear anywhere.

The men’s double squad sees off top pair of Ohtuska and Masuda with new comers Kenta Kazuno and Kenichi Hayakawa who were runners-up of the All Japan Championship this year, beating Ohtsuka / Masuda.

Another Sato will be arriving in the squad however, in the ladie's single team, with Sayaka Sato, the new pearl of Japan Badminton who stunned everyone by scooping the silver medal at the recent World Junior Championships. Yu Hirayama wasn’t selected, but instead, another youngster in the name of Masayo Nojirino (photo below). The teenager was winner in the All Japan Workforce Championship this year.

Regardless who they will be partnering next, Reiko Shiota and Kumiko Ogura’s names where on the official list of selected players. So were Maeda and Suetsuna, last Olympics Games semi finalists, but the latter announced she wouldn’t go all the way to London’s Olympics.

Er, I think we were talking about Sayuri Asahara, and not Misaki Matsutomo. The post was actually dated last year. Sayuri was around for the Grand Prix Gold in JB in July 2010. This thread is for Japanese players ex-Misaki, since she has her own thread :). Blurry D's bounteous emotions for Misaki has somehow overflowed to this thread from the other one :D.

Poor Megumi. There are only 6 places for singles in the A team. It's really competitive. Also, the players in the B team are very good. Like Nozomi Okuhara and Sayaka Takahashi. Riichi was born in Saga-ken on 28 July 1989. He is 21 now. He is now a third year student of Keiwa College. He is not that famous actually... That's why I am very surprised by his performance in NZIC.
