BIRMINGHAM, March 8 (Bernama) -- Asian Games gold medallists Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong pulled out all the tricks to beat the Indonesian crack pair of Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto in their All England men's doubles second round match at the Birmingham National Indoor Arena here Thursday.

The Malaysian duo, seeded eighth in the tournament, engaged into attacking mode right from the start and never allowed the Indonesians to settle down, eventually winning 22-20, 21-15 in straight sets.

Using high-fives to fire themselves up, the Malaysians showed a lot of aggression, determination and even arrogance that drew applause from the crowd time and time again.

"The idea was to keep attacking as Hadiyanto and Yulianto are dangerous when allowed room to dictate the pace. The game plan worked to perfection today although we did made some mistakes," Kien Keat told Bernama after the match.

The match was a repeat of the Asian Games final, which was won by the Malaysian duo.

This is their debut as a pair in the tournament and now they await the winner of the match between Indonesia's Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan and South Korea's Han Sang-hoon/Yoo Yeon-seong to know who they will have to face in the quarter-final next.

"I have played in the All England three times before and never made it past the second round, so this is certainly a milestone for me and my partner Boon Heong," added Koo.

But while the pair showed tons of determination, perseverance and endurance, former All England champion Hafiz Hashim produced a lacklustre performance to go down 11-21, 14-21 to Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia.

In an earlier match, defending men's singles champion and world number one Lin Dan of China ended the fairy tale run of Indonesian qualifier Simon Santoso with a 21-14, 21-18 win.

Santoso who dashed Wong Choong Hann's dreams of competing in the All England and who beat another Malaysian Lee Tsuen Seng yesterday, found the Chinese player in his element although he had to go through a three-set match against Roslin Hashim yesterday.

Meanwhile, Malaysian women's singles ace Wong Mew Choo continued her fine run in the tournament by adding another Chinese scalp today after having beaten Lu Lan, the seventh seed yesterday.

Mew Choo who lost the first game 18-21, came back to take the next two games 21-17, 21-14 and advance into the quarter-finals by beating Wang Lin.
