hi everyone!

i'm looking to invest in a pair of good badminton shoes (for once)

what model of shoe would be a good crossover of performance, durability, and price? i know this is a vague question, so i want personal opinions! FLYING ALL OVER THE PLACE!

i am 130lbs, fairly strong legged, but learning footwork techniques.

Go for yonex or ashaway. For portable courts I'd say victor for sure, but for this you should find a nice shoe in whatever price range in those brands.

Yonex SHB99m is awesome...or you could go with victor as westwood had said.

Middle to high end Yonex shoes. I didn't get any twisted ankle for the past 2 years wearing the Yonex 89 shoes. I can't say the same thing for the Mizuno shoes that I bought one month ago. I find that the Mizuno shoes have lesser lateral support than the Yonex shoes. On the other hand, the Mizuno shoes are less slippery than the Yonex shoes. Both of them are good shoes, yet if I am going to play single, I will wear the Yonex shoes.

Anyone knows where to buy a replacement Yonex sole? Mine has a hole in it with the size of a quarter.

Are you referring to Mizuno Volleyball shoes or Mizuno Badminton Shoes? If you are referring to their badminton shoes, I would have to disagree because they are at least at par with yonex badminton shoes in terms of performance and support and are definately more durable. I can agree about your comment if you are referring to their volleyball line of shoes

Are you referring to the Insole of your yonex shoe or the physical sole?
replacement insoles -> Super Feet.
soles -> take it to a shoe repair store?? or buy new shoes?

I have the Mizuno badminton shoes: Mizuno wave smash RG.

It is my "insole." Yeah, I knew I missed something (it was almost three in the morning.)

I recently switched to the Hi-Qua 350

http://www.hiquasports.com/badminton/shoes-350b.htm

It's a cross between the Yonex shows and the old Nike Phylon - very good shoes especially if you have wide feet or orthotics liek myself.

Reasonably priced too. I used to like the Asics, but the new models are pretty narrow. Addids had a decent court shoes, but it is also made for palyers with narrow feet.

availability here in canada is pretty much limited to yonex. ironic.

i've limited my choices to the SHB 99, 98, or 89. any opinions?

I've used Yonex shoes - they are very good, but expensive. I find Asics (all of their indoor court shoes) to be good. Excellent value for money too. Good support & cushioning.

I've found my Asics wasn't as low profile as my Yonex SHB90M. Found the traction of the SHB90M much better that Asics on hardwood gym floor.

Hai, I'm new here (just registered) but I've been following this site several month ago and dicided to join in the discussion. I just bought a pair of SHD100 a few hours ago for just USD65 (RM230)in Malaysia. I just want to ask a question regarding the price is it to cheap or resonable??

The shoe itself lasts a long time, but the cushioning does not. I lost all cushioning in my Yonex shoes after 3 months (I play 5-6 hrs / week) - which is OK, but an expensive hobby and gave me an injury to my foot/heel. I have since switched to other brands I have tried ASICS (much cheaper) and can recommend them for cushioning, but the grip is better on the top of the range versions (as good as the Yonex for me). I'll be trying Victor next.

Yes they did for me. I used gel heel inserts and they allowed me to continue to use the Yonex for several months. They made a huge difference.

I am amazed at the grip of Yonex round sole design. It reaaly makes a lot of difference with the added sole area on the sides of the shoe. I feel more secure in it:

Yes they did for me. I used gel heel inserts and they allowed me to continue to use the Yonex for several months. They made a huge difference.

So did I. Recently I felt my heel painful after playing with my Yonex SHB-71 (owned it 2-3 months ago) so that I have to put my feet to hot water every time at home. Then I bought gel heel inserts (not the full size insole but for heel supporting only), it worked but still got some pains. I am not quite sure if my shoes' cushion has already been out of function. But the better cushioning is definitely the first important for choosing my next shoes.

Do you think my next shoes should stick to Yonex or change to other brands?

I don't buy Yonex shoes now, but that's partly because I would need to use the inserts to avoid injury, and that for me is a major inconvenience because I sometimes forget them and it takes me longer to put them on. However, Yonex are very good, so if you are happy with the price and don't mind the hassle then stick with Yonex, especially if they fit your feet well in other respects. If the fit is not that good, then buy another brand, because fit is important too to stop your feet from slipping inside the shoe.

I know Asics have good cushioning, and so far the Nike Air indoor shoes seem to be pretty good too.

i haven't tried asics but i heard good things about their court shoes. maybe i will try them out later.

currently using a pair of mizuno shoes. very very good grip. this is a lower end mizuno shoes. the cushioning are not very good. i use sports insoles and now they feel great. did i mentioned that the grip is very very good? :D hahaha

yonex, well, they are a well known brand and people swear by it. i might try them out too in the future but i will have to see what my budget is. yonex can be very expensive. :(

so, basically, my recommendation is for you to do some trial and error. you just have to try to know how well the shoes will fit your requirements :) mizunos are good enough for me.

Before this I wear a pair of addidas tennis shoes, feels like its to bulky and dont hv strong grip on the court. If you got any lead to find those SENSEI model, do PM me :).

will do. on the asics court shoe thread, it was revealed that asics will be opening a flag store in penang soon. something like mizuno falg store in the gardens. i just hope that the shop will not only concentrate on running shoes and will stock some court shoes. however i think buying at a flag store means it will be expensive and no bargaining. :D if i have new lead, i will let you know. in the mean time, you can check out the asics court shoe thread. :)
