hey guys. need help. i've been using at700, 3ug5, strung w/ bg85 @ 25 lbs (main & cross) for a few years now. its my favorite racket. i recently recieved a brand new ns9000x, 3ug5 & i immediately had it strung to my prefered srtring/tension combo. i can say that it does have the power, accuracy & head speed (compared to my at700's) that most ns9000x users enjoy but the problem is that its tearing up my wrist & forearm. its the stiffest racket ive used (compared to mp99,100, at700). i dont wanna sell it coz 1st, twas given to me by my dad, 2nd, its a cool racket & performs relatively well, 3rd, im pretty sure that i wont get enuf money for it to buy a new racket. im trying to be positive bout the situation coz ive only used it for only 5 matches. im thinking that i might get used to it after a few more games or maybe change my string/tension combo. im willing to sacrifice a little accuracy/performance for a little comfort. i know i'll play better w/ more confidence (coz of comfort) than a high performance racket/string combo. any advice would be appreciated.

lol sorry i dont mean to laugh at your plight...

sounds like you might want to find a different string that is softer, or lower your tension slightly so that it is more forgiving... at least until you gain enough strength to take advantage of the ns9kx...

after that you will absolutely love it even more:D

its ok, just as long as its not an insulting laugh.:-)

yes, thats my 1st option. any suggestions on string/tension combo?

ive been so used to my at's that im havin a hard time adjusting to the ns9000x. ive no problems in the strenght department. its just that you cant afford to be careless w/ the ns, more focus is required to play w/ it. off-center hits are kinda harsh. my at's feel like pillows compared to the ns.

use the thinnest string and dont go to high on the tension.
use thicker or 2 overgrips.
hit the gym and do some weight training on your arms:p
email yonex and ask for an user manual :D:P kekeke

interesting... I found off centre hits more forgiving on ns9kx... that's just me though lol.

I don't have a large variance in my string preference... for me its all about durability & being able to string at slightly higher tensions (27+lbs)

currently I have 3 ns9kx strung up... 2 with bg65 strung at 31lbs, and the last one with bg80 @ 30lbs. (2 are in storage... majority of my racquets with exception of this 1 ns9kx, are all bg65)
Unless you're worried about snapping strings as often as I do, then I would not recommend bg65 lol.

Since you already mentioned you string @ 25lbs... maybe try bg80 but lower it to ~24lbs I have not played with string tension consistently on a racquet that low for some time now, but it might at least give you a good reference point to start.

I hear nanogy95 & 98 are decent as well... but i'm old fashioned (read - masochist) , and try to stick with old stuff what works for me...

If you're willing to try other types of string, others have recommended ashaway micropower... (.69mm)

I personally have shied away from using the thinner gauge .66mm type strings because I can never seem to get them to last more than 2 play sessions.

but bg66 or similar strings might be something for you to consider as well since you already play with bg85...

I know Master Pete LSD uses bg70 Pro to some great success on his ns9kx's... he may be able to give you more insight into playability...
I also know Master Panda (aka Dinkalot), has had extensive use of various strings & combos, and also played with his ns9kx's... I'm sure he will also be able to give you much more input than I...

Actually if you can, take a look at his strings review he's posted here in the equipment forum index... its been stickied...
He's rated the strings according to various criteria, should give you some better insight, than my ramblings here...

And I agree... I find the ns9kx requires players to use more proper stroke technique, but it offers equal rewards in terms of playability when the player can do this... this goes for power & touch shots...
Definitely not a racquet for everyone.

Hope this helps a little, and best of luck to you in finding an ideal string for this racquet!!

Cheers.

LOL... somehow I think we'd be charged $5 for even attempting such a thing :p

yo cooler, user's manual? c'mon man, the racket isnt an electronic or mechanical gizmo...:-) hehehe

thanks for the advice Kelvin. i might just do that, lower the tension of my bg85 (i love the feel of that string) to 23-24lbs. i used to string my rackets upto 28-29lbs before but the longer ive been playing, comfort is sumthin that i kinda missed.

regarding the off-center hits, to make it more specific, it felt kinda harsh during hard, fast, flat rallies...a sequence of hard drives just above the net.

same situation as mine when 1st get this new racket, but slowly i make this problem disappear, i strung at 24 lbs, and use thicker overgrip like karakal pu, then it's all back to normal:)

and the most important thing is the grip IMO

1) drop the tension to 22X24 on BG85. That will take care of the pain.
2) double grip it, you are holding it too tight during the impact.

thanks for the advice guys. i just dont think i could double the grip coz i like/prefer thin grips...& i use towel grips.

silentheart, im not aware bout how tight i grip coz i havent noticed but its a possibility. it gets really hot where i play & hands, arms get so sweaty, hard to grip the handle despite use of towel grip & sticky powder.

will take most of your advice in consideration. i appreciate them all.

Powder is only good for sweaty palm. Try wearing a wrist band - this will absorb most if not all the perespirtion that flow down from your arm to the grip.
