View Full Version : AT800OF noon disease, doomed? or no problem?
jsunsun 04-23-2007, 04:50 PM Ok, this is one of my AT800OF 3U with minor noon diseases. Judging from this pic, would you say:
1. no problem, almost as good as new
2. will collapse anytime when strung
3. will collapse only if racquet clashed with significant force at 12 oclock
4. will collapse with any racquet clash
Personally, I'd like to say 3. Cuz, since developing the noon disease, I've strung and played with this racquet 6 times at 27x30lbs without any worsening of the crack. I however, almost never racquet clash.
What do you guys think?
cooler 04-23-2007, 05:17 PM it will collapse one day from usage even without clashing.
i saw a 2nd hairline fracture as well.
david07 04-23-2007, 05:18 PM don't laugh lol, what's noon disease?
drowsysmurf 04-23-2007, 05:24 PM i go with 4 and if you can smash hard enuff =) i've strung my racket at 29x31 and broke 2 rackets in 1 week due to hairline cracks after constant smashing and maybe 1 or 2 clashes. cracks near grommets are the worst cracks.
silentheart 04-23-2007, 05:40 PM I would say depend.
3) if you don't string higher than 20X22 lb tension
4) if tension higher than 22X24 lb.
Agree with Cooler that eventually it will die. And Cooler has very good eyes. I have to take a second look to find the 2nd crack. If it is your racquet and you string it yourself, go for it and get the most out of it.

jsunsun 04-24-2007, 10:12 AM after careful inspection of the actual racquet, i still could not find a 2nd crack, maybe your computer screen is cracked? :p
anyhow, i got 3 x AT800OF (and 1 DF), which all have the same problem. AT800OF "was" my goto racquet. Unfortunately, no longer my goto racquet, yet cuz of crack, can't get rid of them... guess it's just my loss...
drowsysmurf 04-24-2007, 10:59 AM i believe the crack the are referring to is 2 grommets to the left from the middle grommets. it is very very minor and could just have been a camera flake or smudged racket i never had the "noon disease", mine just breaks at the 1-2o'clock spot when strung at 30 lbs =P (after a good 3 years) so i'm happy =P har har.
yoyomonkey 04-24-2007, 11:06 AM crack cause by stringing racket with 2-point machine at high tension right?
drowsysmurf 04-24-2007, 11:15 AM i doubt it cuz he said "I've strung and played with this racquet 6 times at 27x30lbs without any worsening of the crack." and if anything stringing with 2 point machine probably don't crack the racket at 12o'clock. it will crack it on the sides due to insufficient side support. otherwise, it prolly cracket the racket pretty well with a vertical crack not a horizontal like that one. btw... just cuz ur not worsening the crack does not mean itz not worsening internally.
GunBlade008 04-24-2007, 11:25 AM You know what you could do? If it's CD coded, you can always send it in to them and get its new equivalent, the AT900P!! :D
drowsysmurf 04-24-2007, 11:38 AM just make sure when you send it in, u restring it to 21x23 or something =P hahahaha... (if you leave it unstrung it might seem suspicious =P) and hope itz still under warranty

it was 6 point Egnas ST250. It had the plastic support at 12oclock, but guess that wasn't enough. Interesting thing is, I've strung about 50 other racquets and with that machine NEVER had that problems, except for ALL my AT800s!! this was rumored to be a design flaw in the AT800, though don't think anyone can conclusively prove this...

That would be amazing! It is indeed a CD code (though my other 3 AT800, all have same problem, are not!:crying: ). However, cuz I don't have a sales receipt nor it is within 6 months of purchase, will yonex canada still replace it?

What is the date code? If the date code is within 14 month, they will (12 month warrenty). Please call Yonex CAN and explain that it is showing the crack (a defect) and not broken yet. Don't string it because you might break it.
You might have to write a 15 pages paper for it (single space, font size 10).:crying::p :D

They would most liklye do it based on good will. You do realize if they replace it, you will end up with a 4U.
drowsysmurf 04-24-2007, 03:39 PM make sure u send it all in at the same time and tell them defective batch... they should have a recall and reissue new rackets =D

even if they're not CD coded? my other 3 AT800s are TH, SP, and TW. Also, if I sent to them, and they decide not to replace it, are they gonna return the racquets to me?
I don't care if they're 4U, just want to get somethign out of my cracked/doomed racquets that I rare use. would be great if they send me back 4 AT900P!
So simply ship to them in a box with a note of explanation? If I send it, I'll likely restring all of them at ~22lbs. If they can survive my current 27x30lbs, i'm sure they can survive 22lbs. Don't think yonex will be sympathetic if they see 30lbs.

good luck with that! :p and I will the first online to buy one from you! :D
silentheart 04-24-2007, 07:54 PM 1) Yoenex CAN only deal with US or CD coded. If you ship any other code, bye bye racquet.
2) You need to get a RMA number from Yonex. That is why I ask youto call them. If you don't, bye bye the CD coded racquet.
3) Yonex will replace with a racquet with simular price range, AT900-t is a long shot but anything is possible.
4) Since it is not strung right now, do not string it before you send it back. No point to throw a way a pack of good string. Just tell them that it was strung at 20X22 lb and when you saw the crack, you cut the string right away.
5) Don't ask, I only tell you what I know regarding Yonex RMA procedures.
Good luck.
