From the colored rows, i would assume the yellow would indicate teams that have been promoted. And pink would indicate teams that have been demoted.;)

China looks unstoppable.
Semifinalists
Tough fight among Den, Mas, Kor and Ina for the other 3 semifinal spots. Thailand dark-horse
Relegation
For me, Hkg will be relegated, because their doubles cannot match Eng and Tha. Their only hope is to try to pip England.
Group B
Straight fight between Sin and Jpn.
Sato v Susilo: tough fight
Hirose v Li or Xing: Jpn to win
MD: Jpn to win
WD: Ogura/Shiota v Jiang/Li: tough fight
XD: Sin to win
3-2 either way, but I think Jpn has a slightly better chance.
fook1125 05-10-2007, 10:33 AM group1a:China,Malaysia,England,Thailand

tstan85 05-10-2007, 06:06 PM Malaysia should be able to make into semi final at least and possibly to the final!
hcyong 05-10-2007, 10:36 PM The luck of draw favours Malaysia. I am not belittling England and Thailand, but it is better than being in Group B.
hcyong 05-10-2007, 10:37 PM BTW, the draw is here:

Agree, MAS has bigger chance compare than ENG or THA to go into SF scene as runner-up Group 1A but never underestimate THA with their shuttlers improvement recently such as Boonsak-Sudket/Saralee. CHN is absolutely will take position as Group 1A Winner.
Meanwhile, it's obviously disadvantage for INA team who must struggling against another strong candidates DEN and dark-horse KOR. On paper these 3 countries have equal opportunities to book 2 places in last four.
ctjcad 05-11-2007, 01:18 AM ...courtesy of badmintonscotland.org..and the match schedule will be conducted today(Friday May 11th, 2007)..thx again to hcyong for the link;)

Interesting, why not Robertson/Emms for Eng?
Got this from BE's site:
"England head coach Ian Wright said: "It's a tough draw. Not what we had hoped for.""
A tough draw? As opposed to what?? :confused:

Either Robertson/Emms or Clark/Kellogg would be clear favourites against any Malaysian pair.
Tough draw? It's like being in the Premier League and complaining about the tough opponents.
hcyong 05-11-2007, 11:42 AM Looking at Group B, it's pretty dicey for Singapore against Taiwan. Cheng and WD look good for Taiwan. Taiwan needs to hunt for one more point from either MD or XD. Singapore still favourites to win 3-2. Taiwan may also struggle against Xu-powered Germany.
Not easy for Japan as well, facing the likes of Poland and Netherlands. With a strong ladies section, Japan should still pull through.

Relegation
For me, Hkg will be relegated, because their doubles cannot match Eng and Tha. Their only hope is to try to pip England.
HK has a pretty good chance against England. Njoto/Wiranata vs Blair/Clark should be about 50/50. Both MS and WS heavily favours HK while WD and XD heavily favours England.
HK's chances against Thailand isn't that bad either. WS and MD favours HK. Ng Wei vs. Boonsak is about 40/60. If Ng Wei can pull off the upset, HK can remain in Group 1 for another 2 years.
kidosetiawan 05-11-2007, 08:53 PM INA vs KOR
MS: Taufik Hidayat v Park Sung Hwan (Taufik I think)
WS: Maria Kristin v ??? (surely Korea)
MD: Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan v Jung-Lee (Jung and Lee lost to Joko-Hendra) so I think INA have a slight advantage
XD: Nova-Lili vs Jung-Lee Hyo Jung
(Tough one but Ina has slight chance)
WD: Vita Marissa-Greysia Polli v Lee Hyo Jung-Hwang Yu mi (50-50)
3-2 Indonesia
INA vs DEN
MS: Taufik Hidayat vs Peter Gade (well on his best Taufik can beat the guy)
WS: ????? vs Maria Kristin (Denmark surely)
MD: Kido-Setiawan vs Eriksen-Lungard (both a bit dodgy but INA has better chance)
XD: Nova-Lily vs Thomas Laybourn-Kamila Rhtyr Juhl (Nova-Lily to win)
WD: Vita Marissa-Greys v ??? (dunno 50-50)
on the good day 3-2 INA
INA vs HK
MS: Taufik Hidayat/Sony Dwi Kuncoro/Simon Santoso vs Chan Yan Kit (INA to win)
WS: Maria Kristin vs Wang Chen (HK surely)
MD: Kido-Setiawan vs whoever here (INA to win)
XD: Nova-Lily vs whoever (INA)
WD: I think INA has better chance
4-1 INA to win........
If 2 of them is correct then semis we can go through....I hope all of them is correct....
chandler_k04 05-12-2007, 09:36 AM INA vs KOR
MS : TH vs PSH---> TH
WS : MKY vs Hwang hye Youn---> HHY
MD : MK/HS vs LYD/JJS or LJJ/JJS----> 50:50
WD : GP/VM vs ----> Lee Hyo JUng/Lee Kyungwon---> LHJ/LKW
XD : NW/LN ---> LYD/LHJ or LJJ/LHJ--->NW/LN
so INA vs Kor 50:50..depends on MD
INA vs Denmark
MS : TH ns PGC---> 50:50
WS : MK vs TR--->TR
MD : MK/HS vs JE/MLH ----> 50:50
WD : GP/VM vs Kamilla/Lena--->GP/VM
XD : NW/LN vs Laybourn/Kamilla--->NW/LN
INA has better chance
INA vs HKG
Ina should win all matches except WS
hcpoirot 05-12-2007, 03:20 PM Looks like Indonesia enter the wrong group. It will be better if they were in Group A with China.
In Group B, they had to be Group B winner in order not to meet China in SF. And they had very tough matches against Denmark if Taufik lost and very very tough matches against Korea if LHI in top form.

i don't think LHI will be playing.
i think group B wil be loads of fun, KOR, INA and DEN all have good chance and i think it's too close to call.
we're looking at a good fight for second place again!

Why Park Sung Hwan? Why not Lee Hyun Il? What happen to him?
Btw, Jung Jae Sung played MXD? I think it should be either Lee Yong Dae or Lee Jae Jin... Both can play either MXD or MD...

There's a rumour that Hyun-Il was quit from KOR National Team due his shock exit at 1st Round KOR SS against MAS Lee Tsuen Seng with straight-set (21-17 ; 21-8). And of course KOR Manager was very angry about this embarrassing result. I had read this info from one article in BOLA Tabloid last February.
KOR MD & XD is really flexible, no problem for them who-paired-who as we know so far. The promising star Lee Young-dae was absent from several SS tourneys, didn't know whether he was still recovered from ankle injury or another reason.
TPA_AON 05-15-2007, 07:07 AM my prediction for THAILAND

Are national bodies really that volatile, and can coaches really react like that and still be effective? It's not like there were loads of players challenging for LHI's position, he was way ahead of his teammates. If everyone who suffered a shock exit was dropped from their team there'd be no-one left to play!
I've just booked time off work to go to Glasgow, should be good! :cool:
Dreamzz 05-15-2007, 10:57 AM CHINA

i think you're being too pessimistic here.
Boonsak has a good chance to beat LD, since he beat him in the IO.
Sudket/Saralee also managed to beat the CHN pair in the IO, which means the match will be closer than you think.
so a 2-3 win for CHN is quite possible, unfortunately still a loss for THA though! :D

I don't think Thailand will use full force against China, they maybe prepare more for the meeting against Malaysia. Cause they had better chance to beat Malaysia then to beat China.
At least they can assured one win from MX against Malaysia.
abedeng 05-16-2007, 08:41 PM I hope the tournament will not be a farce. Say China gets upstaged by either Malaysia, England or Thailand, and only qualify as runnersup of their group. What would happen to the other group's ties? Can we confirm that the final group ties are played simultaneously so that there is no hanky-panky involved?
In the 1992 Thomas Cup, Malaysia (who was expected to be group champions) lost 2-3 to Prof Park's gang and finished 2nd behind Korea in their group.
In the other group the following day, China and Indonesia "battled out" not to win their group, but for the right not to meet Malaysia in semis. China used their reserve players, but Indonesia "won" by using doubles players as singles and two singles players making up a pair.
Eventually, both China and Indonesia lost to Malaysia anyway.

These sort of things are bound to happen once in a blue moon in any competition. I suppose it's not so bad if it can only happen during the preliminary stage.
tjl_vanguard 05-16-2007, 11:16 PM i think MAS can bank in on LCW... he's back and his game play and speed on court inproved tremendously... so i think other countries might have to look out for him.... :D
badMania 05-19-2007, 12:58 AM Group Stage Schedule for teams in Group 1:

18:30pm China vs Thailand , Malaysia vs England
Denmark vs Hong Kong, Indonesia vs Korea
Tuesday (12 June)
13:30pm Denmark vs Indonesia, Korea vs Hong Kong
18:30pm Malaysia vs Thailand, China vs England
Wednesday (13 June)
13:30pm Indonesia vs Hong Kong, Korea vs Denmark
18:30pm China vs Malaysia, England vs Thailand
hyun007 05-22-2007, 08:38 AM This year winner is obvious, China.
The Great Wall of Women are just too strong and will compensate any silly lost by the men.
BUT who is going to get promoted to Gp 1 and who going to get relegated is interesting.
Also, who will be the top 4 in group 1 but we already know for sure China will be in top 4 and eventually win it.
Group 2 is very interesting too.
It can go any way.
tjl_vanguard 05-22-2007, 07:14 PM hahaha im hoping for surprises to happen!!! hihihi :D
abedeng 05-24-2007, 07:27 AM Wow!! The showdown starts early for MAS and INA . Lose the 1st game and all we can hope for is to stay in Group 1.
Time for both teams to show what they are made of!!!
Dreamzz 05-24-2007, 08:18 AM do we know if there are any live broadcasts for these matches?

I dont think that Bonsak will beat LD for the second.Im sure china will take it 5-0 if they meet thailand
pramilainc 05-24-2007, 09:14 PM No offence, but your Thai vs Eng predictions are very optimistic... I'm not a particularly big English fan (except may be MX) but it's kinda straight forward Eng will win 4-1
MS: Boonsak over Smith
WS: Hallam over Boonsak's sister ?
MD: Clarke/Blair
WD: Emms/Kellog
MX: Robertson/Emms
Not much doubt in any of the matches, except for maybe MX cos Thai pair is genuinely good, but Emms/Robertson has been them time n time again in opens..
my prediction for THAILAND
England
ms:BOONSAK vs smith .... BOONSAK will win
ws:Soratja vs ????? Hope Thai win
md:Sudket/Songphon vs clark/blair ENGLAND win
wd:Kunchala/Duanganong vs emms gail/donna kelogg ... ENG win again

THAI 3 ENGLAND 2
MAS
ms: LCW vs BOONSAK ... I hope BOONSAK win
ws: WMC vs Soratja .. WMC win

wd: WPT/CEH vs Kunchala/Duanganong .. 50-50 .. but i think THAI will lost
mx: Sudket/Saralee will win
so MAS 3 THAI 2
CHINA
definitely .. THAILAND 0 CHINA 5
hcpoirot 05-25-2007, 02:07 PM With all countries used almost the same players as the Thomas and Uber Cup 2006 players (except for malaysia MD KKK/TBH), it will no doubt China will win again.
They convincingly won 3-0 for Uber and Thomas. And they will win 3-0 or worst 3-1 in final except the men part play very bad and gave up 3 point.
