View Full Version : Surge of Thais
2cents 05-05-2007, 05:30 PM Who could predict that Thais are the 2nd strongest powerhouse in the world!
Among 10 finalists, Thais take 2 spots, only after Chinese. China has 6, and Malaysia 1 and Indonesia 1. Especially the Malaysia and Indonesia finalists are ethnic Chinese also. So the 2 Thai finalists are the only non-Chinese. Great job!
Dreamzz 05-05-2007, 05:37 PM boonsak's performance is indeed above par for him, well done.
sudket/saralee have shown for some time that they are a world-class pair, so i'm not as surprised (and no less pleased) to see them in the final.
llpjlau 05-05-2007, 05:54 PM the thais might be ethnic chinese as well that intergrated or assimilated into the thai culture.

Thanks for that, I didn't know that before.
From their names, Limpele, Tan Fook Choong, Wan Wah Lee are clearly Chinese names. For Thais, it is hard to tell from their names.
chibe_K 05-05-2007, 06:06 PM No doubt, Thais are doing well in Singapore Open. It is an exaggeration to say they are the 2rd strongest in the world....sorry, not yet.
zqloy 05-05-2007, 07:34 PM I like the Thais. Very positive attitude and spirit on court, seems that they r the only ones who know how to enjoy badminton.

agree. they are usually the semi-finalists, so that would make them around 3rd/4th all the time. sometimes they break out and wins a major title, let's hope they will be able to do that in this Singapore Open. they truely have the spirit of badminton and the crowd always pick up on that. Sudket is always there playing 110%. Saralee on the other hand, seeme to be a bit held back this time, perhaps she is being bothered by an injury?

yes, thats true, its harder to tell.
ethnic chinese in malaysia did not pick up the native culture (if not their names would all be Hutan Chong Abdul or sth like that)

Shuttlekok 05-06-2007, 11:09 AM Yeah... Let's hope this Boonsak chap will go a long way... very humble!

Agreed. Sudket is a very intelligent player imho http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif
JaCk™ 05-07-2007, 02:02 AM Sudket was jumping all around the court and making good smashes. too bad, his partner spoil it for him by making a lot of mistakes. Boonsak played a solid game yesterday. perhaps Chen Yu lost all the confidence after knowing Boonsak beat Lin Dan, who is China No.1.

Saralee is having a some back injury thats why she couldnt perform up to par. But their performance in the semis is still great, especially Sudket.
Linus 05-07-2007, 02:09 AM I always enjoy watching the XD pair of Sudket/Saralee, as many have put it, they play the unorthodox style of XD.
Especially Sudket, he must be a coach's nightmare on the court, because he looked so laid-back and uninterested when he is not playing the shuttle, and sometimes you wonder whether he is day-dreaming or not. By when the shuttle is played towards his side, he suddenly leaps like a tiger and pounce on it!!!
