To hit more efficiently the shuttle, we should look at the shuttle hitting the strings?
I am asking because a known tennis coach said this in relation to tennis, but he said also that this is common in other racket sports.

i myself do not look at the shuttle hitting the strings...
once i get used to the racket i am using, i feel comfortable with the timing and so instead look at different places to try and confuse my opponent.
i find that when i do try and "look" at the shuttle hitting the strings i tryto be PERFECT with my timing and therefore mishit much more often than when i do not look at the shuttle.
however..... each to his own...
whatever suits you...

I dont know, but I dont really look at my string everytime for every shot i make.It more of timing than looking imo
Maybe the shuttles is way faster than a tennis ball

Looking one way and hitting the other is a BRILLIANT way to wrongfoot opponents at any level of the game, so if you can master this skill you should be laughing.
I usually look at the shuttle only long enough to gauge where it will be once I reach it, and then I scope out the different areas of the court where I can hit it.

by right, you should be shifting your glance between your opponent and the shuttle. glance and your opponent and think of your next move. then look at your shuttle and hit that shot you have planned.
not looking at the shuttle might sound cool. but, don't forget shuttle do not have perfect flights like balls. the shuttle might drfit the sides and you might just mishit or miss the shot.

yes, we should maintain eye contact during the impact to shuttle similiar to tennis. this will lower the risk of mis-hit.

well when i was young, i had to look at the shuttle, but now, i only glance up at the shuttles for a jump smash or a smash

Look at the shuttle before you hit it, so you can time the impact. But often you probably don't look at the shuttle at the time of impact.
Badminton is a reflex game. Returning smashes or defending is often by reflex. You don't even see the shuttle coming.

there is no way you are going to be able to see the exact location of impact. its too fast. the best you can do is look at it before and, of course, you try to hit the sweet spot everytime.

some do get used to the racket length. i tend to look at the shuttle until i'm positive that i'll hit it, though.

Looking too much at the shuttle shorten the time to look at where the opponent is standing. If you foot work is good you'll also have to look down at the boundary lines to see if the shuttle is going out. In tennis, there is less guessing on whether it's going out or not, since the ball have to bounce once before hitting when standing in the back court. If your racket is good enough and the strings are at a certain tension where you can feel the difference between a hit that is on the sweet spot and a hit that is off a sweet spot, you can adjust your timing/technique from the feel of impact.
