Competition Rules and regulations
Good Luck Beijing 2007 International Badminton Invitational Tournament will be conducted in accordance with the latest BWF rules and regulations and the 21-point rally point scoring system will be adopted.

Knock-out system will be used in each of the 5 events to decide the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places (with bronze medal play-off).

The number of places in the draw for each event is as follows:
Men's Singles: 38 places
Women's Singles: 38 places
Men's Doubles: 16 pairs

True.. What is the propose of organizing this events?? Should let the whole World (Badminton Nations) have a chances to have a try & play in this "Gonna-Be" Gynasiums for Olympic Badminton Events rite?

It is not interesting at all..this is just Chinese National tournaments...may be INA refused to go due to Moslem's new year but no other nations...one German, One MAS XD.........something is wrong here, no Hong Kong players either........just want to know how they invited, how many they refused to come to try out.........

"Haven't been paired up for years?" Is that just an expression or do you mean it? To refresh your memory,Koo KK/Wong PT were semi-finalists at last year's WC.I think the pairing broke off before the Asian Games

According to drawing from BWF website, there's only several foreign players that invited by the organizer :
- MS -- Nguyen Tien Minh (VIE) ; Juergen Koch (AUT)
- WS -- Petya Nedeltcheva (BUL) ; Xu Huaiwen (GER)
- MD -- None (All Chinese)
- WD -- Petya N/Diana Dimova (BUL)
- XD -- Koo Kien Keat/Wong Pei Tty (MAS)

What specific criteria for the participant? None INA/DEN/KOR/JPN shuttlers but minor bdm countries such as Vietnam,Bulgaria and Austria. Any reason for that?!
I wonder also...may be they do not want other players to try and adapt too quickly..it can ruin China's chances......on serious note, I hope to find out the criteria that are being used to invite some or certain players....

Also it is tough for Chinese players, after Macau Open, this trial then 2 SS....must be very tired...I wont be surprised that some chinese players will withdraw from Macau Open.....it is a tiring month for chinese players...hope they stay healthy

International badminton tourney opens in Beijing

"Good Luck Beijing" 2007 International Badminton Invitational Tournament opened in Beijing today at Beijing University of Technology (BUT) Gymnasium.
The tournament, being held from Oct. 10 to 14, is among a series of test events for the Beijing 2008 Olympics.
A total of 119 athletes from Malaysia, Germany, Austria, Vietnam and China, including the world No. 1 Lin Dan and Zhang Ning, both of China, will compete in men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.
With a seating capacity of 7,500, the BUT Gymnasium is the only Olympic venue located in southeast Beijing. It will serve as the badminton and rhythmic gymnastics venue for the Beijing Olympics next year.

You're right. Koo/Wong, Xu Huaiwen and Petya had withdrew from this invitational test event.

This tournament is totally CHN parade, introducing their youngster who against top player. But makes me wonder, no Chen Jin name in MS drawing.

<FONT face="Times New Roman">This is actually a timer for the intervals during the games. It shows us the time remaining before a game starts, and also tells a player how much time is left for them to take their short break during the intervals. This has not been used in tournaments before this. I think it’s nice!

And this picture is a machine that is put beside the serve judge. We just have to put the tube of shuttles on it and it will shoot the shuttles out for the player who wants to change the shuttle automatically with a touch of the button on it. This one is very high-tech, but I have not seen the judges using it today; maybe it is still not practical enough? Or any other reasons, I’m not sure. Anyway, these two things are really new to us. Ha-ha-ha…

Lin Dan breezes into badminton quarters

Lin Dan knocked out Chinese compatriot Liu Yuchen 21-7, 21-7 to advance into the men's singles quarterfinals at the 2007 International Badminton Tournament in Beijing today.
In the 18-minute two sets, Lin Dan stamped his world No. 1 authority by taking a 14-point lead in the first set and had a complete control of the second with powerful jump smashes and varied shuttles to secure the win.
"My opponent Liu Yuchen is rather young, he needs more training," said Lin after the match, adding that the airing facility of the gymnasium is the best he ever experienced.
China's second-seeded Bao Chunlai and Vietnamese fourth-seeded Nguyen Tien Minh are other medal contenders for the men's singles on Oct.14.
Along with the men's singles and women's singles, the men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles are also being held in three courts on Oct.10-14 at the Beijing University of Technology (BUT) Gymnasium, the badminton venue for 2008 Beijing Olympics.

This is actually a timer for the intervals during the games. It shows us the time remaining before a game starts, and also tells a player how much time is left for them to take their short break during the intervals. This has not been used in tournaments before this. I think it’s nice!
And this picture is a machine that is put beside the serve judge. We just have to put the tube of shuttles on it and it will shoot the shuttles out for the player who wants to change the shuttle automatically with a touch of the button on it. This one is very high-tech, but I have not seen the judges using it today; maybe it is still not practical enough? Or any other reasons, I’m not sure. Anyway, these two things are really new to us. Ha-ha-ha…
..stuff there:cool:...For the automated shuttle feeder, it's interesting how the mechanism actually works?? Are they going to take out all the shuttles from the tube and fill them in the mechanism?? :confused: And I wonder if that mechanism will soon replace a human feeder..:confused::p;)

Congrats to all winner especially zhang yawen coming out as the bigest winner.

(Beijing, October 14) After five days of competition the "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 International Badminton Invitational Tournament came to an end with success on October 14.
With the withdrawal of a number of foreign players from the Beijing invitational due to various reasons, Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam became the only foreigner among the 119 players participating in the tournament. As Punch Gunalan, First Vice-President of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) put it, the event served as a test run of the event organization and operation of the venue in the first place. In other words, as far as the number of players in each round satisfied the needs for competition management, the competition level was not that important.
As the host country China sent a star-studded field to the tournament including all the world's top-seeded players and Olympic hopefuls.
Lin Dan and Xie Xingfang won the men's and women's singles titles as expected. While world No. 1 Gao Ling/Zheng Bo lost to Zhang Yawen/Xie Zhongbo in the mixed doubles final, to the surprise of all. The men's and women's doubles titles went to Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng and Wei Yili/Zhang Jawen respectively.
Nguyen Tien Minh, who walked away with the bronze medal in the men's singles, was happy to be able to play with world No. 1 Lin Dan in the semifinals. Although he lost the match he was satisfied with his own performance. Commenting on the venue at the Beijing University of Technology, he thought it was the best Olympic venue for badminton he had ever seen.
As a warm-up for the upcoming Olympic Games the Beijing invitational saw top Chinese players going all out to vie for good results at this future Olympic venue. As Lin Dan concluded at a post-final press conference, "I have already sensed the Olympic atmosphere here."

I think Tien Minh took an early flight home? Is just a test tournament, he would have stayed if it was the Olympic bronze :D

yes,As Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam had left for home somebody else received the bronze medal on behalf of him.

Nguyen Tien Minh (pictured), though ranked only a lowly 41st in the world, was seeded fourth in a tournament that lost its 3rd seed when Chen Yu withdrew. In a way, then, it makes sense that he should have won the bronze medal. However, to get it, he had to get through 5 matches against Chinese players in front of a partisan crowd, including a decisive win over newly-crowned Bitburger Open champion Lu Yi, that set up his showdown with world #1 Lin Dan.

Although he failed to create one of the upsets for which he has recently made a name for himself, Nguyen gave Lin a respectable challenge in the semi-finals, losing 12-21, 15-21 to send him to the bronze medal match. Having already beaten Lu Yi, he was then to play Li Yu. While on paper, this was only two letters, in reality, with a medal on the line and a Sunday afternoon crowd, it was a whole new badminton game.

After winning the first game easily, Nguyen had 3 match points in the second game but Li keep reeling him in and finally scored the 3 straight points he needed to take the game 24-22. Nguyen failed to convert two more match point opportunities in the decider before finally putting it away 22-20.
