View Full Version : Lin Dan is not in IO2007 main draw, withdrawn?
eskey 05-07-2007, 08:05 AM What happened to Lin Dan? I just checked tournamentsoftware and his name is not there anymore, instead http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/images/flags/CZE.gif[CZE] Jan FROHLICH [PFQ] (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/players.aspx?id=14475&c=CZE) has been promoted to main draw. Is he injured?
MS single main draw

huangkwokhau 05-07-2007, 08:47 AM YES....but in SO..he was not injured at all.....lets find out the story behind his withdrawal...thta section draw is wide open now
sugar_free 05-07-2007, 08:51 AM What happen to the China team? In SO, BCL withdrew... Now Lin Dan? Is he punished for losing to Boonsak? Hmm... We shall find out...
PlayaFromMalaya 05-07-2007, 08:57 AM check the qualifiers draw..maybe his in there..hah
Cannot_smash 05-07-2007, 09:42 AM Was there when CHN team practice earlier today. Almost the whole squad were there, but LD was nowhere to be seen.
huangkwokhau 05-07-2007, 09:42 AM Basically LD, Lee tsuen Seng and Dane's Joachim all withdrew....
I am surprised that Gao Ling did not plan to take part in WD..anyway...Chinese is always strong even GL does not play...
I heard that Yuan kartika.Aprilia and Bona/mohammad may not make it as their flight will be in jakarta on tuesday nights...what a waste!!
Krisna 05-07-2007, 09:48 AM I just returned from Istora. Yes, Lin Dan has withdrawn. As well as Lee Tsuen Seng and Joachim Persson...
That's why you see Jan Frohlich, Kuan Beng Hong, and Ismail Saman in the main draw. Just see it in www.tournamentsoftware.com (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com)
The funny thing for me is that Nguyen Tien Minh [3] did not qualify earlier than Jan Frohlich [4]... sin Jan's ranking is below Nguyen during the seeding, that's why Nguyen is seeded 3rd in the qualifying matches, and Jan is 4th.
The guy in charge said that he based it on the BWF ranking of whatever week where Jan Frohlich is ranked higher than Nguyen. Still odd... if so, then how come Nguyen is seeded 3rd in the first place...
tommy_bun 05-07-2007, 10:00 AM So sad to know that Lindan withdrew...
Btw,I still see Gao Ling in the WD draw

bhtan 05-07-2007, 11:09 AM i think lin dan's withdraw is a necessary move. If he meet Boonsak again and lost, the superpower of badminton will collaspe overnight.
Dont fight a battle without confident. Go back to rethink, replan and retrain.

I think LD wanted to revenge...any one knows why LD has WDN...may be like INDRA said that LD is afraid to meet TH ...hehe ( if TH can survice from CJ first)...:D

Krisna, hows condition in Istora? I heard that Aprilia/Yuan and Bona may not play due to late flight...any scoop? did you talk to some INA players...
cao ci dan 05-07-2007, 12:07 PM   :crying: ...LD not going to IO...:( not fun anymore!sigh..
JPPPHIL 05-07-2007, 12:07 PM In Philippines, We watched singapore open thru the normal Dream satellite TV, Solar sports, like usual, they have 4 hours telecast, and we always end up watching 4 events in final but not the Men Doubles, happen with korean open, the malaysia, the Danes and now Singapore open. they said they will show it another day.( when we all knew the score already.)
For some reasons, we are still seeing the replay of the Pacquiao fights and replay local sports pregramme. Is this going to happen for the rest of the super 12 series ??
I hope the Asuncions family ( coach asuncions) is reading this message, may be he can put a word in Star Sports and wake them up a bit...
LinDan withdraw due to some personal and coach matters.
angelatby 05-07-2007, 12:21 PM Even if Lin Dan is not playing, he will still secure a ranking placement at the top, yeah :) On the other hand, we can see how good are other players improving also, yeah :) Be optimistic, yeah :)
huangkwokhau 05-07-2007, 12:23 PM LinDan withdraw due to some personal and coach matters.
Really? How come? is LD ready to rebel LYB?? I thought LYB will not let any players against their coaches...pls..pls..more details..just like TH now...:( :(
Krisna 05-07-2007, 12:29 PM Krisna, hows condition in Istora? I heard that Aprilia/Yuan and Bona may not play due to late flight...any scoop? did you talk to some INA players...
The condition? You mean the tournament condition? Well, it's fully air conditioned. Feels like 24 degrees or so. Not bad. The side lights are a bit blinding. It was hard for me to enjoy the matches that are on the sides because the lights were very distracting [during lobs]. Ouch. :p
The spectators were given Djarum 'thundersticks' so they can make sounds 'boom boom boom'. They actually made some music out of the boom boom booms today, ha ha...:D
It is true that Aprillia and Yuan did not make it to play tonight even though the original schedule said that they should play at 7 and 7:40pm tonight. The Pelatnas [National] team requested that the matches be delayed to tomorrow morning. The Indonesian referee, Juniarto [from PB Tangkas], asked the senior BWF referee whether he can delay:
Aprillia [Pelatnas, PB. Semen Gresik] vs. Maria Elfira [PB. Djarum]
Yuan Kartika [Pelatnas, PB. Tangkas] vs. Rosaria Yusfin Pungkasari [PB. Djarum]Since these two matches are INA vs. INA, the senior BWF referee said that Juniarto and the Indonesians can settle it himself.
Well, it is common practice that... when a player does not show up at the appropriate time, then it is technically considered a walkout. The opponent has the right to just move to the next round without playing. Except...well, maybe... if the opponent also agrees to delay the match, then it is sort of fair to delay...
Juniarto, did not ask the Djarum team / players whether they mind delaying the matches until tomorrow... and decided unilaterally in favor of Pelatnas [and automatically his own PB. Tangkas player, of course] and delay the matches until 9am and 9:40am tomorrow.
Actually, since Aprillia and Yuan did not show up at the scheduled time, Maria Elfira and Rosaria probably can just insist that this is a simple walkout. Because they were already there next to the courts, ready to play, while their opponents were not present. In the end, the girls and the Djarum team decided not to protest, even though it is clearly unfair that they were not given a walkout win immediately.
Note: today, Maria Febe won with a walkout when the Korean girl, Lee Yun Hwa did not show up.
No.. he has nothing bad to do with LYB. He listens to LYB.

Just curious to know why LD withdrawn....he has not done it before...

...does this happen almost every yr or what @ the Indonesian Open with last minute withdrawals of top players(ie. CHN, DEN, KOR)??...Last yr and in previous yrs it was the same (forgot who withdrew though)..My guess to why LinDan is withdrawing is because he has not fully healed yet from his injury, thus most likely he'll take more time to rest with the upcoming Sudirman Cup next month..
Hmm, anyways, back to the news..With the withdrawal of LinDan, once again the MS upper half, and as a whole, will be wide open for the taking. Personally i wouldn't count out ChenHong from the upper half. Looking at his draw, i think his main "bump in the road" could be the recent S'pore Open champ, Boonsak(granted he wins his matches). If CH should qualify from his quarter, then who knows, he could may end up in the Final again, to set up perhaps another clash/rematch with Taufik(granted he wins against his opponents)??... ;)
Btw, thanks Krisna for giving a bit more news on the going ons..

Lin Dan is tired of winning tournaments after tournaments, and if the tournament is not being held in a nice country full of tourist attractions, there is no point of him going there.
No good tourist attraction = no place for dating after the tournament:eek:
Winning $16,000US - payment to China = about $8,000 US for all that hard work??? sucks!!! especially when he has to endure all the crazy Indo fans.:p
Carry a shopping cart full of Indo money just to bring a bowl of Wonton soup noodle... not fun at all...LOL.:D
Bottom line is if Taufik can choose which tournament to focus on, why can't Lin Dan do the same? Lin Dan only wants the Olympic title, and he probably gets better competition at home in China anyways... might as well let his teammates win some titles.:p

Actually the winner of MS will get more that US$ 16000..I believe it is US$ 20K ( Indo open is US$ 250K and SO is US$ 200 K)
Hehe...well...good excuse if LD wanted to choose...he should not list his name...it makes the draw not competitive ( Upper draw)..
Jakarta has many places for dating actually..we have many nicer malls...:D :D
Dreamzz 05-07-2007, 01:13 PM wow, i didn't think that they'll be such politics within the CHN camp. i figured they would really clamp down on such issues.

TH's route to the final could not be harder actually.
CJ, then Boonsak, then Sony, then PG, the LCW?
or CJ, then Boonsak, then Sony, then BCL, then CH?
either way, it really does look tough for him to retain his title. i have no doubt that he has the skill to beat them all, but will he have the stamina? i suspect that most of these matches will be tough, i expect at least 3 of the 5 matches to go to 3 sets, if he makes it that far.

..i would somehow agree with that...it looks quite tough for Taufik...;)
huangkwokhau 05-07-2007, 01:28 PM Like SO..it may have some surprises...you will never know who will end up meeting who...especially on 2nd half of MS

First of all, Taufik has been using the same "excuse" before... he wants to choose which tournament to focus on.
Secondly, I thought you are located in either Hong Kong, or L.A... but in your post... you sound more like you are in Indonesia...
BTW... dating in a mall during a foreign country visit??? That's pretty sad...

What I am saying that LD never uses excuses befoe...so it is quite strange if he started...to act like TH..:( :(
huangkwokhau 05-07-2007, 01:51 PM Plus still have some uncles in Shan Tao and fujian...
LI De Quan 05-07-2007, 06:57 PM LD will not play badminton anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sigh!!:crying:
He will work for a kfc chain!!!!!!!!
[You can find nice pic's from his blog(some of he at KFC).]
(I'm only joking.)
LI De Quan 05-07-2007, 07:24 PM LEE CW can easily get through to the Semi-Finals this time!!!!!!!!!
I think .
orchiid 05-07-2007, 07:28 PM maybe this will give more chances to other teamates, make sure CJ, BCL in the first four stable.
CJ played football and hurt his foot so he did't do well in SO
tjl_vanguard 05-07-2007, 07:50 PM hihihihi.... is he scared of the roaring Ina crowds with Taufik or wad??? :D
tjl_vanguard 05-07-2007, 07:53 PM LEE CW can easily get through to the Semi-Finals this time!!!!!!!!!
I think . the draw has been very kind to chong wei... the only ones he has to be careful of is just hafiz, simon santoso, chen hong, ronald susilo and kenneth jonassen.. i think he has good records against all of them before this.. but still, before is before.. wad bout now????:confused::confused: and im celebrating my 1000th post here!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D
Joyous 05-07-2007, 08:02 PM Heard from the grapevine that LD's withdrawal is due to personal reasons - physically & emotionally. Anybody can vouch further on that ??
Anyway, life can be so complicated. When LD participates, there are ppl who love to see him lose for reasons known to themselves and when he doesn't participate, they are disappointed.
One thing that I heard is that LD takes each tournament with importance. And I think there is some truth in that. When he blew away his final match with LCW at tne MO '06, he was so angry with himself and got carried away with his actions which all of us know resulted in him losing many fans.
X Ball 05-07-2007, 08:36 PM Boonsak has a nice ring around his name and for that 'Feng Shui' reason alone plus his demolishment of the top Chinese hierarchy in the SO, it is hard to see how he would not rise up again in the IO.
LD must be saying to himself that it would be another tough fight if he goes to IO. He would prefer to stay and fight another day when he is more rested and Boonsak more tired.
As I said before, a change in the winds is imminent. The badminton 'landscape' has changed. Taufik and now Boonsak have shown the way. Who is next -- LCW, PG, or maybe Simon Santosa ? China is no longer as domineering in Singles this year coz we have Lee Hyun Ill, PG, Taufik, and Boonsak grabbing honours. I feel there is more to come.
With LD out of the IO, a chance is available for somewhat to step up and take honours. For me, LCW again features in my expectatation -- he was shitting in his pants when he lost to Hafiz (after leading him in the 3rd set for most of the way). If he was here reading in this Forum, he would have been further upset reading the crap put up here against him. They say REVENGE is sweet and I think it will be sweet if LCW steps up and win the IO. Malaysia Boleh !

Hi, I am new with this forum thing..
so here is my 2 cents.
We used to have only Thomas Cup and All England, and all players focus on these 2. Now we have 12, in May we have 2 back to back.
Players are just like everyone, their mood changes, you have a good day, dont be too happy, and when you have a bad day, dont feel too lowsy, its not the end of the world. Everyone wants to be and beat the champion or the number 1 seed. Unlike the old days., you cant win them all no more.
there are no players nowadays that can say " I will beat you 8 days a week", anytime, any place., like Rudy Hartono did...
It would be nice that every country win some events instead of All China all the time, I am Chinese, but I like the game of badminton to be played and enjoy by both players and also spectators. That will be great.
Have a nice day, thanks. JPP. Phil.

Seriously, if I were LD, I would take a break. It is physically and mentally tiring to play at the highest level. When you are fresh, your mind is more akin to winning.
LD had a successful 2006, and 2007 should be a 'take-it-easy' one before the 2008 Olympics. Everyone should make sure they don't burn out else the 2008 Olympic could be an abysmal year.
abedeng 05-07-2007, 10:06 PM With 4 top players, technically China can just rotate Lin Dan/Chen Jin with Bao/Chen Yu.
But I think after the Sudirman Cup, top CHN players will "disappear" before coming back in August for World Championships. That's why they dominated the last one in Seville, and only Gao Ling/Zhang Jun's loss prevented a clean sweep.

That's a good one. Could have some truth in it, afterall, if you ain't gonna like me one bit and enjoy my performance, might as well do some sight-seeing & go shopping. Naughty....naughty....

Hi, I am new with this, so here it goes.
You are in China., so I reckon you shud have more update info re the chinese team. They probably has 20 players just as good as Lin Dan waitng on the sideline but China just dont want to show the world yet. Its a long term process, not to win a few tournaments and brag about it.
Dtas the problem with Indonesia and malaysia, the old is too old and the young ones are too young..it takes more than a few great players to be successful in the sports of badminton, especially nowadays, its all $$$, sponsorship, TV broadcast.. and so on.
We shud all look at the big picture, for the games of badminton, instead of always looking atwhen LD or taufik is going to get mad with each other again... Thanks for your patience. just my thoughts. JPP PHIL.:)

Dats another good one.,
At least you know you are being missed...
At least we know that if anyone else wins, Lin Dan can say I was injured, want at the tournament.. great move... you are thinking... good job.:D
X Ball 05-07-2007, 10:58 PM Joyous, we succeeded, if that is the case, in getting rid of him. He can go shopping anytime !:D

I hope CJ wouldn,t bother with the roaring as I know his Mental very strong,in SO I believe that he alrready give the best, Rubber sets , Tomorrow would be the hard game for Him, I hope he win.... Jiaaaaaa you CJ
bhtan 05-08-2007, 12:04 AM I think LD wanted to revenge...any one knows why LD has WDN...may be like INDRA said that LD is afraid to meet TH ...hehe ( if TH can survice from CJ first)...:D
Saw TH at SO playing Gade, i feel his condition wasn't good. TH played the same style throughout the two set, he lag gade throughout. He must be resign to losing or his fitness doesnt allows new initiative.
i will be watching TH's performance in IO, see whether my observation of him is correct.

Did you know TH smokes ?? When you smokes, you always have problem...JPP PHIL.
KlasseE 05-08-2007, 12:39 AM For LD, I'm pretty sure he has not recovered the serious injured since SO.
He participated the SO just to find out how far he could go! as advised by LYB.
He was really lucky before SO as he was mentally fit, as compare with other opponents.
Now he must take a longer time to catch up his performance. Then it's time for BS, CY, SS, SK and even LCW to go several steps forward in font of him.....quite interesting, but it's fact that don't think you are an iron-man capable to take part GO, AE and SO which last for 3 weeks time w/o rest.
CLELY 05-08-2007, 12:48 AM Everyone is just guessing about LD withdrawal, even INA SS PanPel/the organizer only received another camouflage reason, exhausted after competed in SIN SS last week or not yet recovered from SUI SS injured. What exactly happened with LD?? It's secret.
KlasseE 05-08-2007, 01:00 AM One thing is sure that LYB never tell the truth all the time.
They are expert in covering everything with camo net.
When they said CJ was seriously injured and pulled out in final of GO but the coming week CJ just entered the final in AE!!! unbelievable.........
liying_0505 05-08-2007, 01:06 AM Aikksss..... wat personally matter? Wanna buy wedding ring for xxf????
Better get marry and cabut....dun wanna c his arrogant face anymore. =P
Haha ...joking, LD's fans, dun be angry.
huangkwokhau 05-08-2007, 01:26 AM Thats why it is good not to have al chinese final...last week...gao Ling was injured...now she is okay and will play in WD and XD...so it is tough not to question LYB's player...anyway...I hope that LD will play again...either fans like him or hate him...poor LD!!!
KlasseE 05-08-2007, 01:47 AM Not to be too serious, I don't think the fans will HATE LD. Maybe they just dislike his attitude when he won, throw his T-shirt to the fans, or when he lost, refuse to accept the 'hat' from the organizer...
pjswift 05-08-2007, 02:53 AM   :crying: ...LD not going to IO...:( not fun anymore!sigh..What do you mean, not fun anymore! You mean you want to see LD go out in the 1st round with the INA crowd against him? LD has often, if not always, won because the crowd was behind him.Crowd support for him dwindle after the MO06 incident. Not only that, in MAS, SIN and INA, the crowd would be against him so this region is his nightmare.
pjswift 05-08-2007, 02:58 AM LEE CW can easily get through to the Semi-Finals this time!!!!!!!!!
I think .
Tell LCW not to underestimate his opponents esp. SS because of INA crowd.
pjswift 05-08-2007, 03:06 AM Just curious to know why LD withdrawn....he has not done it before...
LD only plays to win a title. When the chance is nil, he just chickens out. I believe he did that to TO06 after defeating LCW in MCO06, with nothing left in the tank. LCW continued on to honour his commitment well knowing he also had not much left to win the title. The difference is courage and respect for fans.
pjswift 05-08-2007, 03:13 AM the draw has been very kind to chong wei... the only ones he has to be careful of is just hafiz, simon santoso, chen hong, ronald susilo and kenneth jonassen.. i think he has good records against all of them before this.. but still, before is before.. wad bout now????:confused::confused: and im celebrating my 1000th post here!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D
No draw is kind to anyone in the SS.
cindie 05-08-2007, 03:46 AM With or without LD, the show will have to go on.. I believe there are other players who can also contribute the same momentum like LD.. Taufik is there, isn't it? :D The real reason behind his withdrawal, I guess we will never know.. Only those close to him or some China badminton officials may know.
Seems that ants knows..though :D :p

Joyous 05-08-2007, 04:39 AM LD was quoted by the press at the AE 07 final that he would like to go back to CHN to rest & prepare for Sudirman Cup. Don't think his request was granted & the rest is history.
Every player plays to win, more so if you are expected to. So LD is no exception. Don't understand the fuss over LD's withdrawal because there are also other good players who have done that at one point or another. When you are not up to mark and forces yourself to play and lose badly, the coaches and fans will not be happy. Either way, the player loses.... kinda sad, uh.
huangkwokhau 05-08-2007, 06:32 AM Chen Yu withdrew also tonight.....sigh!!!
X Ball 05-08-2007, 08:11 AM Chen Yu withdrew also tonight.....sigh!!!
After the 3-set loss to Boonsak, the next best thing is to lie low for a while.:D
In any case, it must have taken a toll on him. He was fully stretched by Boonsak and if his body is not in stress mode now, I would be surprised.
I think it is a good thing for him to sit this one out and let the body restore itself. I think LCW at some point last year exerted so much bodily stress on himself it might have in some way contributed to his injury as well as his current form.
LD must be doing the same and I hope nothing serious come out of the stress they put on themselves. The amount of jumping smashes will work against his knees later. There is a price to pay being top sportsmen.
LI De Quan 05-08-2007, 08:56 AM Reason:
LYB said LD was not plan to play in I.S.S. .
huangkwokhau 05-08-2007, 09:00 AM Reason:
LYB said LD was not plan to play in I.S.S. .
But why they registered him in I.S.S as well as chen yu....??
JaCk™ 05-08-2007, 09:20 AM correct, why register Lin Dan and Chen Yu if they do not plan to play from the beginning? this is affect the organizer and fans who had bought the tickets.

People and fans give bad rep to LD....poor LD!!!:crying: :crying:
I know fans here will bash him, etc....:( Now INA players have more chance to win...with asterick (*)
