I just finished browsing quickly both of the R16 threads(in about 2+ hrs), and wow, it's just unbelievable!!! I didn't see how many active users actually came last night, but looks like the new upgraded server held up..:cool: I think this is the most posts in a thread, ever in BC, for a single tourney!! Too bad i missed the fun, but i'm sure it was enjoyable to the rest who followed it!!...I

Some comments on R16 day...
Noticed a few big upsets/surprises. One of them involving Andre Kurniawan in a hard fought 3 setters against his veteran KJ. The other one involving ChengSC of Taiwan in straight sets over XXF. And one semi upset involving Maria Kristin in a tough 3 setters over LuLan. 2 more surprises involved 2 XD matches; one from KOR pair beating out Sudket&Saralee and the other one(semi-upset) involving ZJ&ZTT over ENG's top pair. The rest of the competitions and matches went pretty much as expected, with a few close sets.

*One last thing: thanks to all the members who've contributed to the forum by giving score updates and basically keeping the forum alive. And a special thanks to abedeng for taking over score update duty, for whatever amt of time. Yes, in general, overwhelming favourites may not be the eventual winners. However, in such a "fantasy MD-only TC", Mas is still the overwhelming favourite to start with. What if we rank the five badminton powerhouses merely by comparing their overall strengths in MD department since SS was launched early this year ...

(1) Mas - (Joint No.1) CTF/LWW & KKK/TBH; (Joint No.3-4) CCM/HTH, Fairuzizuan/Fakry (They eliminated World No.2 at their 3rd tournament, so they deserve to be here even though this is a new pair), (No.5) OSH/TBS (reserve) GTC/LWH or CCE/HCH

(2) Ina - (No.1) TG/CW (assume that they are allowed to represent Ina); (No. 2) MK/HS; (No.3-4) Luluk/Alven, Eng Hian/Rian, (No.5 & reserve) Hendra/Joko, Sigit/Fran

(3) Kor - (No.1) JJS/LJJ; (No.2) HJM/HSH; (No.3) YYS/JJB; (there are a few more more low-ranked, obscure pairs)

(4) Chn - (No.1) Fu/Cai; (No.2-3) GZD/XZB, SY/HHB (no more pair unless they "reuse" GZD, SZB, SY and HHB to form new combinations, or promote non-national pairs)

(5) Den - (No.1) JE/MLH; (No.2) LP/JR; (No.3-4) Simon/Anders, Mathias/Joachim, (there are a few more low-ranked, obscure pairs)

Either such a fantasy team event involves top-5 pairs (best-of-5) or top-3 (best-of-3) pairs, Mas is the overwhelming favourite due to its more balanced team. However, Ina and even Kor may have a better chance if only top-3 pairs are involved.

Mas seems to be on its way to become 1990s' Ina where any combination of MD could become world beaters. Well, the coach who deserves the biggest credit happens to be an Indonesian.
