This website really looks great but for some reason I just can't see the videos! I registered for the website and I use Internet Explorer as they recommend, but I can only see the videos where you do not need to log in/confirm... the ones where I need to confirm that I 'buy' the (free) video, it says 'connecting to media' ... then is says I can play the video but as I click 'play' it says 'connecting to media' again and so on...

Anyway... you guys got any tips to make the videos work?? (like version of Internet explorer or something like that)

Thanks for the heads-up Gollum. I agree that there is some very good stuff there. Note that these vids probably will not work properly with a dial-up connection -- you'll need somthing faster, I believe.

If you can get your hands on it, I recommend the video tape, Play to Win, also by Lee Jae Bok. If I recall correctly, it was done in the early 1990s -- when Lee was much thinner. Unfortunately, it is probably very difficult to find copies of this video tape any longer.

( I recall that LJB was selling copies on another web site a few years back -- not sure what tape format it was tho' and I don't know if that site is still active).

1) Open windows media player (they are using windows media player to show the videos through your browser)

4) Close windows media player, open the website again and try viewing the video...

I would agree with Jerby 100%. His videos are excellent, he has a wonderful way of breaking down the little details. He demonstrates what the common player mistakes are and why they are detrimental to your game. Following that, he will demonstrate his adjustment/suggestion and why it improves things for your game. All in all there were alot of little details that I never considered from doubles positioning to footwork. Greatly recommend his videos.

I attempted to register & repeatedly got a system message saying that the Security Code I had entered was invalid (even tho' I had typed in correctly). I sent an email to info@ibbs.tv (info@ibbs.tv) about the isssue.

Didnt exactly get a reply, but when I tried it the next day it worked the 1st time. Shortly after that, I received the confirmation (validation) email. When I clicked on the link provided in the email, I was informed that the account already had been validated. Go figure.

Try the email address above & see what happens the next day or so.

I you have problem with the video, because the video freezes or something:

the problem is the BUFFER!

Open Media Player, go to Extras and options...

Under one tab you will find something like network-buffer or just buffer

Don't use the recommended standard buffer...

Click above and use 60 second buffer...

Now the video should run without problems

BTW: the videos are only free to watch, you are not allowed to dl

Please note:

Although these videos are free to view for now, they are not free to copy or distribute. You are not supposed to download the videos.

Once this limited offer expires, you will have to buy the videos if you want to watch them again. Every time you buy a video, you get access for a period of 5 days. If you want to watch it again after that, you have to buy it again.

Alternatively, you can buy the IBBS DVD, which has all the videos and is not time-limited.

Okay, let me try to make this clear. It's really quite simple.
Until 7 June, you may watch any video for free.
After 7 June, you must pay for a video if you want to watch it.
You are never allowed to download the videos. After 7 June, you have two options for buying the videos:
Pay to watch a video on the website. Your video will expire after 5 days. If you want to watch it subsequently, you must buy it again.
Buy the IBBS DVD, which has the full set of videos. Then they are yours forever. Please respect Lee's business:

I have had several requests from people asking how to download the videos.

Although I do know how to do this, I will not tell you. It would only take one unscrupulous person to share the videos, and then Lee's business would be ruined.

I ask anyone who has figured this out to keep quiet. Please show your respect for Lee by not destroying his business.

For those people who want to own the videos permanently, I can only suggest you buy the DVD.

It could be that the IBBS server is down cuz so many of us are now trying to access the free videos.

I believe that the only videos on the IBBS site that you are allowed to download are the 3 or 4 videos sample videos that are listed in the section Free Videos (under the Main menu).

However, I'm not sure if those special videos are still in a format that allow downloading. I had dl'd 3 of those teaser videos quite a while back since I was using at dial-up connection at the time & was unable to stream them at all.

I agree with Gollum & the others - do NOT attempt to download any of the videos that are not intended for download. Stop asking for ppl to dl them for you. It's not good for LJBs biz & its not good for the badminton community. If anything but the 3 or 4 sample vids show up on YouTube or some other distribution network, we will all suffer in the long run.

Yay, looks like the IBBS server is back up.

I tried the xt6666 suggestion for the video stall problem. All the vids I've looked at are now in sync. With Win Media Player 11, go to

Tools menu --> Options... --> Performance tab

I set my buffer to 40 seconds & it works just fine.

Curious -- after the fixes suggested by xt6666, Mathieu & others, are ppl still having other problems? If so, are your able to watch or download the sample videos on the regular Free Videos page (Yes, it is ok to dl the sample vids) ...

mettayogi

Yes, this solved my initial video freezing. 30s worked for me. How much buffering (in sec.) is necessary depends on how fast is your network connection. The slower your connection, the longer buffering is needed.

I've GOT to say how ASTOUNDING these videos are. Without doubt the most detailed and helpful training aids out there (short of having your own coach!)

Lee goes into the most minute facet of every technique, FAR deeper than any book I've ever read on the subject, and his tips REALLY DO WORK.

I watched the video on smashes and immediately went into the back garden to try some out. By God, they were going at least 20% faster and sounded like shotgun blasts, all thanks to a little grip change. I also noticed a lot less wrist pain afterwards.

I had similar results with his guides to backhand drives, and his hints on low serves are incredibly subtle - not the sort of thing covered in the average eight of an inch badminton book.

Watch all these videos QUICK before they become un-free.:D

Insisting on IE is a terrible piece of web design. It's entirely unnecessary.

If you can't/won't use IE, then you could use Opera. Opera can identify itself as IE, fooling the website.

Interestingly, I now get the same error message ("problem copying file"). It worked before, however. Perhaps they are running into bandwidth problems with all the BC visitors.

I noticed that I was able to watch the sample videos (http://ibbs.tv/IBBS/home/freevideos.aspx) using Firefox 2 on a Max OS X machine. You can even download these 4 videos (3 instruction vids).

However, when I tried to access the any of the full-length vids, the video window that opened up informed me that I needed IE 5 or Greater.

Don't kno if it's applicable to your situation but have you looked at the fixes described in post #12 and post #37 of this thread?

You might need to do something similar to fix your problem. It very likely will be a bit different than what is described in those posts, but perhaps they will give you ideas on how to solve your specific prob.

Thanks for trying to help! Sorry to include all this geek stuff. Yes, I can see the 4 free sample videos on Firefox on my Mac (in your link in post 70). :) It's the full length videos I am having problems with, it insists on having IE 5.0 or greater. I have tried Opera, but no videos work on Opera at all... I have a way of playing Quicktime and WMV videos on my Mac but it seems to only work with Firefox. I am not familiar enough with Opera to figure out why this is the case.

I've also checked out the IE-Tab extension for Firefox and its not available for the Mac. :(

For those of you who could afford another Yonex AT900 Technique, I urge you to buy LJB's DVD sets instead. They're the best investment I have ever made. He made alot of things on court simple and comprehensible. With his credit as a world renown coach, I have little initial doubt when I bought a set from him. It took awhile to receive the goods, but it's well worth the wait. I could say that his videos brought my game to a new level. Things like grips and strokes were shown and reinforced by reasons behind the techniques. I would say that comparing to professional private and group coaching, Lee's videos are the next best alternative.

Once you have review his free stuff, please consider what value his video lessons could bring to your game and make a commitment. If you're serious about improving your game, this DVD set is a necessary purchase.

oki, I got it working on linux but it involves quite a lengthy process. I also think it is against their terms of service, which by the way I can't view...so I'm not completely sure I'm violating them... Anyways, the process basically involves ripping the videos off the website viewer into wmv/asf files which I then play on my desktop. I'm more then willing to upload these for people who are running into problems to watch. The issue now is how to interpret their missing rules?

Thanks!!!! I scoured the internet and managed to find a copy of IE 5.2x available for the Mac. I tried looking last night but couldn't find it, but this time managed to locate a copy. I have the VLC media player and the videos work fine! Thank you again. :) I've got a lot of viewing to do before 7th June....

It says till the 18th now? Have they been changing the dates?

Unfortunately IBBS never did provide the dial-up versions of the videos as they had intended. You might try playing with the buffer size as suggested earlier in this thread but I suspect that it will only help slightly, if at all. Your best bet is to see if you can use a faster connection at a friend's/relative's place or at a university or public library (you will probably need headphones).

I am also sending you a PM (private message).

Good god, no!

Please don't do this. As soon as you start distributing Lee's videos, you undermine his business model and IBBS may be forced to shut down.

I know the videos are free at the moment, but they won't be for long. Lee will only continue to make videos if he can make money from them.

Please don't tell people how to rip the videos either. That would have the same effect.

I know it's annoying that IBBS insists on IE and that their streaming video playback is choppy. I understand that people have legitimate reasons for wanting to download the videos. But please: don't help them do it! You risk irreparably damaging Lee's business, and thereby impoverishing the badminton community once he can no longer sell his videos.

Something of a violation since your ripped videos probably won't expire in 5 days as the streamed ones do. Uploading them for others would constitute a major violation since this could jeopardize LJB's business by making them available for general distribution. Keep them to yourself.

Thnx for the update on the new deadline.

@Dummey:

If you can't watch the videos because you use Linux, than you have to BUY the DVD

OR:

install a second OS that can use IE or Firefox (and then install IE-Tab extension for Firefox)...

So if you want to watch the videos you boot with the other OS, and if not, you boot with Linux!

After June 18th, ALL VIDEOS WILL NOT BE FREE ANYMORE!!!

Also the videos, that are now free will not be free anymore!

So DO NOT rip the videos and upload them!!!!!!!!!

jrong

I fully appreciate and respect that the videos should not be replicated or freely distributed on the internet! However, I hope someone points out to the IBBS admin that restricting viewers/subscribers to one OS and one browser-type is severely restricting... I was a Linux user before I switched to the Mac. Even a great number of Windows users do not use IE at all. So, it would be good business sense if they made the videos compatible with a wider range of OS/browsers. Just my 2 cents. :)

Okie, duly noted everybody's opinion and I will not upload them. I originally planned on deleting them after I finished watching them anyways, which would probably be before deadline. No, I have not taught anybody how to rip it.

@ xt666: this would mean that I'd have to go buy another operating system, which a) cost money and b) seems slightly silly. Secondly, a time restraint can be put on the videos so that they would "expire" by the 18th.

@everybody else: I think there is a slight misunderstanding here. I didn't intend to upload them as raw video files, but as streams on a separate server which could be taken down when the deadline hits. This just offsets the load on the ibbs servers and prevents the silly IE only situation.

Anyways, another solution for linux users us to get autmatix and install a copy of opera. So far, it allows me to login and get the video popup, now to figure out how to play the actual video.

Probably best to get an IBBS ok to do this. Have a feeling that they'd still be uneasy about this -- probably would not be too wild about the idea. But go ahead & contact them with your proposal -- they might go for it.

I've watched everything on the site

my view is that the Videos are exceptionally well done, but I feel that the site is incomplete. There are many areas that are not talked about and that are more important to my game than what was shown

I also felt that I already knew (or agreed with) about 70 percent of what he said - only about 25 percent of the info was new to me...

I am planning on buying them but I will go splits on the cost with some others and we will share them. At that cost it is not worth it for me alone to buy them.....Thats my honest opinion... I recommend them but it depends on your current level of understanding of the game.

Hopefully he will make more videos and release an updated DVD?

So what about the other 5% that you didn't account for?

My percentages would probably be similar (but would add up to 99% or so). I've not had a whole lot of formal training msyself but have picked up a lot of this stuff thru observation over the years. However, LBJ's videos contained quite a few gems -- stuff I had never realized before. Even some of the familiar stuff was a great reminder (since it's never been drilled into me).

All in all, viewing his vids have certainly been worth the time (& money) invested.

The other 5% was lost due to a) lag or b) poor English fluency (favorite phrase being "You do it!")

I absolutely agree with you here... these instructional videos will do so much more for you than any racket available in the market today.

After watching LJB's videos and utilizing the material in the videos, Bananaboy has turned into "Super Bananaboy level 10" in badminton now.:D

Already watch the IBBS video, i'm already practicing his knowledge on defending smashes, it helps me but got problems to lift it back to opponents backcourt. When the opponent is in attack position front back, when they smash the only thing i can do was block it and I'm trying to push it back to their backcourt, but the farthest that i can do was in their mid court. Any suggestions on how to improve my defense on smashing so i could lift it back to their backcourt to avoid the front attacking opponent?

I dont think the videos of the website will cost anything for a membership since, all the free videos he has now covers 95ish% (or more) of badminton. Everyone that knows about it prolly has already watched the videos that they want to improve on, only the people that havent watched the videos are going to pay. Also, I dont think he can add any extra videos since (I would say) all you needed to know about badminton is already there, so if he didnt charge money at the begining I dont think he will charge later in the future.

Are you absolutely certain that you were actually using IE-7 at the time you saw this message? It is not enough to have IE-7 on your PC -- you need to launch the IE application and then launch the video from an IE window (or an IE tab). Someone else here reported the very same problem but it turned out that their default browser was Firefox and they did not really have the IE application opened at all when they saw the message.

I think Lee may be struggling to complete his plans for IBBS. I hope he does get it started again; he certainly seemed very enthusiastic about it a few months ago, but I haven't heard from him since.

It seems pretty harsh that customers should not get their money refunded; I think that should have been his first action before closing the site.

If YES: perhaps NoScript does not allow Jave script for that website, so you have to "allow" it.

Or: Is Java scripting enabled in your firefox browser? Enable it...

Perhaps you could also use Internet Explorer (only for this site)

I have "IE View" addon installed in my firefox browser, so if a site does not work well with firefox, then I can right click and choose "open site with internet explorer"...

I found where to insert the link now!
And I can finally see... Something, but now it's lagging, it's stopping at one screen.

If you insert that link in a download manager...

But I didn't tell you that...

Well, I opened VLC media player then I clicked on open network stream, then I pasted the link into the box and checked Stream/Save.

So is the video still lagging?

If Yes: Insert the link in a download manager, wait till the 50 MB file is downloaded and watch it...

But first be sure that it's not against the "rules" of the site!

I think it should be OK, because the videos are for free.

Yes the video is still lagging, and I guess I'll try the download manager method tomorrow.
Any other solutions you can think of? :D

I know it was sarcastic, but the videos are hard work, so he wants money...

So I asked if you want to work for free...

Well, the first part lags, but when I move it to... Almost the last part, it runs smoothly.

I would work for free, but it depends what the work is.

Are you a millionaire?

I don't think Lee has a "normal" job, Badminton coach is his profession, so he can't do it for free after work...

BTW: he has 63 new videos... I wonder what 1 video will cost... :D

@Elixau: change the "buffering" option in your media player to maximum

Um, how do I change the buffering option on VLC Media Player?

Not the VLC player... Windows Media player...

Or does it also lag after downloading the video?!?
