View Full Version : Accomodation in KL for the WC 2007
Ramakristan 05-15-2007, 11:55 PM Hi Guys,
Ants has been a great help getting tickets for you guys out there from outstation and overseas.
For me, thought I help out by recommending you all a good, clean and reasonable accomodation which is only a 5 mins walk from LRT station and about 20 mins to reach LRT, Bt Jalil station.
For your information, I do not get commision or benefit from helping, just doing my part to help out coz I am a badminton fan freak myself, lol.
This place is not a hotel but a suite with 1 or 2 rooms and if not mistaken, it even come with breakfast throw in as well.
WEb site : http://www.pinganchorage.com.my/malaysia_hotel/kuala_lumpur_seri_cempaka_service_suites.htm
You can book directly or you can check with me for a cheaper rate than the one listed.
How come, the catch is I check thru an agent who gave me a better rate. I recommended to my S'pore cousins and family when they visited me and they were so happy for this well worth accomodation which is a just a 5 mins walk to Jaya Jusco shopping mall and to city as well.
If you guys out there interested, I am too happy to help along to find accmodation.
Cheers,
chris tan
That is a great recommendation. But i think there are few hotels situated near the Stadium like PEarl Point Hotel and Sri Petaling Hotel. However i don't know the rates. Based on the website for the suite.. its a good price.
Ramakristan 05-16-2007, 12:14 AM Hi ants,
I have seen the place and been inside the suite, it is very clean and a good view from above. If you come with about 6 to 8 persons, go for the 2 rooms suite, the sofa in the suite is also a bed as well.
Place is like a hotel and just a 5 mins walk to the LRT station.
Wait a minute, I think I have some pictures of the place, maybe I post the pictures later.
I believe there are a few hotels at Sri Petaling but a quite far walking distance from the Bt Jalil LRT station.
If anyone interested, please go to the web site posted or can get in touch with me here or my personal email, foilmad@streamyx.com
I am to happy to help out.
Cheers,
chris

ants, how faraway is it from the stadium then? thanks in advance.;)
Actually the place you recomend is good. Its near to the City Center as well just in case pll want to go shopping. :) The other hotels near the Stadium does have malls. But not much variety. They are like 5mins Cab ride to the stadium. But for Pearl Point Hotel is 10-15mins Cab ride to Stadium.
Another hotel is Mines Hotel. But its expensive.
hcyong 05-16-2007, 12:48 AM Actually, there are lots of places you can stay in KL which are near LRT stations. If you are not particular about quality, then it is very easy. Just find a room when you get to KL.
I would recommend accomodation near LRT stations rather than near the stadium unless you fancy some walking. Even the nearest hotel (Hotel Seri Petaling) may be a 30-minute walk from the stadium. And from what I heard, the hotel is usually fully booked.
Ramakristan 05-16-2007, 12:54 AM I am very sure those who go for the World Championship at Bt Jalil want to stay as near as possible to LRT station, what about shoppings and your trip won't really be complete unless you go to Low Yat Plaza good bargain for Pc softwares and hardwares, all the stuffs under 1 roof and it is just next to Sg Wang Plaza another good shopping bargains mall, lol.
These are the pics of the Seri Petaling Hotel. Which i think would be the NEAREST to the Stadium Bukit Jalil. Cost of Taxi would be around RM3 - RM3.50 from the Hotel to the Stadium which will take you around 5Mins. Walking distance would be around 1KM or 15mins walk. Outside this hotel does have cheap food stores, Mamak food etc. And you would probably bumb into our Malaysian players eating there.
The Downside is that this hotel is not near the KL Center if you wish to do shopping. However you can still take a LRT from the Stadium to the City center.
1st Picture is the Superior room ( cheapest ) RM276.00++
Promo Rate Now is RM 128Nett
2nd Picture is Junior Suite - RM598.00++ Promo Rate now is RM228Nett
3rd Picture is Executive Suite ( Most Expensive )- RM 759.00++ Promo Rate now is RM438Nett
4th Picture is the Map of the Hotel and you can see also a small box which indicate the stadium area.
For more details you can check this website. If you wish, you can book the rooms online too. http://www.asiapacific.com.my/hotelsripetaling/corporateinfo.html
ctjcad 05-21-2007, 04:49 PM ..ants..Hmm, looks like, by looking at the map, the hotel is conveniently located near the stadium; but i have a feeling the rooms will probably fill up quite rapidly as the WC dates near..Hmm, 15 min. walk is not too bad lah; good exercise by going back and forth..:p:)
Hmm, i think a taxi or LRT will definitely be needed for the shopping activities as there will be some stuff which will be carried along..Unless, if one wants to exercise & lose even more weight..hehe:p:D;)
smashmouth 05-25-2007, 11:04 PM How do i get to the stadium from the radius international hotel?
Ramakristan 05-26-2007, 11:12 AM How do i get to the stadium from the radius international hotel?
Hi smashmouth,
The hotel you are planning to stay is in the golden triangle shopping area ( Bukit Bintang), walking distance to the Monorail, just in front of the Sg Wang Plaza, take the Monorail and get off at Hang Tuah Station, change to LRT train to Seri Petaling Station where you get off, just a 5 mins walk to the Bt Jalil Stadium.
Happy to know you are coming for the World Championship.
Cheers,
chris

Wei wei wei, don't get down at Seri Petaling, that's the last station, get down at Bukit Jalil Station (2nd last station, the one before Seri Petaling)... it's 5 minutes walk to Putra Station where WC is held. If you get off at Seri Petaling Station, gosh... you might need to double back.

Putra Station = PUTRA Stadium... sorry yah, typo error. :D

Hi Ants, would you know the official hotel of the World Championship players?
Thanks.:)
huangkwokhau 05-26-2007, 12:29 PM Any budget hotels that you cna recommend? I may go also
Ramakristan 05-26-2007, 08:22 PM Oooops, you are right, don't get off at Seri Petaling Station but Bt Jalil Station, I thought SP station is the one getting off, anyway even miss it never mind, still can always turn back and drop off at BJ Station, no charge.
Cheers.
chris
smashmouth 05-27-2007, 09:01 PM Thank you Ramakristan and Misty100. Its nice to know that KL has a very good train system.
Ramakristan 05-27-2007, 11:02 PM Hi smashmouth,
Have you look into this service suite, quite reasonable and if there are 3 or 4 persons, all can jam into 1 place, n problem and just a train ride around 20 mins to reach Bt Jalil station.
http://www.pinganchorage.com.my/malaysia_hotel/kuala_lumpur_seri_cempaka_service_suites.htm
Check it out.

Thanks again for your help. I'm taking a bundled package from the travel agency so not sure if the hotel that you're suggesting is possible.
Just wanna ask how long is the travel time to and from Radius Hotel to Bukit Jalil, if we take the monorail and LRT?
Hi Ants, would you know the official hotel of the World Championship players?

No idea yet. Most likely Mines Hotel since its nearer.

Have not been taking LTR for ages in KL. My friend told me the ride itself will take approx 25-30mins excluding walking time.
Ramakristan 05-28-2007, 09:31 PM Hi smashmouth,
From Radius International HOtel to Bt Jalil Station, it should be around 1/2 hour max but always give allowance like peak time, rain and so on.
From hotel, just walk to front entrance of Sg Wang Plaza, take the Monorail to go to Hang Tuah Station, get off and change to LRT, to go to Bt Jalil, look for end station, Seri Petaling and not Sentul, jump into it and it will take you there in 20 mins or so. Have a nice holiday here and don't forget to shop till you drop, lol.
Cheers,
chris

Hi Rama, don't forget alternative trains going to Ampang Station do not go to Seri Petaling, and the split off is at Chan Siao Lin Station.
Just got the info. The Official Hotel of the World Championship 07 will be Mines Hotel known as Palace of the Golden Horses Hotel and Palace Beach and Spa. Both is the same vicinity and situated 10mins from the Bukit Jalil Stadium.
evan1222 05-29-2007, 10:02 PM Since the best mode is LRT, minus the traffic and parking..i would suggest u guys to stay somewhere near the LRT station. Need not be Sri Petaling. It's always full there. You can stay somewhere ie. Cheras, or anywhere. COuld be cheaper elsewhere compare to Palace of the golden horse and SP.
Ramakristan 05-29-2007, 11:36 PM Good part of staying at Palace Of The Golden Horses, you get to see and take pictures with players from China, Korea, Malaysia, England, Denmark.
Bad part is you need to pay more for accomodation, it won't be cheap, trust me.
There some good reasonable hotels at Bukit Bintang, all walking distance to Monorail/LRT station, at the same time, good shopping places as well, like killing 2 birds with 1 stone.
Best place still at B Bintang and foods plentiful at Jalan Alor.
The players will be staying in Holiday Villa Subang.. Thats will be good for me since its near my house. :) , Mines Hotel will also be the official Hotel as well
huangkwokhau 06-21-2007, 10:21 PM so which hotel I should stay.???..I think I will be in KL from Aug 14 to 17
No point for you guys in staying in Holiday Villa as it is far from the stadium. Nearest is still Mines Hotel.
huangkwokhau 06-21-2007, 10:51 PM No point for you guys in staying in Holiday Villa as it is far from the stadium. Nearest is still Mines Hotel.
Whats the rate for Mines??
You can check the rates here http://www.palaceofthegoldenhorses.com.my/
huangkwokhau 06-22-2007, 12:23 AM You can check the rates here http://www.palaceofthegoldenhorses.com.my/
Thanks...I think the rate is a bout US$ 175 to US$ 250....hm..I will check other rates after my alaska trip....
or you can also check out other accomodation options in this Thread which is posted by me and ramakristan. Not nessesary have to stay in the official hotel.

taneepak 06-23-2007, 02:25 AM How about trying a new hotel concept with no frills at www.tunehotels.com. You can also try the YMCA.
That hotel is too far from the venue. Will be a little hassle when comes to travelling. Howver the hotel is really Cheap.
CYW2006 06-23-2007, 09:06 AM ants, is it possible to get some bugdet hotel (rm100-rm130) thats near the stadium...
coz i have to arrange those for my china frens.... thanks
Ramakristan 06-23-2007, 09:25 AM Yes, Tune Hotel is also a great saving hotel, situated at the heart of KL, Sogo Shopping Centre just in front of the hotel, nearest LRT is about 5 mins walk, Sultan Ismail LRT, just behind the hotel, take this train, interchange or end station is Seri Petaling, it will take you to Bt Jalil LRT where WBC held.
angelatby 06-23-2007, 09:41 AM If want to save budget, then it will be near City Centre (which wont be NEAR to the stadium). So, it makes no different if stay in PJ or KL, because both will need to travel through commuters or buses. Actually, it is not very troublesome too, especially for people who wants to enjoy new places in Malaysia...
Hotel rated 3/4 stars can be found here (too many to list down) :-
http://book.easyhotel.com/city.asp?query=Malaysia+Kuala-Lumpur+MY+KUL+3+0
The Palace of Golden Horses & PB is consider quite expensive, im not to sure about the mode of transport (mostly people who stay there will DRIVE), although it is not consider far from the stadium.
Online or call to book is a no problem. However, please do not put high expectations for cheap hotel in Malaysia
V3i HoN6 06-25-2007, 10:16 PM Thanks...hope to meet you guys and have dinner party....hehehe
Come kwokhau, i bring you to eat TeoChew Mueh(porridge).
And perhaps most people would want to try the famous Bak Kut Teh(pork) in klang.
sorry to our muslims friends, but I can bring you guys to the famous Satay in Kajang too.
ants, is it possible to get some bugdet hotel (rm100-rm130) thats near the stadium...

As for budget hotel, i recommend Hotel Nouva in alor street. Quite decent one based on my friends last stay. The plus point is they got a whole street of hawker food along the street. Go with some local guy though, pricewise.

Ramakristan 07-10-2007, 10:33 AM Hi Guys,
Found another cheap accommodation at the KL International Youth Centre (IYC) at Bandar Tun Razak, just behind my place, Taman Midah.
Rate is $40.00 for single and $65.00 for a double. Only drawback, LRT train is about 1/2km away, you need to take a taxi to and fro.
Around this place are all sport centres like a public swimming pool, a stadium, a badminton hall, UKM hospital and hidden away, a great outdoor lake where in the wee morning, you get to see yound and old jogging around the lake. Only 1 eating place, KFC, a 5 mins walk from IYC.
I will try to post a few pictures nce a snap pictures of IYC.
Cheers,

Ramakristan 07-11-2007, 04:23 AM Hi Guys,
Okay, managed to take 2 pictures of the International Youth Centre (IYC) in KL where they do provide accommodation at a very reasonable rate, said all rooms come with air-cond with ample free parking and free use of the gymnasium as stated on the notice board. At the entrance, there is a security guard house. Single room and double room rate is $45 and $60 respectively.
It is very convenient if you are driving from outstation, better than YMCA. For guests from oversea, the nearest LRT station is 1/2 km away, taxi is the easiest from IYC to LRT.
If cost saving is what you want, IYC is the place coz it is also at the south part of KL, if not mistaken about 3 or 4 LRT away only from Bt Jalil.
Tel nos is there, for outstation, please add 03 and for international, please add 00 60 03 and foll0w by the IYC nos.
Pictures enclosed for viewing.
cheers
ctjcad 07-25-2007, 12:08 PM ..to M'sian based BC members:
Is Petaling Jaya area near the stadium?? If so, how far away(kilometres or minutes) away is Petaling Jaya from the stadium??...thanks much guys!!:)
Ramakristan 07-25-2007, 09:04 PM No, Petaling Jaya is not near to the Bt Jalil Stadium, all depend where you are staying. PJ is on the north west while stadium is on the south side, if staying at SS2, at least give yourself half an hour drive to reach Bt Jalil.
Hope it helps.
abedeng 07-25-2007, 09:06 PM Petaling Jaya is not too far from the Stadium, probably about 15 kms away (15-20 minutes) via Bandar Sunway, past LDP H'way and on towards Kesas H'way all the way to Bukit Jalil.
There is another way via Bandar Kinrara/Puchong, which is shorter (and cheaper for those who pay toll) but the roads are not smooth and you will pass roadworks near the National Stadium on the way in.
abedeng 07-25-2007, 09:08 PM ctjcad, if u are coming and staying in PJ, you'll want to stay at locations where taxis are readily available. There are no direct buses or LRT to Bukit Jalil.
One suggestion is Armada Hotel close to the Federal H'way, taxis are in abundance there. You can still take LRT, but budget more than 1 hour + you need to change LRT at Masjid Jamek station.

..and help, Ramakristan & abedeng:cool:..Yes, i've gotten a bit of infos also from ants & angelatby as well:cool:..And I think i have a better picture of the area now. With that said, i think it's better to stay in the Seri Petaling area or one that is in between downtown KL and Bukit Jalil/Seri Petaling, as staying in Petaling Jaya would be much further if i want to go to the downtown KL area...

kong-19 07-26-2007, 05:03 AM In K L, most likely I will stay at Jalan 0/155A Bukit Jalil golf resort
with a friend. Are there any KL, BC memebers living close by that area ?
Can someone tell me how far is it to the stadium. My walking speed
is a bit slower than on court.

Well, if you plan on walking, it's quite a steep climb to the stadium .... :D. Say about 3 kms.

Thanks for the information. 3km is a little far to walk.
Will it be easy and convenient to catch a cab ( taxi ) from the
stadium back to Bukit Jalil golf resort at night after the matches
finished.
abedeng 07-28-2007, 09:39 PM I am sure the taxis will be there, they always converge during big tournaments. Only problem is, they might not want to use metered fare and charge extra. This is always a problem with M'sian taxis.
Ramakristan 07-29-2007, 12:30 AM When games over, taxis will be there BUT they will never use metered fare rather than a 1 time charge which is always cut throat price guarantee. That is our problem with M'sian taxis and if I am the Minister Of Transport, I make sure they follow the rules or out they go. If S'pore taxis can do it, why can't our M'sian taxis, blame it on our government, they are not doing a good job after so many many complaints. I for one will never use our taxis.

..the people have no other choice, other than pay the 1 time charge, when they step in those taxis??..:p
Well if you take Taxi from MidValley to Stadium.. if they charge u one time rate.. sometimes they ask you for RM20 or RM25 or even more. The more reasonable rate is RM15 or less. However it is still best to follow meter.
Ramakristan 07-29-2007, 10:44 PM Be Warn, before stepping into taxis, insist that you want metered fare running, sometimes taxis may go for metered fare PLUS a top up cash maybe $5.00 or more depending on places. And if both parties agreed, you pay taxi fare plus a top up cash as agreed. Either way, customers always pay more. You have the right not to get into taxi and stop another taxi and start all over the hassle.
This is why I hate taking taxis in Kuala Lumpur !!!

..guys..Hmmm, on that note, can we REALISTICALLY get any taxis WHICH DO NOT charge a one time rate?? Or it will be NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE to get those?? Any specific taxis which we can avoid or should look out for, if at all??..:rolleyes::p

You can still get those which offer metered taxi. Usually those who offer Phone Service are the most reliable ones. They usually charge i think RM2 for Call in service and then followed by Metered fares.

..mind elaborating/explaining what you mean by this, for us??..Do we have to call them first??..
There are 2 services offered.
1. Is just to flag a taxi which have its risks as the will ask you for fixed price. 2. There are Call a Taxi service. U call a certain number , then the taxi will come to a place that you designate. The taxi will come to you. They will charge u for that service. Very minimal.. Around RM2 if i'm not mistaken. Then followed by the Meter charges. This service is more reliable and safer.

Ramakristan 07-30-2007, 02:53 AM Yes, its a good idea for Call A Taxi but I don't think they will come when games are over knowing there will be a big crowd and traffic will be bad as well. Its only good if you call from your place to go to Bt Jalil but not the other way round, too many cars and traffic will be 100% bad.:crying:

Chris, if you are staying at a hotel, just ask the concierge to get you a cab, normally those taxis don't do hanky-panky.

..thanks for the tips, guys!:)..No big deal, at least there will be plenty of taxis around, unlike here in SoCal during the World Championships, 2 yrs ago:p..I hope the taxis in M'sia are not much different than the taxis in S'pore..:p:cool:
Taxis in spore is much better.

huangkwokhau 07-30-2007, 09:19 PM wow....seems like Malaysian's taxi is worse than Indonesia..in Indonesia, Bluebird is the most reliable taxi...I guess I have to deal with it when I am in KL...well..at least 2 nights only,,,
abedeng 07-30-2007, 10:58 PM Quite true, Indonesian and S'pore taxis are better, Malaysian taxi drivers are about on par with Thailand cabbies, but the Thais drive Corolla Altis taxis.
Other hotels close to Sunway area would be Subang Holiday Villa and Sheraton.

lipans 08-01-2007, 04:03 AM For outsider without own transport, my advise is to stay at hotels near lrt station. No matter which one STAR or PUTRA LRT, both are connected at a certain station. It is easier to go anywhere such as bus stations, shopping complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, hotel, etc. The fare is not that much as compared to taxi.

..how long will the LRT ride take from KLIA to around downtown KL in comparison to taking a taxi??:p..Will it be quicker if one take an LRT all the way from KLIA to downtown KL??..Anyone mind elaborating that??
Taxi from KLIA to KL CITY will take around 1hr. LRT is much faster. Some people told me its around 20 to 30mins.
samuel882 08-02-2007, 06:01 PM KLIA Express --> KL Sentral : 25 mins. KL Sentral --> KL City Area --> 10-15mins

..thanks for the tips ants & samuel882...Looks like i'll be considering taking an LRT instead, but then will be carrying a few luggages & bags:p...
Btw, what is the difference between KL Sentral and KL City area?? What areas are considered KL Sentral & KL City area??...Can anyone give any info on the options for LRT routes from KLIA to KL Sentral and/or KL City??..thx:cool:
samuel882 08-02-2007, 06:16 PM KL sentral is the main transportation hub. Its about some miles away from KL CITY area..
At the moment, there isn't any LRT direct link from KLIA into KL town area. You needs to either take Taxi or use their KLIA Express Train.

..so, will the KLIA Express train take one from KLIA to KL City area or to the KL Sentral, first??..And where exactly is KL Sentral (what area)??..
samuel882 08-02-2007, 06:26 PM KLIA Express ONLY link with KLIA --> KL Sentral. No Stop at any LRT stations. passengers needs to go out from the train once reach KL Sentral and change into normal LRT & continue their journey into KL CITY..
KL Sentral is not inside the Urban Area. That area called Brickfields. BTW, ctjcad. Which parts of KL are u heading to?
u may referred to this link --> http://www.malaysiasite.nl/klsentraleng.htm for more info & oso the road link from KL SEntral to KL town via LRT..

..now it's clearer, thanks for the explanation & link...http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif..I'm planning to head and stay in the Mid-Valley area, halfway in between KL City and Bukit Jalil..I heard there is an LRT station nearby, but not sure how far away it is...But a 25 mins. ride from KLIA to KL Sentral/Brickfields beats a 1 hr. taxi ride, considering there could be some traffic jams along the way..:p..After arriving in KL Sentral/Brickfields, we can disembark and either take another LRT or taxi to the final destination (more options)..;)

..thanks for the maps, ants...:)
I'm really glad there are transportation systems like this, so much different than in L.A..It makes it much more convenient for people to get around from one place to another..
samuel882 08-02-2007, 06:50 PM ctjad.. If you carried large luggage, I would suggest you to take taxi from KL SEntral to Mid Valley.. Although the taxi fare there might not be cheap , but its really convenient for you as you no need to squeeze like sandwich with ur heavy luggages in the LRT which normally crowded especially during the peak hours ..

maryanne 08-07-2007, 02:49 AM Hi,
1. just need to know which would be a better choice in terms of distance from the venue---
1. Prescott Inn KL
2. De Palma Hotel Kuala Selangor
3. Shangrila KL
*Choices 1-3 part of tour package
4. Residence around Jalan Universiti, Petaling Jaya
2. From the given choices, would it be more adviceable to get a car or just go around via MRT?
Thanks
