How much better can you be from just training on your own, practicing footwork and weight training?

Also if you don't have a lot of players around your skill level to play against...

ASSSSUMING you practice about 4 hours a day...you know.:rolleyes:;):eek:

you can go pretty far training alone, but reaching the beginning stages of advanced level is probably as high as anyone can go without proper coaching

doesn't matter how often you train/practice alone, there is just no one there to correct you every step of the way. Once you meet your arch enemies at tournaments the lack of proper coaching will show.

you can get pretty decent. but nothing can replace real game play.

i have trained with many badminton players. most of them have really good basic skills, in fact, in terms of basic skills, they have much better basic skills than me. however, a lot of them lack in experience during real game play. strategy and tactics can only be taught up to a certain extend, the rest is really about going out there and playing against similar or better opponents.

Hi Cramps;580490,
To train by yr own and playing with better players is good. But getting good coach n trains v be better. To be trained by good coaches especially from different countries v be more interesting. Because different coaches have different emphasis and different methods of training. Some tend to emphasize on physical aspects but other tend to put more attention on strokes, techniques n strategy. :p Of course to get a good coach comes with a price sometimes.;) The best is if u have a chance to observe his or her coaching v be ideal. See if the coach's style is suitable for u.;) A good coach can rectify yr mistakes, improve yr techniques and advise on playing strategy, besides getting all the basic right.:D

I think the results could vary depending your age, physical condition and skills level. For the average amateur player, just improving the physical fitness condition would allow him/her jump a level or two higher.

But other important aspects of the game may be missing, as pointed out by Kwun. I don't think you can improve much your tactical ability nor your technical department - footwork and shuttle-hitting ability. For this you need to train with other players or under a coach.

this will be the part that impedes your progress greatly...i'll recommend u find a few players slightly better than yourself and train together, with drills + games
