View Full Version : CCC Section 1 League, Every Sunday in June
DoublesPlease
05-28-2007, 06:38 AM
Hi,
We have enough interest in Section 1 to play each Sunday this month. The teams will not be fixed however players can add their name to a list starting each Monday. The game structure on each night will be determined by the number of players that have committed for that night.
It is my intention to run the draw at Friday supper preceding each Sunday. This will not balance teams any better however it will increase transparency. So, unless someone can come up with a better way the hat will be making a special guest appearance each Friday night.
So, if you are a section 1 player and would like something a little more competitive than the social play please add your name to the list.
If anyone has suggestions then please add.

Wildcard again for me? please? :)
Hey Hagane,
The numbers don't really matter as we can provide for 3+ players per team. I would prefer an even number of players however even when odd I believe we can put together a set of games that will roughly even out the number of games everyone plays.
So when you're sure you can play add your name to the list.

Chris & DP,
I am a bit confuse with our Sunday CCC. Since we are having both section-1 and section-3 league this Sunday and maybe CATS as well, is there any room for social?

Chris & DP,

Hey BF,
The two leagues will share 3 courts leaving 1 court for CATS or social, which it will be depends upon demand.

Thanks for clarifying, DP.
In case Chris can't get enough CATS for Sunday, maybe we can get him into this League as well. It will be a lot more fun. Chris is getting too fat from our suppers. He needs the extra run. :p :p

Hi BadFever,
At the moment, please don't you worry about our events on Sunday CCC@Waverley on 3-Jun-2007.
Your Section 1 Leagues Games will definitely be on !!! :):):)
These are the probabilities of getting what could be happening on Sunday 3-Jun-2007;
* 100% - Section 1 League Games (organised by DoublesPlease)
* 100% - CCC Social Games (organiser: helmut)
* 95% - Sunday CATS (organiser: chris@ccc)
* 5% - Section 3 League Games (organiser: hkhung)
But if hkhung can get enough players for his Section 3 League Games, then chris@ccc will cancel Sunday CATS. :):):)
Cheers... chris@ccc

Hi BadFever,

Chris, you misunderstood my post. I didn't mean ONLY 3-Jun-2007. This thread is "Every Sunday" isn't it? If not, then the title of the thread should be changed.
Hence, I think we can try to achieve these probabilities for every Sunday,
* 100% - Section 1 League Games (organised by DoublesPlease)
* 100% - Sunday CATS (organiser: chris@ccc (chris@ccc))
* 100% - Section 3 League Games (organiser: hkhung)
What do you think, Chris?

Chris, you misunderstood my post. I didn't mean ONLY 3-Jun-2007. This thread is "Every Sunday" isn't it? ...
Hi BadFever,
This thread is "CCC Section 1 League, Every Sunday in June".
Sorry that you have asked in this thread and I have replied... that we, ie DoublesPlease, hkhung, helmut and I are working on all the activities, stage by stage, for our Sunday Session, thereby causing you to think that this is a general thread for our Sunday Session. :):):)
However, because DoublesPlease has made our Section 1 League a success. So, it has been 100% designated/appointed for our Sunday Session. :):):)
Thread "CCC League Games Trial #4" is located at:
http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44000
And at the present moment, it doesn't look so promising, requiring 8+ participants but only 5 have put their hands up. But hkhung is still working on it. ;););)
The "Every Sunday" thread that you have mentioned is located at:
http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43362
This thread is structured similar to our "Every Wednesday" thread.
For Sunday Social Games: Only 8 played on our first Sunday and a miserable 3 played :(:(:( on our second Sunday. So... is there is a chance of success for our Sunday Social ?:confused::confused:
For Sunday CATS: So far we have 3 interested, but we require 4 trainees to commence. So will there be 1 more interested ?:confused::confused:
... If not, then the title of the thread should be changed.
What do you think, Chris?
So... I don't think we should change the name of this thread. ;););)
Cheers... chris@ccc

It's great that 4 players(listed above) have shown their commitment. :):):)
One of the hardest thing facing organisers(of events) is getting response from players.
So... thanks to the 4 who have responded/committed. :):):)
BTW, it is great that andrewlwy, who missed out on all 3 earlier trials, can be involved in this one.
And many@ccc still mix up our andrewlyw and our andrewghw. :p:p:p

Maybe we should organise a "Moonlight Badminton" session. Anyone been to "Moonlight Bowling" before. Basically, the centre will extend the opening time till 5am/3am in the morning. Everyone pays a once off fee for the whole night (normally 3 times the standard fee) and you play til you drop (not dead). :)

We have seven players. Rather than play two teams, we will play a selection of player combinations as a group and the three players with the highest games totals will be the winners.
It is possible that two of the resting players could be having a game of singles on the side. Is anyone interested in running a parallel singles games? Just to give you an idea of what's involved that's around 10 doubles and 10 singles games in 3 hours or so, last man standing is the winner.
If we can get one more player then we can go back to regular team play. Anyone else interested in playing to round out the numbers?

Did you say 10 singles games..:eek::eek: For someone who will always belong to the other 9 'not standing' man, most likely one who needs ambulance service after the 10th singles, I think I will help you come out with an alternative plan in case this happens in future. Hi BK168,
DP and I were hoping that BadFever, Fuji_, smashed_1 and you would convince my friends, Lichu-T and John-C, to join us in our CCC Sunday League Games when they were at our Suppertime@CCC.
But DP and I just didn't have enough salesmanship experience... :):):)
At our Suppertime@CCC, Lichu-T and John-C mentioned to us that they did enjoy our Social Badminton and they will be coming back... :):):)

Hi DP,
Is the draw correct and fair?
The draw seems to be lopsided. Players from the top half only partners with the top half while the bottom half only partners with members from the bottom half.
For example, the 2nd team, d & e will play 2 games and e & f will play 4 games. There are no games for a & e, a & f, b & e and b & f.

Hey Fuji,
Draw is as intended. Players were ranked according to historical handicaps in each team. The game setup is to favour pairings of similar rank. There's more information about the intent and the details of the game structure in the second league games thread.
Given we have 6 players in each team there are 225 pair versus pair combinations. We are only playing 18 games on the night so the majority of pair combinations will not be played. If anyone would like to have a go at modifying the games list for future games then please do so, I'd be happy to look at what you have.

Always had this idea in mind, even though it won't satisfy some aspects.
Each player plays 5x, partners each other once.
Level pairs only match.

EF vs EF
AC vs AC
BE vs BE
DF vs DF
AD vs AD
CE vs CE
BD vs BD
CF vs CF
AE vs AE
BF vs BF

AF vs AF
This arrangement may lead to ppl playing up to 3 consecutive games though.
What do you think? :)

06-16-2007, 03:56 AM
There are no games for a & e, a & f, b & e and b & f.
I've had a think about this, the game structure above was to compensate for the large skill gradient in the second games trial. For tomorrow I'll modify it slightly to remove the repeated games.
Small skill gradients enable player synergies; yep, been reading too many annual reports.

Hi DP,
Given we have 6 players in each team there are 225 pair versus pair combinations.
We obviously cannot play all the pair combinations. However the draw should be spread as evenly as possible. The draw seems to represent players from 2 sections.
The draw mentioned by hagane is a good start and is evenly spread.
Thanks,

I should probably mention one thing though. The reason that "level-only" doubles work is because you have more people than 4/5...
Restrictions is now not on the level of players, but rather, type of opponents played.. i.e. no BC vs CD and CD vs BC.
So it's up to what people prefer. Whilst I would like to be able to partner the same player more often (so that I don't have to think a few times during games about where to stand or what to cover :D), I would prefer to not have to play the same "pairs" too many times :o

Thanks BF,
Had a look at the software and some freeby web based stuff. I'll stick with my text editor and spreadsheet for the moment. We now have player rankings, details below. After discussions at Sunday night supper we'll try Hagane's game structure with some additions to pad it out to around 20-25 games, details soon (once we know how many are playing).
Rankings will be used to order players in a team if required by the game structure. Rankings are calculated by dividing the number of points won by the number of points lost across all games played. Aggregation began 27th May this year and will be updated each week.
As for publishing the rankings here in the forum, if no-one has any objections I'll list them each week for the regular players.
