I believe that this tounament is one of important events for players to be recruited to National team.

Please share with our BCers...
Thank you!

I think so..only INA players....as BWF will not allow each country to have moe than 1 Challenger....usually..If I am not wrong...many foreign players participate last time..Hope Sandy/Krisna/badmania can give more information....:p

It's used to be called Jakarta Satellite, but, the BWF has decided to award the Challenger event to Surabaya instead. So, we will only have one Indonesia Challenge later this year, to be sponsored as usual by Jawa Post Gudang Garam.

Wow, I didn't realize there's any interest in one of the 8 Indonesian Circuits. The Sumatra and West Java Circuits didn't receive any attention by the BC members... :p

Ok, here's what we know:
WS
Top half
1. Sylvinna Kurniawan
3/4. Bellaetrix Manuputu
Note: Rhanny Christina of PB. Djarum is an unseeded contender that will meet Bellaetrix in the R 0f 16. Anatatasya Emaya, formerly of PB. Djarum now at PB. Mutiara probably shall meet the winner of Bella-Rhanny in the quarterfinals.

Bottom half
3/4. Maria Febe
2. Maria Elfira
Note: Rosaria Yusfin Pungkasari is not seeded, but set to meet Febe in the Quarters. Fitria Firdaus from Kutai Kartanegara will challenge Fira in the R of 16. Fitria just won the SGS Elektrik West Java Circuit last week, beating Rhanny in the finals.

MS
Top Half
1. Andre Kurniawan Tedjono [Djarum]
5/8. Yoga Pratama [Tangkas]; 2006 National Junior finalist, top Tangkas player after Simon Santoso, Indra Bagus, and Alamsyah Yunus. I think I can safely say he is Tangkas' #4.

3/4. Nugroho Andi Saputro [Djarum]; 2006 National Junior winner
5/8. Wisnu Haryo Putro [Djarum]
Note: Other potential challengers include Wimpie Mahardi [Mutiara] who might meet Yoga Pratama in the R. of 32. Achmad Rivai [Ratih] that probably will challenge Nugroho in the R. of 16. Achmad was in Jaya Raya, I think. But now have moved to Ratih Banten.

PB. Jaya Raya does not have a strong MS after Ronald Susilo, Agus Haryanto, and Achmad Rivai left. Jaya Raya historically is slightly more concentrated on WS and WD development. They produced so many top women players like Susy Susanti, Mia Audina, Firdasari, Fransisca Ratnasari, Pia Zebaidah, Gresya Polii, and Bellaetrix etc. Jaya is also good in MD, with players like Tony Gunawan, Chandra Wijaya, Markis Kido, Hendra Setiawan, and Bona Septano. In MS, the only 2 notable names I know are Rudy Hartono and Sigit Pamungkas.

Bottom Half
5/8. Budi Santoso [Mutiara]; former All England finalist and winner of the first two leg of the Indonesian Circuit in Sumatra and West Java. Budi is currently Mutiara's best player. Before moving to Mutiara Bandung, Budi was the top player of PB. Djarum. After Budi, the 'top Djarum MS player' status went to Holvy de Pauw, who now plays at the German League. After Holvy, the 'top Djarum MS player' status went to Andre Kurniawan. :)
3/4. Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka [Djarum]; my choice as the next Indonesian star. ;) Last year he went to the Milo Junior Finals; defeated that MAS Jr. player Chan-something in the semis, I think.

5/8. Henry Aprilianto [Djarum]
2. Ari Yuli Wahyu [Djarum]; last week's Vietnam Challenge finalist
Note: Watch Ian Jovie Rien [Tangkas] who might meet Henry Aprilianto in the R. of 16. This guy whose name resembles BON JOVI is a talented guy, albeit a bit short in body height. :p

When is it? This week? Only INA players can participate?

Unfortunately yes... PBSI officials decided [incorrectly I thought] to not allow foreign players to participate in the 7 of the 8 Indonesian Circuits.

The 8 Indonesian Circuits, each with a minimum prize money of Rp 50 million [US$ 5700+ at the current exchange rate] are:

Sumatra
West Java
Jakarta
Central Java
Sulawesi
Kalimantan
Bali
East Java [also called the Indonesian Challenge, the only one where foreigners can compete]. Minimum prize money is US$ 15,000.Each of the Indonesian Circuit gives at least as much money as an International Series (BWF 4b level). Yes, BWF only allows 2 tournaments per country to be considered part of a BWF ranking event. But in my opinion, all the series should be interesting for the regional neighbours to attend. If the non-Indonesian plays, the country will get more business. :p Through selling food, hotel rooms, plane tickets, etc. And it is more fun & challenging for the up and coming Juniors to play against non-Indonesians. :p

Note: there are actually 4 other noteworthy badminton tournaments held in Indonesia where non-Indonesians can play...

Djarum Indonesia Open Superseries
Milo Junior International
Surya Cup [minimum prize money Rp 75 million or US$ 8600+]
Astec Cup [minimum prize money Rp 75 million or US$ 8600+]The latter 3 produces Indonesian PBSI ranking points, but not BWF ranking points. Either this year or next year, I heard there are organizers that will organize: Ratih Flypower Cup in Banten and Prasida Cup [or something like that] in Bekasi. Equivalent to the Surya Cup and Astec Cup with a minimum prize money Rp 75 million or US$ 8600+ for the Adult category.

In the future, Indonesia shall have around 12 tournaments [or more] that are at least an equivalent of an International Series. This shall encourage more and more youngsters to take up badminton... :D

In each of these tournaments, PBSI require that there are under 19, under 16, under 14 age categories to encourage the youngsters to compete more. On this point, I give PBSI a thumbs up credit! ;)

WD
Top half
1. Meiliana Jauhari-Shendy Puspa [Djarum]
3/4. Devi Sukma Wijaya-Irene [Mutiara]; Indonesia's rank #16 pair, but probably the de-facto #12 because some pairs on that list is not active anymore. Devi-Irene is the best pair out Mutiara Bandung.
Note: Rintan-Purwati [Djarum] will most likely meet Devi-Irene in the quarterfinals and beat them. Then Rintan-Purwati will meet Meliana-Shendy in the semifinals in a showdown of Djarum's top 2 pairs. Some would say that Mel-Shendy and Rintan-Purwati are probably the best 2 WD outside Pelatnas.

Bottom half
3/4. Luluk Maria Ulfa-Debby Susanto [Djarum]; 2006 Junior National finalist
2. Bellaetrix-Samantha [Jaya Raya]; 2006 Junior National champion
Note: We will most likely see a rematch of last year's marathon match at the Junior Nationals between these 2 seeded pairs. These 2 seeded pairs are rivals on the court, but friends if not facing each other. Bella-Samantha would clap & shout in support of Luluk-Debby if the Djarum pair is facing others. Potential challengers include Heni Budiman-Sandrawati Wijaya [Jaya Raya] who can meet Luluk-Debby in the quarterfinals. Sandrawati Wijaya is the younger sister of Chandra Wijaya...:D

MD
Top half
1. Fran Kurniawan-Yonathan Suryatama [Djarum]; I would say this new pair has a 80% chance of winning the MD title.
5/8. Indra Lesmana-Roby Chandra [Mutiara]; this #2 best pair of Mutiara is decent but has no special weapons.
3/4. Krisna Adi-Syarief Syahmi [Jaya Raya]; err, this Krisna is not me... :p Do not expect this Jaya Raya pair to be as awesome as Tony-Chandra and Kido-Hendra. They are ok, but nothing like their famous clubmates...:D
5/8. Suryono-Aseng [Riau]; they were finalist of the Sumatra Circuit earlier this year. Good fighting spirit but shall have problems with the top pairs with excellent techniques like Fran-Yoke.
Note: A. Rivai-Hafidwan Daya [Ratih] might give Fran-Yoke some resistance in the R. of 16, but not much of a resistance. :p David Pohan-Titon Gustaman [Djarum] might just go to the quarterfinals if they play Suryono-Aseng well. David-Titon should be more competent in techniques...

Bottom half
5/8. Rizky Kurniawan-Tri Kususmawardana [Suryanaga]; this pair better improve fast, otherwise Alvent might not have a decent backup in Suryanaga's team in the Superliga
3/4. Alfiat Yuris Wirawan-Wifqi Windarto [Djarum]; INA's current top Junior pair  apparently keeps playing in the adult category lately... Last week they competed at the Vietnam Challenge...
5/8. Dani Bawa-Komang S. [Djarum]; no decent accomplishment yet as an adult pair... I don't know what to say about this pair other than Dani was the 2006 National Junior champion with Alfiat while Wifqi-Komang were the runner ups. Djarum must have split the pair because Dani is 19 this year while Alfiat and Wifqi are still 18.
2. Enroe-Agung Rohanda [Mutiara]; one of the best pair outside Pelatnas
Note: Ade Lukas-Hadi Saputra [Djarum] should challenge Enroe-Agung in the R. of 16. The two pairs have met before in the Superliga qualification. At that time, Ade-Hadi was loaned to PB. Musica Champion Kudus. Although the head-to-head history is 1 : 1, I think Enroe-Agung shall prevail agains Ade-Hadi.

I expect Enroe-Agung to give a decent fight before going down to Fran-Yoke in the finals. I think the MD category should be the most fun to watch in this Jakarta Open. ;)

Krisna

XD
Top half
1. Enroe-Devi [Mutiara]; INA's top XD pair outside Pelatnas :D
3/4. Ade Lukas-Purwati [Djarum]; last year's Surabaya Satellite champion...
Note: A lot of unknown Djarum new combo in the top half... Enroe-Devi will face Dani Bawa-Shendy Puspa [Djarum]:confused:. While Fran Kurniawan-Rintan Apriliana [Djarum]:confused: may well face the winner of that clash in the quarterfinals... Ade-Purwati can face Syarief-Samantha [Jaya Raya], the unseeded pair but with potential, in the quarterfinals.

Bottom half
3/4. Wifqi Windarto-Debby Susanto [Djarum]; Dutch Junior finalists... played in the Vietnam Challenge and Thailand Series... INA might depend on them to get the XD title at the Asian and World Junior...
2. Afiat Yuris-Luluk Maria Ulfa[Djarum]; yes, apparently Djarum has a lot of Maria-s [Luluk Maria, Maria Kristin, Maria Elfira, Maria Febe...]. This pair is also groomed to play at the Asian Junior and World Junior...
Note: Wifqi-Debby might face their more competent seniors Meliana Jauhari-Titon Gustaman [Djarum] in the quarterfinals. If they can get pass Agung-Emma [Mutiara] in the R. of 16. Alfiat-Luluk has an easier draw going into the semifinals.

Strangely, PB. Tangkas did not send any pair to compete in the adult XD... My bet is that either Enroe-Devi or Ade Lukas-Purwati will be the champion. 3rd and 4th choices are Fran-Rintan and Titon-Meliana... I can't see the Junior XDs like Alfiat-Luluk or Wifqi-Debby going all the way against those senior experienced players in the top half of the draw. The INA Jr. were lucky to have avoid the heavy hitters by the fate of the draw... :p

Does anybody else in B.C. care about INA's Under 19? Under 16? Under 14? :D If yes, please write what you know about them... :D

Here's what I know about WS
Adults
I feel a bit sad that the draw size for adults is for 32 players and they have TEN byes... So few active adult players. :(

Under 19
#1 seed Linda Weni [Ragunan] will be surrounded by an army of Djarum Taruna girls... Most notably Jenna Gozali [Djarum] who won the Under 19 last week at the West Java Circuit. Supposedly, Jenna was hand-picked by Fang Kaixiang himself. Jenna beat Linda Weni last week in Bandung. But both are candidates for representing INA in the up and coming Asian and World Junior.

But in addition to Jenna, there are 10 other girls from Djarum red & black army, which include Cisita Jansen [Djarum], last year's Smash [reality TV] winner. That show was sort of like American Idol but instead of singing, they played badminton... :D Cisita was not the best skilled player, but she's definitely the best looking. And being trained by Susy Susanti and Alan Budikusuma added to her charisma... :p In terms of better skill, then we have to watch for Tike, Alfa Vivianita, Delis, Ratih, and Variella. The 170cm Variella is a semifinalist in last year's Jakarta Open. In my observation, she is the hardest smasher of all female INA Junior. I still remember her jump-smashes; think of Yip Pui Yin...:p Very rare among WS players.

The draw size is for 64 players, with only one bye. Better participation size than the adults. Oh, and I think the 11-girl-strong Djarum army will not deplete much until the round of 16. I saw so many red & black Djarum shirts playing on almost all the courts in last year's Jakarta Open.

[U]Under 16
Girls from the two powerhouses, Ragunan and Jaya Raya, shall continue to dominate. [as usual] #1 seed Ayu Pratiwi [Ragunan], #2 seed Gebby Ristiani [Ragunan], and #3/4 seed Aulia Darajat [Ragunan] will probably continue their dominance. Seed #5/8 Rena Soewarno [Jaya Raya], Farah [Jaya Raya] and Shela Devi [Jaya Raya] maybe will pose some challenge to Verawaty's Ragunan horde. There are maybe about 10-15 Jaya Raya girls in this age category.

Oh, for those B.C. members that are unfamiliar with the INA club scene, Ragunan and Jaya raya presently concentrate mainly on developing women players. I believe they would rather put their resources in one category rather than try to dominate every category... due to limited money, naturally... :p [Heck, with a long history of producing Susy and Mia and Firda types, I would do the same thing if I were them]

No strikingly capable Tangkas and Djarum girls in the Under 16 horizon yet... Ganis [Djarum] is seeded #4, but she is so short [maybe 155cm]. No real future. Dea Riska [Djarum] on the other hand, is... maybe 180cm tall or something. But slow and clumsy. I only remember those 2 because of their notable body height.

The draw size is for 128 players. Almost no byes. Meaning: there are more girls playing Junior INA badminton these days...:)

Under 14
Agitania [Mutiara] is seeded 1st while Sella Devi [Jaya Raya] is seeded 2nd. The draw size is for 128 players. Pretty huge participants here too. :D Go INA badminton! We want our next Susi!

There's no doubt abt it. They are the best of the rest. Its a pity Heny Budiman has to quite Pelatnas early. She was doing well in her partnership with Greysia Polii back in the WJC Championships 2004 or 2005.

MS

Under 19
Top half
1. Yosis [Lippo]
5/8. Randy [Djarum]
3/4. Andre Martin Tene [Mutiara]
5/8 Robin Gonansa [Tangkas]

Bottom half
5/8. Aditya Arifin [Jaya Raya]
3/4. Senatria [SGS Elektrik]
5/8. Ade Riyadi [Djarum]
2. Nandang Arif [Tangkas]

This age category is not interesting for me... :p No player noteworthy enough... Just for Sandy's interest, since he mentioned about the Djarum Army, I see these names: Mohammad Ullinnuha, Randy [seeded 5/8], Tri Prasetyo, Bayu Sukma [seeded 9/16], Willy Mulyadi, Didit Juang, Avin, Ade Riyadi [seeded 5/8], Pandu Dewanoto.

I have heard of Ade winning the Sumatra Circuit, but maybe I was wrong. Gotta check the pbsi web for that... But none of these guys interest me so far, Sandy. The under-19 Djarum Girl-Army are definitely more fun to watch... :D Extra note, draw-size: 128 player.

Under 16
Top half
1. Evert Sukamta [Tangkas]
5/8. Tan Tony [Suryanaga]
3/4. Tunggul Mursito [Aufa]
5/8. Aditya [Mutiara]

Bottom half
5/8. Wisnu Yuli Prasetyo [Surya Baja]
3/4. Wisnu Broto [Suryanaga]
5/8. Sandy Rukiandy [Suryanaga]
2. Iman Hoerudin [Aufa]

There's a youngster named Riyanto [Djarum], seeded 9/16 in the bottom draw, set to meet Wisnu Broto [Suryanaga]. Riyanto is a tall boy [maybe 175cm], but maybe still only around 14. He has very well-defined strokes, but of course still lack match experience and power. He is not lightning fast on the court, but seldom look clumsy either. He is one player to watch. I am picturing him on the 2016 Olympic Games podium... :p

Sandy pays attention to Evert Sukamta [Tangkas]. If I am not mistaken, he is the top under-16 player in the country right now. Hmm... let's see in 9 years which youngster shall win a medal for Indonesia in the 2016 Olympic Games. Evert or Riyanto... ;)

The draw-size of this 'Remaja' (under-16) category is 256. Huge participation! There are 16 seeded players, but I just don't have enough time or interest in writing all their names. I don't know 95% of them... :p They need to be striking enough so that I can remember them. :p

Under 14
Top Draw
1. Gustav [Mutiara]
5/8. Tommy A. [Djarum]
3/4. Bastian Nugroho [Jaya Raya]
5/8. Fikri Ihsandi Hadmadi [Tangkas]

Bottom Draw
5/8. Hafiz Faisal [Jaya Raya]
3/4. Ari Januari [Tangkas]
5/8. Panji Akbar [Pelita]
2. Putra Eka [Jaya Raya]

Another massive participation with 200+ players competing. I only know Tommy [Djarum] because one of Djarum's coach told me that even although the 12 year old Tommy looks short now, Djarum have done forensic bone study on him [done by a Jakarta doctor] that predicts Tommy to grow to be 180-185cm tall [given proper nutrition and environment etc.]. Apparently, Djarum club do those height prediction tests for their prospective youngsters.

I am looking for one SGS Elektrik player from Bandung whose name I don't know, but I saw him competing in the under 12 National Championship last year. His footwork and natural strokes are just just fantastic! Footwork as light as Lee Chong Wei. Deceptive moves like Taufik. Well, after all, he probably is coached by "the master of deceptive shots" Iie Sumirat, Taufik's teacher...

The SGS Elektrik players that I found on the list are: Indo Limpele [hmm, related to Flandy Limpele?!? Possible! Because Flandy is also from SGS Elektrik] or Saefuloh or Haw Haw. My best guess is: Indo Limpele is the one I saw... A possible Taufik Hidayat?!?!? ;) Iie Sumirat had found a diamond before [Taufik], he might find one more diamond to polish! :)

And just for everyone's info: There is a Sinar Moria player called Yang Yang. :D I don't know anything about this boy, but he has a big burden attached to his name. Ha ha ha... :p "Yang-Yang" might meet #1 seed, Gustav, in the R. of 16...

Thank's for the info Krisna :)

I alse knew more GS U-19 rather than BS, I only knew Bandar or Nugroho who didn't play in this category. Usually Djarum come with some "new" name.

I didn't see last year U-16 winner, Engga Setiawan & Ana Rafika. Maybe they are play in U-19 this year.

So funny a lot of "famous" name in here. Beside "Yang Yang" I see "Ardy Wiranata" in Bandung circuit :D

So funny a lot of "famous" name in here. Beside "Yang Yang" I see "Ardy Wiranata" in Bandung circuit :D

Ha ha ha, Ardy Wiranata?!? :p

Oh, I heard about the Engga Setiawan incident... he was a top Under 16 last year... so, he was picked by PBSI to represent Indonesia in the Under 16 Asian Championship... Badminton Asia checked his age through some forensic method and... found that he was 17... :o :p

Engga later confirmed that yes he did blatantly cheat his age through producing a false birth certificate. Djarum was so embarrased by this incident and banned him... He is still in Kudus, I heard. But only acts as a formal sparring partner, cannot compete anymore as a Djarum player... probably ever... :p

Djarum coaches say that they really want to clamp down on these 'age-stealing' fraud. They know that by clamping down, Djarum will probably not perform well in the Under 16 and Under 14 because almost all of the players from most clubs cheat on their age... in order to gain a huge advantage [in the short term].

Djarum intend to dominate the Under 19 and Adult age category, so having no Under-16 and Under-14 champions are something that they are ready to face. Actually, they think it is good that the younger players face older players. More challenge... :D Better for their skill development...

Before long, Djarum also started to do forensic checks on their young talents. Anna Rovita [not "Ana Rafika" like what the www.pb-pbsi.net (http://www.pb-pbsi.net) wrote] suddenly came forward and admitted that she is actually 16, so she cannot compete in the under 16 category anymore. The funny thing is that she cannot prove that she is 16 because... the only birth certificate she has said that she is 15. Her parents just didn't register her birth until one year later but falsely claim that she was born that year, not already one year old.... That's INA, folks... :p Note: her forensic study later showed that she was indeed 16.

Djarum did not ban her because she came forward on her own initiative, but promptly upgraded her to only play in the Under-19 category. She is seeded 5/8 in that age category in Jakarta Open. She is a tough fighter, just a bit too short [maybe 162 cm or something]... :( Who knows... another Mia? :p

I see mostly Djarum Girl Single won today, just one tall girl lost in 3 sets. I guess she is Variella Aprilsasi, win easily in 1st set and far lead in middle 3rd sets but she make a lot of ue and give advantage to the oponent. Variella has big power and not slow mover, needed stronger mental. Not weird Pelatnas coach want her to pull her into Pelatnas. Good potential but the performance not yet, made her failed in Selection.
The opponent doesn't bad, Riza Nur Azizah is ex Djarum players. When Riza played for Djarum, she had higher ranking than Variella.

Evert Sukamta played smart today against Ratih player, Fabiano who played in high spirit.

The most entertaining in Nelvin (Djarum) vs Richi Imanuel, Richi has harder smash and good defence but Nelvin played in fast drive (LCW's style) and forced Richi to made some error. Richi has tried to catch on side by side but finally Nelvin won in 2 closed sets.

The toughest match is Tony Tan who won 22-20 after lead 19-16, catch to 19-20 in fnal sets, a lot of ue in critical moment.

I also see Riyanto, a tall boy, remind me BCL or hashim style. He win esily today.

Krisna
05-31-2007, 10:52 AM
Yes, I heard Variella lost today to Riza. I didn't see the match myself... I guess I won't be seeing her jumping-smashes this week...:p

Tommy, my favorite Under-14 is also in the Round of 32 tomorrow...

Evert Sukamta is a mini-Simon-Santoso... It doesn't look like he's going to be very tall... Riyanto has smooth strokes, eh? Tall, but plays like he is a bit lazy ya? :p His footwork is not very good [yet]...

Sandy, I hope the Under 16 finals will be Evert vs. Riyanto. Your pick versus my pick... ;) Evert is in the top half, Riyanto in the bottom half, so it is possible for them to meet in the final...

Budi Santoso was a former All England finalist when he was at Pelatnas and still a member of PB. Djarum. Now he have moved to be a coach in PB. Mutiara Bandung, but he is still quite active in the Nationa Circuit as a player.

He is quite good of course... :D Just a bit slower and lack stamina than when he was a top ten player of the world. Oh, actually, I think he was the last Indonesian MS finalist in the All England... 2002 or something. After Budi Santoso, no other Indonesian MS have made it to the finals of All England.

Players who have been dropped from Pelatnas should be allowed to compete in Indonesian domestic Circuits. Otherwise, we will close one more avenue for the poor badminton players from making money. That's just cruel! :(

And having them around in the domestic competition shall actually increase the level of competition here [rather than them moving abroad]. That's good for the youngsters so they are challenged to improve their skills.

Fran-Rintan [Djarum] def. Dani-Shendy [Djarum]
Ade-Purwati [Djarum] def Dede-Rio [Ratih]
Titon Gustaman-Meliana Jauhari [Djarum] def. Wifqi-Debby [Djarum]

Oh, I also know that Bellaetrix, Maria Febe, Maria Elfira, and Rosaria Pipin Pungkasari are in the quarterfinals after their wins this afternoon... Sylvinna Kurniawan didn't play because she still is not comfortable with the pain on her waist...I think Bella will probably go to the finals with little opposition except for Anastasya Emaya [Mutiara], while the 3 Djarum girls have to fight each other on the bottom half...

I'm not agree that Linda 2nd INA Junior, nothing special when watch her play today. Tend to play long rally and defencive just waiting the opponent made unforced error. She almost lost to Cisita Jansen if no bad call in 3rd set, and I'm sure Cisita will beat her if meet again. still a lot of players are better than her.
Another Ragunan's player in U-16, Ayu Pratiwi looked more dangerous although she lost to Umi (Djarum) in Jakarta Open today.

Oh, I agree that in terms of skill Linda Weni is not the second best INA Junior WS, but she is most likely the 2nd best ranked as of today... :p I think Tike [Djarum] and Jenna Gozali [Djarum] are better; even though Jenna lost to Alfa Vivianita [Djarum] today. Jenna defeated Linda Weni last week in the West Java circuit. Jenna then won the whole final by beating Alfa Vivianita last weekend. But today Alfa turned the table around... Good healthy competition between the Djarum army.

Djarum have 4 girls in the Under 19 quarterfinals.
Anna Rovita [Djarum] vs. Linda Weni [Ragunan]
Ratih [Djarum] vs. Putri [Tangkas]
Alfa Viviantia [Djarum vs. Rizky [Jaya Raya]
Tike [Djarum] vs. Hera [Mutiara]/Stevanie [Lippo]

Too bad Cisita lost. She's cute...

yeah, their parents should complain, it's inhumane for such young kids to be expected to compete at those sorts of hours.

what happened anyway, was there some sort of delay or just poor management/organisation? surely someone must have looked at the schedule and noticed that it was going to be very very late before all the matches finished?

Ahmad Rivai [Ratih] def. Andre Kurniawan Tedjono [Djarum] in rubber sets.
Ari Yuli Wahyu Hartanto [Djarum] def. Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka [Djarum] in rubber sets.
Note: My analysis is that Andre was exhausted after 4 long weeks of matches matches matches and yesterday's 2-2:30am game. Slept only a few hours, then play again at 1pm. But also some credit should go to Ahmad Rivai who played a good game. Ahmad Rivai is more well rested because his opponent in the quarterfinals walked out. He didn't have to play the 2am game Andre did. :p

Ahmad have defeated Nugroho Andi Saputro [Djarum] as well. Let's see if he can pull another victory over the last Djarum guy in his way: Wahyu... ;)

Semifinal results for Adult
Fran-Yoke [Djarum] def. Unang-Ali [Kutai Kartanegara, whose club initials are KKN, hahaha I am not making this up] :p ...in straight sets.
Ade Lukas-Hadi Saputra [Musica Champion Kudus, alias Djarum 2nd team] def. Wifqi-Alfiat [Djarum] in rubber sets, the last match of the today.

Note: Fran-Yoke were just toying with Unang-Ali. Very lopsided match. Today has to be an extremely tiring day for the 32-something-year-old Ade Lukas. Ade is not really an active player. An active coach at Djarum, yes. So his stamina is suspect... :p Today, between 3-7pm, he had to beat the 18-19 year old Dani-Komang [Djarum] in a llloooonngg MD rubber sets that ended with a 25-23 score. Then play XD with Purwati but lost to Fran-Rintan [Djarum]. Then play another marathon MD rubber sets defeating Djarum's [and INA's] top Junior, Wifqi-Alfiat.

This Djarum club has an interesting deliberate method of making their youngsters tough: they have to try and beat their own coaches or seniors [usually former Djarum players who have been a Pelatnas member, like Ade and Hadi] in a real tournament with real prize money at stake... ;)

So, we can see Antonius, who coaches Dani-Komang and Wifqi-Alfiat, give serious instructions on the youngsters on how to beat Ade-Hadi. The youngsters have progressed quite far by being able to stretch the more experienced Ade-Hadi to rubber sets. One year ago, they wouldn't dream of being able to compete this well... :p

As for Meliana-Titon, they had so much trouble finishing the points against the very resilient Yusuf-Lidya. Lidya was 150cm, Yusuf was 160cm or something. Mel was around 165cm, Titon maybe 180cm. I was just amazed how could the Liliputs stretch the Goliaths to rubber sets. Ha ha ha... :D

I just read the news from Indopos newspaper today.

Djarum domination was showed clearly in Jakarta Open 2007 results, 5 titles in Senior has been swept by them, no Jakarta club's player who play in final in this category. 2 big clubs from Jakarta, Jaya Raya & Tangkas "only" got title from U-14 to U-19.

The coach of Jaya Raya, Retno Kustijah said that they don't have enough player in this category because mostly of their player are stay in Pelatnas who didn't play in this tournament and the only hope on Bellaetrix in Single and Double. Bela wasn't in good form, just back from Thailand tour (I think Viet Nam tour, but other player in longer time, 4 tournament in 4 weeks). BTW she still happy with 2 GS tittle in U-16 & U-19.

Justian Suhandinata of Tangkas criticize that Djarum's domination isn't good for National badminton development. Player's recruitment from small club will made badminton monopoli. He said that Djarum isn't wrong, with good funding they can recruit new players from every where and a lot of new players interested to change of sent to international tournament.
He hopes PBSI made new rule about player transfer, if not the small clubs won't have change to challenge them (Djarum) in next tournament.

Come on man, it's time to change badminton to be professional sport. Tangkas usually can get big company as club sponsor like Bimantara, Bogasari and they also hired player from small club like Simon Santoso (Sinar Mutiara). It was normal for player who moved to better place to up-grade their badminton skill.
Djarum acomodate some player to play in international tournament is very good, so the player won't depend their career only from PBSI and PBSI can take 10-15 players only.
BWF should be started to acomodate badminton player not only as Association player but also as Professional player who play individually or under the club.

Sounds like most people's criticism towards Chinese badminton domination in the world... :D ...on a smaller scale, of course.

Oh, should we also start complaining about Tangkas' domination in the number of coaching staff Tangkas have in Pelatnas?!? :p Hendrawan, Marleve, Richard Mainaky, Thomas, Lius?

New rule about player transfer for the small club's protection?!? So, Indonesia's vision should be that the small clubs are glorious? I thought the glory of Indonesian badminton and the benefit of the players should come first?!?

Throughout the planet, the best players benefit from strong organizations. Kobe Bryant benefits from the Lakers, Zidane from Real Madrid, etc. Kobe and Zidane may choose to play for small clubs if they wish. Nobody is stopping them if they choose that after college or something...

Same thing with Indonesian badminton players, if they still want to play for small clubs, so be it... But if the small clubs can offer them limited benefits, it only makes sense that the very talented players move on to greener pasteurs...

With extra benefits of being in a strong organization, the talented youths have a better shot at becoming world contenders. INA-badminton needs that, right? :)

It should be chance, I wrote change twice :o

Oh, should we also start complaining about Tangkas' domination in the number of coaching staff Tangkas have in Pelatnas?!? :p Hendrawan, Marleve, Richard Mainaky, Thomas, Lius?

I fully agree of it
PBSI Official in this periode only knew badminton because of ex top player without considered how much thec experience as coach.

I understand if Pelatnas coach are Kurnia Hu, Hendry Saputra or Kho Mei Hwa from Tangkas not Hendrawan or Joko Suprianto and recently they pulled in Marleve as Pelatnas coach ??? Give the time for new coach to train in their club before hired them.

Verawaty did well as coach in Ragunan after some people doubt her as Pelatnas coach too.

Vera must be doing pretty good in training all those Ragunan girl-army... :D

Kho Mei Hwa?!? The one in Malaysia [or is it Singapore] is from Tangkas? I thought she was from Djarum... Maybe I'm mistaken... It was a long time ago. She was a player between Ivana Lie's era and Susi Susanti's era...

Joko Suprianto is most probably not a very good coach... I personally think he is not sharp, unlike Kurnia Hu and Hendry Saputra. Even Sony thinks Joko was actually pulling him down. When Joko resigned from Pelatnas, Sony painted his hair blond and said: now I am relieved from Joko's regime... :p

Kho Mei Hwa played for Djarum when junior then moved to Tangkas. Jaya Raya's coach, Lanny Tedjo too.
The ideal National's coach for single (so far no much problems in double) should be ex player who trained for long time by Liang Chu Sia or Tang Xien Hou and they has enough experience as coach. A lot of them coach in some clubs or some place, like Ellen Angelina, Lidya Jaelawijaya, Fung Permadi, etc. They can implement their knowledge from these experience coach.

I remembered reading abt this :D

Hendrawan should be a better coach. Sony's performance is actually quite consistent this year: reaching QF in 4 out of 6 SS events. He needs to be more consistent and should try to reach top 8 by end of the year.

yes, if compared to Joko
maybe Hendrawan better as MS coach rather than WS, but still not enough as National coach.

I say Sony's performance this year because of Sony's potential. Remember that ex top-4 JWBC Beijing 2000 are top ranking. Winner : BCL, 2nd : SDK, SF : LD & LCW. Sony is youngest among of them. If Sony got right coach earlier, he should be much better than current stage. That is PBSI, no money to hired good coach.

I agree. Perhaps he got early success too easily, with a bronze medal at the Athens Olympics 3 years ago? And that was he was still 20?
