I think i saw that too in the Star. I admire Joo Ven's courage to aim to be in BJSS. For someone so young, to plan long term like that!! I salute u....

But is BJSS the best place if one aspires to be in the national team? Or is the state trng centre like SBA, better? Few years ago, there was this player, Azryn Ayob - Zuilfadli's doubles partner. He is now in BJSS while Zulfadli is still in SBA.

Any comment anyone?

haha.. of coz bjss will be the best.. bjss guys train everyday with better coaches n facilities.. guys from SBA or other badminton associations may not have the chance to train for so many days compare to bjss.. n they need to pay training fees for the association they involved.. bjss will have chances to participate in overseas tournament while chances for state association will be very limited.. the further they can go r smth like local circuit or local open tournaments.. but the only thing is Bjss guys may not have balanced or enouf time for them to take care of their school or homework.. but our juniors like stephanie n other volleyball players passed their SPM with flying colours [ i read it from DEWAN SISWA few yrs ago..] keke.. oh ya.. 1 thing i gonna ask.. Bandar penawar Sports School do not offer badminton training..?

Well, I suppose in BJSS it's nearly the same coaching everyday... could be boring, no? I mean, state players are free to choose their coaches, where they want to train, to have none to 10 coaches for all they want... if BJSS not much choice(if any?).

And of course still free to go out with friends, family, and can study better... my mum's friend had a daughter in BJSS for gymnastics. Then PMR results comes out the girl failed nearly all the subjects. Reason? The teachers are constantly not around(they are teachers and managers of teams at the same time). The mum immediately took her daughter out of BJSS and placed her in a 'normal' school. The girl ended up with straight A1s for SPM. Amazing, no? But no, the girl's gymnastics did not end there... although she was out of BJSS she still trained with them. The best of both worlds I suppose...

Btw, out of curiosity.. what are all the juniors' level of play here?

For me, I'm a school player, can beat some district players or at least give most of them a tough fight.. but don't talk about state players lah. Haha. Trained competitively for about a year but when I reached form 4 I had to stop... training on court 3 days a week and doing my own physical exercise another 2-3 days was too much.. had to stop to concentrate on exams already.

Level has dropped to.. just bad lah since I stopped training so often, now only play/train 2 hours a week to 'lepas stres'.

Lol, SPM too? Hahaha... homework is one thing.. Usually I end up with 2 choices, finish homework then sleep, or don't finish, study(more important to me) then sleep. But usually I end up finishing homework..

Actually I can concentrate on both.. no problem.. but in form 4 I wanted to be more active in koko activities.. Even without badminton now my schedule involves a lot of koko.. need the certs.. badminton certs alone not enough.. and what was frustrating about badminton was.. yes, you win gold medals.. but rarely no cert to prove it. So if I want any scholarship interview I'd have to drag all my medals and trophies along? I'm talking about the not-so-bigshot tournaments of course.. I know some of the 'higher class' tournaments usually give certs.

So instead of training I joined 1 uniform society, 3 clubs and am active in my sports house. Lol. Okay, so maybe the 3 clubs is going overboard... but I was interested in them all.. :p

Hahaha I don't like to study too but I force myself to study.. got brain never use a bit wasted ler. :p Hoping for a scholarship, don't want my parents spending money on my education when I can get it free.. :D

I know KL Open they gave certs lah.. I didn't join(too many reasons to give) but my friend won.. and I saw her cert.. looked quite professional.

Yeah lor they should give.. when my partner and I won the title in a mix doubles tournament we didn't get a cert.. the badminton bag, racquet, hamper etc etc maybe worth a lot lah.. but honestly I'd exchange all, even the gold medal for a single cheap printed paper/certificate as proof. Even worse, I wanted it to be included in my koko marks for my sport, but my teacher wanted proof! Wah I tell you.. geram lah.. show medal also no name.. It was the only tournament that I decided to ask my teacher for marks.. cause represented district in that tournament.. other tournaments I just played under my school's name/training academy's name. But at the end of the day.. NO CERT.

At least in school I get so many certificates, from school level to national level(quizzes/essay competitions/choral speaking etc).. seems so much easier to get.. lose also get cert.. badminton champ also no cert..

So in school don't like also take part lah.. I'm running 4 events(4X400m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m) for my house.. may not get a cert, but my teacher will include in koko.. seems so much more worth it to do something I dislike(hate running, so boring.. but no choice lah I want some koko) compared to badminton(something I really love).

Conclusion: Juggling studies and badminton is no problem.. but in studies if you want to win a scholarship have to drop badminton(unless they start giving certs out), if you want to excel in badminton.. well.. I suppose you're following your heart's passion. :)

Hahahaha... nope, all the tournaments I joined nothing to do with my school one... my school's koko teacher is super protective of his athletes, he doesn't allow his runners to do any other sports.. including badminton.. anyway that's an altogether different story.

Haha.. maybe only circuit they send lah.. the tournaments I used to join everything handled by my coach. And I rarely ever took part in tournaments that forced me to skip school(apart from the once a year MSSD lah, no choice that one). Parents always say.. studies first... always use my cousin as an example.. she was a state player, even represented Malaysia a few times when in her teens(not our generation... about 10 years ago generation) and in the end.. she quit to concentrate on studies.

Hahaha.. the worst is when you get a really good opponent and you slog it out on court with them.. then you see the next court both also got good fight-trying to serve and trying hit the shuttle past the net. *Why can't I get that opponent in the early rounds??*:p

yaya.. interclass..interhouse.. all very easy 1.. some of them cant even serves well..

Haha.. in my school interhouse badminton competition is like gambling.. cause very few school players, and we are all spread out in different houses.. so have to try and guess who will be playing the events to ensure that a weaker school player will not meet a stronger school player and 'waste' a good player(school player usually thrash none school player one). After the captains fill up the team line-up for the day all super protective of the lists. :D

hahaa.. good idea.. in my sch.. school players are seperated out.. n each have to partner 1 non-sch player to play in the double event.. lolz..

Maybe your school has a closed badminton tournament within.. for us it's inter house, like sports day, only this is not track & field events. So naturally some houses have more school players than others.

But yes, we usually do not put 2 school players together.. it's a total waste, if we separate them usually we have more chance of winning.. no fight mah if 2 school players partner each other.. if the other team guess our strategy somemore even worse, then they put super weak players and sacrifice that one event for the sake of others..

But it's quite fun lah to strategise like that.. gives the captains a feel of how coaches/captains feel & strategise in team events like Sudirman Cup, Thomas Cup, Uber Cup etc. :p

Zhi Wei.. just be on the look out for any tournaments lor..

Why not we post up in this forum of any tournaments we hear of? Share share..;)

No I'm not.. :( I've got a national level quiz that day.. would give it a miss if not for the fact that it's worth A LOT of koko points(not to mention a beautiful cert hehe) and I can't let my partner(in the quiz) down. Hmm.. if you ask me, you should really play your heart out in your lower secondary school years. In PMR, no one looks at your results when you enter college/apply scholarships/work. Just get a few A's, and you can choose any stream you want.

But SPM.. form 4 ain't no honeymoon year. Seriously. This is when you concentrate on both co curricular activities and studies. Why? Form 4 gives you a really important foundation in studies. Co curricular take part in at least 1 club besides badminton. Form 4s are given priorities for the higher posts in all clubs, unless you have form 6 in your school.. that only affects your chances a very slight bit anyhow.

Then again, that's just my opinion. =) I've been brought up such that studies #1, badminton #2.

Hmm.. very very honestly, too much pressure/emphasis on winning takes the pure fun out of the game. Last time when my coach just kept pushing and pushing and pushing... after a while.. I felt kinda, you know, "hey, where's the fun?" feeling.

We trained on court 2 hours, and after that we had a 1 hour physical to look forward to. Of course, I improved drastically in a few months, from practically a beginner to one who can beat some district players(but not joined MSSS before, often crash out too early to state players) player.

Zhi Wei, you know my level now, well it was much much higher before when I was training competitively(hahaha yeah I play like don't care don't care now =P). If you get opportunity someday ask for my book, where I recorded all my exercises and number of repetitions every training session.

Oh, I'll admit tournaments are super fun. Especially when you have a whole team to cheer you on, to encourage you from the sidelines, to hug you after a fantastic win, to comfort you after a loss...

But the pressure.. and sometimes too tough training..

:p Oki oki, I'll admit that I'm quite lazy. Haha! If no one pushes me I just slack more and more. Maybe thats why my coach pushed me so hard. Lol. I was supposed to do my own jogging and other training by myself... but.. :p Of course, he never knew that I didn't do the extra physical exercises on non-training days because somehow my stamina was still one of the best in training(must have been all catching games when I was much younger). I used to do the minimum unless my coach pushed me. I was sometimes scolded for fooling around during games during training(you know, lousy chicken strokes just to laugh about, but foolish ones to use in tournaments).

Not to mention the dirty playing by some players/coaches/organisers. In tournaments.. the politics.. kiasu parents who want their 7 year olds to win the U10 category will practically kill to get their precious babes to win.

So... after my long speech(vented after studying too hard), do think hard about really wanting to have a badminton career...

Then again, probably those of you who aspire to be national players are not as lazy as I am. :p

My coach had an easier time with me as compared to my piano teacher though.. but that's a different story. hehehe.

Enough crapping for now, all the best to all future national players! Do Malaysia proud! :D

Haha !!!
Thanks for ur lecturing Joanne !!! I understand what ur trying to tell me here !!! All ur hard effort made u a better player...just like me too...from dun even know how to hit until today...after going thru pushes by coaches and many other challenges that i faced when i was a "noob" !!

Somehow, i want to increase my game to another level !! Having the level now is just like so so lousy to me, in school many say im good, but actually the fact i was trying to tell them that i'm not good...im just an ordinary player everybody can beat...

Here's an incident that happened this year, at the beginning of the year, the qualifying of MSSD to see who can get into MSSD !!! There's this guy who used to beat me in form 2, but he was not chosen...instead i was chosen to play doubles(cuz i lost in my singles qualifying)....this guy here(not to mention his name) msg me and said," why u can qualify and not me?" i told him back that i trained hard to get qualified, is that something wrong???

Until after MSSD, the day has come, he came to school and play during club meetings !!! He then ask for a challenge !!! I played with him 21 points match of 3 and i won straight sets....and that day only he knew the reason why he was not chosen...

well...eventhough im good in sch, im trying to achieve to another higher level, at least better than SOo Teck Siang !!!

Another incident where i joined this yuk chai open !!! My partner and i lost to a pair of state players !!! After the match, the opponent's manager came over and told me that my partner and i didnt think in the match, just go for the birdie thats all...and from that day i realised that it was true !!! In my school, all the players that play with us seldom us brains!!! Most of them only have power thats all, or maybe some lucky shots....so i compared this 2 situation and i learned something...

I hope my experiences here can help u all...(now u know my game)...i hope everybody can give different opinions to help me !! TQ:)

The 2nd reason was pure childishness and does not reflect any maturity in the player. Unless of course that was said in jest.

There are so many excuses that I have heard in my lifetime... especially from GUYS. Think guys' ego can't take losing to a girl. Hahaha. No offence to guys here though, think most of you show sportsmanship. :D

Gotta study for trial now though, will think over it and list it down later.

Yep... i totally agree. The most common excuse i ve heard is injury. Totally not the right time to mention it as a 'reason" right after a loss to an opponent.... so unsporting....

How about these:-

5) I wish I hv your speed (as fast as u) in the court....
6) Refused to shake hands after losing / throw the racket in tantrum

ZhiWeiZ
09-10-2007, 03:58 AM
But sometimes u know the excuses could be real like muscle injuries, who knows if he really got it in the middle of the game and he keep holding it back and continue the match...well just admit that losing isnt anything much, but learn from ur lost.....
sometimes i will admire or the urge for tat kind of speed, i dunno why but somehow i was pursuing for speed all the while !!!
WHy??

I know what you mean about the injury part, but when you use it as an explanation for your loss, isn't that a rather poor show of sportsmanship? I mean, it's exactly like telling your opponent, "Hey, I can beat you any day anytime, except that I'm injured today," in an indirect manner of course. If you're gonna use your injury as an excuse, just don't play at all, why injure yourself further?

My exam ends 3rd December(Bible Knowledge).. so Zhi Wei, you'll have to wait 2 more days before I can join you in Megah. Although I will probably be playing that weekend already.. seeing so many other friends 'merdeka' by then. Hehehe.

Well, I'm not really that sad. Been waiting to sit for SPM for years now.. for me it's a turning point of my life.. you know, once I'm done with it, I have the freedom to decide what to do with my life, no longer stuck in that exam exam exam life. Unless of course I enter form 6.. but even that will be different. :)

But hey, Dec. 3 will come soon enough, if time really flies, and I'll be freeeeeeee for a few months. :p Unless I choose to enter form 6, I'll probably have a lot more time for badminton. Even form 6 won't be as stressful.. compared to taking 12 subjects in SPM anyway.

First plan after SPM: BADMINTON. 1/2 times a week is barely working out my excess energy. :rolleyes:ME!!!!!!!! tough life arhz.. less than a month... sigh sigh sigh.. but after spm.. muahaha.. 1st plan.. HOLIDAY!!!!!!!!!! go trips with frens.. den.. back to court for training.. muahaha.. hope that Super Series Final will be in Malaysia.. but its impossible lahz.. WC is already in MAS.. sigh.. hancur mimpi aku..

Then again lets not argue over such an illogical topic. Hehehe.

Well Samuel, I've heard "estate" being used by people in several ways:-

- to tell off any state players who think too highly of themselves (you know... the "high and mighty" attitude:rolleyes:

- also the humble type of state player who would humbly say he is just good enough to represent a rubber estate rather than a state (like Selangor) in competitions..:)

U-15 gal.. state player i think

U-15 very very vague lah...

Perhaps the better way to word that question would be, "How many years younger was your youngest opponent that you lost to?" In tournament and not during tournament.. Usually we lose to much younger than us in social games lah, cause tournaments we have age categories.

Lets see.. in tournament.. er... 13 years old when I was 14(U-15 category)? Well partly because 14 was the year I started and ended playing competitive badminton. Lol.

But in social games.. hahaha... used to lose to this 11 year old boy all the time during training when I was 14.. he's now in BJSS so I don't feel so bad. :p Last year I think, at age 15 I lost to a boy who couldn't have been more than 12 years old...

I have yet to meet any of those 7/8 year old kids who are super pro that people sometimes talk about though... otherwise you'll be hearing about this 16 year old losing to a 7 year old.. :o

Thanks Blessing for info....

BTW, did any BJSS players lose to state players in local circuit before?

my coach's assistant,Goh Soon Huat from melaka(i think his the No.1 under18 player in melaka) beat world junior bound shuttler teo kok siang in straight sets. but lostr in semis.

he then partnered Goh Khang Zhuang and beat i think kuan kam chung and his partner to enter the state finals.

I was thinking of something...can we shorten the days???
Then maybe we dun have to suffer that long and also...the results will not matter for the future, so we can take with no worries !!!
Good idea isnt it?:D

Hahaha.. maybe because you see me play badminton so much.. :p

But studies still more important lah.. if I don't get the scholarship I want(I'm only aiming for a specific one) then it'll be form 6... So of course SPM decides it lor.. ;)

Right.. I can feel your 'sympathy'... wah... 26th Nov.. really not fair! They should put Science students to end last day!

So you'll be on the court 1 week before me.. hmmph.

But I'm still training in between. :p
