Well, wasn't the first day full of excitement, wrapping up with England's upset over Malaysia. There were a few surprise individual results such as HK's MD and WD wins over DEN and KOR's XD shocker over INA. Hang on tight for another day of rollercoaster action.

Div 3 - Group A France over U.S.A 3-2
Div 3 - Group A Canada over Ukraine 3-2
Div 3 - Group B India over New Zealand 4-1
Div 3 - Group B Scotland over Finland 4-1

Div 1 - Group B Indonesia over Denmark 3-2
Div 1 - Group B Korea over Hong Kong 4-1
Div 1 - Group A China over England 5-0

For MD, China will pair Guo/Xie to rest Fu/Cai. England's Tony (Clark) & (Robert) Blair could win this one.

INA vs DEN is could go 3-2 either way.
THA vs MAS should go to MAS 3-2, i think Ponsana can nick 1 more for MAS.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka can hopefully prevail against Ireland.

BTW, I noticed in Starhub Supersport description, they are no longer considering MAS as a contenter

Quoted below,

"A prestigious team championship second only to the Thomas & Uber Cup, teams such as China, Indonesia, Denmark and Korea vie for the Sudirman Cup."

will anyone be able to enlighten me on what it means to malaysia considering the team set against England has now been lost ? If we beat Thailand and lose to China, still possibility of getting the semi final berth ?

well , I think MAS will beat THA today .
KKK/TBH and WMC can easily win over their opponents.
And then LEE CW or CHIN/WONG can add a point , so it's 4-1 or 3-2 .

I think you got to really watch how England, whom many thought will lose to MAS, performs for the rest of the ties. Now Rexy is in trouble for not being able to inspire the young MD to overcome the English veterans and for fielding an inexperienced XD pair.

ENG doubles won probably due to the surprise element in their play brought on by new coach TKH. TKH's charges have often given Rexy's problem. Used to be KOR defeating MAS when TKH was coach for KOR. So now would be wise for all not to underestimate ENG doubles. Ian Wright was quick to acknowledge TKH's superfast effect on the team ....after just one month?wow,TKH's gotta be terrific coach! Hope he goes round the world ,spreading his magic and lifting the doubles standard.
Sorry MAS, remember always never to underestimate your opponents.
Delighted for ENG.Congrats! Keep working hard.

I asked the same question in the Day 1 thread. This is the response I got:
- if MAS, ENG and THA are tied with 1 win and 2 losses each, it goes down to the number of matches won
- if they are still tied (e.g. W5, L10), it goes to the number of games and points won

Accurate?

Looking at the results, MD & WD are very close encounters. KKK/TBH should have won it. But TKH is definitely one of the factors why ENG won all the doubles.

Anyway, MAS can still make to SF if MAS beats THA and THA beats ENG. MAS really have to PLAY and PRAY hard.

I like Boonsak but I doubt he can beat LCW in his IO07 form. LCW's a much stronger version of Boonsak plus his No. 1 speed. We 'll see.
As for StarhubCV,it's a cheapskate company. They cut down on badminton telecast even though they know badminton is the most popular sport in Spore(after soccer) because they couldn't afford to pay for the Superseries. So they bought cheap sports packages (of mostly golf rubbish, just about every golf tourney of even the poorest quality! Golf fans must be rubbish dumps!) to fill up the airtime on Supersports which is meant to cater for just Singapore. StarhubCV believes its subscribers can be fooled into going for quantity rather than quality. That's why they always boast of so many hours of airtime on Supersports rather than whether the content mix reflects the actual needs of its subscribers.(Whereas Astro is high class and smart; it can sense the badminton following and knows its subscriber base will eventually grow substantially from there.)
So do you think such a company knows what it puts out?

I'm really happy for TKH for gaining the confidence of the English team in such a short while. Now Malaysia cannot discount TKH's abilities, who must be trying hard to prove a point that he is no inferior to Rexy.

But one must acknowledge that England's MD veterans have already proven themselves in the past and are playing better than ever. With so much experience playing together, it should not surprise that they can beat MAS's young but higher ranked pair.

To many, Malaysia's young and inexperienced XD pair will surely be no match to the experienced and much higher ranked English pair of Robertson and Emms.

Ok then WCH will beat Boonsak.Boonsak's coach unlikely to be familiar with WCH's play so the pre-match strategy may not be firmed up clearly.Besides it's WCH's first match so stamina's not a problem. Oldies like him have the advantage of experience;stamina usually fail only about the 5th consecutive match and only against a tough opponent. And WCH is a No.1 fighter. BCF$100 anyone?

Yes, seems like that's the only way to get into the SF for Malaysia but don't bet on it as Thailand is ready for Malaysia by resting Boonsak on day 1 against China. Malaysia for sure will lose 1 point on Mixed Double and do have advantage on MD(even though KKK/TBH lost in day 1) and the rest is close to 50-50 ... Somehow playing in team is a different story to playing individually. Even in Davis Cup Tennis, lesser team members can step up to win. Such is the case with the English MD over KKK-TBH yesterday. Playing for country can sometimes bring out the best of a person(s).

Having said that, then it should be possible for the Malaysian XD to step up and surprise.:D

Division 1B (01.30pm local time --- 07.30pm Jakarta time)
-INA vs DEN -- 3-2 or 2-3, hard pressures absolutely for INA squad after XD made blunder yesterday. I'm afraid that INA will back home earlier, hope today isn't a bad day for Tim Merah Putih. Tight matches between them spread in XD-MS and MD. WS will probably taken by DEN meanwhile WD is INA own.

-KOR vs HKG -- 3-2, KOR will lose 2 points from single sectors, MS and WS

Division 1A (06.30pm --- 12.30am)
-CHN vs ENG -- 5-0 or 4-1, CHN will continue their winning campaign. Nathan/Gail has best chance to steal one set. Another scenario : ENG will book 1 point from MD if Guo/Xie replace Cai/Fu for tonight's line up

-MAS vs THA -- 3-2, on paper MAS will book 3 points from WS/MD/WD. Thailand's aces Boonsak and Sudket/Saralee didn't perform yesterday, certainly THA will play them tonight. THA possible will take this MS and surely for XD. Similar with INA condition, MAS has heavy burden now to face 2nd day match so mental strength hold leading role here.

All Mas supporters must have read from the newspapers that this team event is NOT a main goal for Mas team. They sent 10 players only. They will let WCH and XD pairs to gain more individual points. They just want to retain in Group A and they just want to receive respect from other stronger teams.... so what can we say? Maybe they are right as there is only one champion in team event.
Further, TKH is NOT that good, otherwise the Korea team will NOT let him go.....and English MD pair is GOOD because they were under Rexy's charge previously.

To Kwun,
Against ENG, the best bet for THA would be the MS event as Boonsak Ponsana is far stronger than Andrew Smith or anyone from England. Mixed wouldn't be their best bet since Robertson/Emms are equally as good, even edging the Thai pairs in many previous encounters.

CLELY,
Although Ng Wei is pretty consistent, but I think he lacks the extra spark that makes him a winner when facing opponents from a strong badminton nation such as Korea. If Korea fills in PSH or SSM, he is unlikely to win the point for HKG.

But then again, many of these players are playing their best to for their respective country so expect surprises in the upcoming matches.

I think you got to really watch how England, whom many thought will lose to MAS, performs for the rest of the ties. Now Rexy is in trouble for not being able to inspire the young MD to overcome the English veterans and for fielding an inexperienced XD pair.

IMHO KKK/TBH lost not because of pressure.......Rexy or KKK/TBH has to come up with a new strategy of play now, since their killer shots are all known by the opponents.......

It is much like what had happened to LCW for the past 9 or 10 months, after being thoroughly analysed by the enemies..........one's skills have to evolved to stay on top. The game strategy they use which entitled them AG, MO, AE n SO is just not good enough anymore at this moment to win like they used to.

Agreed. that's why Astro big big boss is so rich......hehehe.......:D:D:D:D

I hope not because it is unlikely that WCH could win!
Every point and win count very importantly for Malaysia from now onwards!

I think MAS team just wana go back early, 1st mistake was to bring just 10 players to participate.

Now after losing, WCH will be playing against Thai which is MAS only half-hope [providing Thai will win against ENG which is quite unlikely] of getting to the semi.....

or are they trying to get some free time to do shopping there.......

or they have confidence of beating CHI then........:crying::crying::crying::crying: It is just so "GREAT" of being a MAS supporter. Smart move BAM........:mad::mad:

Thank you my friend from the most beautiful country in the world!

I don't think I've lost my grip on the words yet, but I have observed that many of us in this forum have a tendency to use words quite "loosely", often using the wrong tense for verbs and sometimes mixing them with nouns.

Malaysia team really have to fired up in today matches against Thai.If they win this, they still have a very slim chance to enter the semis. As for KKK/TBH,we all predict they will win for sure but things usually come out differently.Well, maybe we are under estimate as Clark/Robert are the runners up of the world champion last year and now Tan Kim Har is the England coach.Maybe they will beat Cai/Fu today also although the chance is really slim.Well, now Mas must forget yesterday lose and fight hard.I am happy enough if Mas team can retain in group A next year. All the best.

XD - INA Over DEN - Provided INA Flandy/Vita Marissa plays
MS - DEN Over INA - Peter overcome TH in recent SO, remember!
WS - DEN Over INA - Tine R is simply better!
MD - INA Over DEN - Markis/Hendra better to any of DEN pairs!
WS - DEN Or INA - Polii/Lita is not as good as Polii/Vita???? INA in danger if they play Polii/Lita instead of Polii/Vita.......what do U think?

I guess Maria got a lot of points in early match because of Tine didn't know Maria's style. She found the solving in the end of 1st set. Maria need the stronger finishing touch as usual.

I think she will only be playing in the delegation match, hoping to keep HK in Div.1 for another 2 years.

as predicted, Tine too strong for all INA WS.
I guess Maria got a lot of points in early match because of Tine didn't know Maria's style. She find the solving in the end of 1st set.

Compare with Firda's performance who lost to Lee Yun Hwa yesterday, Maria still better (against to comment of Hendrawan and PBSI officials)

But Firdasari played a game of her life yesterday, only to lose at crucial stages and in rubber games. She did play well if you compared her standard to many others. I personally think you guys and those officials are too harsh on her.

Yeah, i supposed MAS should have... and that's devastating, right? I was sitting here watching livescore till nearly 5am, rooting for them, and too bad, those supposed to win, didn't. You know who i am refering to. But honestly, CEH/WPT did well, they lost narrowly, that's tough luck in tight 3 games. They had 3 match points but cannot convert, so sad :(
I just hope that they will take the rest of the remaining matches seriously instead of wanting to earn ranking points, I read that over and over again in the newspapers, and I think that's really nonsense.

Yes I know, but if you play 0-5 against CHN then it could be a problem if:

ENG df. MAS, MAS df. THA, THA def. ENG

The the other 3 teams all have one victory and two losses...

Then a 0-5 against CHN could be the reason to be 3rd instead of 2nd in you group...
